I need to set the position for my Modal popup. Its working fine lesser than IOS 7 only problem with IOS 7. I could not able to set coordinate of the Modal Popup. Its not taking the any values.
MyModalViewController *targetController = [[[MyModalViewController alloc] init] autorelease];
targetController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationPageSheet;
targetController.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal;
[self presentModalViewController:targetController animated:YES];
targetController.view.superview.frame = CGRectMake(40, 80, 944, 650);

In my app the popup is shown in the center of the screen. In ipad 10th generation it fails and shows in the left side of the screen.
Code:
popover = [[UIPopoverController alloc] initWithContentViewController:tsv];
popover.delegate = self;
if ([popover respondsToSelector:#selector(setBackgroundColor:)])
popover.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
[topics release];
}
self.titleHeaderImage.highlighted = YES;
[popover presentPopoverFromRect:self.titleView.frame inView:self.navigationController.view permittedArrowDirections:UIPopoverArrowDirectionL animated:YES];
I am struggling to understand why the following views, one for CABTMIDILocalPeripheralViewController and the other for CABTMIDICentralViewController show different behaviour in my iOS app (written in Objective-C)
- (IBAction)configureCentral:(id)sender
{
CABTMIDICentralViewController *viewController = [CABTMIDICentralViewController new];
UINavigationController *navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:viewController]; // this will present a view controller as a popover in iPad and modal VC on iPhone
viewController.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemDone
target:self
action:#selector(doneAction:)];
navController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationPopover;
UIPopoverPresentationController *popC = navController.popoverPresentationController;
popC.permittedArrowDirections = UIPopoverArrowDirectionAny;
popC.sourceRect = [sender frame];
viewController.preferredContentSize = CGSizeMake(320., 400.);
popC.backgroundColor = [UIColor darkGrayColor];
viewController.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor darkGrayColor];
UIButton *button = (UIButton *)sender;
popC.sourceView = button.superview;
[self presentViewController:navController animated:NO completion:nil];
}
Opens a popup view on an iOS device, which does not show any 'done' button to dismiss the view.
CABTMIDICentralViewController shows no button to close/dismiss the view
While on an iPad tapping outside the view will close it, on an iPhone the view takes the size of the screen and exiting/closing becomes impossible.
The same code used for the CABTMIDILocalPeripheralViewController works as expected.
- (IBAction)configureLocalPeripheral:(id)sender
{
CABTMIDILocalPeripheralViewController *vController = [[CABTMIDILocalPeripheralViewController alloc] init];
UINavigationController *navController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:vController];
vController.navigationItem.rightBarButtonItem = [[UIBarButtonItem alloc] initWithBarButtonSystemItem:UIBarButtonSystemItemDone
target:self
action:#selector(doneWithPeripheral:)];
navController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationPopover;
UIPopoverPresentationController *popC = navController.popoverPresentationController;
popC.permittedArrowDirections = UIPopoverArrowDirectionAny;
popC.sourceRect = [sender frame];
vController.preferredContentSize = CGSizeMake(320., 400.);
popC.backgroundColor = [UIColor grayColor];
vController.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor darkGrayColor];
UIButton *button = (UIButton *)sender;
popC.sourceView = button.superview;
[self presentViewController:navController animated:NO completion:nil];
}
CABTMIDILocalPeripheralViewController has a 'done' button
What is going wrong here? I have tested to make the views wider to see whether available space in the Navigation bar would have caused this.
Thanks.
I want present a UINavigationController like the image above, I use
nvc.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet;
But I can't change the controller's size.
This is how I did:
UIViewController *vc = [[UIViewController alloc] init];
vc.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor grayColor];
UINavigationController *nvc = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:vc];
nvc.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet;
nvc.view.frame = CGRectInset(self.view.bounds, 20, 20);
[self presentViewController:nvc animated:YES completion:nil];
But the present viewController is still full screen.
May be you can use preferredContentSize as follows:
nvc.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet;
nvc.preferredContentSize = CGSizeMake(width, height);
Like,
nvc.preferredContentSize = CGSizeMake(300, 600);
OR
In Presented viewController's viewDidLoad method write below code:
self.preferredContentSize = CGSizeMake(width, height);
Edit:
Select your viewController or xib and set size property to Freeform.
Enable user preferred explicit size in Content size in attributes inspector.

Using UIPopovercontroller below ios8.0 in iphone working fine with this code. But in ios8 it display white screen.
Code :
pickerController = [[UIViewController alloc] init];
UIView *viewV = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 150, 160)];
[viewV setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]];
popOverController = [[UIPopoverController alloc] initWithContentViewController:pickerController];
popOverController.popoverContentSize = CGSizeMake(150, 160);
[popOverController setDelegate:self];
CGRect ImageBtnFrame = [self.view convertRect:sender.frame fromView:self.view];
[popOverController presentPopoverFromRect:ImageBtnFrame inView:self.view permittedArrowDirections:UIPopoverArrowDirectionUp animated:YES];
Any alternative for ios8, need suggestion.
