I just downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2014. And the problem is I cannot connect to ' (local) '.
Do you have any ideas how to fix it ?
Error message:
TITLE: Connect to Server
Cannot connect to (local).
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2)
Try localhost instead, and if that still does not work, try 127.0.0.1, try your internal address which should look something like 192.168.1.16
Please check the following steps:
Make sure that SQL Server service is up and running(You can check it via SQL Server Configuration Manager)
Make sure that SQL Browser service is up and running(You cab check it via SQL Server Configuration Manager)
Check for TCP/IP and Named Pipes protocols and port. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager and check the SQL Server Network Configuration protocols. You should enable Named Pipes and TCP/IP protocol.
Check to see if remote connections is enabled. Right click on the server name in SSMS and select Properties. Go to the Connections tab and make sure Allow remote connection to this server is checked. If you need to make a change, you must restart the SQL Server instance to apply the change.

I want to install SQL Server on my machıne whıch has Windows 10 operating system. When I use SQL Server Management Studio to connect to SQL Server, then I get this error:
I make firewall settings. And the server is running now as follows.
How can I fix this error ?
It appears that your "SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)" default instance is stopped - so therefore you cannot connect to . or (local).
You do have a "SQL Server (SQL2014)" instance up and running, so try using .\SQL2014 or (local)\SQL2014 for connection ....
You need to use .\SQL2014 and not just SQL2014 ..... the syntax is either just machinename, or then machinename\instancename -so if your instance is SQL2014, you need to use .\SQL2014 (or machine\SQL2014) to connect to it.
You're using SQL2014 which means, SQL Server is searching for a server machine by the name of SQL2014 and trying to connect to its default instance - which obviously fails.
I'm evaluating TeamCity 9.0.4 and using HSQLDB.
Now trying to setup MS SQL Server 2014 as External Database.I don't have a named instance(NULL).
So I tried the following connection URL
connectionUrl=jdbc:sqlserver://<host>:1433;databaseName=<database name>
connectionProperties.user=<user>
connectionProperties.password=<password>
When I trying to load the build server I'm getting this message.
TeamCity is starting
Continuing attempts to connect to the database
TeamCity server is connecting to MSSQL database. The database server
is not started yet, or the connection properties are not properly set.
And also I checked the log file, this is what I got.
[2015-05-20 14:08:34,513] INFO - jetbrains.buildServer.STARTUP -
Current stage: Continuing attempts to connect to the database
SQLSERVER is up,I think there is a problem with connection URL.
What can I do to solve this.

Thanks DevOps.
My mistake, I was testing TeamCity locally.
Problem was with the SQL Server Network Connection.
TCP/IP was disabled for SQLEXPRESS
Enable TCP/IP for SQLEXPRESS
Open SQL Server Configuration Manager
Go to Protocols for SQLEXPRESS under SQL Server Network
Configuration.
Right-click on TCP/IP and choose Properties. Set Enabled = YES.
Better check this too, click on IP Addresses tab and find the section
IP All. Set TCP Port to 1433.
I installed SQL Server 2012 but not able to connection to express instance getting below error:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
SQL Server is attempting to register a Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. Kerberos authentication will not be possible until a SPN is registered for the SQL Server service. This is an informational message. No user action is required.
2012-07-20 11:37:08.72 Server The SQL Server Network Interface library could not register the Service Principal Name (SPN) [ MSSQLSvc/VIPUL-MEHTA.XXXX.com ] for the SQL Server service. Windows return code: 0x2098, state: 15. Failure to register a SPN might cause integrated authentication to use NTLM instead of Kerberos. This is an informational message. Further action is only required if Kerberos authentication is required by authentication policies and if the SPN has not been manually registered.
Here is my SQL Server Configuration settings
In management studio I am providing below information to connect:
Server: .\MSSQLSERVER
Authentication: Windows Authentication
In SQL Server 2012 how can I change the settings of Surface Area Configuration.
I forgot the password for SA, so I cannot connect using SQL Server authentication.
Here is TCP IP Settings:
Just open incoming port 1433 in the Windows firewall for TCP access:

I just had this problem solved by following this guy's answer
Can't connect to localhost on SQL Server Express 2012 / 2016
re-installing SQL was the only solution in my case. Learning is always attach 2-3 windows account with SQL Server.
In my case, SqlServer Service was somehow stopped,i think it's because after installing MySql.I changed back it's state to 'Running', and it works now:
Go To Sql Server Configuration Manager
Click on 'Sql Server Services' in the left pane
Right click on the 'SQL Server' in the right pane and click on 'Start'

Using Visual Studio 2010 10.0.20319.1 RTMRel and SQL Server Express 10.50.1600.1 I'm trying to add a new SQL Server Database .mdf, however, I receive the following error:
A network-related or instance-specific
error occurred while establishing a
connection to SQL Server. The server
was not found or was not accessible.
Verify that the instance name is
correct and that SQL Server is
configured to allow remote
connections. (provider: SQL Network
Interfaces, error: 25 – Connection
string is not valid)
I have enabled TCP/IP and Named Pipelines, added Firewall Exceptions for Sql Server, I am successfully connecting from VS in the Server Explorer window.
I would appreciate if someone can pint me to a solution to my problem.
Thank you.
I think that SQL Server must be running locally to be able to create those databases.
I was getting the same error
Started my local .\SQLEXPRESS instance
no more error, and a cute .mdf file was created
According to your error
(provider: SQL Network Interfaces,
error: 25 – Connection string is not
valid)
check here what your connection string should look like

I've been running an ASP.NET MVC application on my IIS 7.5 localhost (on my Win7 Pro box) server with SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.
I went to put the application on my production server (IIS 7, SQL Server 2008) and am getting SQL Server connection errors. Here is the error I get when I try to browse site root:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while
establishing a connection to SQL
Server. The server was not found or
was not accessible. Verify that the
instance name is correct and that SQL
Server is configured to allow remote
connections. (provider: Named Pipes
Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a
connection to SQL Server)
I have triple checked my connection string. My host's connection string was in the format XXX.XX.XX.XX,XXXX. Is it normal to have a comma following the IP Address?
Does anyone have any suggestions for something I may be missing?
Thanks.
Take a look at this resource:
http://www.connectionstrings.com/sql-server-2008
A comma after the IP address indicates the port. It should be 1433 unless you have multiple instances.
First of all, make sure that the Windows Firewall (and any other firewall software) on that machine is configured to allow incoming connections to SQL Server. See here for instructions.
Second, check that the SQL Server Browser service in the database server machine is running. This is not necessary in all the connection scenarios, so you may need to provide more details. For example, are you using default listen ports for your server?
