Set Title to TableViewController - Beginner - ios

I have a UIViewController called MyViewController. When I click on a button, I go to another UITableVIewController.
The code I use to navigate to this TableviewController is :
UIStoryboard *s = [UIStoryboard storyboardWithName:#"Main" bundle:nil];
UIViewController *v = [s instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:#"tbviewc"];
v.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal;
[self presentViewController:v animated:YES completion:NULL];
I have set the NavigationController to this TableViewController.
Now I want to set the title for it. How can I do this?
Nb: This is a storyboard application.
None of the following worked :
self.navigationItem.title = #"the title";

I guess your self.navigationController is nil
You should do this:
UIViewController *v = [s instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:#"tbviewc"];
UINavigationController *nav = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:s];
v.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal;
[self presentViewController:nav animated:YES completion:NULL];
Then try to use self.title = #"title"; in UIViewController(v)
Or not nil, try this:
UILabel *title = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0,40,100)];
title.text = #"title";
UINavigationController *nav = [UINavigationController new];
nav.navigationItem.titleView = title;

try
v.title = #"the title"
v is your UIViewController object.

Black screen after button click

I'm quite new to Objective-C. I want to go to another view controller but it shows me only the black screen after the button click. Is there something that I'm missing here?
Here is my code:
- (IBAction)measuring1stscan:(id)sender {
measuringscan *second = [[measuringscan alloc]initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil];
[self presentViewController:second animated:NO completion:NULL];
}
*measuringscan is the name for another view controller
viewConreoller default is no color, it is black. just add second.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor];
- (IBAction)measuring1stscan:(id)sender {
measuringscan *second = [[measuringscan alloc] init];
second.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor];
[self presentViewController:second animated:NO completion:NULL];
}
#rose is right try to give different color and then check.
Still you face same issue then try to run below code.
Embadded viewcontroller into navigation controller and give unique identifier to second viewcontroller.
- (IBAction)measuring1stscan:(id)sender
{
UIStoryboard *st = [UIStoryboard storyboardWithName:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"StoryboardWithName"] bundle:NULL];
measuringscan *second = [st instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:#"viewcontrollerIdentifier"];
[self.navigationController pushViewController:second animated:YES];
}
If you are using storyboard then use following
measuringscan *controller = [self.storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:#"StoryboardIdentifier"];
[self presentViewController:controller animated:YES completion:nil];
or
UIStoryboard *storyboard = [UIStoryboard storyboardWithName:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"StoryboardName"] bundle:nil];
measuringscan *controller = [storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:#"viewcontroller'sIdentifier"];
[self presentViewController:controller animated:YES completion:nil];
And if you aren't using storyboard instead you are using xib's then use following
measuringscan *controller = [[measuringscan alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil];
[self presentViewController:controller animated:YES completion:nil];
Points to remember (as said by #rmaddy)
Class name should be start with capital letter
Variable name should start with small letter
It is the naming convention that should be followed by a developer.

Button to Present ViewController After Tutorial (which Loads For 1st Time Only)

