In my iOS app I need to access the profile pictures of a user's facebook friends. Is this something that can be done with the iOS6 Social framework? Or would I need to use the Facebook API? The documentation for the Social framework is vague in that is says "common uses for the framework are..." but doesn't seem to give any concrete details on what it can or can't do.
Also does anyone have any tips on the best way to get the profile picture images of facebook friends?
The social framework, by virtue of SLRequest, lets you do basically anything with the graph API. The Facebook docs tell you what parameters and permissions you need and then SLRequest creates the authenticated request for you and executes it (performRequestWithHandler:).

As the title suggests I want to add Social media extensions into my iOS application, I have seen multiple tutorials on how to publish to an external source e.g. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc... which seems easy enough.
Now my question is it possible to do the reverse and instead retrieve information from these external factors? For example if I set the application to look directly at my Facebook profile when loaded and retrieve my Facebook status's.
I've heard of the concept of a Facebook Graph API which I plan on learning of the next couple of weeks. I'm looking for any resource materials or videos which I can use to learn from. I'm currently looking through Facebook's developers options but any additional information would be great.
You're going to want to use their official API. These links are a good starting point.
Facebook SDK for iOS
Twitter SDK for iOS
Instagram support for iOS
In my IOS app i Want to add twitter login in order to fetch the user's information like Name, Email ID and Profile picture. Can anyone please provide me some useful information or some tutorial link that can help in integrating twitter login in my app and to fetch user information.
If you're just trying to do some really simple login stuff and are new to iOS, I would definitely check out Parse's Twitter Login tools.
https://parse.com/docs/ios_guide#twitterusers/iOS
Really user friendly and simple to get the hang of.
If you want to add twitter login to your app in a simple way, I would recommend you to use Fabric framework. Follow this link: https://dev.twitter.com/fabric/ios
Note: You can't bring user's email easily. You need to get permissions from twitter by filling a form in twitter website or else by sending email to fabric team.
Twitter Kit provides all the required functionalities and mechanism for making authenticated requests to Twitter's REST API.
Follow the configuration process here.
Using TWTRSession, you can request for TWTRUser object and that will have what you need.
This is the right way and advisable one too.
I've successfully connected in Facebook using Social Framework, also able to get list of my friends. However, I need to invite friend to use my app, I have been reading some articles and stackoverflow, that this need to use Facebook SDK.
Now, I able to achieve this using Facebook SDK. but then I need to re-logging (show pop up or direct to FB app). What I want is, to use session or outhToken that I have while I connected using Social Framework and use it in Facebook SDK. what I know, I have outhToken already. how to use this maybe to pass in FBSession or whatever class object to show app request ?
below is sample of app request.
For those who stumbled this question,
Facebook now remove graph API to grab friends that doesn't install the app. hence we cannot invite friends who doesn't install app.
even using Facebook SDK. if anyone has better solution or any updates on this, please share.
I find it disturbing that its very easy to pick friends with friendPicker (FacebookSDK) and post pictures is extremely easy with IOS 6.0 social framework but to post the two combined seems very difficult.
I'm looking into the Facebook Open Graph API - https://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/getting-started/
It seems very difficult in comparison since it requires application server etc. Its however the only solution I have found so far.
Is the use of the Open Graph API the way to go, to post a picture with tagged friends to facebook wall, or is there anything in the IOS Social Framework that can accomplish this?
With the Facebook Object API, you no longer need to set up a server in order to host Open Graph objects. You can directly create/add them to Facebook.
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/using-object-api/
You can also use the native Share Dialog (in versions 3.5+ of the SDK) to share Open Graph stories with photos and user tagging embedded. See the Scrumptious app on how to create a story with photos and tags and publishing either via Open Graph directly, or using the native Share Dialog.
I've never used the FaceBook SDK before so I'm not sure what I should be using or whether what I'm thinking of can actually be done. But I want to try to integrate some Facebook functionality with my ASP.NET MVC3 application.
What I need to do:
I want to be able to access someone's Facebook account (granted their permission) and allow them to send out invitations to my website. But, when a friend clicks on the link in the invitation message (whether a wall post, PM... whatever), follows through and registers on the site, I want to be able to track that (maybe by appending the ID or username of the this user to the invitation link, and then extract it from the query string when the invited person/friend registers).
Questions:
From what I've read so far and according to this link, what I think I should be using is the Facebook Connect API. Am I right?
Is what I'm trying to achieve actually doable? Basically, can I append the username to the invitation link? Is Facebook okey with that?
Do you have any good resources other than the Facebook Developer Wiki? Share them please!
P.S: I do not want users to login to my website using their Facebook account. I have my own Membership system. I just want to allow them to invite their friends to register at my website and track that. More requirements might arise but for now that is all what I need.
Your help is appreciated!
EDIT:
Ok I went ahead and created some test app using the Developer FB app to do some experiments. One thing I do not understand though...
Canvas Page: The base URL of your app on Facebook.
Canvas URL: Facebook pulls the content for your app's canvas pages from this base URL.
So what exactly is the Canvas URL? From what I understand, it's a URL to a resource (page?) on my website which Facebook can display inside the Canvas Page, is that correct?

Facebook documentation + facebook developers forum, that should be all for you. Also, as you are using asp.net mvc, facebooksdk discussion will help you also if you use that library. I will stringly recommend to use that library.
Also, it seems, you are a beginner on facebook api with c#. If so, you can consider my blog post for beginners on facebook open graph api tutorial in c#. There also some other related posts also.Hope you may like them.
Let me know if you wanted to know something else also specifically.
