I have an urban airship account and my iOS app ist already configured with the system. My device token is on the server and if I send a test notification from the server I get the notification on my iphone.
BUT how can I send a message FROM my iphone to another user?
I haven't found any stuff about sending through iphone.
This is my code:
NSMutableURLRequest * request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:#"https://go.urbanairship.com/api/push/"]];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[request setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
NSDictionary *push;
push = #{#"aps":#{#"alert":#"How are you?"},#"device_tokens":#[#"87892382J393FS77789S90909N82022312332"]};
and then I have to send it as json or something else???
As documentation on http://docs.urbanairship.com/reference/api/v3/intro.html says, requests are http ones with JSON body.
You need to authorize first. From documentation:
The username portion is the application key. The password portion is
either the application secret, or master secret.
You can find in this question how to authorize on iOS:
NSString *authStr = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#:%#", [self username], [self password]];
NSData *authData = [authStr dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding];
NSString *authValue = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"Basic %#", [authData base64EncodingWithLineLength:80]];
[request setValue:authValue forHTTPHeaderField:#"Authorization"];
And then I guess you should do like this:
#import "JSONKit.h"
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:#"https://go.urbanairship.com/api/push/"]];
request.HTTPMethod = #"POST";
[request setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
NSDictionary *push = #{#"aps":#{#"alert":#"How are you?"},#"device_tokens":#[#"87892382J393FS77789S90909N82022312332"]};
request.HTTPBody = [push.JSONString dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
[NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:req returningResponse:nil error:nil];
Note that you need JSONKit to serialize your dictionary into string
OK this is my actually Method:
- (IBAction)sendPush:(id)sender {
NSMutableURLRequest * request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:#"https://go.urbanairship.com/api/push/"]];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[request setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
NSString *authStr = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"app key:app secret"];
NSData *authData = [authStr dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding];
NSString *authValue = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"Basic %#", [authData base64EncodedDataWithOptions:nil]];
[request setValue:authValue forHTTPHeaderField:#"Authorization"];
NSDictionary *push = #{#"aps":#{#"alert":#"How are you?"},#"device_tokens":#[#"87892382J393FS77789S90909N82022312332"]};
request.HTTPBody = [push.JSONString dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
NSLog(#"push: %#",push);
NSLog(#"request: %#",request);
[NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:nil error:nil];
}
If I comment the line 6-10 out then I get for the NSLog:
2013-11-06 12:59:13.238 myApp[7273:907] push: {
aps = {
alert = "How are you?";
};
"device_tokens" = (
87892382J393FS77789S90909N82022312332
);
}
2013-11-06 12:59:13.241 myApp[7273:907] request: <NSMutableURLRequest https://go.urbanairship.com/api/push/>
I really don't know why it doesn't works!!!
Just FYI, doing this would present a risk in a publicly released app.
Any push through UA requires your master secret to authenticate. If you added your master secret to the app, it would be viewable to a savvy hacker, who could then use it to send unauthorized pushes on your behalf. It has happened to people before.
It's not generally recommended.
This is an Example using the API V3
-(void)richPushNotification{
NSDictionary *push = #{
#"audience" : #{
#"device_token" : deviceToken
},
#"device_types" : #[ #"ios" ],
#"notification" : #{
#"ios" : #{
#"alert":Message,
#"sound":#"default",
#"badge":#"auto",
}
},
#"message": #{
#"title": Message,
#"body": #"<html><body><h1>blah blah</h1> etc...</html>",
#"content_type": #"text/html",
#"extra": #{
#"offer_id" : #"608f1f6c-8860-c617-a803-b187b491568e"
}
}
};
NSMutableURLRequest * request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:[NSURL URLWithString:#"https://go.urbanairship.com/api/push/"]];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[request setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
[request setValue:#"application/vnd.urbanairship+json; version=3;" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Accept"];
NSString *authStr = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#:%#", appKey, appMasterSecret];
NSData *authData = [authStr dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding];
NSString *authValue = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"Basic %#", [authData base64EncodedStringWithOptions:NSDataBase64EncodingEndLineWithLineFeed]];
[request setValue:authValue forHTTPHeaderField:#"Authorization"];
NSData *jsonData = [NSJSONSerialization dataWithJSONObject:push
options:0 // Pass 0 if you don't care about the readability of the generated string
error:NULL];
request.HTTPBody = jsonData;
[NSURLConnection connectionWithRequest:request delegate:self];
}
And The Response:
- (void) connection:(NSURLConnection *) connection didReceiveResponse:(NSURLResponse *) response {
NSHTTPURLResponse * res = (NSHTTPURLResponse *) response;
NSLog(#"response: %#",res);
NSLog(#"res %li\n",(long)res.statusCode);
if (res.statusCode == 202) {
//Show Alert Message Sent
}else{
//Handle Error
}
}

