Why does Modernizr set drag and drop class for iOS devices - ios

Anyone know why Modernizr sets the class draganddrop on iOS devices? It's kinda hard to drag and drop a file in mobile Safari.
Is it a bug or feature?

Modernizr issue #637 covers this
Basically, the browser is technically capable of drag and drop, but the operating system does not present any ux in a way that would allow for you to actually do it.

jquery ui Drag and drop feature detection

I am using jQuery UI drag and drop on my website. I gather mobile devices generally do not support this functionality, so what is the simplest way to detect whether this feature will work or not, to provide an alternative in case it does not.
Note: I prefer feature detection over browser detection.
You can use Modernizr library as posted here Using Modernizr to detect drag and drop

What changes must be done to use the blackberry application code to work on Blackberry touch?

Hi I have been working on a blackberry app and developed about 90% of the app .But my client wants the app should work on blackberry touch also. So I just wanted to know what changes I will need to do to convert the same code to work on blackberry touch .Please help me I am new to Blackberry app development .
Just to confirm, we are talking about a Java application running on BB7 or earlier OS.
The short answer is, it depends.
If you have used standard RIM controls (buttons, ObjectChoiceField etc.) then these will work on the touch screen with no change. If you have used your own controls, for example an image button, then these might not work very well - for example the button might not be big enough to be hit easily with a fat finger.
The other problem is the virtual keyboard, it may appear at points when you do not want it to and not appear when you do. Not a problem on a lot of phones, but remember there are at least 2 non keyboard phones out there, so the Virtual keyboard is the only option for typing.
The best approach is work through each of your screens and try them in the Simulator. Zoom the Simulator so that it looks like the real device. And pretend you are using a finger, don't rely on the mouse because you can position the mouse very accurately.
I would raise new questions about specific Fields that you have problems with, rather than continue this with any issues you find.

How can I inspect elements on native iOS application

I am running an iOS native app on iOS Simulator and would like to inspect the elements on the app to get the ID.
Does anyone knows how this can be done?
Note: Please, this question is for iOS native App not Web based app!
Thanks
It sounds like you may be looking for something like Firebug or the Chrome Inspector for your native app? I'm not sure what you mean by "ID". Interface elements in iOS don't really have IDs the same way DOM elements have IDs.
You should check out the Spark Inspector (http://www.sparkinspector.com/), which allows you to see the views of your app and modify them at runtime - it may help you see what you're looking for. Full disclosure: I am the author of the app ;-)
There is a new app, called Reveal, that does an incredible job.
Not only you can check view's properties, you can also view all the app in a "exploded" 3D view, change the sizes and properties.
Specially for iOS 7, where the view controller starts from the beginning of the screen (and not below the navigation bar), it can be really useful.
You can download the trial at http://revealapp.com and decide which license you should get.
There are two Best ways for this -
Use Accessibility Inspector which is Apples's inbuilt tool so you don't need any other support .
As you will be using Xcode mostly for you code part, there is an option to play UI recording which capture all the actions and elements that you interact with on native app.
You need to inspect the App's Bundle.
Check this answer on stackoverflow, to get the appID: https://stackoverflow.com/a/8883166/933887
Appium has an inspector for ios applications.
This is the link for appium: http://appium.io/
and in this video you can see the inspector in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQZTRz2W9xg

Website for iPad Mobile Safari

While creating a website for iPad Mobile Safari, I have a few questions;
Does the orientation happen automatically or do we have to write code for that ?
What is the best approach in terms of CSS/JS..I mean create separate copy of the web CSS for iPad and just update for iPad specific. Also what about JS?
What is the best way to detect for iPad (CSS/JS) and how?
Any online references which specifically covers iPad Mobile Safari development will also be great.
Thank you.
The orientation happens automatically, but you can write code to intercept the event and do things.
I highly recommend using an existing JS library such as Sencha Touch to handle the UI for you; they automatically detect the client and will display the appropriate scale of the app.
I just added a few meta tags to my current project, based on this page - http://www.nczonline.net/blog/2010/04/06/ipad-web-development-tips/
It made a huge difference. The orientation media queries work great. I madea simple example by setting the body background colour different based on orientation.

drag and drop not working on iPAD

I would like to use sortable HTML tables driven by a Javascript API (e.g., BBC Glow) with the iPAD - however, I cannot drag an otherwise draggable item using the iPAD as the entire page scrolls instead of the element I would like to drag.
Is there a way around this?
was just about to ask this same question... but in a different way. no, iPad does not support the idea of "double clicking" or "drag/drop"... so my question was going to be "what are best-practices for modifying an existing UI so that it works for iPad/iPhone?"
ran across this project while researching:
http://www.gotproject.com/blog/post2.html
I would start by looking over how this guy's code works, and try something like that...
Firstly, use jquery UI http://jqueryui.com/demos/ for drag and drop functionality
and then add this script https://github.com/furf/jquery-ui-touch-punch for playing it in Ipad or Iphone.
Hope it helps.
