Below is the code I'm using in my ASP MVC view. I'd like the tab order to go from the first to last text box inputs in the fieldsets below in this order:
AgentTypeFields
BasicFields
AddressFields
CommunicationFields
DistributionFields
DRMFields
DSSAgentIds
DSSFields
Right now when the focus of the page is on the first input box of AgentTypeFields, which is the fieldset in the leftDiv of the topDiv. When the user is done tabbing through this fieldset, the focus then shifts to the first input of DistributionFields. Basically I need the tab index to move from the leftDiv fieldsets going from the topDiv, middleDiv, to the bottomDiv, and then back up through the rightDiv elements of the same top/middle/bottom divs.
I've tried puttint a tabindex property on the div and fieldset elements but this simply puts the focus on the element itself, not the inputs contained within it. Not the greatest when it comes to HTML/CSS so any suggests/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
<div id="BigDiv" style="clear:both;">
#Html.HiddenFor(model => model.CreatedDate)
#Html.HiddenFor(model => model.CreatedOperator)
#Html.HiddenFor(model => model.ReferenceNumber)
#Html.HiddenFor(model => model.ReferenceType)
#Html.HiddenFor(model => model.ExtRepType)
#Html.HiddenFor(model => model.Region)
#Html.HiddenFor(model => model.INDDist)
<div id="topDiv">
<div class="LeftDiv" style="width: 450px; float:left;">
<fieldset id="AgentTypeFields" style="width: 400px;">...</fieldset>
</div>
<div class="RightDiv" style="width: 450px; float:left;">
<fieldset id="DistributionFields" style="width: 400px;">...</fieldset>
</div>
</div>
<div id="middleDiv">
<div class="LeftDiv" style="width: 450px; float:left;">
<fieldset id="BasicFields" style="width: 400px;">...</fieldset>
</div>
<div class="RightDiv" style="width: 450px; float:left;">
<fieldset id="DRMFields" style="width: 400px;">...</fieldset>
</div>
</div>
<div id="bottomDiv">
<div class="LeftDiv" style="width: 450px; float:left;">
<fieldset id="AddressFields" style="width: 400px;">...</fieldset>
<fieldset id="CommunicationFields" style="width: 400px;">...</fieldset>
</div>
<div class="RightDiv" style="width: 450px; float:left;">
<fieldset id="DSSAgentIds" style="width: 400px;">...</fieldset>
<fieldset id="DSSFields" style="width: 400px;">...</fieldset>
</div>
</div>
<p>
<input type="submit" value="Save" />
#Html.ActionLink("Back to Search", "Index", "Agent")
</p>
</div>
Put the tabindex on the first field in those fieldsets rather than the fieldset itself. However, this is really going to screw with the blind individuals who come to your site.

I have several textboxes within Bootstrap columns that I want to bring closer to one another, but no matter what I do the distance between textboxes stays the same.
How can I
Shorten the distance between the textboxes?
Shorten/make more narrow the column background or bring the textbox closer to the outside of a column
Here is the code that I have

Thank you in advance for everyone's help
I have used the basic angular script which update what ever you type in the input field on any element we specify, real time...
<!doctype html>
<html ng-app>
<head>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.0.7/angular.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div>
<label>Name:</label>
<input type="text" ng-model="yourName" placeholder="Enter a name here">
<hr>
<h1>Hello {{yourName}}!</h1>
</div>
</body>
</html>
Im new to Angular. I used this on may rails app. But the problem is, the field I used ng-model will reset its valu after submit. Even setting the 'value' attribute won't work. How can I fix this?
