I downloaded visual studio 2015 and created asp.net vnext empty project.I added bower.json and grunt.js
When I define dependency, intellisense works fine for items but when I define item version intellisene not works and always says not available.
Only available since July 20th, 2015 on a Visual Studio update
more on it in Scott Guthrie blog post
I will suggest simply don't use VS 2015 just yet. It is good for some random checking and Hello World apps but i tried to convert my N-tier Enterprise application into V-Next MVC 6 using VS2015. It simple is not working for me.
VS keeps on restarting and it hangs when it goes to resolve dependencies automatically.

I just installed VS 2017 and am opening an MVC 5 project created in VS 2015. The application runs fine, but I am experiencing reduced interactivity between my MVC Razor view code and the 2017 IDE.
Here's is the context menu when I right-click on an HTML helper method in VS 2015:
However, I only see this in 2017:
Also notice the lack of syntax color-coding in the 2017 verison. It's like it's not recognizing Razor syntax at all.
I did not do any special solution/project upgrades. I just opened the solution in 2017 and expected it to prompt me to upgrade any files that needed upgrading.
So it turns out that the component installation for VS 2017 is modular in that you have to install exactly what you need. This is different from 2015 (at least as far as I recall) where all components are included with the installation.
I have a tendency not to read entire pages and just focus on what seems like the "most comprehensive" option. In my case, I selected only Universal Windows Platform development (doesn't that just sound like everything you'd need?). If I bothered to look at all the components, I would have seen ASP.NET and web development.
So, after modifying my installation, I am now seeing all the Razor syntax in my views.
Repair your Visual Studio installation. This happened to me as well.
Go to Tools Options and customize menus and ribbons
also have a look: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wdee4yb6.aspx
and or: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wdee4yb6(v=vs.110).aspx
try reset the existing window layout or menus and options.
or repair your VS
I've been trying to install VS 2015 Enterprise edition on my computer but keep running into an issue. Hunting through SO for the last 24 hours, I've already tried the devenv.exe /ResetUserData & clearing the VS cache fixes, uninstalling enterprise edition and installing professional edition (which still failed for the same reason) and then reinstalling enterprise edition. I've tried deleting the .vs folder before opening the solution, ensuring that the MVC versions in the /Views/ web.config matches the version of the sites web.config (MVC 5.2.3.0).
As of this morning, I've noticed that it only crashes when I try to open a razor view that wasn't created through Visual Studio 2015 (I was using VS 2012 previously, and I'm trying to work on this project in 2015 now that I have a license). I can right-click in the solution explorer to create a brand new view and write anything I want in it with intellisense and save it, and open it back up without any issues.
I get the whole "An exception has occurred, this may be caused by an extension" message and then visual studio restarts if I try to open up a view that was already created through VS 2012.
I've tried looking inside of the log that it provides but I'm a newer developer so I can't really deduce anything from it..I'll attach it if anyone else can make anything of it.
MS VS Enterprise 2015 - Version 14.0.25029.00 Update 2 RC - .NET Framework Version 4.6.01055
I just cleared out the ActivityLog.XML and forced the error to get a fresh set of details - http://pastebin.com/j7RbGJFP
I found the answer in this blog post - https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/webdev/2016/01/12/visual-studio-keeps-showing-suggested-extensions/. It has to do with the extensions suggestion - it turns out if you have files not included in your project, you can't view them because of a bug introduced through the extensions suggestion. If you turn that off and include the views in the project, VS won't crash and you'll have intellisense.
After installing Update 4 for VS 2013, I immediately started getting the message
This project is incompatible with the current version of Visual Studio
when I try to open all my MVC projects.
I've tried following advice on older posts, such as changing the version of visual studio, and checking for other updates, but none have worked.
I am using Visual Studio Premium 2013 and have .Net 4.5. It happens to projects that target both 4.0 and 4.5.
This is happening with MVC projects, but it does not happen when opening a simple project containing only .cs files.
Repairing Visual Studio turned out to be the solution.
I believe the initial update was unsuccessful because the C drive was low on space. Clearing up space, and repairing both .Net 4.5.1 and Visual Studio did the trick.
For some reason my Visual Studio 2013 Preview cannot create MVC 5 Projects. Since the MVC project is now open source in CodePlex I was wondering if there's a simple way to develop MVC 5 projects in my Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate.
Microsoft has released updated Web Tools 2013.1 that provide the support:
Description
Direct download
Note that I had to install it manually from the second link, the tools did not install properly from Web Platform Installer. Also a colleague had to install both Update 4 and these tools to get proper support.
Original answer (not actual anymore):
I received this answer from Microsoft developer:
MVC 5/Razor 3 tooling support for VS 2012 has not shipped yet. We hope to ship this support in Mid November.
Recently ASP.NET Program Manager from Microsoft mentioned in a talk that this would be included in VS2012 Update 4. Edit: unfortunately the support is not in Update 4.
So the accepted answer is true for now but we can plan to soon have this support in VS2012 as well.
A new tutorial has been recently added to the ASP.NET website on how to upgrade an MVC4 project to MVC5.
I migrated a VS 2012 project using this tutorial without problems, but there is no design time support for Razor 3 in VS2012 due to changes in the way VS loads the razor engine.
You can edit razor pages in VS2012, but it will be a plain HTML editor.
Microsoft has released an update for this, Web Tools 2013.1 for VS2012.

I'm not sure MS will fix it.
The bug report says problem closed : by design
https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/806348/razor-intellisense-does-not-work-in-visual-studio-2012-after-upgrading-to-mvc-5-razor-3
and it is mid November
I have a tutorial that will not only get your empty MVC 5 project working with Bundling, a controller, jQuery, jQuery UI, Modernizr and more, but it will walk you through installing Zurb's Foundation 5, a responsive Framework which I have working with Sass in MVC 5. It's all here:
http://tinyurl.com/VS12-MVC5-F5
The problem many have ran into is that Visual Studio 2012 only allows you to start from a blank MVC 5 project, so I will help you get the NuGet installed which is pretty similar to the instructions in the NuGet package with a few minor changes; however, it does not take into consideration that you will be installing from Visual Studio 2012 using a Blank MVC 5 project. If you would like to use Foundation 5 with MVC 4 Web Application template just omit the Bootstrap uninstall and the NuGet package should work fine, but if you need to use MVC 5 and you don’t have Visual Studio 2013, you will need to build the Home Controller, Bundling class, modify the Global.asax.cs as well as other quirky little things. So lets get started.
I spent a good part of a few hours getting it all working.
I have been working with visual studio 2010 Premium RTM for over a month. When I installed it I had a fresh install of windows. (No betas or previous versions of VS)
I have been creating new ASP.NET MVC2 C# projects since I installed it. I went to create a new mvc project today and I don't have that as an option anymore. I went in under the new project section not the new website section. I don't see it listed under C# or VB.
Is there a way to get that back without reinstalling visual studio?
I had this problem with Linq to SQL templates. Try the accepted answer on this other stack overflow question.
The solution was to run
devenv.exe /InstallVSTemplates
to reinstall the templates. It worked for me when I had missing templates in Visual Studio 2010.
