Creating image frame not displaying in simulator - ios

I have an app that captures the users signature, myviewcontroller displays the signature capture. I'm attempting to create a rectangle in the center of the screen that is centered for this to happen using CGRect. When I run this I get no errors, but I get the picture below and I can't figure out what is causing this.
Within the CGRect code, I am trying to have the rectangle that is created be centered in the middle of the screen, and the target device is ipad. I've posted both the .h and .m files, the .m file is incomplete as the rest has to do with the code used to capture the signature then save it.
Any help would be appreciated.
//MyViewController.h
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#import <CoreData/CoreData.h>
#import <Foundation/Foundation.h>
#interface MyViewController : UIViewController <UIAlertViewDelegate>
#property (nonatomic, strong) UIImageView *mySignatureImage;
#property (nonatomic, assign) CGPoint lastContactPoint1, lastContactPoint2, currentPoint;
#property (nonatomic, assign) CGRect imageFrame;
#property (nonatomic, assign) BOOL fingerMoved;
#property (nonatomic, assign) float navbarHeight;
#property (nonatomic, assign) UIImageView* imageView;
#property (nonatomic, retain) NSData*image;
#property (strong, nonatomic) NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext;
//Save and cancel buttons
- (IBAction)cancel:(id)sender;
- (IBAction)save:(id)sender;
#end
//MyViewController.m
#import "MyViewController.h"
#interface MyViewController ()
#end
#implementation MyViewController
#synthesize mySignatureImage;
#synthesize lastContactPoint1, lastContactPoint2, currentPoint;
#synthesize imageFrame;
#synthesize fingerMoved;
#synthesize navbarHeight;
#synthesize image;
#synthesize imageView;
- (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil
{
self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil];
if (self) {
// Custom initialization
}
return self;
}
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor lightGrayColor];
CGRect imageFrame = CGRectMake(
CGRectGetMidX(self.view.frame) - CGRectGetMidX(imageView.frame),
CGRectGetMidY(self.view.frame) - CGRectGetMidY(imageView.frame),
CGRectGetWidth(imageView.frame),
CGRectGetHeight(imageView.frame));
// //allocate an image view and add to the main view
mySignatureImage = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:nil];
mySignatureImage.frame = imageFrame;
mySignatureImage.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
[self.view addSubview:mySignatureImage];
}

Move the code (except for [super viewDidLoad]) in viewDidLoad to a later stage, such as viewWillAppear. During viewDidLoad the layout of the views is not yet complete so their bounds/frames are not yet set to their final values.

Try to replace this line:
mySignatureImage = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:nil];
with:
mySignatureImage = [[UIImageView alloc] init];

Cannot set the value of a NSString from another class

I've searched all over google, and stack overflow for a solution, but I wasn't able to find an answer that solved my problem. Sorry for the long post, as I'm trying to give as much information as I can. I'm new to iOS and Objective- c, but not programming in general due to being asked to switch over from Android by my company, so any help is appreciated.
I'm trying to assign a value to an NSString in one class from a TextField in another, but I get the error:
**-[ViewController name:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x78712fe0**
when I run the app in the simulator.

From the ViewController.m, in - (void)setUserInterfaceValues
self.nameText.text = self.userInfoObject.name;
(I assume that this applies to the other two lines below it also)
Also from the ViewController.m, in - (void)viewDidLoad
[self setUserInterfaceValues];
And finally from the AppDelegate.m, in - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions
self.window.rootViewController = self.viewController;
From what I understand, and have learned from searching this issue, the app is trying to send data to something that doesn't exist, the NSString name being the culprit. Others have suggested to make sure that my .xib file is connected to the ViewController, and I have verified that it is.
As another bit of information, I'm not using a storyboard for this app, and instead am using the interface builder. I'm aware that there are advantages to storyboards, and I would like to be using them, but my company uses the interface builder and does a lot of things programmatically, so I'm learning to develop without.
[EDIT]: Issue solved thanks to Ian.

UILabel method won't return

I keep getting the declaration hides instance variable, but i don't know where to call it. I'm trying to reference it programmatically. I created the UILabel Programmatically so I don't have anything to drag it to in .xib

[self.navigationController.navigationBar addSubview:parseLabel];

I think i'm just overlooking something simple because its a simple error. please help :)
Its easy thing, Look at this:
in your .h you declared
#property (nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UILabel *parseLabel;
And in you -(UILabel *)parseLabel you did this:
UILabel *parseLabel = [[UILabel alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(180, 1, 200, 40)];
The variable names are same. Thats why you are getting this error. :)

[emergencyAlert show];
emergAlertCounter = emergAlertCounter+1;
}
}
for some reason, when i run the app, the scroll view is not scrolling. I have set the property to scroll in the interface builder.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
You'll have to make sure your scroll view is smaller than 320 x 1000 and that the embedded view is larger than 320 x 1000