According to 2014 WWDC, in the 30 minute mark, the right answer is:
- (void) tapButton:(id) sender
{
MyViewControllerClass * vc = [[MyViewControllerClass alloc] init];
vc.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationPopover;
UIPopoverPresentationController * popOverController = vc.popoverPresentationController;
[popOverController setDelegate:self];
popOverController.sourceView = sender;
popOverController.sourceRect = ((UIButton*)sender).frame;
popOverController.permittedArrowDirections = UIPopoverArrowDirectionUp;
[self presentViewController:vc
animated:YES
completion:nil];
}
Notice that the accepted answer has some problems like:
Not setting the modalPresentationStyle
Presenting the UIPopoverPresentationController * instead of the UIViewController
Try to use the new iOS 8 API for popovers.
pickerController = [[UIViewController alloc] init];
UIView *viewV = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 150, 160)];
[viewV setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]];
UIPopoverPresentationController *popOverController = pickerController .popoverPresentationController;
popOverController.popoverContentSize = CGSizeMake(150, 160);
[popOverController setDelegate:self];
popOverController.sourceView = self.view;
popOverController.sourceRect = sender.frame;
popOverController.permittedArrowDirections = UIPopoverArrowDirectionUp;
[self presentViewController:popOverController
animated:YES
completion:nil];
That will cause on iOS 8. So, I recommended to use following Github library.
https://github.com/skywinder/ActionSheetPicker-3.0 or you can write code base on iOS version.
if (OLDER_THAN_IOS_8) {
// Your regular code
pickerController = [[UIViewController alloc] init];
UIView *viewV = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 150, 160)];
[viewV setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]];
popOverController = [[UIPopoverController alloc] initWithContentViewController:pickerController];
popOverController.popoverContentSize = CGSizeMake(150, 160);
[popOverController setDelegate:self];
CGRect ImageBtnFrame = [self.view convertRect:sender.frame fromView:self.view];
[popOverController presentPopoverFromRect:ImageBtnFrame inView:self.view permittedArrowDirections:UIPopoverArrowDirectionUp animated:YES];
} else {
// New Code that support iOS -8 using UIPopoverPresentationController
// Checkout #AndreasZ answer for the same
}
I have a button I have created programmatically within a view controller. Once the button is pressed I want it to to use a method to create the popover programmatically.
The button which is created in the ViewDidLoad in my view controller.m
UIView *moreFundInfoView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 540, 620)];
[self.view addSubview:moreFundInfoView];
[moreFundInfoView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor RMBColor:#"b"]];
btnContact = [UIButton buttonWithType:(UIButtonTypeRoundedRect)];
[btnContact setFrame:CGRectMake(390, 575, contactButton.width, contactButton.height)];
btnContact.hidden = NO;
[btnContact setTitle:#"Contact" forState:(UIControlStateNormal)];
[moreFundInfoView addSubview:btnContact];
[btnContact addTarget:self action:#selector(showContactDetails:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
Then I have the method I use when the button is pressed.
-(void) showContactDetails: (id) sender
{
UIViewController *popoverContent = [[UIViewController alloc]init];
UIView *popoverView = [[UIView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 200, 300)];
[popoverView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor RMBColor:#"b"]];
popoverContent.view = popoverView;
popoverContent.contentSizeForViewInPopover = CGSizeMake(200, 300);
UIPopoverController *contactPopover =[[UIPopoverController alloc] initWithContentViewController:popoverContent];
[contactPopover presentPopoverFromRect:btnContact.frame inView:self.view permittedArrowDirections:UIPopoverArrowDirectionUp animated:YES ];
[contactPopover setDelegate:self];
}
What am I missing here? Cause it runs fine, but as soon as I click the button the app crashes. I think it is a delegate issue, but I am not sure. Any advice would be appreciated.
I think this code will help you. You are certainly missing delegate methods
ViewController *viewController = [[ViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"ViewController" bundle:nil];
UINavigationController *navigationController = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:viewController];
UIPopoverController *popover = [[UIPopoverController alloc] initWithContentViewController:navigationController];
popover.delegate = self;
popover.popoverContentSize = CGSizeMake(644, 425); //your custom size.
[popover presentPopoverFromRect:button.frame inView:self.view permittedArrowDirections: UIPopoverArrowDirectionLeft | UIPopoverArrowDirectionUp animated:YES];
Just make sure you are not forgetting UIPopover Delegate methods or else application will definitely crash. It is mandatory.
UIViewController *controller = [[UIViewController alloc] init];
[view removeFromSuperview]; //view is a view which is displayed in a popover
controller.view = view;
UIPopoverController *popover = [[UIPopoverController alloc] initWithContentViewController:controller];
popover.delegate = self;
[popover presentPopoverFromRect:button.frame inView:self.view permittedArrowDirections:UIPopoverArrowDirectionLeft animated:YES];
All I had to do was change the property from "retain" to "strong" in the .h file and it works, stopped the app from crashing.
Yes, changing property for "retain" to "strong" makes you to hold your picker view object.
I think the problem with your code was, UIPopoverController object gets deallocated automatically when method finishes.
making strong property gets you to strongly point an object.
