Hello I am very new to programming and ant, but wanted to learn and need some help from available Gurus.
At the moment we have build system and it builds on every code check-in, but many times there are build failures.
I wanted to know if there is any way to create ant target by which it can send out email notification to the person who broke the build with the error?

What system is this?
Normally, this functionality would be found in your continuous integration system, something like Jenkins, Bamboo, Team City, or Travis
For sending mail use ant mail logger.
To work out who broke the build depends upon your version control system => cvs, svn, git .. etc.Each of that tools provides it's specific ways to detect the person that did the checkin, commit, push ..
IMO it's better to send the mail to a list of recipients that are responsible for the application than to one person only - which may be out of office .. etc.

I have a strange use case here I know, but basically I have a CI / CD solution that starts be a developer creating a zip file of a set of resources. This zip is then sucked in to SVN via the tools internal programs.
Currently the solution works, using the FSTRigger to poll for an updated zip. When it see it, then the process kicks off and we're happy.
going forward I'd like the builds to be triggered by a Jira job reaching a certain status and have been looking at the Jira trigger plugin. It looks like it will help satisfy me with regards the triggering of the build and passing data from Jira to Jenkins to use for delivery notes etc. However it would still depend on the zip file being in a certain location to be picked up.
I'm wondering if it's possible to attach the zip to the Jira task and then as part of the task status hitting 'build' kick off the Jenkins job and copy the zip so it can be picked up by by the Jenkins build task.
for reasons to complex to mention, checking the zip into svn first won't really work.
When your Jenkins build is triggered via jira-trigger-plugin, you would be able to access JIRA_ISSUE_KEY environment variable that contains the JIRA issue which status has changed.
With the JIRA issue key, you can hit Get Issue JIRA REST API to retrieve the issue details. The issue details would contain the attachment information, which would then be able to be used for downloading the zip in Jenkins.
I have a plugin in Jenkins for Checkmarx which scans the source code for static code analysis. Is there to make that plugin be compulsory for every job in jenkins?
For that matter any plugin.
The answer, that you probably don't want to hear, is: No.
The only way you can enforce something to happen at all times, is by writing your own plugin for your own "Project type" (instead of Maven or Free-style), and then enforce that everyone uses your project type.
Found a implicit way to do it.
Using jenkins rest api(batch,python,ruby) - run through all job
config.xml.
Download the jobConfig.xml
Update the xml with the plugin(checkmarx in this case) config
Upload(POST) it back to jenkins server.
Run this on a schedule and it shall force everyone to use it.
As I said its an implicit way of doing it.
Checkmarx plugin provides a build step, so it will run every time the job runs. No need to force, if I understand the question correctly. Just make sure the "Skip scan if triggered by SCM Changes" flag is unchecked, which is the default. Downloading the config.xml for the job and posting it back is a bad idea for several reasons. First checkmarx does not require the code to be compiled so you are wasting precious cycles on a build slave. Second Jenkins jobs can do more than compile and they could deploy to production accidentally. Just don't do it. The best way to do what you want to do is to download the config.xml file and then extract the repository url. You can use the Checkmarx rest api to perform a scan. You can probably name the program in checkmarx in some way to relate it back to the jenkins job.
I have a requirement to do a dependent build using Jenkins Following is the requirement:
Project 1 has a branch which is used among two release lines. For example project1 development branch ikt/master is share in two release line rel1.2_4GB and rel_1.2_2JB.
When ever a change is submitted in ikt/master of project1 it should trigger build of both the release line rel1.2_4GB and rel_1.2_2JB simultaneously.
Build results should wait for other build to pass means both builds should be green.
Please suggest me steps using both plugin as well as without plugin (if possible).

I think your best option is to use the Parameterized Trigger Plugin to do this.
It's very simple and easy to use and you can trigger several child jobs and wait for their results. Based on their results, you can choose to fail or pass the build.
I suggest you read some more about it and do some experimenting. It works very well for me.

NOTE - I suggest not wasting time looking for a non plugin solution. If you have a good tool, use it. Don't loose time trying to be smarter...
Jenkins says a build succeeded or failed, but can it identify the exact commit (and author!) that caused a build to fail?
This issue would seem to indicate no.

That page was talking about the "find bugs" plugin, not the normal build cycle. Depending on how things are setup Jenkins can identify the exact commit and author that caused a failure. If Jenkins has the appropriate source control plugins installed and is configured to know about the repository the build is tied to then for every build it will list the changes since the last build.
In addition, Jenkins has the capability in many of its reporting plugins to blame the faulty committer. It can, for example, send an e-mail notification on a failed build to the developer that made the faulty commit.
However, many setups make it difficult for Jenkins to know. For example, if Jenkins is configured for daily builds then there are likely many commits which could have caused the issue. It's also possible that Jenkins isn't configured to know about the source control repository, or there is no source control repository. All of these issues could cause Jenkins to be unable to identify the build breaker.
Specifically for e-mailing faulty committers you can use the email-ext plugin which has options to send e-mails to everyone that committed since the last successful build.

I think what you're asking for is impossible in some cases. Determining who the culprit is requires insight into conflict resolution that only a human can decide. Even still, sometimes a manager has to be involved in order to arbitrate. Say for instance you get 3 commits (A,B,C) that depend on a preexisting definition. However, another commit (D) modifies the behavior of that function. Which do you revert? Perhaps it's the business plan to keep A,B,C as is and return D to its original state. The opposite, modifying A,B,C to adapt to the changes of D, is also possible.
In the cases where a machine can handle the arbitration, it is the responsibility of unit tests, and static analyzers, to determine the culprit (although still imperfect). Static analyzers sometimes have built in features that email the person who committed a violation. Unit tests can be written that notify teams or team members responsible for a failed test. Both could work in the same way that identifies who was the last committer on a particular line that failed. Still, if it is a problem with linking, then perhaps some members should be associated with the particular makefile.
I am using MSBuild for building our test project from command prompt which inturn uses nunit and gives the results. I want to schedule it nightly so that it automatically runs the msbuild and get the results. Is there any way I can do that?
I would recommend using a Continuous integration server for this. You can set up your continuous integration server to schedule builds and a number of other tasks. Personally, I use Team City from Jetbrains, but there are other options available, such as Cruise Control.net and Hudson.
What exactly do you want to do with the results? If you just need to run your build script, a simple scheduled task should do it.
The way my company solved the problem was to use Powershell. We have a scheduled task that executes a powershell script that completely automates the process using MSBuild and devenv.exe.
We've been able to do away with the expense of many other continuous integration tools with this process. We have even connected it to our svn server so that it can checkout the latest revision, build it, send out an email if there was a build error and send the output of the screen as a result log.
I realize this might not be simple answer you're looking for, but Powershell was really easy for me to learn, exceedingly customizable, and very powerful. I had doubts when my Director said we were moving this way, but it's been a delight.
