I have just started developing iOS apps with xCode 6.3. I only have 1 physical device with me, an iPhone 4 (no S). In order to work with Push notifications I need to register at least one device for development but xCode sees my iPhone4 as ineligible device (it runs IOS 7.1.2). I tried adjusting the building target to 7.1, restarting the device and the mac, but nothing has worked.
is there any way I can register the iPhone4 as development device without buying a new iOS device?
That was actually very stupid. I had tried this solution but I didn't clean and rebuild the project. After a clean, rebuild and restart (!!!) I can now run the apps on a Physical iPhone4
Try to download Xcode 5.1.1 from
https://developer.apple.com/downloads/
It's based on iOS 7.1 SDK. It should work with your iPhone4.
your device not detected Xcode 6.0 because hardware requrement not match. you must check it iPhones 4s or above. Also Xcode 6 not detect our iPhone.
there is no problem with your device.you can test with this device.follow these steps i hope u will get your problem solved.
1.remove device from xcode from window>device.
now link iphone and press trust from iphone when it asks to trust.
3.Keep your target sdk version 7.0 or 7.1.
now run your project.

Recently I upgraded my Xcode to 8.1 (8B63) and migrated the 7.3.4 project successfully. Tested on simulators and was able to build on iPad Retina (iPad 4) simulator with deployment target 8.4. But when I connected my device (iPad 4), I got the following error:
Could not locate device support files.
This iPad (4th generation Model A1458) is running iOS 10.2.1 (14D27), which may not be supported by this version of XCode.
I am not able to understand why - as the project can work on iPad 4 simulator, but not able to connect to the device. Can you please help me in this?
Thanks
You need to update Xcode again. I have this same problem sometimes when I update my iDevice right when Apple pushes an update to iOS. The problem is that your device's iOS is too current, and your Xcode actually doesn't recognize it (it's outdated - the latest is 8.2.1 I believe).
If you're an Apple Developer with a current account, you can actually see the latest version of Xcode (and beta versions) here: https://developer.apple.com/download/more/?q=xcode Also you can bypass the annoying time-outs and bugs you sometimes will experience downloading Xcode through the AppStore
I think Xcode 8.2.1 should help, if not - try Xcode 8.3 Beta (if it's available)
I've just updated my iPhone to iOS 7.1.2, and I can no longer run my apps through xcode 5.1.1. And I can't install apps with this iOS version too.
To solve this issue do the following:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
It will prompt you to allow the computer to access the device.
If you accept, the device should be properly recognized by Xcode too and selectable to run your app.
Still no clue why this happened in first place, after updating to iOS 7.1.2.
I am starting iOS development. I have created an application and I am using Xcode 5.0.2, and I'm running the iOS Simulator for an iPhone 5. I want to test my application in the Simulator for an iPhone 4.
Is any tool like Genymotion Emulator (for Android) to run test my application on iPhone 4?
You can choose the version of simulator from Xcode itself. Pls check the image for better understanding
I don't think it's possible in XCode, but if you have a developer account, you can achieve this by using real device.
Change the deployment target in project properties (general tab):
Though with my Xcode 5.1.1, I can only reach the 6.0 as the lowest version.
I have iOS 7.0.3 device. I plug in to my computer and Xcode does not recognise my device. But i plug in iOS 6.0.1 device to computer and i can run on device.
How can i test iOS 7.0.3 device ?
Connect the 7.0.3 device, open organizer in xcode (shift+cmd+1), go to tha devices tab and click "use for development" to make the device a development device.
I think Xcode has a bugs. My device is using iOS 7.0.3, it works fine. Can you reset the Xcode, quite simulator and build it again ? If No, please res install your Xcode.
I recently got a new dev machine and downloaded the latest xcode 4.5. It came with IOS 6 only so I went and got sdk 5.0 and 5.1 from older xcodes.
The device im testing on in running ios 5.1 and I'd like to keep it that way for the moment.
In my project settings I have base sdk set to ios 5.1.
The trouble is that when I try to debug on my ios 5.1 device xcode complains that I need to connect an iOS device with a recent enough version of iOS to run my application.
How can I solve this problem?
You can surely run your app on a iOS 5.1 device when using Xcode 4.5 - I am doing that at the very present moment.
Have you checked in Xcode organizer if your device is configured for development? Go to the Organizer (one of the top-left icons), select your device from the lefthand list and click on "use for development" (if available).
Hope this helps.
I have xCode 4.5 like you and I have an iPod Touch 3G 5.1.1 which works perfectly with iOS 6 SDK.
The SDK Number doesn't tell you that it only works for that firmware.
In your Project settings under targets you can define the sdk, not the sdk you build with(this is 6.0) but youcan tell what the minOS is
Try restarting with your 5.1 device plugged in.
My iPod 5.1.1 is provisioned and has been used for development. If I choose the scheme "iOS Device" Xcode 4.5.2 refuses to run, telling me "Xcode cannot run using selected device". However it does work when I set the scheme to "robert's iPod" (or whatever). This choice doesn't show up right away when I plug the device in, and sometimes I seem to need to quit and restart Xcode and/or iTunes (or reboot) in order to see it.
