i have problems, that i cant make a text layer.
I tried pango (-draw text), label and it always make a image layer.
Also i tried to attach *.tif file with text layers, but it make image layer from it.
my code is :
convert ( -page +10+10 -label "label1" -pointsize 30 -font Arial -draw "text 25,60 'Magick'" -channel RGBA -fill red ) ( -page +0+0 -label "label1" 1.jpg -background none -mosaic -set colorspace RGB ) ( -page +0+0 -label "label2" 2.jpg -background none -mosaic -set colorspace RGB ) ( -page +0+0 -label "label3" 3.gif -background none -mosaic -set colorspace RGB ) ( -clone 0-5 -background none -flatten ) -alpha On -reverse -extent 750x750 -insert 0 "out.psd"

I have a simple bash script to caption still images (jpg, png...) but it completely fails when given an animated gif. The error is convert: unable to write pixel cache '/tmp/magick-[random chars]': No space left on device # error/cache.c/WritePixelCachePixels/5854. There are many questions similar to mine, however they use specific coordinates to determine where the text should be placed (at least, I think). My script creates a dynamically sized caption area for the text to be written to. The image is appended to the bottom of the caption area (or the caption area is prepended to the top of the image, however you want to think about it.)
#!/bin/bash
input=$1
caption=$2
output=$3
wd=`convert $input -format "%w" info:`
convert \( -size ${wd}x -background white -gravity north -fill black -font FuturaBT-ExtraBlackCondensed -pointsize $(($wd/17)) \
caption:"$caption" \) \
$input \
-append $output
You can also do this in Imagemagick.
convert anim.gif -coalesce \
-gravity north -background white \
-splice 0x18 -font Arial -pointsize 12 -annotate +0+0 'THIS IS A TEST OF CAPTIONING TEXT' \
-layers Optimize anim3.gif
In Imagemagick you will need to create a text image from your caption and then use -layers composite to apply it to your animation.
Input GIF Animation:
Imagemagick 6 Unix Syntax:
convert \( anim.gif -coalesce \) null: \( -size 100x -background white -gravity north -fill black caption:"THIS IS A TEST OF CAPTIONING TEXT ON AN ANIMATION" \) -compose over -layers composite -layers optimize anim2.gif
For Windows, remove the \s
For Imagemagick 7, change convert to magick.
I have 100+ png files all 500x500, I'm trying to crop a circle in the centre of the image 400x400 and save it into a separate png, keeping the 500x500. example below
Does anyone know how to use image magick to achieve this and run through each file in the folder? - thanks
Source
Desired output
Make a 500x500 image with a 400px opaque circle in it (mask.png) (this is of course going to be same image for all your input):
Then from a source:
convert source.png mask.png -compose copy-opacity -composite result.png
yields:
You can find answers in How can I combine these commands to achieve circular crop in ImageMagick?
magick convert input.jpg -gravity center ( -size 480x480 xc:black -fill white -draw "circle 240 240 240 0" -alpha copy ) -compose copyopacity -composite output.png
magick input.jpg ( +clone -threshold 101% -fill white -draw "circle %[fx:int(w/2)],%[fx:int(h/2)] %[fx:int(w/2)],%[fx:int(h)]" ) -channel-fx "| gray=>alpha" output.png
magick input.jpg ( +clone -threshold 101% -fill white -draw "roundRectangle 0,0 %[fx:int(w)],%[fx:int(h)] 50,50" ) -channel-fx "| gray=>alpha" output.png
magick input.jpg ( +clone -threshold 101% -fill white -draw "roundRectangle %[fx:int((w-h)/2)],0 %[fx:int((h+w)/2)],%[fx:int(h)] 50,50" ) -channel-fx "| gray=>alpha" -trim output.png
You can process every (png) image in a folder using mogrify. Assuming Imagemagick 6. Just change directories to the folder and add the path to your mask.png image, which should not be in that directory.
mogrify -alpha set -draw "image copy_opacity 0,0 0,0 'mask.png'" *.png
Simplified example:
I do create a cirlce like following:
magick convert -size 256x256 xc:none -fill #FFFFFF -draw "circle 128,128 256,128" +profile "icc" out.png
And I do convert a given image like following:
magick convert in.png -background none -gravity center -resize 181x181 +profile "icc" out.png
Question:
In my examples above I do have following "core" functions:
-size 256x256 xc:none -fill #FFFFFF -draw "circle 128,128 256,128" +profile "icc"
in.png -background none -gravity center -extent 181x181 +profile "icc"
How can I combine those images WITHOUT saving the first one to a temporary file? I want to create a 256x256 output image, draw the circle to this image and then draw the converted input image on top of the circle (centered).
