I want to get NSDate from a string. The input strings are in format of : "2014-06-27 15:21:02"
I use the code below but i get nil:
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-DD hh:mm:ss"];
NSDate *dateFromString = [[NSDate alloc] init];
dateFromString = [dateFormatter dateFromString:edditedString];
When you look into the Data Formatting Guide you can see that your format string should be:
yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss
To be able to resolve the date from your string..
Just to simplify your code, the initializer on dateFromString is not necessary, it is easier doing:
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"];
NSDate *dateFromString = [dateFormatter dateFromString:edditedString];

I am trying to convert date with specific formate and just wanted to get date from passed date as shown below but getting nil
What am I doing wrong?
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setFormatterBehavior:NSDateFormatterBehavior10_4];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.SSS"];
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString: [dicValues valueForKey:#"DateNeeded"]];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"dd/MM/yyyy h:mm a"];
NSString *strSubTitle = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:#"%#", [dateFormatter stringFromDate:date]];
Date i am receiving is : 2016-11-17T23:46:50.35 , 2016-11-28T21:25:20.927 and 2016-11-29T00:00:00
You need to convert
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"];
to this
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS"];
As in your date string you are receiving MilliSeconds also
Edit
This code is working for me, check the date format which you are getting from server
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setFormatterBehavior:NSDateFormatterBehavior10_4];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS"];
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString: #"2016-11-28T21:25:20.927"];
if (date == nil) {
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss"];
date = [dateFormatter dateFromString: #"2016-11-28T21:25:20.927"];
}
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"dd/MM/yyyy h:mm a"];
NSString *strSubTitle = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:#"%#", [dateFormatter stringFromDate:date]];
[dicValues valueForKey: #"DateNeeded"] is either nil or does not match the specified format "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss".
First check that date you receive, is in yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss format. If not then make this format according to date you received.
For Example, you received date 29/11/16, then your code will be like this
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"dd/MM/yy"];
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString: [dicValues valueForKey:#"DateNeeded"]];
Once you get date, then convert it any format you want.
try
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS"];
I have datetime format like this
2015-10-06 12:39:12
when i try to convert into nsdate it return me null. i am using below code for it.
NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[formatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss Z"];
NSDate *date = [formatter dateFromString:user_post.modification_date];
Please tell me how can i convert it into correct NSDate?
dateString is your date in string format.
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setTimeZone:[NSTimeZone timeZoneWithName:#"GMT"]];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"];
NSDate *dateFromString = [[NSDate alloc] init];
dateFromString = [dateFormatter dateFromString:dateString];
Try to set like this
NSDate *currDate = [NSDate date];
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc]init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"YYYY-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"];
NSString *dateString = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:currDate];
Change this line only.
[formatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"];
Z is the timeZone
I suggest you to set the timezone, can be the cause of the problem
[formatter setTimeZone:[NSTimeZone timeZoneWithName:#"GMT"]];
[formatter setLocale:[[NSLocale alloc] initWithLocaleIdentifier:#"en_US"]];
I am trying to convert a NSString into a NSDate as shown below.
The value of NSString *startTime is 2015-06-23T01:37:53Z,
but the value of NSDate *startTimeDate is nil. What is wrong with the code ?
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setTimeZone:[NSTimeZone timeZoneWithName:#"PST"]];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'"];
NSDate *startTimeDate = [dateFormatter dateFromString:startTime];
check your date format
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'"];
change into
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ"];
Swift
check your date format
dateFormatter.dateFormat = "yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss.SSS'Z'"
change into
dateFormatter.dateFormat = "yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ"
There are at least 2 issues with your date format:
.SSS is used to read milliseconds but variable startTime doesn't contains milliseconds value;
Z represent GMT time zone and must not be escaped in dateFormat string.
Let's try to fix this ussues:
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ"];
NSDate *startTimeDate = [dateFormatter dateFromString:startTime];
I recommend to use this NSDateFormatter date formatting table. It's very comprehensive and helpful.
The startTime you've specified doesn't have any milliseconds, so you want to use a dateFormat of:
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ"];
If you want to support both styles of XML date strings then I recommend creating two NSDateFormatter instances for both date formats, and try the other if you get nil from the first.
Its simple one, converting NSString to NSDate we use NSDateformatter using dateFromString method. We need to provide the NSDateFormatter style with existing style for NSString
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ"];
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:#"2013-02-01T06:25:47Z"];
NSTimeZone *pdt = [NSTimeZone timeZoneWithAbbreviation:#"PDT"];
[dateFormatter setTimeZone:pdt];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"HH:mm:ss zzz"];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"K:mm a, z"];
NSString * updated String = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:date];
I searched the posts but didn't find something I could use...
What I try to do is: I want to save a date in CoreData (as an NSDate) but without the timezone identifier like +0000. The reason for that is, I use the date later as sorting path / title in a TableView and it just looks not so nice with the +0000 at the end.
I can not convert the date from CoreData as I use the "titleForHeader" function together with the NSFetchedResultsController, so I have no chance to convert that beforehand...
Or is it even possible to save the NSDate with a format like "dd-MM-yyyy / HH:mm" but still as NSDate() ?
I want do all this in Swift!
Thanks for any help...
NSDate doesn't contain any timezone information, you need to save the NSDate in Core Data then use an NSDateFormatter to format it for display.
It's no possible to save a NSDate without that. Only if your are going to save as an NSString and in that case you can use something like this:
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat: #"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"];
OR
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateStyle:NSDateFormatterShortStyle];
Then save the string as:
[dateFormatter stringFromDate:YOUR_NSDATE_VAR];
Cheers.
This is worked for me:
NSDate *date = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] objectForKey:#"MaxDate"];
NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[formatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss"];
NSString *stringFromDate = [formatter stringFromDate:date];
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
dateFormatter.dateFormat =#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ss";
NSDate *dateFromString = [[NSDate alloc] init];
dateFromString = [dateFormatter dateFromString:stringFromDate];
dateFormatter.dateFormat = #"yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss";
NSString *newDateString = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:dateFromString];
NSLog(#"%#", newDateString);
I have a NSString like #"2014-11-27T10:54:08.185Z"
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy'-'MM'-'dd'T'hh':'mm':'ss'.'SSS'Z'"];
NSDate * date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:self.creationTime];
I tried a lot of different formatter strings, but the date is always nil.
Or is there another problem here?
The hour in your date string format seems to be in the 24h format.
So you need to use HH instead of hh in your dateFormat.
More info
Try
NSDateFormatter *formatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc]init];
[formatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy'-'MM'-'dd'T'hh':'mm':'ss'.'SSS'Z'"];
NSDate *date = [NSDate dateWithTimeIntervalSince1970:self.creationTime];
self.dateLabel.text = [formatter stringFromDate:date];
NSDateFormatter *dateFormatter = [[NSDateFormatter alloc] init];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"yyyy-MM-dd'T'HH:mm:ssZ"];
NSDate *date = [dateFormatter dateFromString:#"2013-02-01T06:25:47Z"];
NSTimeZone *pdt = [NSTimeZone timeZoneWithAbbreviation:#"PDT"];
[dateFormatter setTimeZone:pdt];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"HH:mm:ss zzz"];
[dateFormatter setDateFormat:#"K:mm a, z"];
NSString * updated String = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:date];
Please try this...:)