NSString *AuthToken = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]

NSURL *url=[NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"http://www.google.com"]];

NSString *postLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d", [postData length]];

[request setHTTPBody:postData];
NSOperationQueue *queue = [[NSOperationQueue alloc] init];
[NSURLConnection sendAsynchronousRequest:request queue:queue completionHandler:^(NSURLResponse *response, NSData *data, NSError *error)
In above code :
Auth token received from last webservice response is saved in NSUserdefaults,
then used for next webservice request.
So for Eg.
Send auth token : z71VxyfVlBxvNKJ01m64a4oKV9lWEv+fFhHxi+7zyRw=
But server would receives it as :z71VxyfVlBxvNKJ01m64a4oKV9lWEv fFhHxi 7zyRw=
ie All occurrences of "+" are replaced by " ". So server considers it as an invalid auth token and the webservices request returns a result accordingly.
Help me to fix this, thanks in advance
That isn't valid JSON as strings should be surrounded with ". Create an NSDictionary of the values and use NSJSONSerialization to create the JSON string, which you know will be valid:
NSDictionary *values = #[
#"DeviceId": deviceId,
#"DeviceType": #"iOS",
#"UM_Identifier": userEmail,
#"AuthToken": authToken,
#"Query": #"all"
];
NSError *error;
NSData *jsonData = [NSJSONSerialization dataWithJSONObject:values
options:0
error:&error];
NSAssert(jsonData != nil, #"Failed to create JSON data");
NSString jsonString = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:jsonData
encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
I want to create HTTP request post and get response by using simple Objective C Code method. Here below code to I can post successfully. But I didn't receive response data's. Response printing null value only. Please help me, I need to get response data's.
Here below my code
NSString *post = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"name=%#",name];
NSData *postData = [post dataUsingEncoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding allowLossyConversion:YES];
NSString *postLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d",[postData length]];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc]init];
[request setURL:[NSURL URLWithString:[NSString stringWithFormat:URLPATH]]];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[request setValue:postLength forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Length"];
[request setHTTPBody:postData];
NSURLConnection *conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc]initWithRequest:request delegate:self];
if(conn) {
NSLog(#"Connection Successful");
} else {
NSLog(#"Connection could not be made");
}
// Create GET method
NSError *err;
NSURLResponse *responser;
NSData *responseData = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&responser error:&err];
// JSON Formatter
NSError *error;
NSDictionary *jsonsDictionary = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:responseData options:kNilOptions error:&error];
NSDictionary *respon = [jsonsDictionary objectForKey:#"response"];
NSLog(#"UPDATE RESPONSE : %#", respon);
You's data post is NSString *post = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"name=%#",name]; . So in this case you need set request header "Content-Type" to "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" or use following code to convert string to data and set Content-Type header:
NSData *postData = [post dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding allowLossyConversion:YES];
...
[request setValue:#"application/x-www-form-urlencoded; charset=utf-8" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
Its very simple:
//-- Convert string into URL
NSString *jsonUrlString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"demo.com/your_server_db_name/service/link"];
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:[jsonUrlString stringByAddingPercentEscapesUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]];
//-- Send request to server
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc]initWithURL:url];
//-- Send username & password for url authorization
[request setValue: jsonUrlString forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Length"];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"]; //-- Request method GET/POST
//-- Receive response from server
NSData *responseData = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:nil error:nil];
//-- JSON Parsing with response data
NSDictionary *result = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:responseData options:NSJSONReadingMutableContainers error:nil];
NSLog(#"Result = %#",result);