Exact code generated from my rails application :
<form accept-charset="UTF-8" action="/members" class="custom" id="new_member" method="post">
<div class="row collapse text-field">
<div class="small-4 columns">
<h3>Add Member : </h3>
</div>
<div class="small-6 columns left inline">
<h3 class="subheader inline"> {{newEntry.name}}</h3>
</div>
</div>
<div class="row collapse text-field">
<div class="small-3 columns">
<label class="prefix" for="member_name">Full Name</label>
</div>
<div class="small-7 columns left">
<input class="input" id="member_name" name="member[name]" ng-model="newEntry.name" type="text" value="gj" />
</div>
</div>
<div class="row collapse text-field">
<div class="small-3 columns">
<label class="prefix" for="member_address">Address</label>
</div>
<div class="small-9 columns">
<textarea class="input" height="115" id="member_address" name="member[address]">
</textarea>
</div>
</div>
<div class="row">
<div class="small-9 columns" ><input class="button radius" name="commit" type="submit" value="Add Member" /></div>
</div>
</form>
Note : I haven't used an ng-controller. Im new to Angular. If its required, please tell me how to convert the above to the controller. I can get the value of the field and send it back to the form in rails. Its there in a variable. But Angular keeps wiping it!
Note2 : This problem persist only for the input field I used angular-model.. All the other fields retained the data!
Ok this is not the best solution but you could do this:
<input type="text" ng-init="yourName = 'Your Value Goes Here'" ng-model="yourName" placeholder="Enter a name here">
ng-init directives are run when the app intialises, so your value will be assigned to angular's internal "yourName" model and be updated in the view accordingly.
That would solve your problem but its not the best way. Hopefully that will get you going for now - I'll try and post a more "ideal" solution shortly.
I have a control group of buttons that looks like this:
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<label>Ahead</label>
<div data-role="controlgroup" data-type="horizontal">
Hour
Day
Week
Month
</div>
</div>
I'd like for the label to look like the rest of the labels in my form. As you can see, the label is not inline with the control group as it is with other controls:
How do I wrap a control group in a field container and have the label appear inline? Is it possible? I didn't see any examples of this on the jqmobile site.
The entire markup for the form is:
<div data-role="content">
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<label for="select-native-1">Metric</label>
<select name="select-native-1" id="select-native-1">
<asp:Repeater ID="ui_metrics" ClientIDMode="Static" runat="server">
<ItemTemplate>
<option value='<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "id")%>'><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "friendly_name")%></option>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
</select>
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<label for="select-native-1">Interval</label>
<select name="select-native-1" id="select1">
<asp:Repeater ID="ui_interval" ClientIDMode="Static" runat="server">
<ItemTemplate>
<option value='<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "id")%>'><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "friendly_name")%></option>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
</select>
</div>
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<label for="datetime-4">Start Date</label>
<input type="datetime-local" name="datetime-4" id="datetime-4" value="" />
</div>
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<label>Ahead</label>
<div data-role="controlgroup" data-type="horizontal">
Hour
Day
Week
Month
</div>
</div>
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<div data-role="rangeslider">
<label for="range-7a">Index:</label>
<input type="range" name="range-7a" id="range-7a" min="0" max="100" value="0" />
<label for="range-7b">Index:</label>
<input type="range" name="range-7b" id="range-7b" min="0" max="100" value="100" />
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Solution
Working example: http://jsfiddle.net/Gajotres/PMrDn/64/
HTML:
<div data-role="fieldcontain" id="custom-fieldcontain">
<label>Ahead</label>
<div data-role="controlgroup" data-type="horizontal">
Hour
Day
Week
Month
</div>
</div>
CSS:
#media all and (min-width: 28em){
#custom-fieldcontain label {
width: 22% !important;
display: inline-block;
}
#custom-fieldcontain [data-role=controlgroup] {
width: 78% !important;
display: inline-block;
}
#custom-fieldcontain [data-role=controlgroup] .ui-controlgroup-controls {
width: 100% !important;
}
#custom-fieldcontain [data-role=controlgroup] .ui-controlgroup-controls a {
width: 24.5% !important;
}
}
Info
Working example was made using your HTML. Media queries are used directly from jQuery Mobile css file. Rest of CSS is a label fix / content fix.
Here an example without customizing the fieldcontainer...
