I have a rightView on UITextField with the mode UITextFieldViewModeUnlessEditing, so it should disappear when we are editing the textfield.
But now when I start editing the textfield programatically when you press the rightView (an edit button) the rightView does not disappear immediately. It only disappears when I start typing something.
So why does editing for a UITextField only start on typing and not on becoming first responder? How do I fix this?
Add the < UITextFieldDelegate > to your interface.
Then set the delegate or your textfield to self (either in IB or) for example in viewDidLoad:
self.theTextField.delegate = self;
Add this method to your .m :
-(void)textFieldDidBeginEditing:(UITextField *)textField{
// Whatever is supposed to happen when you begin to edit the textfield happens now
}

There is a requirement of inputAccessoryView is for the chat application.
When I add inputAccessoryView to UITextField on tap event of UIButton. That view is set as inputAccessoryView completely but text field is not becoming first responder.
(Note: Super view of textfield is viewText.)
- (IBAction)btnOpenTextField:(id)sender
{
UIView *accessoryView=[[UIView alloc]init];
accessoryView.frame=CGRectMake(0,0, _viewText.frame.size.width, _viewText.frame.size.height);
[accessoryView addSubview:_viewText];
_txtMessage.inputAccessoryView = accessoryView;
[_txtMessage becomeFirstResponder];
}
Thanks in Advance.
You can call [_textMessage reloadInputViews], replacing [_text becomeFirstResponder].
What you want to achieve is quite not possible, this will cause recursion, alternatively what you can do is put a textfield on bottom of the screen and when the textfield is selected you can animate it up with the flow of the keyboard. i think this is an appropriate solution if i got your question correctly.
I have one UItextfiled and in viewdidload i set his input view property as nil like this.
textField.inputView = nil
In in my view i have one button when i click on the button i have to set the textfield's inputview property as keyboard how can i do this.please help me.
I'm not exactly sure what you want to do, but probably you want your textField to became active, with a keyboard. That is done with
[textField becameFirstResponder];
and other way around is
[textField resignFirstResponder];

Understanding resignFirstResponder with UITextField

How do I remove a keyboard from the view as a result of the return key being touched when the UITextField was created programmatically.
If the UITextField was called in the viewDidLoad I know how to do this, but the UITextField was created as a result of an -(IBAction).
I created my UITextField programmatically. I know the resignFirstResponder removes the keyboard. I have it set up to do so when the screen is taped outsie the keyboard. I also have it working to where if the user triggers the IBAction with the UIButton related to the UITextField the keyboard goes away. I also want to be able to hide the keyboard when the user selects return from the keyboard.
You need to make yourself a UITextFieldDelegate and implement:
- (BOOL)textFieldShouldReturn:(UITextField *)textField {
[textField resignFirstResponder];
return YES;
}
Make sure you set the textField's delegate to self when you create it.
You can use this:
- (BOOL)textFieldShouldReturn:(UITextField *)textField {
[textField resignFirstResponder];
return NO;
}
You'll need to set your text field's delegate to self first, though:
self.textField.delegate = self;
Or, you could right-click-drag from the text field in IB to little orange circle at the bottom.
There is a textField and a button in my view, and if the
textfield is empty I do not want to user can click the button.
When user text something in the textfield, the button will bu
clickable.
How can I do this? Thank you.
for your UITextField, you can set:
[textField addTarget:self action:#selector(editing:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventAllEditingEvents];
Then in your editing: have:
-(void)editing:(UITextField *)sender {
myButton.enabled = ![sender.text isEqualToString:#""];
}
Listen for changes to the text field. As the text changes, update the button's enabled property based on whether there is text or not. Of course you also need to set the button's state at the beginning as well.
// Setup the text field change listener (this can be done in IB if appropriate)
// Put this in viewDidLoad if not using IB.
UITextField *myTextField = ... // a reference to the text field
[myTextField addTarget:self action:#selector(textFieldChangedAction:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventEditingChanged];
// Initialize the button's state (put this in viewDidLoad)
myButton.enabled = myTextField.text.length > 0;
// The method called as the text changes in the text field
- (void)textFieldChangedAction:(UITextField *)sender {
myButton.enabled = sender.text.length > 0;
}
If you want, you can "hide" the button by setting the alpha value of the button to 0 and when the textfield is at least one character long, then set the button's alpha value to 1 to "show" the button. I think this conceptually is easy to do and very presentable to the user.
Set the textfield.delegate to self
Then in delegate that is textfielddidbeginediting
(
Check is textfield is #""
Then disable the button
Else
Enable the button
)
And there is one more. Delegate u can use
Textdidchangecharacters
And in viewdidload first state of the button should be disabled
How can I bring up the iphone keyboard by clicking a button - I haven't created any text fields. My intention is to have labels that hold a single character.
Other people have asked this and it has been answered but it was from years ago and I didn't understand what people meant in there responses.
Thank you for any help in advance.
Only way you could do this is via hidden UITextField, and set that textField to becomeFirstResponder
you could hide the text field in your code liket his textfield.hidden=YES;
or you could hide the textfield from nib file also by going into the attribute inspector and tick the Hidden property
You could have a look at this UIKeyInput- Displaying keyboard in iPhone without UITextField or UITextView, I have not tried myself this
Attach the button to a touchUpInside event and call becomeFirstResponder on the textView or textfield:
Here is an example (to bring it up when a text view is clicked):
-(IBAction)buttonClicked:(id)sender{
[textView becomeFirstResponder];
}
-(void)ButtonClicked
{
[textFld becomeFirstResponder];
[textView becomeFirstResponder];
}
use this method
You can add a hidden UITextFeild as tempTF and when the button clicked. call becomeFirstResponder of this textFeild:
[self.tempTF becomeFirstResponder];
To Hide textField:
UITextField *tempTF = [[UITextField alloc] init];
tempTF.hidden = YES
or mark Hidden ir your Interface Builder
