How to parse the ejabberd JID into its parts - erlang

Im writing and ejabberd module that checks if the user exists to do something, im using ejabberd_auth_external:is_user_exists("USER", "HOST") to achieve that however i don't have the USER but the full JID in the form of USER#HOST/RESOURCE, is there any way to get the USER out of that string

The typical way in ejabberd to do this is using jlib:string_to_jid/1 function:

Also, don't use functions from ejabberd_auth_external module directly. Use ejabberd_auth instead.

You can use function string:tokens/2 with separator "#" and the first element of returned list will be user name:
JID = "user.name#host/resource".
[User|_] = string:tokens(JID, "#").

How to determine if sysdig field exists or handle error if it doesn't

I'm using Sysdig to capture some events and have a small chisel (LUA script) to capture and format the events as necessary. On the on_init() I'm requesting fields like so :
f_field = chisel.request_field("<field>")
My question is how can I check if a field exists before requesting it? I'm going to use a new field only just released on 0.24.1 but ideally I'd like my chisel to continue to work on older versions of sysdig without this field. I've tried wrapping the call to chisel.request_field in a pcall() like so :
ok, f_field = pcall(chisel.request_field("<field>"))
and even implementing my own "get_field" function :
function get_field(field)
ok, f = pcall(chisel.request_field(field))
if ok then return f else return nil end
end
f_field = get_field("<field>")
if f_field ~= nil then
-- do something
end
but the error ("chisel requesting nonexistent field <field>") persists.
I can't see a way to check if a field exists but I can't seem to handle the error either. I really don't want multiple versions of my scripts if possible.

You're almost there. Your issue is in how you're using pcall. Pcall takes a function value and any arguments you wish to call that function with. In your example you're passing the result of the request_field function call to pcall. Try this instead..
ok, f = pcall(chisel.request_field, "field")
pcall will call the chisel method with your args in a protected mode and catch any subsequent errors.

Check if entered text is valid in Xtext

lets say we have some grammar like this.
Model:
greeting+=Greeting*;
Greeting:
'Hello' name=ID '!';
I would like to check whether the text written text in name is a valid text.
All the valid words are saved in an array.
Also the array should be filled with words from a given file.
So is it possible to check this at runtime and maybe also use this words as suggestions.

For this purpose you can use a validator.

You might have to replace the "GreetingsPackage" if your DSL isn't named Greetings.
The static String passed to the error-method serves for identification of the error. This gets important when you want to implement Quickfixes which is the second thing you have asked for as they provide the possibility to give the programmer a few ideas how to actually fix this particular problem.
Because I don't have any experience with implementing quickfixes myself I can just give you this as a reference.

How to internationalize a message in grails with a hashmap (key:value)

I need to translate a message key using a Hashmap using the Grails standard internationalization method.
I receive an Enum and a map with the binding, which are going to be replaced in the text.
The Enum indicates, which key is going to be recovered. The bindings have the values to replace on the translation.
messageSource.getMessage("mail.layout.subject.${templateName}",ARGS,"",locale)
The problem is that I need to pass the map to the args like an array, not like a map, but I don't know the order of the args.
My question is, if there are any ways to create a tranlation key like:
mail.layout.subject.ENUM1=Blablabl {name} bablablabl {age}
Instead of
mail.layout.subject.ENUM1=Blablabl {0} bablablabl {1}
Finally I did it with brute force. May be is not the best answer but I coudln't find any one better.
Basically I get the translation with te message resources and then I work with it finding my custom expresions.

The example use a HashMap of HashMaps, but it also works with object because grails/groovy handles the object like HashMaps and viceversa

What I want is if the superuser is logged in ,the filter should show all four criteria All,A,B,C and if the user is other than superuser filter should only show All, A, B.

I think the new FilterSpec API in Django 1.4 gives you exactly what you need here. Check out the docs on list_filter. In 1.4 you can now make custom list filters that subclass django.contrib.admin.SimpleListFilter and give you the power to write custom lookup and queryset code, and since the request is passed in you can do a simple conditional with is_superuser.

read the example code in the docs carefully and I think it will all be clear.

Is it possible to use a record as a record element

I want to define a large record using a composite of smaller records, in an attempt to make the declaration more readable.
I'm trying to do something like this:
-record(molly, {xx=0, yy=1}).
-record(harry, {#molly, zz=2}.
The above of course does not compile :-(
Is there some way to do this ??
Finally found the answer in a tutorial.....
-record(name, {first = "Robert", last = "Ericsson"}).
-record(person, {name = #name{}, phone}).

Yes, there is -- wxErlang uses this a lot for event messages. The use syntax looks like
#wx{id=1, event=#wxCommand{}}
where the event field of the outer record is set to an empty wxCommand.
The corresponding declaration is