I have a tutorial ViewController called tutorialViewController which only presents itself for the first time the app is launched. This is how I do that:
NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults];
BOOL hasRunBefore = [defaults boolForKey:#"FirstRun"];
if (!hasRunBefore) {
[defaults setBool:YES forKey:#"FirstRun"];
self.window.rootViewController = [tutorialViewController new];
self.window.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
// RESideMenu Stuff that Must Be Done
leftSideMenuViewController *leftMenuViewController = [[leftSideMenuViewController alloc] init];
rightSideMenuViewController *rightMenuViewController = [[rightSideMenuViewController alloc] init];
musicPlayerViewController *navigationController = [[homeViewController alloc] init];
RESideMenu *sideMenuViewController = [[RESideMenu alloc] initWithContentViewController:navigationController
leftMenuViewController:leftMenuViewController
rightMenuViewController:rightMenuViewController];
sideMenuViewController.menuPreferredStatusBarStyle = 1;
sideMenuViewController.delegate = self;
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowColor = [UIColor blackColor];
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowOffset = CGSizeMake(0, 0);
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowOpacity = 0.6;
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowRadius = 12;
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowEnabled = YES;
self.window.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor];
}
else
{
NSLog (#"Not the first time this controller has been loaded");
UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:[[homeViewController alloc] init]];
// RESideMenu Stuff that Must Be Done
leftSideMenuViewController *leftMenuViewController = [[leftSideMenuViewController alloc] init];
rightSideMenuViewController *rightMenuViewController = [[rightSideMenuViewController alloc] init];
RESideMenu *sideMenuViewController = [[RESideMenu alloc] initWithContentViewController:navigationController
leftMenuViewController:leftMenuViewController
rightMenuViewController:rightMenuViewController];
sideMenuViewController.menuPreferredStatusBarStyle = 1;
sideMenuViewController.delegate = self;
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowColor = [UIColor blackColor];
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowOffset = CGSizeMake(0, 0);
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowOpacity = 0.6;
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowRadius = 12;
sideMenuViewController.contentViewShadowEnabled = YES;
self.window.rootViewController = sideMenuViewController;
self.window.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor];
}
This works well so far - if I load the app for the first time, it shows tutorialViewController. If I close it and open it again, it shows homeViewController.
I'd just like to know how to add an IBAction to take me from tutorialViewController to homeViewController. Currently, I wrote this:
- (IBAction)goToHomeViewController:(id)sender {
homeViewController *navigationController = [homeViewController new];
[self presentViewController:navigationController animated:YES completion:^{
}];
NSLog(#"Start button pressed");
}
It presents homeViewController but it does not show the navigation bar, etc. - as it would if homeViewController was the rootViewController.
Here are some more details
tutorialViewController does not show a status bar or a navigation bar. It is simply a scrollview that takes up the whole screen.
'homeViewControllerhas a navigation bar with a left bar button and right bar button that brings up otherviewControllers`.
I've searched other SO questions but they are mostly to do with Storyboards, which I am not using. Just .xibs (and .h and .m).
How do I present homeViewController from tutorialViewController just as it would display if homeViewController was the rootViewController?
Wrap homeViewController in a UINavigationController should work.
[self presentViewController:[[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:homeViewController] animated:YES: completion:nil]
You can also do like this.
In your 'if' condition add tutorialViewController as
UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:[[tutorialViewController alloc] init]];
And in the goToHomeViewController function add,
homeViewController *navigationController = [homeViewController new];
[self.navigation pushViewController:navigationController animated:NO];
So first time the tutorialViewController act as rootview controller and if you want to hide NavigationBar add following code,
[[self navigationController] setNavigationBarHidden:YES animated:YES];

Navigation bar not changing views

I'm doing an app with a Nav bar which will switch between the first and third views (the second and the first ones will be switched by a tab bar).
In the FirstViewController.h:
#property(strong,nonatomic) ThirdViewController *thirdViewController;
In the viewDidLoad method of the FirstViewController I made it:
self.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithTitle:#"Model"
style:UIBarButtonItemStylePlain target:self action:#selector(goToThirdView:)];
And also...
- (void)goToThirdView:(id)sender
{
ThirdViewController *thirdViewController = [[ThirdViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"ThirdViewController" bundle:nil];
self.thirdViewController = thirdViewController;
[UIView setAnimationTransition:UIViewAnimationTransitionFlipFromRight forView:self.view cache:YES];
[self.view removeFromSuperview];
[self.view insertSubview:self.thirdViewController.view atIndex:0];
[UIView commitAnimations];
}
My AppDelegate is looking like this:
UIViewController *viewController1 = [[FirstViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"FirstViewController" bundle:nil];
UINavigationController *navigationController1 = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:viewController1];
UIViewController *viewController2 = [[SecondViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"SecondViewController" bundle:nil];
self.tabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] init];
self.tabBarController.viewControllers = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:navigationController1, viewController2, nil];
self.window.rootViewController = self.tabBarController;
But it's not working, when I click in the button, nothing happens. Any idea ?
Thank you in advance.
You should leave the selector for the button as goToThirdView:, but make that method look like this:
- (void)goToThirdView:(id)sender {
ThirdViewController *thirdViewController = [[ThirdViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"ThirdViewController" bundle:nil];
[self.navigationController pushViewController:thirdViewController animated:YES];
}

