Using vlc npapi plugin in chrome in linux - vlc

I want to use vlc web plugin on chrome in linux but this post says that chrome has stopped supporting npapi plugins. https://askubuntu.com/questions/487399/install-vlc-plugin-on-chrome
I am using vlc plugin in chrome on windows 7 and it works fine. I can see vlc web plugins when I do about://plugins.
But in Ubuntu 14.10, I cannot use vlc web plugin in chrome. I am able to use it on firefox, so its installed.
Is it true that chrome has taken down the support for npapi plugins
If yes, why I am still able to use it on windows but not on linux
Any help ?

This question seems off-topic for SO, but:
1) On Linux, yes, it is the case that NPAPI is no longer supported in Chromium.
2) Because the technical reasons for dropping NPAPI support early on Linux did not apply to Windows.

How to build a Windows driver development kit 7 on 10

I am trying to build a Windows driver for a piece of hardware I am using. The build notes seem dated as they specify using DDK for Win7. I have Windows kit version 10. Are these the same thing just later version? The instructions then state to open a DDK command window environment then use "build -ceZ" in the dir where the files are located. Does v10 have this console and if so where can I find it? Thanks
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/devtest/wdk-and-visual-studio-build-environment
"The Windows Driver Kit (WDK) 8.1 and WDK 8 introduced a major change
to the environment that you use to build a driver. The WDK no longer
uses Build.exe. The WDK build environment for drivers uses MSBuild.exe
and is fully integrated with the Visual Studio development
environment. This means that source files, makefile.inc, makefile.new
and other related build files present in the previous version of the
WDK are no longer used. The WDK now enables you to create, edit,
build, test, and deploy a driver through Visual Studio. The purpose of
this document is to provide information to help users familiar with
previous WDKs in getting started with the WDK 8.1 and WDK 8."
If you want to build the driver as is then you will need to install the Windows 7.1 DDK and build it using its tools.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Driver_Kit
https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=11800
You are allowed to install different versions of the DDK on the same machine.
You might find it tricky to install DDK 7.1 on Windows 10 though, try and use this to get around any problem install.
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/32091593/cannot-install-windows-sdk-7-1-on-windows-10#:~:text=If%20you%20continue%20with%20Setup,187668%20and%20then%20rerun%20Setup.
Then it's just a case of "choosing the 7.1 ddk environment (32bit or 64bit)" so that it's tools are accessible/used when "building" your driver.
Look in your startmenu at "StartMenu -> Windows Driver Kits -> WDK XXXX -> Build Environments" to find a command prompt to open.
If you can't/don't want to install the DDK 7.1 and a WDK8+ version of your driver project isn't available then it may be possible to convert the driver from using the older "makefile" into new msbuild way of building, but might be fiddly.
https://community.osr.com/discussion/289475/build-exe-to-msbuild-exe-migration-advice
"If you go into VS you should be able to create a WDK driver project.
It will give you a solution with (I think) one C file filled with
everything necessary to make a driver which does nothing. But, most
importantly, it will generate an XML file that MSBuild will accept.
The XML format is not documented. After you have this XML file you
should be able to figure out how to add your files to it by hand, but
you could move the existing driver files to the project using the GUI.
That may be easiest."

How to properly install Hack and HHVM on Windows 7

I am trying to install and configure Facebook programming language Hack and HHVM on Windows, probably Windows 7. I could not find any solution on it. I saw a Bitnami link which suggest HHVM Installers.
source
I have downloaded the installer files HHVM installer files
but it cannot run on Windows due .run extension filename. How can I achieve this using HACK and HHVM installations on Windows 7.
Hack and HHVM do not support Windows. There was some work in 2015, but it doesn't seem to have continued since then.
Recent versions of HHVM do not support PHP. The Bitnami link mentions running phpmyadmin, so it looks like it's targeting an old HHVM release.
Hack and HHVM do not support Windows but you can try Building and Installing HHVM on Cygwin or Installation: Building From Source although not recommended because they are monumental tasks.
You can also take a look at Building and Installing HHVM.
I personally gave up and installed the supported package in my Mac where I'm using Visual Studio Code with the HackLang plug-in for development.

Install a custom firefox web extension permanently - without mozilla account OR unstable vers of Firefox

I've built a chrome extension or two but am new to the Firefox add-on world. My custom Firefox add-on doesn't persist when Firefox is reopened. I don't see a straightforward way to self sign, or otherwise install an extension permanently. Is there one?
This is a different question than:
Install a personal firefox web extension permanently, because:
I don't want a MDN account
I don't want to install "blueish" Firefox (unstable developer edition)
Try this (worked for me):
Install Firefox Developer Edition
Open it, but first make sure the stable Firefox is not running
In the page about:profiles open the default profile (the one you use with your stable Firefox)
Install the add-on (xpinstall.signatures.required, web-ext build, ...)
Edit (warning): see #user202729 's comment below.

How to make Dartium stop at a breakpoint?

dI am trying to get back into Dart programming after a year of break. When I last used Dart I use the DartEditor, which has since been deprecated. Now, I am trying to use WebStorm, and Dartium to run the standard dart project templates.
When I build the Uber Simple Web Application, I can get Webstorm to start the Dartium browser and display the page, but I cannot get it to stop at a breakpoint. When I build the Polymer Web Application, WebStorm starts the Dartium browser, but never displays the page - the request is made but nothing happens!
I can open the projects with a standard browser without an issue.
I have installed the JetBrains IDE Support plugin.
Dartium version: 45.0.2454.104
Webstorm version: 2016.1.1 bld 145.597
Dart version: 1.16.0
There is currently an issue in WebStorm that breaks showing applications in Dartium related to caching. The pub serve window in WebStorm should show on which port your application is served. if you open the URL in Dartium using this port
http://localhost:thePort/index.html
then it should work.
An update containing a fix for this issue was announced for this week.
WebStorm 2016.1.2 and IntelliJ IDEA 2016.1.2 official releases are published now, all known problems regarding SDK 1.16 are fixed there.

Can you please suggest any thing ?
The Blackberry eclipse plugin is for 32bit version of Eclipse and Java sdk.
You must install all 32bit version.
