out of the method, make it public.
When you create the table view write this line where you create the table (in viewDidLoad or your method where you create the table)
[dataTable registerClass:[UITableViewCell class] forCellReuseIdentifier:tableIdentifier];
Remove cell condition from
(UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
method because your table view cell is not nil and you can't set the cell style.
So you have to write
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier];

I have a UITableView with sections inside of them. All works great, but I can't seem to figure out how to customize the very fist index path. For example, I know this is very easily achievable through a normal tableview like so:

I have tried the above implementation and it does not seem to work for me. Is there a different approach for section headers to achieve the same result with a normal tableview? Do I need to inject a "fake" section in my dictionary?

You should move it out of the if statement.

You are trying to set textLabel of unallocated cell which have no effect on cell. Cell is returned nil because tableview don't have any cell that can be reused, so it is your responsibility to check for nil and make new Cell if needed.

If the cellForRowAtIndexPath callback is never called, it could be:
you didn't have set the dataSource of your tableview;
you didn't implement the numberOfSectionsInTableView: and/or tableView:numberOfRowsInSection: callbacks.
And if you dequeue your cell, you need to set the text outside the if branch like this:

geniusname is the NSString you stored the name of the person.
I'm trying to write an app that connects to my web service and displays data in a table view. I also have a static table view for a menu. The static table view works (responds to clicks, shows options, etc.) but I'm stumped on getting the second table view working. There is no more than 1 table view per window. I'll be adding about 10 table views.

My tableview works perfectly fine when not in editing mode. All cells show up as expected, but if I enter editing mode and scroll, the cells that are redrawn while in editing mode have the incorrect content. In my function that turns off editing, I reload the table data and it shows up correctly again.
