static uitableviewcells with custom classes not showing content - ios

I'm working with Xcode 6.1.1, and I have a table view controller with static cells having 4 sections.
Section 0: contains two rows, each with 2 labels
Section 1: contains 7 image views
Section 2: contains 1 row with 1 label
Section 3: contains a variable number or rows each containing 2 image
views
I want to load all cells in the table view controller with data.
I gave each different row a reuse identifier (5 reuse identifiers in total), and I also created a class for each of the different kind of cells (5 classes)
I created outlets in the classes, and linked them in the storyboard each to its label/image view.
However I don't know how to proceed next.
If I implement the table view data source functions, I'm getting the correct number of cells, however they are all blank.
Here's how I'm creating the cells:
-(UITableViewCell*)tableView:(UITableView*)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath*)indexPath {
if (indexPath.section == 0 && indexPath.row == 0) {
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"MyCell1";
MyTableViewCell1 *cell = (MyTableViewCell1*)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[MyTableViewCell1 alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
}
} else {
//create other cells here
}
cell.label1.text=#"testing 123";
return cell;
}
However, I'm always getting cells with default style (my labels or image views are not appearing)
What am I missing?? What code should I write in the custom table view cell classes?
EDIT: After gavin's suggestion, I modified the delegate function to use the dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:forIndexPath
I also added: [self.tableView registerClass:[MyTableViewCell1 class] forCellReuseIdentifier:#"MyCell1"] to my viewdidload method.
Here's my final code:
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
[self.tableView registerClass:[MyTableViewCell1 class] forCellReuseIdentifier:#"MyCell1"];
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
if (section == 3 ) {
return 1;
} else {
return [super tableView:tableView numberOfRowsInSection:section];
}
}
-(UITableViewCell*)tableView:(UITableView*)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath*)indexPath
{
if (indexPath.section == 3) {
// make dynamic row's cell
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"MyCell1";
MyTableViewCell1 *cell = (MyTableViewCell1*) [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath];
[cell configureCellWithValues:#"17" andV2:#"13"];
return cell;
} else {
return [super tableView:tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath];
}
}
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView willDisplayCell:(UITableViewCell *)cell forRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
if (indexPath.section == 3) {
MyTableViewCell1 *c = (MyTableViewCell1 *) cell;
NSLog(#"willdisplay cell with values %#, %#",c.i1, c.i2);
[c.image1 setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"2"]];
}
}
And here's my custom cell's class:
#implementation MyTableViewCell1
- (void)awakeFromNib {
// Initialization code
}
- (void)setSelected:(BOOL)selected animated:(BOOL)animated {
[super setSelected:selected animated:animated];
// Configure the view for the selected state
}
- (void) configureCellWithValues: (NSString*) v1 andV2:(NSString*) v2 {
self.i1=v1;
self.i2=v2;
self.image1.image = [UIImage imageNamed:v1];
self.image2.image = [UIImage imageNamed:v2];
}
#end
The cells in section 3 are still not showing the images (not even the imageviews)

Look like you're using the old method of tableView reusable cell dequeueing - the new function accepts an indexPath as well as the cell identifier; it also now guarantees to return a cell (so no need for a nil check).
Here's your delegate function cleaned up:
-(UITableViewCell*)tableView:(UITableView*)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath*)indexPath {
if (indexPath.section == 0 && indexPath.row == 0) {
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"MyCell1";
MyTableViewCell1 *cell = (MyTableViewCell1*)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath];
} else {
//create other cells here
}
cell.label1.text=#"testing 123";
return cell;
}
Another tip would be to encapsulate your setting of the label values into each individual cell subclass, e.g. add a method called configure to MyTableViewCell1 that sets the label values to what you want displayed.