My text doesn't show up inside UITextView

My view controller contains an UIImageView and a UITextView below. This is my code:
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#interface DescriptionViewController : UIViewController
#property (nonatomic, strong) IBOutlet UIImageView *descriptionImage;
#property (nonatomic, strong) IBOutlet UITextView *descriptionText;
#property (nonatomic, strong) NSString *text;
#property (nonatomic, strong) NSString *image;
#end
#interface DescriptionViewController ()
#end
#implementation DescriptionViewController
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
self.descriptionText = [[UITextView alloc] init];
self.descriptionImage.image = [UIImage imageWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:[NSURL URLWithString:self.image]]];
self.descriptionText.text = self.text;
NSLog(#"%#", self.descriptionText.text);
}
#end
My code doesn't show up in textview, but I can print it using NSLog.
What could be the problem ?
You're initializing a new UITextView here.-
self.descriptionText = [[UITextView alloc] init];
This way, you get a new UITextView not linked with the main view. Remove that line and make sure descriptionText is properly linked in your xib or storyboard.
However, if your intention was actually programmatically creating a new UITextView from scratch, then you'll also have to programmatically add it to your main view.

dynamically generated UIButton in iOS 5 ARC causes deallocated instance crash

I have a a class I created to generate UIButton's I add to my UIView. This worked great until my conversion to ARC yesterday, not I get the following error:
-[OrderTypeButton performSelector:withObject:withObject:]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x12449f70
Here is the code to add the button to my UIView (actually a subview in my main UIView):
OrderTypeButton *btn = [[OrderTypeButton alloc]initWithOrderType:#"All Orders" withOrderCount:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%i",[self.ordersPlacedList count]] hasOpenOrder:NO];
btn.view.tag = 6969;
btn.delegate = self;
[btn.view setFrame:CGRectMake((col * width)+ colspacer, rowHeight + (row * height), frameWidth, frameHeight)];
[self.statsView addSubview:btn.view];
And here is my class header:
#import <UIKit/UIKit.h>
#protocol OrderTypeButtonDelegate
-(void) tapped:(id)sender withOrderType:(NSString*) orderType;
#end
#interface OrderTypeButton : UIViewController {
id<OrderTypeButtonDelegate> __unsafe_unretained delegate;
IBOutlet UILabel *lblOrderType;
IBOutlet UILabel *lblOrderCount;
NSString *orderType;
NSString *orderCount;
BOOL hasOpenOrder;
}
#property (nonatomic, strong) IBOutlet UIButton *orderButton;
#property (nonatomic, strong) IBOutlet UILabel *lblOrderType;
#property (nonatomic, strong) IBOutlet UILabel *lblOrderCount;
#property (nonatomic, strong) NSString *orderType;
#property (nonatomic, strong) NSString *orderCount;
#property (nonatomic, assign) BOOL hasOpenOrder;
#property (nonatomic, unsafe_unretained) id<OrderTypeButtonDelegate> delegate;
-(id) initWithOrderType: (NSString *) anOrderType withOrderCount: (NSString *) anOrderCount hasOpenOrder: (BOOL) openOrder;
-(IBAction)btnTapped:(id)sender;
#end
Implementation:
#import "OrderTypeButton.h"
#implementation OrderTypeButton
#synthesize orderButton;
#synthesize lblOrderType, lblOrderCount, orderType, orderCount, hasOpenOrder, delegate;
-(id) initWithOrderType: (NSString *) anOrderType withOrderCount: (NSString *) anOrderCount hasOpenOrder: (BOOL) openOrder {
if ((self = [super init])) {
self.orderType = anOrderType;
self.orderCount = anOrderCount;
self.hasOpenOrder = openOrder;
}
return self;
}
- (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning
{
// Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview.
[super didReceiveMemoryWarning];
}
#pragma mark - View lifecycle
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
self.lblOrderType.text =[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#", self.orderType];
self.lblOrderCount.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#", self.orderCount];
if (self.hasOpenOrder) {
[self.orderButton setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"background-order-btn-red.png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
self.lblOrderType.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
self.lblOrderCount.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
}
}
-(IBAction)btnTapped:(id)sender {
NSLog(#"TAPPED");
if ([self delegate] ) {
[delegate tapped:sender withOrderType:self.orderType];
}
}
- (void)viewDidUnload
{
[self setOrderButton:nil];
[super viewDidUnload];
}
- (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation
{
return YES;
}
#end
This seems fairly simple what I am doing here, not sure what changed with ARC that is causing me problems.
Maybe ARC autorelease created button, try to store created buttons in Array
//.h file
#property (nonatomic, strong) NSArray *buttonsArray
//.m file
#synthesize buttonsArray
...
- (void)viewDidLoad {
buttonsArray = [NSArray array];
...
OrderTypeButton *btn = [[OrderTypeButton alloc]initWithOrderType:#"All Orders"
withOrderCount:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%i",[self.ordersPlacedList count]]
hasOpenOrder:NO];
btn.view.tag = 6969;
btn.delegate = self;
[btn.view setFrame:CGRectMake((col * width)+ colspacer, rowHeight + (row * height), frameWidth, frameHeight)];
[self.statsView addSubview:btn.view];
//Add button to array
[buttonsArray addObject:btn];
Also this approach will help if you want to change buttons, or remove some specific button from view