I'm trying to make a POST request using NSURLConnection. I use Charles to debug and Charles every time says that the method is GET. I've tried all different ways and can't get it to work. I am NOT using JSON.
-(void)getList
{
[UIApplication sharedApplication].networkActivityIndicatorVisible = YES;
NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:#"http://example.com/api/getList"];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:url];
NSString *radius = #"15";
NSString *latitude = #"-117.820833";
NSString *longitude = #"34.001667";
NSString *parameters = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"longitude=%#&latitude=%#&radius=%#", longitude,latitude, radius];
NSLog(#"PARAMS = %#", parameters);
NSData *data = [parameters dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[request setValue:#"text/plain" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Accept"];
[request setValue:#"application/x-www-form-urlencoded" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
[request setHTTPBody:data];
NSURLResponse *response = nil;
NSError *error = nil;
NSData *result = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&response error:&error];
NSString *responseString = [[NSString alloc]initWithData:result encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
NSLog(#"RESULT = %#", responseString);
}
Does anybody know what am I doing wrong? When I access my web service it seems like I'm not posting anything. I'm getting empty response.
Please help with any ideas. I pretty much have to make a simple POST request. Maybe someone can help me debug this better.
If the server is redirecting your request for some reason (perhaps authentication) then the POST information can get lost.
I have successfully connected to a server, and getting correct json format String from it. Somehow 9 out of 10 times it return with something extra.. like some crap code i don't recognize. sometimes its just incomplete data. I wonder what I did wrong or what I didn't do..
does anyone has the same problem? and how can I fix it?
NSURL *siteURL = [NSURL URLWithString:tempSiteString];
NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[NSMutableURLRequest alloc]
initWithURL:siteURL
cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData
timeoutInterval:30.0];
NSString *myRequestString = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"data=%#", sqlString];
NSData *myRequestData = [NSData dataWithBytes:[myRequestString UTF8String] length:[sqlString length]];
[request setHTTPMethod: #"POST" ];
[request setValue:#"application/x-www-form-urlencoded" forHTTPHeaderField:#"content-type"];
[request setHTTPBody: myRequestData ];
NSURLResponse *response;
NSError *error;
NSData *returnData = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest: request
returningResponse: &response
error: &error];
NSString *content = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:[returnData bytes]];
here is the code i change the received string to json
NSDictionary *tempNSDictionary = [resultString JSONValue];
if(tempNSDictionary.count==0)
{
return nil;
}
//NSLog(#"Check Point after dictionary");
NSArray *tempNSArray;
if(tempNSDictionary)
{
//NSLog(#"Check Point getArrayFromJsonString 1");
tempNSArray = [tempNSDictionary objectForKey:#"object_name"];
//NSLog(#"Check Point getArrayFromJsonString 2");
}
return tempNSArray;
Iam sending JSON Object request to the server but server returns Status Code 405. how to solve this problem. please any one help me.
My code :
+(NSData *)GpBySalesDetailed:(NSMutableDictionary *)spDetailedDict{
NSLog(#"spDetailedDict:%#",spDetailedDict);
NSString *dataString = [spDetailedDict JSONRepresentation];
NSLog(#"%#dataString",dataString);
return [dataString dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding];
}
-(void)requestWithUrl:(NSURL *)url WithJsonData:(NSData *)JsonData
{
NSMutableURLRequest *urlRequest=[[NSMutableURLRequest alloc]initWithURL:#"http://srbisolutions.com/SmartReportService.svc/GpBySalesPersonDetailed];
if (JsonData != nil) {
[urlRequest setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
[urlRequest setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[urlRequest setHTTPBody:JsonData];
}
else
{
[urlRequest setHTTPMethod:#"GET"];
}
NSURLConnection *conn = [[NSURLConnection alloc] initWithRequest:urlRequest delegate:self startImmediately:YES];
[conn start];
}
HTTP Code 405 means "Method not allowed", it does not accept a post request for this particular URI. Either the server must be configured to accept POST requests or it should offer another URI.
try this
NSMutableURLRequest *request=[NSMutableURLRequest requestWithURL:YOURURL
cachePolicy:NSURLRequestReloadIgnoringLocalCacheData timeoutInterval:10.0 ];
NSLog(#"final request is %#",request);
[request setHTTPMethod:#"POST"];
[request setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];

[request setHTTPBody:[[self convertToJSON:postData] dataUsingEncoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]];
NSString *contentLength = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d",[[request HTTPBody] length]];
[request setValue:contentLength forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Length"];

[theRequest setHTTPBody:bodyData];
[theRequest setValue:#"application/json" forHTTPHeaderField:#"Content-Type"];
// create the connection with the request