It seems that we can't generate custom static cells and try to access their outlets and change them (because their static) please correct me if i'm wrong because I couldn't access them at all.
I've solved my Problem by changing the TableView Type to Dynamic Cells, i didn't put any prototype cells in the tableview and I have created 3 different Cell Classes (with their nibs)
I have registered the nib files with the tableview by adding this to the viewdidload method:
[self.tableView registerNib:[UINib nibWithNibName:#"MyCellType1" bundle:nil] forCellReuseIdentifier:#"CellType1"];
[self.tableView registerNib:[UINib nibWithNibName:#"MyCellType2" bundle:nil] forCellReuseIdentifier:#"CellType2"];
[self.tableView registerNib:[UINib nibWithNibName:#"MyCellType3" bundle:nil] forCellReuseIdentifier:#"CellType3"];
then i fully customized my tableview methods:
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section {
// Return the number of rows in the section.
switch (section) {
case 0:
return 2;
break;
case 1:
return 1;
case 2:
return [self.myarray count];
default:
break;
}
return 0;
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
switch (indexPath.section) {
case 0: {
MyCellType1 *cell = (MyCellType1 *) [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"CellType1" forIndexPath:indexPath];
//this section always has 2 rows
if (indexPath.row==0) {
cell.lblTitle.text = #"ID";
cell.lblValue.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%i",1277];
} else {
cell.lblTitle.text = #"Date";
cell.lblValue.text = #"02/03/2015";
}
return cell;
}
break;
case 1: {
MyCellType2 *cell = (MyCellType2 *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"CellType2" forIndexPath:indexPath];
cell.image1.image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"3"];
cell.image2.image = [UIImage imageNamed:#"4"];
return cell;
}
case 2: {
MyCellType3 *cell = (MyCellType3 *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"CellType3" forIndexPath:indexPath];
cell.lblName.text = #"New Row";
return cell;
}
default:
break;
}
return nil;
}

How to use different table view cell class for different UITableView sections

Can I achieve this?
if (indexpath.section == 0) {
// Use Class 1
} else if (indexpath.section == 1) {
// Use Class 2
}
I tried this but not working
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView {
// Return the number of sections.
return 2;
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section {
// Return the number of rows in the section.
return 1;
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
if (indexPath.section == 0) {
OneTableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"One" forIndexPath:indexPath];
if( cell == nil){
cell = [[OneTableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:#"One"];
}
cell.oneLabel.text = #"HAHAHA";
return cell;
}else{
TwoTableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"Two" forIndexPath:indexPath];
if( cell == nil){
cell = [[TwoTableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:#"Two"];
}
cell.twoLabel.text = #"HEHEHE";
return cell;
}
}
From the code that you show, your oneLabel and twoLabel are never initialized. If you want a quick fix, you can replace both of them with textLabel. Something as the following,
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
if (indexPath.section == 0) {
OneTableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"One" forIndexPath:indexPath];
if( cell == nil){
cell = [[OneTableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:#"One"];
}
cell.textLabel.text = #"HAHAHA"; // Modified
return cell;
} else {
TwoTableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"Two" forIndexPath:indexPath];
if( cell == nil){
cell = [[TwoTableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:#"Two"];
}
cell.textLabel.text = #"HEHEHE"; // Modified
}
}
And you will be able to see different text for two different sections in the table view. And they are indeed different TableviewCell classes.
However, if you want to use different labels for different UITableViewCell, then you have to make sure that they are initialized somehow somewhere. For example, you could overwrite the default UITableviewCell initializer in your custom table view cell. For example, in your OneTableViewCell.m file, add the following between #implementation and #end. In this case, you can use your original code in the UITableView class.
#implementation OneTableViewCell
- (instancetype)initWithStyle:(UITableViewCellStyle)style
reuseIdentifier:(NSString *)reuseIdentifier
{
self = [super initWithStyle:style reuseIdentifier:reuseIdentifier];
if ( self ) {
_oneLabel = [[UILabel alloc] init];
[self.view addSubView:self.oneLabel];
}
return self;
}
#end

