How to share a ViewModel between different pages in jQuery mobile? - jquery-mobile

I am trying to share a ViewModel between pages.
Say I have pageA.html and pageB.html and a separate data.js file. pageA has fields bound (using Knockout) and after clicking a button it moves to pageB which also has some fields bound to the same ViewModel. I can't get this to work - what am I missing?
Of course I can keep all pages (data-role="page") inside a single .html file and it would work fine but is that the only way?
EDIT - pageB.html is a copy of pageA - I am trying to show the problem NOT having another login functionality in many pages!!!
This is the code:
pageA.html
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

jQuery Mobile uses Ajax Navigation to load and change views. When using multi-html page template, it loads first page (html file) entirely. However, for other views /pages fetched with Ajax, it loads contents inside <body> only, neglecting other tags i.e. <script>, <head> etc...
To solve your problem, move any extra JS libraries or code inside <div data-role="page">.

colorpicker in MVC-project

I got this textbox where i can put a hex-color to change the color in my application:
#Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Page.Color)
Is there a, not to complicated, way to change the textbox into
a colorpicker?
For simplicity i try to add farbtastic to the layout, here is the full page:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8" />
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0">
<title>#ViewBag.Title - My ASP.NET Application</title>
#Styles.Render("~/Content/css")
#Scripts.Render("~/bundles/modernizr")
<link rel="stylesheet" href="~/Content/farbtastic.css" type="text/css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="~/Scripts/jquery-1.10.2.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="~/Scripts/farbtastic.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#demo').hide();
$('#picker').farbtastic('#color');
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="demo" style="color: red; font-size: 1.4em">jQuery.js is not present. You must install jQuery in this folder for the demo to work.</div>
<form action="" style="width: 400px;">
<div class="form-item"><label for="color">Color:</label><input type="text" id="color" name="color" value="#123456" /></div><div id="picker"></div>
</form>
<div class="container body-content">
#RenderBody()
<hr />
<footer>
<p>© #DateTime.Now.Year - My ASP.NET Application</p>
</footer>
</div>
#Scripts.Render("~/bundles/jquery")
#Scripts.Render("~/bundles/bootstrap")
#RenderSection("scripts", required: false)
</body>
</html>
The <div id="demo" style="color: red; font-size: 1.4em">jQuery.js is not present. You must install jQuery in this folder for the demo to work.</div>
Does not run so I suppose it works...However, no wheel is showing in my view, just the
iputboxes. What could be wrong?
Download Farbtastic
Include farbtastic.js and farbtastic.css into your solution. Then have this html and jquery on page -
<html>
<head>
<title>Farbtastic</title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="farbtastic.js"></script>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="farbtastic.css" type="text/css" />
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8">
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#demo').hide();
$('#picker').farbtastic('#color');
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<h1>jQuery Color Picker: Farbtastic</h1>
<div id="demo" style="color: red; font-size: 1.4em">jQuery.js is not present. You must install jQuery in this folder for the demo to work.</div>
<form action="" style="width: 400px;">
<div class="form-item"><label for="color">Color:</label><input type="text" id="color" name="color" value="#123456" /></div><div id="picker"></div>
</form>
</body>
</html>
Then when you run -

Whenever this happens to me (as - I admit - it does from time to time), it is ALWAYS that the CSS file for jQuery Mobile is missing, linked to the wrong path, or I have a typo (used a "dot" instead of a "dash" more often than not).
Any chance that could be it?
A quick way to check is to open up the file you pasted in above in Chrome (or whatever) and look at the debug console for any messages throwing a fit about the CSS file.

panel won't open and pageinit won't fire

I'm trying to open a jquery mobile panel through code but the method is not recognized.
the error I'm getting is: "Object[object Object} has no method 'panel' "
I have a html page consists of several jquery-mobile div pages and an external javascript file.
this is the js function:
function open_panel() {
var selected_child=$('#kids_select').val();
alert(selected_child);
$("#mypanel").panel("open");
// $("#mypanel").panel().panel("open");
}
$('#mypanel').live('pageinit', function () {
alert("works");
});
I'ts a project started by another student, and he included duplicate js files in the html head section. I guess it's because the old jquery mobile is loaded insted of the 1.3, but when I try to remove some of the references the design gets all messy or some other code isn't recognized.
here's the head section:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.3.0/jquery.mobile-1.3.0.min.css" />
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.2.min.js"></script>

finnaly I added a href attribute to the 'a' tag pointing the panel and it gets loaded after the function fires up, but the panel's pageinit function won't fire.
I tried:
$('#mypanel').live('pageinit', function () {
alert("works");
});
and:
$('#mypanel').live('pageshow', function () {
alert("works");
});
but that doesn't work
here's the relevant part of the html body: (with the panel)
<div data-role="page" id="mainpage">
<div data-theme="b" data-role="header">
<h3>

