Apple recommends us to use, self.edgesForExtendedLayout = UIRectEdgeNone; to avoid fullscreen layout. however this is working when we have UIViewController within a UINavigationController and the navigationBar is visible. In my app, I didn't use the UINavigationController. can anyone help me to solve this overlapping issue on UIViewController without NavigationBar.
Finally I myself found the answer. We need to offset the frame in

Since I am ofSetting the frame in - (void) viewDidLayoutSubviews method, user will not see the transition. If we offset the frame in -(void) viewDidload, user will see the transition. Hope this will help someone.
Do you set wantsFullScreenLayout = YES somewhere on ViewController?
Just offset your view in viewDidLoad:

The short answer is there's no way to prevent the status bar from overlapping your application on iOS 7. edgesForExtendedLayout only affects the child view controllers inside a UINavigationController or UITabBarController.
You'll need to move the contents of your app into a (0,20,320,548) container view if you want to preserve the iOS 6 style layout.
Add following code in ViewDidLoad

I’m trying to make an iOS Action app extension with minimal UI. Basically it would just show a progress indicator until the action completed. I just want to be able to animate the view so that it slides down from the top & then slides back up when the action has completed. If anyone is familiar with Instapaper’s Share extension, then that’s the kind of basic UI I’m looking for.
The problem is that when I try to duplicate this functionality - I just have a small UIView that animates down from the top - I get a black background behind my view. I can’t figure out how to make that background transparent so that the stuff behind my view is still visible. Does anyone know how to do this?
As a starting point I’m just using the default Action Extension template that’s created by Xcode...
Create a new iOS app project in Xcode.
Add a new target -> Action Extension.
In the ActionViewController.m file add a viewWillAppear method to animate the view (using a 1 second animation so that the black background is easily seen):

When this is run the view is animated sliding down from the top. However rather than seeing the UI of the calling App all you see is a black background.
I’ve tried a number of things - changing the modalPresentationStyle (doesn’t seem to do anything), setting the entire view to hidden (this just makes the whole screen black), etc.
For reference this is using iOS 9.3.2 and Xcode 7.3.1.
From what I understand from Apple docs
In iOS, an Action extension:
Helps users view the current document in a different way
Always appears in an action sheet or full-screen modal view
Receives selected content only if explicitly provided by the host app
The fact that the Action extension always appear in a full-screen view on an iPhone might mean that there's no way of having a transparent background.
I am certain that a Share extension can be animated (I've done it myself) how you want it and have a transparent background. That's why Instapaper's Share extension works nicely.
You are facing two problems:
1. When you present a view controller, the default behavior is the controller is full screen context. That is the reason you see a black screen.
2. You are trying to change self.view.frame when the controller is presented on full screen.
Yet there is a way to achieve this kind of behavior you are looking for, in one of three ways:
A. Specify "modalPresentationStyle" to "UIModalPresentationOverCurrentContext" and set the presenting controller to "definesPresentationContext".
That way, when you present the controller, the presenting controller will be behind the presented controller.
And insted of changing self.view.frame you will set self.view background color to clear, and add a subview and use it as a background view:

B. Add the presented view controller as a Child view controller. that way the life cycle stays the same, but you can add I'ts view as a subview, and change I'ts frame.

C. Don't use UIViewController, use UIView. Use a "Decorator" object, that you pass it the ViewController you would like the view to disaply on, and the "Decorator" will add the view as subview, and deal with the animation. No need for an example for this scenario.
It is wrong to start animations when your view hasn't yet appeared. Can you, please, try the same code in viewDidAppear.
Also animating main view controller's view will make underlying layers visible, so you've got to use another view on top of view controller's main view, like this:

Since I'm using navigation controller and pushing from one to another using [self.navigationController pushViewController:newone animated:YES];. It works fine in all view controllers. But, if the viewcontroller has mkmapview in xib, status bar issue of ios 7 occurs.
If I delete the mapview form xib and push to that view controller means, it will be like,

If you add mapView in viewWillAppear replace it in viewDidAppear.
Maybe you have this issue because you're doing manipulations with view's frames before your view is completely set up
I would highly suggest against doing it like that.
If you're using interface builder, then add constraints based on how you want your application to look and the frame will auto adjust itself.
If you're not using interface builder, then still use constraints, but get a good tutorial about making constraints programatically (as I don't know how to do it myself).
Edit: The reason I HIGHLY suggest not doing it with hardcoded numbers is that it'll be a pain to do iOS 6/7 Landscape/Portrait 3.5/4 inch screens. That's 8 cases.

According to your description and screenshots, you are trying to move the whole UINavigationController.view.frame 20 pt, and the MapView(ScrollView) did something to prevent it happened (or re-set), put some breakpoint and log to track the frame of UINavigationController.view.frame changed.
Could you please provide a sample project? I'm so curious about what really happened.