iPhone - UILabel staying outside of the UITableViewCell

I am making a UITableViewController that resizes UITableViewCell when I select the cell.
My problem is that the content that should be hidden when the cell is not expanded (UILabel), is always visible.
What am I doing wrong? Here is my code:
#pragma mark - Table view data source
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView
{
// Return the number of sections.
return 1;
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
// Return the number of rows in the section.
return 5;
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
NSString *CellIdentifier = #"TableViewCell";
TableViewCell *cell = (TableViewCell*)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:#"TableViewCell" owner:self options:nil] objectAtIndex:0];
}
cell.label.text = #"cenas";
return cell;
}
-(CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{
if (self.selectedCellIndexPath != nil && indexPath.row == self.selectedCellIndexPath.row) {
return 200;
}else{
return 44;
}
}
-(void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{
if (self.selectedCellIndexPath != nil && self.selectedCellIndexPath.row == indexPath.row) {
self.selectedCellIndexPath = nil;
}else{
self.selectedCellIndexPath = indexPath;
}
[tableView beginUpdates];
[tableView endUpdates];
}
And here are some pictures of what is happening:
In cellForRowAtIndexPath put the following code
if (self.selectedCellIndexPath != nil && indexPath.row == self.selectedCellIndexPath.row)
{
[YourLabel setHidden:NO];
}
else
{
[YourLabel setHidden:YES];
}
I found! I finally found!
I inserted inside of cellForRowAtIndexPath: the following:
[cell setClipsToBounds:YES];
This makes the content be only inside the cell
You need to manually hide/show the labels (Preferably with animation). Just because they are not inside the cells height, it doesn't mean they are hidden.
-(void)setSelectedCellIndexPath:(NSIndexPath*)indexPath
{
UITableViewCell *oldCell = [self.tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:_selectedIndexPath];
//oldCell can be nil due to possibility that it's not on screen.
[self hideOutletsForCell:oldCell];
_selectedIndexPath = indexPath;
UITableViewCell *newCell = [self.tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:_selectedIndexPath];
[self showOutletsForCell:newCell];
}
Also, you need to reset the outlets in cellForRowAtIndexPath, and only show outlets for the indexPath that is your _selectedIndexPath

UITableView Cells With DIfferent Format & Behavior in Same Table Section

I have a UITableView with one section. All of the cells in that one section have cells that are derived from a subclass of UITableViewCell called PLContactCell.
What I'd like to do is, for the very last row of the table only, not use a PLContactCell. I just want to use a normal UITableViewCell that I can format however I would like. I'd also like to be able to have this cell NOT respond to being tapped.
My initial cellForRowAtIndexPath method is:
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
PLContactCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:[PLContactCell reuseIdentifier]];
if (!cell) {
cell = [PLContactCell reusableCell];
cell.delegate = self;
}
id modelObject = [[sections objectAtIndex:indexPath.section] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
if ([modelObject isKindOfClass:[NSString class]]) {
[cell configureWithString:modelObject];
} else {
[cell configureWithUser:modelObject];
}
return cell;
}
EDIT
So I tried created a UITableView cell in the XIB file and added the reuse identifier of "newCell" to it. Then I added this code:
if (indexPath.row == [[sections objectAtIndex:indexPath.section] count] - 1) {
NSString *CellIdentifier = #"newCell";
noFormatCell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
}
This doesn't do anything. My question is, how do I access the last row of the section and how do I make it so that that cell it is not a PLContactCell but a UITableView Cell.
If it's always at the end, you might consider using the footer view of the UITableView. You can then keep some extra logic out of your UITableViewDataSource.
If it HAS to be as a cell, you'd have to add an extra row count on your last section, then do an if statement check to watch out for it in your -tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath: implementation. I would strongly urge you try the footer approach, as it's cleaner and way easier to figure out what you were doing a few months/years from now.
Here's some code. Note you'd need to make another section if you are using grouped style in the UITableView.
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
if (section == sections.count - 1) //Looking for last section
{
return [sections objectAtIndex:section].count + 1; //Add one to the last section
}
return [sections objectAtIndex:section].count;
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
NSInteger row = indexPath.row;
if ((sections.count == indexPath.section) && [sections objectAtIndex:indexPath.section].count == indexPath.row)
{
//Here you would create and return your UITableViewCell
}
PLContactCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:[PLContactCell reuseIdentifier]];
if (!cell) {
cell = [PLContactCell reusableCell];
cell.delegate = self;
}
id modelObject = [[sections objectAtIndex:indexPath.section] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
if ([modelObject isKindOfClass:[NSString class]]) {
[cell configureWithString:modelObject];
} else {
[cell configureWithUser:modelObject];
}
return cell;
}

