Popping not sufficient to remove a view controller - ios

I am experiencing an issue and I believe it's due to me incorrectly removing my view. I will try to explain and hope all can follow.
I have a UISplitview app which essentially has two views. The main detail view, and a view which is essentially a map. Upon selecting a certain string in the table this code is called (this code is in the detailview but the rainObject is passed in from a UIViewController.
-(void)setReceivedRainObject:(id)receivedRainObject{
if ([receivedRainObject isEqualToString:#"Test"]){
mapViewController *mapView=[[mapViewController alloc]initWithNibName:#"mapViewController" bundle:nil location:0];
[self.navigationItem setHidesBackButton:NO animated:NO];
[self.navigationController setNavigationBarHidden:NO animated:YES];
[self.navigationController pushViewController:mapView animated:NO];
}
}
So the above code loads my map fine in the detailscreen as expected.
However, when I click the first option (test) from the left view controller, it calls a new view controller (viewcontroller2 with a row named test2) and that second controller calls a third( viewcontroller3 with a row named test3)
On the viewDidDisappear of viewcontoller3 and in the viewWillAppear of test I have this code
[self.detailViewController.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:NO];
So when I drill down to viewcontroller, when I click the backbutton, it pops off one map, and when testview loads it pops the second. leaving my detail view showing exactly how I started.
However, I've noticed that if I clicked the "test" button twice, and try to go back, there is an "extra screen" that was supposed to be remove with pop. Would like to know how to remove this mass of views or to stop the program from adding so many.
Thanks

Just use
mapViewController *mapView=[[mapViewController alloc]initWithNibName:#"mapViewController" bundle:nil location:0];
[self.navigationController pushViewController:mapView animated:YES];
to navigate through the view controllers.

popViewController not working with storyboards

I create a UINavigationController (as a initial screen) and connect them with my UITableViewController (as a root).
Next, I create another UINavigationController and connect with my UIViewController. Inside my UITableViewController I connect my first cell with UINavigationController (That was connected with my UIViewController) (Segue -> show).
When I run the project my table appears, when I select my first row, my UIViewController appears. Thats great!
When I was in my UIViewController the back bar button doesn't appears, in my case I create a left bar button, that will run a function to dismiss that view and go back to my UITableViewController, for that I use many codes:
-(void)back{
NSLog(#"Called");
[self.parentViewController.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES];
}
-(void)back{
NSLog(#"Called");
[self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES];
}
-(void)back{
NSLog(#"Called");
[self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES];
}
But all of they doesn't works and my view don't dismiss, how can I solve this problem?
The problem is that your navigation controller, that you call from your table view cell, has only a single view controller (yours) on its navigation stack. So it cannot pop anything from this stack, else the stack were empty.
What you have to do instead is to dismiss the navigation controller itself.
I think that the solution would be to remove the second navigation controller. Since the TableView is already embedded inside a Navigation Controller, the show segue to the UIViewController must be directly connected to it.

UITabBar View not opening - selected index

I have a login screen after which home screen is shown. In home screen ,there are four buttons a,b,c,d. On pressing each button, say view a,b,c,d should appear related to view controller a,b,c,d. All these views are embedded in a UITabBar controller. The problem now is when I use the code
[self.tabBarController setSelectedIndex:2];
nothing happens and no view appears. How do i open the view using selected index method or any other method?
Thank You
Found the answer finally. Instead of
[self.tabBarController setSelectedIndex:2];
Use
UITabBarController *controller = [self.storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:#"IdentifierFromStoryboard"];
[self.navigationController pushViewController:controller animated:NO];
[controller setSelectedIndex:2];
This would work fine.

