my app requires an object to be translated according to the user's touch on screen like Tinder. The objects are presented in UITableViewCells inside a UITableView. When I translate an object, the object goes under the top cell and it moves over the bottom cells. Please refer to the screen shots provided. My question is: How can I let the object move over the top cell while translating as well?
So, your Z-index is based on the order that views were added to the container. You should be able to call bringSubviewToFront: on your UITableView and pass in the cell you want to have on top. Then it should display over both the top and bottom cells.
Okay What I did is that where I'm handling the panning, when the panning begins, I type in
[self.superview bringSubviewToFront:self];
Hence, every cell in use will be automatically brought to the front.

I am trying to create a tinder like swipe left and right in UITableView cell. Here, the tableview cell contains an image view which I can move around with pan gesture. When I initiate the gesture on the image view, I want to move it freely over my device screen.
I am facing the problem that when I move the image view around it goes below the current cell. How can I bring the image view over all others so it doesn't go below the cell frame?
I tried using view.bringSubviewToFront but it doesn't work.
Please suggest a way I can achieve this.
An image view still contained in a cell is not going to be reliably brought on top of all other relevant views. You will have to move that view from the cell to the table view's parent view while dragging (and then return it to the cell if necessary at the end).
You will probably want to look into UIView.convert(_:from:) to figure out the frame to move the image view to in the parent view.
There are two views in my screen. The first part consists of a map and the second part consists of a tableview. After dragging the tableview part upwards the tableview occupies the entire screen. How to achieve this in ios?
First the bottom part should be a collectionView , second you can use UIPanGestureRecognizer to detect user pan and update the origin Y of the collectionView

Adding subviews using the addSubview: method to a UICollectionView is very bad practice. It can cause a lot of different problems in the normal behaviour of the CollectionView. It can obstruct the views underneath it, capture the touch events, preventing them from reaching the actual scrollView inside the CollectionView, etc. The subviews added using this method will also not scroll as the other elements in the CollectionView do.
The correct way to do what you want is to implement a new type of UICollectionViewCell for the dots, and compute their locations in the prepareForLayout and layoutAttributesForElementsInRect: methods. Basically you'll have either one or two cells in each row. Which ones will have two rows will be determined by you in the methods I've mentioned.
In fact, Apple's docs have a perfect example that's even more complex than what you're trying you achieve. You should check it out from this link.
May I know the purpose of that scroll view ? Because, if you're looking for a subview that displays only a label or image etc., You can use custom collectionview cell instead if I am not wrong... Hope it helps :) :)
I use custom cells of subclassing UITableViewCell in a table view. And There must be space between cells. I succesfully add the space with adding a subview that I called SpaceView into the content view. But When I touched the spaceView, it is perceived as I touched the cell. And didSelectRow method called. I tried to set spaceView's UserInteractionEnabled==NO. But It doesn't work.
So my question is; Is this the right way I used to add space between cells ? Should I try to add cells for making the space ? or If its the right way, How can I prevent calling "didSelectRowAtIndexPath" method when I touched spaceView ?
like Inder said below, u can use an UIButton to solve the issue.
1) in your custom cell: at the bottom of your custom cell add a blank UIButton with the height u actually need between cells, and customize its background color according to your needs.
2) in cellforrowatindexpath: disable button of each cell. (or you can also do that in Interface Builder of previous step)
result: u have a clear disabled button that will appear as required space between cells.
Make your spaceView as UIButton (I guess it's UIView right now)
When you add UIButton that touch will be consumed by the button thus touch won't be passed to it's parent.
OR
I'm not sure if it will work or not, you can add tap gesture to your spaceView
I'm creating my views programmatically. I have a UITableView in my UIViewController subclass that I want to add a scrolling subview to that is not a cell. I want to add some text-based subview to the UITableView that scrolls with the table and starts out above y=0 so the user will only see it if he pushes the table down. That is, it should reside above the first section of my table. If it helps for visualization, I intend to make something similar to those "scroll down to refresh" features and want some indication to the user that scrolling down causes a refresh. Is there any way to do this without something messy like using another UITableViewCell to represent it or abusing the UITableView delegate methods to move a view around whenever the user scrolls?
Simply using [tableView addSubview:] in my viewWillLoad only makes it appear for a split-second then disappear once the table data is loaded. This seems weird to me because UITableView is a subclass of UIScrollView, which is meant to hold other views in it. Using [tableView.backgroundView addSubview] does nothing.
P.S. Why not use a UIRefreshControl for this? I'm still undecided but leaning towards not using one because I don't like how slow that spinning wheel "feels" when the refreshes are usually very very quick. I've been looking at other options like flashing the background subtly and only showing a wheel if it's taking a longer time than usual.
I You can implement pull to refresh with only a table view
To do this using the scroll view delegate, since tableview is a subclass of scroll view.
Set view controller to be the tableview delegate and implement
(void)scrollViewDidScroll:(UIScrollView *)scrollView
When scrollview content offset y value passed a point, add a label to the viewcontroller.view not tableview. When you scroll back or release, remove the view.
You might also be able to add label to the table view and set the frame origin to negative y value, so when you pull the label will move into view (Never tested this do might not work)
