Highcharts: how to create a simple one-axe timeline with events - highcharts

I am looking for the most simple chart, and not finding it in native Highcharts.
How can I use another chart type to simulate a simple time arrow with dates and events as labels smartly disposed so that they wouldn't collide?
An example

highcharts tooltip stop update when mouse over

In a highcharts line chart, I want to present a link in the tooltip for people to explore the underlying data set for a specific point by clicking on it (done, I used useHTML). The chart itself is an aggregated view showing statistics for some values (y) for different categories (series) across time scale (x), hence the motivation for exploring the non-aggregated data.
However, when the chart becomes dense enough, the user cannot mouseover the tooltip to click the link because it updates with the adjacent data points from the next point/s. Thus, I want to stop the tooltip from updating when the mouse is directly on top of it. How am I able to do this?
You can play around with tooltip.positioner - to make sure user will be able to click that tooltip URL. Or just change logic, so user can click on column instead, just like demo here.

Google charts: is it possible to display tooltips when hovering areas in stacked area chart?

I have a stacked area chart using google charts. An example is here: https://code.google.com/apis/ajax/playground/?type=visualization#area_chart
The problem is, when I hover the cursor over an area, no tooltip is displayed. I need to hover the boundary of two neighboring areas to display the tooltip.
Is it possible to display tooltips when hovering areas? If not, do you know of some workaround?
You can use a SteppedAreaChart for this. Set isStacked to true, and by default the tooltips will be shown on hovering over an area.
No, you can't spawn the tooltips by hovering over the area. There is no way easy way to work around this, as the Visualization API does not trigger mouse events on the areas.
If you want to put the effort into this, you can create custom mouse event handlers on the chart's SVG/VML code. It might be possible to extrapolate which area the mouse is in, and given that, you can extrapolate the x-axis position from the mouse coordinates using the ChartLayoutInterface, and spawn a custom tooltip based on that information. Be aware that any solution involving the chart's SVG/VML code could break at any time, as the internal structure of the charts is not guaranteed to be stable from version to version.

timeline chart with events

For a rails web application I need a timeline with on the top (stacked) bar charts and on the bottom single events that should be recognizably different using e.g. forms (squares, rhombus, circles) and colors.
It's also important that I get some kind of picture back in order to reuse it to build a pdf.
At the moment I do the bar chart part with google charts, but I can't find a way to do the events. Those could also be on a separate chart that I then align in html or the pdf.
have you ever try the highcharts.
Here is an example of time series with events made with amCharts: http://www.amcharts.com/stock-chart/stock-events/
You can have any number of graphs stacked on each other, if this is what you want to do.

high charts with master-detail and handles

I'm using highcharts to build a chart and I need to use the api that it exposes to do certain things. however I would like my chart to be a master-detail type chart like the one in the highstock library but which has the handles on them.
I know i can create a master-detail in highcharts but it does not seem have the handles for dragging the selected range.
In the end I used highstock and found an example with multiple series in the 'master' chart which is called 'navigator' the highstock charts.

Changing the contents of Highcharts legend

When using Highcharts, is it possible to change the contents of the legend to display something other than the series?
For example, I have a scatter chart with just one series but with many elements, so that the element labels obstruct one another and are illegible:
Would it be possible to use the legend to display the element names instead of the series? (each member in the series has a different color so that it is possible to use the legend in this case)
EDIT:
It turns out there isn't any good way to do this, so I wrote my own custom legend. You can find the code here: http://pastie.org/5115536
I hope you find it useful
Highcharts allows to show data points instead of series name in the in the legend. But, Unfortunately its only for Pie charts type:pie.
There is a default option available for the Pie Chart though undocumented in the API.
legendType: 'point',
If you try to set it for other type of chart, Legend does not gets rendered.