</h3>
</div>
<div data-role="content" style="text-align: center;">
<div>
<div style="width: 50%; float: left">
<label for="NewkidBTN">
Click to add new kid</label>
<a id="NewkidBTN" data-role="button" data-theme="b" href="#RegisterChild" data-icon="plus"
data-iconpos="right">Add Kid</a>
</div>
<div id="kids_div">
</div>
</div>
<a onclick="open_panel()" href="#mypanel" data-role="button" data-inline="true" data-icon="bars">Add transaction</a>
</div>
<div data-role="panel" id="mypanel">
<h3>enter action</h3>
<select name="select-type" id="select-type" onclick="return select-type_onclick()">

</select>
<label for="ammount">Write the ammount</label>
<input type="number" data-clear-btn="false" name="ammount" id="ammount" value="">
<label for="desc" class="ui-hidden-accessible">

<input type="text" name="desc" id="descTB" value="" placeholder="description" runat="server" />
<button id="Button1" type="submit" data-theme="b" data-icon="check" runat="server" onclick="transaction">
submit</button>
</div>
edit:
I changed the head section by removing old jquery mobile and jquery.
now the panel loads but the pageinit function I added to the panel won't fire up.
I tried every syntax, such as:
$('#mypanel').live('pageshow', function () {
alert("works");
});
$('#mypanel').live('pageinit', function () {
alert("works");
$('#mypanel').on('pageshow', function () {
alert("works");
});
$('#mypanel').on('pageinit', function () {
alert("works");
});
maybe panels don't work like pages in jquery mobile..
the head now looks like this:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://code.jquery.com/mobile/1.3.0/jquery.mobile-1.3.0.min.css" />
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.8.2.min.js"></script>

Sammy.js and Knockout.js => Templating without templates?

I am fairly new to the concept of javascript client side development. I am running into an issue, though it may be I just don't understand how to accomplish something with the mash of frameworks.
I know I want to use Knockout for it's rich client side goodies. I also wanna use Sammy.js to allow for routing and passing data to the knockout views (I come from an MVC background where I stuff a model with data, then return view(model), and MVC binds it nice and good for me).
So now I am trying to do something similar client side...
Here is my Index.html :
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, height=device-height, initial-scale=1.0, maximum-scale=1.0, user-scalable=no;" />
<meta http-equiv="Content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>

<!--Sammy should update the content of this div dynamically, creating a SPA (single page application)-->

</html>
Here is my Sammy Configuration.

alert('Building Routes');
var app = $.sammy('#main', function () {
this.use('Tmpl', 'html');
this.get('#/', function (context) {
alert('Rendering Partial for Login page');
context.app.swap('Loading...');
this.render("/views/Login.html");
});
});
$(function () {
app.run('#/');
});
})(jQuery);
Here is my Login.html
<!--Model File Goes Here -->
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" src="../models/Login.js"></script>

</fieldset>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
ko.applyBindings(new LoginDataModel(0, "Stevie", "theTV", true));
});
</script>
I also need some way to pass the data from the sammy get handler, to the knockout page. Is there a way to do this, or am I attempting the impossible?
UPDATE 1 :
I would really love to be able to do something like :
var app = $.sammy('#main', function () {
this.use('Tmpl', 'html');
this.get('#/', function (context) {
alert('Rendering Partial for Login page');
context.app.swap('Loading...');
var data = getLoginData();
this.render("/views/Login.html", data);
});
Sammy does this same exact thing using other template frameworks, however, I don't see how I would bind the $data in the Knockout view to the data passed from Sammy.
Not sure if you saw this, but the webmail tutorial on the knockoutjs website uses sammy.js for routing:
http://learn.knockoutjs.com/#/?tutorial=webmail
Here's a link to the finished product (so you can view source if you don't want to follow the whole tutorial)
http://learn.knockoutjs.com/WebmailExampleStandalone.html
the Knockout.js-External-Templates plugin will help you in achieving this behavior. A good starting point will be from here
EDIT: The "starting point" link now goes to malware.
Even John Papa endorses it here
The above solution is useful only when you frequently reuse your templates. Use inline templating whenever possible. Inline templating – and using foreach binding, performs around 1/3 faster than applying template from a separate DOM element, the so-called named template binding. More info on this here

jquery mobile style applies for whole project - why?

I want only the landing page to be styled with Jquery. It´s a Login page, when the user logs in with his phone it should show the usual style

As you can see in the form Im using grails for the backend. My problem is, all the other pages show jquery mobile style too when I login via this page. Why is it? Is ist because the import via "link" tag makes it global for the whole project?
thanks in advance Daniel

As I understand, you've added jquery-mobile into main layout (layout/layout.gsp) And your login.gsp page extends it (it's <meta name="layout" content="layout"/>)
It's better to make two layouts:
/views/layout/mobile.gsp - for mobile pages
/views/layout/browser.gsp - for standard pages
and extend just that layout that you need for current page.
You can read more about Grails layouts at http://grails.org/doc/latest/guide/6.%20The%20Web%20Layer.html#6.2.4%20Layouts%20with%20Sitemesh
Concerning:
when I create a layout "mobile" and import it into the loginMobile page, and only there, the jquery Mobile style applies for the whole project again.
As far as I understand from the history of this question, might be due to the fact that ajax is enabled by default.
Have you tried to use the data-ajax="false" attribute, for instance on the submit link/button?