TableView with multiple prototype cells

I had a simple question regarding a table view with 3 different kinds of prototype cells. The first two occur just once while the third occurs 4 times. Now what I'm confused about is how to specify in my cellforRowatindexpath which cell prototype to use for which row. So, I want something like for row 0, use prototype 1, for row 1, use prototype 2, for rows 3,4,5 and 6 use prototype 3. What's the best way to do this? Do i give each prototype an identifier and then use dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier ?
Can you'll provide some sample code?
EDIT:
Still not working. This is the code I have at the moment. ( I only have one case for the switch statment because I just want to test and see if the cell is being generated in the first row or not, but currently table view is blank)
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
switch(indexPath.row)
{
case 0: {static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"ACell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView
dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"ACell"];
if(cell==nil) {
cell=[[UITableViewCell alloc]
initWithStyle:(UITableViewCellStyleDefault) reuseIdentifier:#"ACell"];
}
return cell;
break;
}
}
}
Acell is my identifier for a cell prototype that I created. I
If you are using three prototype then use three identifiers. Because only one identifier will cause problem. And you will get wrong result. So code like this.
if(indexPath.row==0){
// Create first cell
}
if(indexPath.row==1){
// Create second cell
}
else{
// Create all others
}
You can use switch case also here for best performance.
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
CustomCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"cell"];
if (cell.tag == 0)
{
return array1.count;
}
else(cell.tag == 1)
{
return array2.count;
}
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *cellIdentifier;
NSString *membershipType = [membershipTypeArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
if ([membershipType isEqualToString:#"silver"]||[membershipType isEqualToString:#"gold"])
{
cellIdentifier = #"cell";
}
else if ([membershipType isEqualToString:#"platinum"])
{
cellIdentifier = #"premiumCustomCell";
cell.customCellImageView.image = [cellImageArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
}
cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
if (!cell) {
cell = [[CustomCell alloc]initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
}
cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone;
cell.headingLabel.text = [titleArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
}
Here i wrote code like:
#pragma mark == Tableview Datasource
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView {
return 2;
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section {
NSInteger nRows = 0;
switch (section) {
case 0:
nRows = shipData.count;
break;
case 1:
nRows = dataArray1.count;
break;
default:
break;
}
return nRows;
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{
NSString *cellIdentifier = #"cellIdentifier1";
NSString *cellIdentifier1 = #"cellIdentifier2";
SingleShippingDetailsCell *cell;
switch (indexPath.section) {
case 0:
cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
//Load data in this prototype cell
break;
case 1:
cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier1];
//Load data in this prototype cell
break;
default:
break;
}
return cell;
}

Setting up multiple sections in UITableView

I have setup a uitableview with custom cells.
I would like these into sections with a title. Looking at the below photo I am looking for the following layout:
Section - My Profile
Custom cell - wwwwwwwwwwwwww...
Section - Application
Custom cell - Games
Custom cell - Share
Custom cell - Rate
Custom cell - Settings
Custom cell - Help
Custom cell - Log out
I can see how to add a section and control the rows in a section, but this duplicates the cells into multiple sections, I am not sure how to have one section with one row and another section with 6 rows. I also want to style these sections to show, slightly like the Facebook menu style.
Should I create custom cells for the actual sections instead and have no action on the section (cell) selection?
Here is the code for the UITableView
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
LeftMenuTableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
NSArray* views = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:#"LeftMenuTableViewCell" owner:nil options:nil];
for (UIView *view in views) {
if([view isKindOfClass:[UITableViewCell class]]) {
cell = (LeftMenuTableViewCell*)view;
}
}
}
You could define number of sections and rows in it as following:
- (UIView *) tableview:(UITableView *)tableView viewForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
UIView view;
if(section == 0) {
// Initialise view for section 1
} else {
// Initialise view for section 2
}
}
-(NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView
{
return 2;
}
-(NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
return ((section == 0) ? 1 : 6);
}
-(UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
// return appropriate cell(s) based on section
if(indexPath.section == 0)
{
// Return 1 cell
}
else if(indexPath.section == 1)
{
switch(indexPath.row) {
case 0: // Initialize cell 1
break;
case 1: // Initialize cell 2
break;
...
}
}
return cell;
}