My current solution
Create 2 different images and combine them like following:
magick convert -composite -gravity Center out1.png out2.png out.png
EDIT - FULL EXAMPLE
PS Script looks like following:
$in = ".\in.png"
$out1 = ".\tmp1.png"
$out2 = ".\tmp2.png"
$out = ".\out.png"
// 1) create circle image
magick convert -size 256x256 xc:none -fill #FFFFFF -draw "circle 128,128 256,128" +profile "icc" PNG32:$out1
// 2) convert input image
magick convert $in -background none -gravity center -resize 181x181 +profile "icc" -colorspace Gray -fill "#E91FCB" -colorize 50 PNG32:$out2
// 3) combine circle + converted image
magick convert -composite -gravity Center $out1 $out2 PNG32:$out
// 4) delete temp. images
Remove-Item $out1
Remove-Item $out2
Input Image:
Output Image (not visible, but it has the white circle as background + a transparent background otherwise):
You can use parenthesised processing like this:
magick -size 256x256 xc:none -fill white -draw "circle 128,128 256,128" \( in.png -background none -gravity center -resize 181x181 -colorspace Gray -fill "#E91FCB" -colorize 50 \) -composite result.png
On Windows, omit the \ before parentheses.
I want to create a flare image using imagemagick and then add text on top of it. I was thinking that it was going to be quite easy, but I am having issues adding the text on top of the generated image.
This is so far what I have (keep in mind that the text as well as the dimension are dynamic):
FLARE:
\(
-fill transparent -size 300x1 xc: +noise Random -channel G -separate +channel \
-scale 300x300\! \
\( -size 300x300 gradient: -evaluate cos .5 \) \
-compose hardlight -composite \
-virtual-pixel HorizontalTileEdge -distort Polar -1
\)
TEXT
-fill red \
-gravity center \
-font Arial \
annotate:"Logo 12345678"
EDIT:
The text is showing, but I can't figure out how to overimpress the text on top of the image in a way that it will fill the image for the full width (from left to right, with some padding if possible)
Figured out:
convert \
\( -background transparent -size 300x1 xc: +noise Random -channel G -separate +channel -scale 300x300\! \( -size 300x300 gradient: -evaluate cos .5 \) -compose hardlight -composite -virtual-pixel HorizontalTileEdge -distort Polar -1 \) \
\( -background transparent -size 300x300 -fill blue -gravity center -font Arial caption:"Logo \\n13474899" \) \
-gravity center -composite /tmp/flare_2_final.png
Now I need to figure out how to change the background color of the flare from black to gray and I am done.
The border shadow effects used in the images of this blog post seem to be embeded in the images themselves (not css3). How can it be created in imagemagick?
Edit 1:
The solution which I found quite accidentlly is posted below as an answer.
Somehow I found the command which does what I wanted exactly:
For images which are already scaled and compressed:
convert input.jpeg -bordercolor white -border 13 \( +clone -background black -shadow 80x3+2+2 \) +swap -background white -layers merge +repage output.jpg
For creating thumbnails:
convert input.jpeg -thumbnail 200x200 -bordercolor white -border 6 \( +clone -background black -shadow 80x3+2+2 \) +swap -background white -layers merge +repage output.jpg
For raw images:
convert input.jpeg -scale 600x400 -quality 86 -strip -bordercolor white -border 13 \( +clone -background black -shadow 80x3+2+2 \) +swap -background white -layers merge +repage output.jpg
There is a -shadow argument on convert that has options to do this.

Shutter uses the following command https://github.com/shutter-project/shutter/blob/master/share/shutter/resources/system/plugins/perl/spshadow/spshadow#L375
convert in.png -gravity 'northwest' -background 'rgba(255,255,255,0)' -splice '10x10' \( +clone -background '#005f005f005f0000' -shadow "80x3-1-1" \) +swap -background none -mosaic +repage \( +clone -background '#005f005f005f0000' -shadow "80x3+5+5" \) +swap -background none -mosaic +repage out.png