UIViewController Not able to redirect

Here is my problem. I had a UITableViewcontroller to which UINavigation controller is Embedded. To UITableviewController I had Add screen and an edit screen. Add screen is working perfectly. When I click on the records on the table view cell it is able to redirect to the edit page (detailed view). When I hit on Submit button the page is not navigating to the tableview cell. Here is the below error.
Warning: Attempt to present on whose view is not in the window hierarchy!
Here is the code I was trying for navigation.
UINavigationController *questionnaireNavController = [self.storyboard instantiateViewControllerWithIdentifier:#"DLProjectsTasksubtasks"];
[questionnaireNavController setModalTransitionStyle:UIModalTransitionStyleCrossDissolve];
DLProjectsTasksubtasks *qvc = (DLProjectsTasksubtasks *)[questionnaireNavController topViewController];
[qvc.tableView reloadData];
[self presentViewController:questionnaireNavController animated:YES completion:nil];
[self dismissViewControllerAnimated:YES completion:nil];
Between I was using a Segue for transfering the data from tableview data to Edit Screen
I think your segue is being pushed on the navigation controller rather than being presented modally. So you have two options, either change the segue in your storyboard to be modal and use the dismissViewControllerAnimated:YES completion: or keep it the way it is and use popViewControllerAnimated: on your navigation controller.
[self.navigationController popViewControllerAnimated:YES];
For passing the data to the previous page you can either pass a reference of the previous view controller OR accessing it through your navigationController.viewControllers. Index n-2 will be your previous view controller (n is the count of viewControllers).

start 1 view controller 2 buttons that lead to 2 different view controllers

I have the first ViewController that has 2 buttons on it. One to go to ViewController1 when clicked and the other to go to ViewController2 when clicked. When i click the first button it takes me to ViewController1 but when i click the second button it goes to a black screen and gives the warning:
Warning: Attempt to present on while a presentation is in progress!
What am I doing wrong?
Here is my code:
-(IBAction)goToYourClosetViewController: (id)sender{
YourClosetViewController *closet = [[YourClosetViewController alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil];
[self presentViewController:closet animated:YES completion:NULL];
}
-(IBAction)goToPlanOutfitViewController: (id)sender{
PlanOutfitViewController *planOutfit = [[PlanOutfitViewController alloc] initWithNibName:nil bundle:nil];
[self presentViewController:planOutfit animated:YES completion:NULL];
}
Are you pressing the first button and then the second button in rapid succession by any chance?
If that's it then you need to disable your buttons while the modal presentation is in progress, and re-enable them in your completion blocks.
If not, then how are you displaying the first view controller? (The one that contains these 2 buttons)
You are probably trying open the second view controller before you close the first view controller. That's the kind of error message in such cases.
When you go back to your initial view controller from either first or second view controller, do this:
[FirstViewControllerInstance dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES];

Switching between view controllers

I have three view controllers. I used the flipsideproject template and then added another view controller.
There is a button on the first view controller that goes to the second view controller. There is a button on the second view controller that goes back to the first one. When switching between the first and second, those buttons always work.
It is the same situation with the second and third view controller. When I try to transfer between the first to second to third and then back to first, it does not work.
(1-->2-->3-->2-/->1) My poorly drawn diagram depicts the situation.
I had all of the back buttons connected to the back IBAction, which I thought was the problem. I then made another IBAction, but it has not fixed the problem.
1st view controller = MainViewController
2nd VC = FlipSideViewController
3rd VC = ChooseAlarmSound
This is for going 2->1 (this is the problem I think. It sometimes works)
- (IBAction)done:(id)sender
{
[self.delegate flipsideViewControllerDidFinish:self];
}
This is for going 2->3
- (IBAction)chooseSound:(id)sender
{
ChooseAlarmSound *controller = [[[ChooseAlarmSound alloc] initWithNibName:#"ChooseAlarmSound" bundle:nil] autorelease];
controller.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleCoverVertical;
[self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES];
}
This is for going 3->2
- (IBAction)goBack:(id)sender
{
FlipsideViewController *controller = [[[FlipsideViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"FlipsideViewController" bundle:nil] autorelease];
controller.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleCoverVertical;
[self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES];
}
You presented your 3rd VC (going from 2 to 3) using modalviewcontroller. But then you tried to go back to 2nd VC (from 3rd to 2nd) using another modalVC. That will not let you go back to the previous instance of 2nd VC. You need to use dismissmodalviewcontrolleranimated method to do this. Checkout Apple website on modalviewcontroller class reference for detail info on this.
As suggested by user523234, all you need to do is call
[self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]
in the
- (IBAction)goBack:(id)sender
method of the 3rd view controller, instead of what you're doing, which is creating another instance of the 2nd view controller and presenting it.
The reason it's not working now, is because when you press the done button in the 2nd view controller it calls
- (IBAction)done:(id)sender
{
[self.delegate flipsideViewControllerDidFinish:self];
}
which is sending a message the 2nd view controller's delegate, which you haven't set in the case where you're going from 3->2.