Add a new viewcontroller to a tab controller

I have a tab bar controller created by a MainWindow.xib. I have 4 view controllers in it. Now i want to add a 5th item programatically (because I dont know which class I will have to use until compile time)
This is my code:
UIViewController * login = [[LoginUserViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"LoginUserViewController" bundle:nil];
NSMutableArray * viewControllersArray = [NSMutableArray arrayWithArray:self.tabBarController.viewControllers];
[viewControllersArray addObject:login];
[self.tabBarController setViewControllers:viewControllersArray
animated:YES];
But I get
[LoginUserViewController viewControllers]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x95791b0'
When I reach this code
UINavigationController *navController = [tabBarController.viewControllers lastObject];
LoginViewController * log = [navController.viewControllers objectAtIndex:0];
Where am I going wrong? Any ideas?
Thanks a lot
If this is all your code, it does not look like you are instantiating the navigation controller. Look at:
initWithRootViewController:
in the UINavigatorClass. I would replace:
UINavigationController *navController = [tabBarController.viewControllers lastObject];
with:
UINavigationController *navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController: [tabBarController.viewControllers lastObject]];
Edit:
One more thoughts:
Looks like you lucked out on the "tabBarController" property since you might have synthesized it as #synthesize tabBarController=tabBarController;
I strongly recommend you use the latest version of XCode which will automatically do the #synthesize for you. The line before last in your code should be self.tabBarController
You forgot that last tab is LoginUserViewController and not an instance of UINavigationController.
After adding LoginUserViewController to tab bar controller, your last view controller in tab bar controller's array will be LoginUserViewController and not an instance of UINavigationController
UINavigationController *navController = [tabBarController.viewControllers lastObject];
Hence above line will return LoginUserViewController's object in navController variable.
RecordsViewController *recordsViewController = [navController.viewControllers objectAtIndex:0];
Hence above line will cause crash as LoginUserViewController don't have viewControllers property.
Try this....
- (void) setUpTabBar {
FirstViewController *firstViewController = [[FirstViewController alloc]init];
firstViewController.title = #"First View";
firstViewController.tabBarItem = [[UITabBarItem alloc]initWithTabBarSystemItem:UITabBarSystemItemSearch tag:0];
UINavigationController *firstNavController = [[UINavigationController alloc]initWithRootViewController:firstViewController];
SecondViewController *secondViewController = [[SecondViewController alloc]init];
secondViewController.title = #"Second View";
secondViewController.tabBarItem = [[UITabBarItem alloc]initWithTabBarSystemItem:UITabBarSystemItemFavorites tag:1];
UINavigationController *secondNavController = [[UINavigationController alloc]initWithRootViewController:secondViewController];
ThirdViewController *thirdViewController = [[ThirdViewController alloc]init];
thirdViewController.title = #"Third View";
thirdViewController.tabBarItem = [[UITabBarItem alloc]initWithTabBarSystemItem:UITabBarSystemItemRecents tag:2];
UINavigationController *thirdNavController = [[UINavigationController alloc]initWithRootViewController:thirdViewController];
ForthViewController *forthViewController = [[ForthViewController alloc]init];
forthViewController.title = #"Forth View";
forthViewController.tabBarItem = [[UITabBarItem alloc]initWithTabBarSystemItem:UITabBarSystemItemHistory tag:2];
UINavigationController *forthNavController = [[UINavigationController alloc]initWithRootViewController:forthViewController];
tabBarController = [[UITabBarController alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil];
tabBarController.viewControllers = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:firstNavController, secondNavController, thirdNavController, forthNavController, nil];
tabBarController.delegate = self;
[self sizeViewToAvailableWindow:[tabBarController view]];
[firstNavController release];
[firstViewController release];
[secondNavController release];
[secondViewController release];
[thirdNavController release];
[thirdViewController release];
[forthNavController release];
[forthViewController release];
}

How to change the color of UITabbarViewController's navigationBar?

There is a UITabBarController
- (void)getToMCGatherViewController
{
mCGatherViewController = [[MCGatherViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"MCGatherViewController" bundle:nil];
UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:mCGatherViewController];
navigationController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal;
[self presentModalViewController:navigationController animated:YES];
[navigationController release];
}
In the .h file:
#interface MCGatherViewController : UITabBarController
In the .m file . I want to change the color of the view's navigationBar
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
self.navigationController.navigationBar.tintColor=[UIColor greenColor];
}
and it does not work at all.
Help me with this problem , thank you in advance!
just add
[navigationController.navigationBar setTintColor:[UIColor greenColor]];
after
UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:mCGatherViewController];
in your getToMCGatherViewController method.
Just edit your code like this and try I think this will work for you.
mCGatherViewController = [[MCGatherViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"MCGatherViewController" bundle:nil];
UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:mCGatherViewController];
navigationController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal;
[self.view addSubview:nav.view];
Then you change your Navigation Bar tint color.
