TabBarController as main view and home page not as a tab - ios

I have UITabBarController based app. To simplify, let's assume I have one Tab Bar Item pointing to Navigation Controller that holds Table View Controller.
In addition I have a separate Scroll View Controller.
What I'm trying to solve is how can I have Scroll View Controller loaded after app launch and Tab Bar visible at one time. It means that Scroll View shouldn't be one of the tabs.
I'm puzzled how to achieve it. Appreciated for any help.

Navigation bar breaks in Tableview / detail view inside Tab bar controller

This is a bit of a tricky one to explain here so I'm hoping the screenshot of the storyboard of the app I'm trying to build helps to clarify what I'm trying to do.
Basically the apps starts with a nav controller and table view, when you click on a cell in the table view you go to a tab bar controller with three tabs, each tab view has its own navigation controller and subsequently there is a navigation bar on each of them, so at this point there is a back button on all tab views which takes us back to the initial table view.
The first tab view simply has some text, the next has a table view with several table cells and the last has a map view with several markers. Both the table cell and the map markers link to a detail view via a navigation controller which shows more detailed information (both via named segues). It's at this point of clicking through to the detail view where the navigation is breaking, the detail page shows no navigation bar although it is there as the title text is set, but there is no back button and it seems that the navigation context / hierarchy has been broken here somehow. The appearance of the storyboard also reflects this as it shows no Back button on the navbar on the navigation controller or the Detail view.
Without initially getting into the code in any real way I am just trying to see if there is any significant reason why these type of structure / hierarchy is just now going to work. So, my main question is does this storyboard structure seem like the correct way to go about what I'm trying to do?
Here is the storyboard:

What type of view controller is used for this app?

Does anybody know what kind of view controller this app uses? I am trying to implement one somewhat like this but can not get the tab bar to appear at the bottom when I use the table view controller. I also can not get the title of the view to appear at the top where it says home.
I would say this is a tab bar controller. The home tab you show may just have a navigation bar placed on top of it as a sub view or it is embedded into a navigation controller.
My image shows a tab bar controller as the root controller and initial controller and the view from the first tab embedded in a navigation controller.
Hope this helps!
The screen you are looking at is a combination of a UItabBarController a UINavigationController and a UITableViewController.

iOS: TabController not showing with Navigation Controller

I have an app with the start screen consisting of a table menu main which links to 4 different views, then three options to information pages.
Once on any of the main menu options are chosen, the view is shown with TabBar at the bottom of the main menu options. While the nav bar at the top has a back button leading to the main menu.
I built the storyboard which goes from a table view select to a single page. After that was working and passing data, I embedded the single view into a Tab Bar Controller and added a second page. It seems to be working as I would expect however the Tab Bar is not visible on the screen.
Can please anyone help?
I have added an image of the storyboard below:
Get rid of the navigation controller. There is no deed for it so far. Make the tab bar controller your root view.
If you need a navigation conroller within a certrain tab, or some or all of them, then add navigation controllers to those tabs (to the right in your storyboard).

Issue with tab and navigation view controller

I have an iOS app which is structured in this way:
One tab bar controller with 4 navigation controllers. Each navigation controller has its own view controller with a xib file.
The issue, is that ONLY THE FIRST TIME, when I push a new view into one of the navigation controllers, the new view doesn't appear at all. When I switch to another nav controller (touching one of tab bar's options) and then switch back to the first one, it works all the time.
The error I'm getting is when I come back is:
[35731:70b] Unbalanced calls to begin/end appearance transitions for
.
Thanks for helping out.
Make sure you are presenting all your view controllers from the parent / top level view controller (the tab bar controller). I've had this a few times when presenting a view controller from one of the view controllers in the tab bar.
In viewdidload assign your first view controller to load when xib loads. Its the correct way to load first view controller to appear when nib loads.

Hidden UINavigationController inside UITabBarController

I have an application with 5 UIViewControllers each inside a corresponding UINavigationController, all tucked inside a UITabBarController that displays 5 tabs at the bottom of the screen.
I want to display another UIViewController (inside a UINavigationController) when a dialog button is pressed.
This view should only be loaded and unloaded programatically; i.e. it should not appear in the tab bar. However, I want the tab bar to be visible always.
If I add the [UINavigationController view] to [self window] the UITabBar is covered. If I add it to any other layer, the UINavigationController adds on the compensation it has for the status bar so appears further down than expected.
A solution would be to have the 6th UINavigationController added to the UITabBar with the others, but with its tabBarItem hidden. Then I can show it and hide it using the tabBars selectedIndex property.
Accessing the tabBarItem through the UIViewController shows no obvious way of doing this.
#wisequark, I think you completely misunderstood and you have almost rewritten the architecture of my application. However I have a separate navigation controller for each view as they are mutually exclusive and there is no concept of "drilling down".
#Kendall, This is what I expect I will have to do - have the modal view appear with a hide button to bring back the normal interface. But it would be nice to keep the tab bar always visible, so I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way.
It sounds as though you have a mess on your hands. A UINavigationController is a distinct object that is very different from a UITabBarController. In general, your application should have a tab controller, one of who's tab's loads a UINavigationController which in turn loads it's views - not that both maintain management over the different views. It is also improper to refer to the display of a UIViewController as such an object doesn't have a visual representation. In the case of a UINavigationController, the navigation controller object is responsible for displaying a navigation bar and a table view (in the most common case) and for managing the display of all the views in the navigation hierarchy. It itself has no corresponding representation on screen. Similarly, a UITabBarController presents a tab bar and is responsible for the loading and unloading of the views and/or view controllers attached to the tab buttons. If we were to present this as an image, it would look something like this -

Well, it sounds like what you really want to do is present a modal view with the tab bar still visible. You could add your view as a subview of the tab bar controller's view. The tab bar's view is, oddly enough, not the tab bar itself but rather a view containing the tab bar and the selected item's view.
Alternatively, you could try calling presentModalViewController:animated: with the selected tab (i.e. [tabBarController.selectedViewController presentModalViewController:animated:]) as the receiver instead of the tab bar. I seem to recall doing this once (quite by accident) and the tab bar remained visible.
One more thought: since each of your five view controllers is a UINavigationController, you could always pushViewController:animated: onto the selected view controller, then hide the back button. Your view will just appear without animation. But you'll need to remember to pop your view controller off the stack whenever the user switches to another tab. That might take a bit more work.
The best idea I could think of would be to either push a modal navigation controller for your view (which would hide the tab bar which you do not want), or to get the tab bar controller current selected view controller (really your navigation controller for a tab) and push your new view controller on there - and then pop that view when another tab is selected with a tab bar delegate.
It seems wierd to me to push the view onto random tabs though, if the view is created from a dialog that is modal, I don't see why the view itself should not also be modal and hide tabs.
