I have installed jira on as a service on my server(myhost) on port 8009
Now I am able to access the jira on myhost:8009.
The problem is that I have other domains on the same host(myhost) say abc.com , xyz.com etc. And jira is available on all the domains as all these domains are on same host (myhost). So abc.com:8009 , xyz.com:8009 ...each domain has jira.
How can I Control this if I want jira on only one domain , not all domains on my host.
You should identify the IP of your "myhost", and in Tomcat set the Connector's address attribute to that IP.
If you have multiple domains pointing to a single IP, then set Tomcat to listen only on localhost (127.0.0.1), and set up an Apache (or other httpd you fancy) that only listens on the given domain name and set up a reverse proxy there.

I have several docker containers with some web applications running via docker compose. One of the containers is a custom DNS server with Bind and Webmin installed. Webmin gives a nice web UI allowing me to update Bind DNS configuration without directly modifying the files or SSHing into the container. I have docker setup to lookup DNS in this order:
my docker dns server
my companies internal dns server
google dns server
I have one master zone file for top level domain "example.com" defined in dns server 1. I added an address for server1.example.com and dns resolves correctly. I want other subdomains to be resolved from my companies internal dns server.
server1.example.com - resolves correctly
server2.example.com - this host is not referenced in the zone file for docker dns server. I would like to somehow delegate this to my companies dns server (server 2)
The goal is I should be able to do software development for web applications and deploy them on my docker containers. The code makes internal calls to other "example.com" hosts. I want some of those calls to get directed back to other docker containers rather than the real server because I am developing code on both and want to test it end to end.
I don't want to (and can't) modify my companies dns configuration. I am not an expert in bind or dns setup and looking for the simplest solution.
What configuration can achieve this?
I guess the workaround is to use fully qualified name when creating the zone file. Instead of creating a master zone example.com and listing server1 inside that zone I am creating a master zone with server1.example.com. It means I have to create a zone file for every server but I guess its ok to manage with a smaller number of hosts. server2.example.com then doesnt fall inside of a zone and gets resolved using the next dns server in the chain.
I have a little server in my local network that provides several web services. Each service can be accessed by entering the ip of the server followed by the respective port.
Now I always have to remember which service is behind which port and it would be nicer to have specific subdomains forwarded to these ports. For example
ip:1234 -> foo.server.local
ip:4321 -> bar.server.local
How can this be done? I have pihole running on the server and had hoped to get this done using pihole but I was not successful.

You use a domain to direct to an IP:port combo. Like you could direct 123.12.12.12:8080 to some.thing and 123.12.12.12:8081 to any.address.
The domain name is arbitrary and masks the whole IP:port address.
I have hosted my .Net project in IIS server and now I have the IP address.I want to change it to host name and I have already tried following steps
1) Add the Host Name in site bindings according to my existing IP address in IIS server
2) Do changes in host file(C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) according to the added host name
But I am getting following error when I navigate host name in browser
Bad Request - Invalid Hostname HTTP Error 400. The request hostname is
invalid.
What is the solution for this problem ??
Where did you host the IIS server? On-premise domain environment or Cloud VM with public firewall IP address?
If you are hosting the web server in domain environment, then you need to create a CNAME for your web server in DNS and set binding host header for your website in IIS.
If you are just hosting the web server in cloud VM, then you should purchase a public domain from domain provider like Godaddy and map the domain name to your Virtual machine'S public firewall address. After that, you should add host name to your IIS site. Finally, you should be able to access the website. Just remember to allow port number in firewall inbound rule.
I have a developed a web application based on asp.net mvc 4 framework and it works fine in visual studio. since we want to launch our website to public we bought a domain from the godaddy account. And in GoDaddy -> Domains -> Manage -> we mapped the domain name to public/external IP address e.g. 178.112.24.5 ( which is different from what i get in cmd-> ipcoonfig-> shows 192.168.0.2). I guess i should use the public ip addresss not the local ip address shown in the cmd -> ipconfig.
Now i created a web site under iis-> sites-> add new site -> mynewdomain -> with protocol as http, ipaddress as unassigned(default) , port as 80 and hostname as www.mynewdomain.com . But whenever i launch this site from iis, it routes to ISP router configuration login.html page(BTW i use Rogers Internet). So it also fails to launch from other network computers and chrome shows the error as ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED.

I tried to fix this by defining firewall rule for port 80 (selected domain,private and public ) , dnsflush and some suggestions from the above two links. But it didn't fix the issue.
You want host your app yourself, ok.
So:
1. To access your host from other networks you've open ports (80 for http and ) in your firewall, sure your local IP address will 192.168.0.2 and you can access your app from LAN on it. But others must get your external IP.
2. Next moment is your domain resolver, you must setup your Name Servers for your host external IP address.
Now what can you do:
First of all use DMZ for testing, it will be open all connections to your machine, but after testing setup your firewall and open only nessessary ports.
And if your internet provider gives you your external IP + not blocking connections you can host your application.
Sure this way of host your web site is not recommended because:
A. Windows 10 Home is not server OS.
B. You need minimum 100 MB/s Speed.
C. Not secured to use home router as firewall.

I just set up JIRA on my ec2 instance after installing it via .bin installer file. But when I hit the ec2 url:
ec2-xxxxx.xxxxx.amazonaws.com
It is hitting the test success page for apache2 which I installed after JIRA installation.
How do I get to determine the correct URL for JIRA and hit the JIRA app?

JIRA defaut http port is 8080. So you need access it via
ec2-xxxxx.xxxxx.amazonaws.com:8080
if you are not following the detault setting, then you need make sure which port are set by this document Changing JIRA's TCP Ports
You may need open the firewall port 8080 and set in one security group which you assign port 22 to be opened. Otherwise, you can't directly access that port.
Apart from the previous answer you may wish to ensure the following:
Your AWS EC2 Instance security group have the port opened
Your AWS VPC ACL allows TCP traffic on this port
Your VPC have an internet gateway
Your VPC have the routes configured
Your Apache proxy is configured to point to the Tomcat port
Your Tomcat is configured
You have enabled port allocation using setcap utility
Your local machine firewall enables the connection (in Red Hat ipconfig is enabled by default and blocks the connections)
As you can see it may be tricky to install Jira on AWS. It may be a good idea to use a deployment service like Deploy4Me to do this quickly.