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<fieldset data-role="controlgroup" data-type="horizontal">
<legend>Ahead</legend>
<input type="radio" name="radio1" id="hour" checked="checked">
<label for="hour">Hour</label>
<input type="radio" name="radio1" id="day">
<label for="day">Day</label>
<input type="radio" name="radio1" id="week">
<label for="week">Week</label>
<input type="radio" name="radio1" id="month">
<label for="month">Month</label>
</fieldset>
</div>
They dont stand in the same line because div with controlgroup is a block element. You could use one of the two solutions which I've used before :
Solution 1 : Using CSS to achieve the inline look
Solution
Just add a display: inline property to the control group, you're good to go.
[data-role=controlgroup] {
padding-left : 2em;
display: inline;
}
Note
The CSS selector I've used is just an indicator. Try using ID for the control group you want to change. Also, make sure that the custom style you are adding is loaded after jQM's style. To adjust the seperation between label and buttons, change the padding-left to your hearts' content.
Solution 2: Using grids to set up the layout
Grids provide a good way to arrange elements in jQM. A typical grid layoud would look like this :
<div class="ui-grid-a">
<div class="ui-block-a"><div class="ui-bar ui-bar-e" style="height:60px">Block A</div></div>
<div class="ui-block-b"><div class="ui-bar ui-bar-e" style="height:60px">Block B</div></div>
</div><!-- /grid-a -->
This is a typical 2-column layout, which we'd use here as well. So here's how your layout must look like :
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<div class="ui-grid-a">
<div class="ui-block-a" style="width:20%">
<label>Ahead</label>
</div>
<div class="ui-block-b" style="width:70%">
<div data-role="controlgroup" data-type="horizontal">
Hour
Day
Week
Month
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Note
You could adjust the width of the ui-block-* elements to any size you need by changing the width property in the HTML tag.

I have a very simple jquery mobile page. It has a header, a footer and the body has asks for login and password with textboxes, and then you can submit.
My problem is that jQuery Mobile makes the textboxes hold about 100 characters, making my entire display way too small. Is there a way to force it to make the textboxes only hold about 12 characters and then make everything in the body larger?
Here is my code:
<div data-role="page" id="login">
<div data-role="header">
<h1>heade</h1>
</div>
<div data-role="content">
<form action="login.py" id="login_form" data-ajax="false">
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<label for="name" style="font-size: px; font-weight: bold;"> User Name: </label>
<input type="text" name="uname" minlength="3" />
</div>
<div data-role="fieldcontain">
<label for="password"> Password: </label>
<input type="password" name="password" />
</div>
<div id="submitDiv" data-role="fieldcontain">
<fieldset class="ui-grid-a">
<div class="ui-block-a">
<input type="reset" value="Reset" />
</div>
<div class="ui-block-b">
<input type="submit" value="Submit" />
</div>
</fieldset>
</div>
</form>
</div>
<div data-role="footer">
<div data-role="navbar">
<ul>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
I see this post is old, but maybe this will help someone...
Did you try adding something like this to your css?
div input { width: 12px !important; }
#using (Html.BeginForm("Boxing", "Company",FormMethod.Post))
{
<div class="box">
<div>
<div class="left">
<div class="topLabel">
Id No:</div>
<div class="input_text_65">
#Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Id)
</div>
<div class="botLabel">
percentt:
</div>
<div>
<input type="text" style="width: 50px" name="percent" />%
</div>
</div>
<div class="lastDetailField">
<div class="topLabel">
D/C:
</div>
<div class="select_110">
#Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.cType, new SelectList((IEnumerable<Model.cType>)ViewData[ViewDataKeys.cTypes]), "----")
</div>
<div class="margin_top_45">
<input id="submit" type="submit" value="submit" />
</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>
}
If I didn't select any option in the dropdownlist (leaving the optionlabel "----" selected) and I press the submit button, the form will not be posted and the focus will be move to the dropdownlist
if I remove the optional Label, like this:
#Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.cType, new SelectList((IEnumerable)ViewData[ViewDataKeys.cTypes]))
then it will work just fine. I'm thinking if I will put an optional label, does that mean I am required to choose an item? I want the form to be submitted even if I leave the dropdownlist with the optionallabel selected.
thanks in advance!
Do you have a required attribute in your model/viewmoden on cType? I think the clientside validation is kicking in, but because you didn't set a validation helper, you're not seeing the message. The form won't submit though if you select the optional label.