If you have a xib. Did you try to enabled Top Bar in simulated Metrics ?
Don't know why, my search bar in iOS 7 is leaving a right space. It's ok in iOS 6.
I know it has something to do with the section index, because if I remove it the space disappears, but I don't know how to fix it. Any thoughts?
Embed your UISearchBar in a UIView and then add that as the tableHeaderView. Structuring it that way in a storyboard worked for me. I'm guessing iOS resizes the UISearchBar in the tableHeaderView, but leaves a basic UIView alone (and doesn't bother to look inside it).
You might also want to make the section index transparent, which I did with:
[[UITableView appearance] setSectionIndexBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]];
[[UITableView appearance] setSectionIndexTrackingBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]];
Until a better answer appears, I just manually changed the frame of the search bar like this:

I had this same issue with the iPhone 6/ 6Plus when using a SearchDisplayController. (Using Swift)
I tried setting the frame of the search bar but with no luck but i noticed that if i tapped on the textField of the UISearchBar and then cancelled it then it would take on the proper size of the view. I therefore managed to fix the issue by calling the code below in ViewDidLoad of the viewController using the search.

The reason for that white edge is because your index layer has a white background and is on top of the search bar. This should be sufficient.
Add the search bar inside a UIView put as tableView's header view. Set the tableview's sectionIndexBackgroundColor to clear color because it covers the header.
Tested with iOS 7, 7.1;
Because the table view always leaves 15px on the right for section Indexes View, so you should resize the Seach bar after reloading the table view

I also attached a UISearcBar in my application, and nothing is wrong there even my application supports rotation also.

I added the search bar as a subview of the top-level view instead of the table view. Used autolayout to pin the searchbar to the top guide, and a vertical space constraint of 0 between the search bar and the table view.
The accepted solution with the method viewDidLayoutSubviews makes the screen flicker.
Instead what I did was create a subclass of UISearchBar that simply does this:

I've got the same problem and solved it using storyboard.
At Tab Bar Controller, go to attribute inspector, Simulated Metrics, and set the Bottom Bar to Opaque Tab Bar. That's it!

My friends, I cannot tell you how badly I struggled from this. Not a single re-configuration of Story Board never helped me. The issue was exactly like in Original Post, I've managed to fix it using:

In iOS 7 viewController uses full height. There is a property introduced as
self.automaticallyAdjustsScrollViewInsets = NO;
set it to no. then check, or set UIEdgeInset if is not set right after it.

The root cause of this problem is that automaticallyAdjustsScrollViewInsets is effective only on the First scroll view in your VC's view Hierarchy. It is not documented by Apple, but it is the only way the VC will detect the scroll view needing to be modified unless you're using a UITableViewController.
So in order to fix your issue without manually adjusting the insets, do this:
Make sure "Adjust Scroll View Insets" is checked.
Make sure that the tableView is the first subview in the view Hierarchy.
(Move it upwards above all other elements)
UIViewController has two new properties to assist you : topLayoutGuide and bottomLayoutGuide. They return the height of the parent view controller's controls you need to avoid. In this case, bottomLayoutGuide will return the offset of the tab bar.
Your custom view controller is probably overriding a method and not invoking super's implementation where this would be done for you. I am guessing you are installing AutoLayout constraints or setting a view's frame manually to fill the view. You just need to include the value from [bottomLayoutGuide length] to your layout calculation. If you support rotation, you should update that value in willAnimateRotationToInterfaceOrientation:duration:.
UINavigationController and UITabBarController both have a transparency flag that can be set programmatically or in the storyboard.
The UINavigationController also has two flags that control if the content extends under the top or bottom bar. Again you can set them programmatically or in the storyboard. This will apply to all subviews.
Each UIViewController can set its own preference in code. The property is called edgesForExtendedLayout and you can set up all combinations.
Using those properties will allow AutoLayout and Springs'n'Struts to adjust the views the way you want them regardless of the device.
There are a lot more new properties in UIViewController that you will want to have a look at.
Try the following:

I've got the same problem. One solution to it is to make the ToolBar not Translucent. Here's how to do it:
First select the tool bar from the document viewer

Then uncheck Translucent like here

The problem was masked using:

But it doesn't solve, because on each iPhone and on each app tableview i have a different space on bottom.
So this is a poor solution.
I dont know a way to solve it.
I solved my problem now, changing my BaseTableViewController to inherit from UIViewController to UITableViewController.
But using a TableView inside a UIViewController is not solved :(

I solved the issue by manually setting the table view's frame in the table view controller's viewWillAppear: method to the height of the screen - (status bar height + nav bar height + tab bar height).

I have a Scrollview, it's properties are set in viewDidAppear.
Now when I get to the Scrollview first time there isn't any problem. However I have buttons that are assigned to UINavigationController. So when I press into one of them UINavigationController opens up, when I close the navigation controller, ScrollView does not restore properly. It basically aligns the centre of the screen as previously pressed button location. So if I try to scroll up it does not.
I have tried using this in my viewDidAppear:
scrollView.center = CGPointMake(scrollView.contentOffset.x, scrollView.contentOffset.y);
Which did not quite work. How can I solve this? I am using iOS6.1

I've had this problem before too. This answer shows how to overcome this issue.
Basically, you need to set the scrollview's contentOffset appropriately in viewWillAppear: and viewDidDisappear:.
