I have a TableView that i populate with custom cells. In this code i would like to set the data on my different labels, but it doesnt seem to work. I can not add any outlets, not sure why i cant do that. When i try to change the data with cell.textLabel.text = #"Data"; it seems to add a new label instead of changing the text of the current one.
What should i do? Code below shows how i populate the list.
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
SenasteTableCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableHeaderFooterViewWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if(cell == nil)
{
NSArray* views = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:#"SenasteTableCell" owner:nil options:nil];
for (UIView *view in views)
{
cell = (SenasteTableCell*)view;
}
}
return cell;
}
Set a unique tag to the label in customcell and you can get its instance as
UILabel *Label=(UILabel *)[cell viewWithTag:2];//2 is th unique tag value i set in the cell for that label
You can get value for every view objects in the cell like this
Eg
UIButton *sampleButton=(UIButton *)[cell viewWithTag:4];
You should be able to create outlets. If you are using a custom table view cell (which Im assuming SenasteTableCell is) make sure that in the interface builder you click on the cell and set its class to SenasteTableCell. At that point you should be able to control drag from your labels to the file and create outlets.
I think you have not set the FileOwner Property form XIB file.
set fileowner as UITableViewClass and UITableViewCell As SenasteTableCell.
To connect outlets you have to first select SenasteTableCell and there will be a list of oulets.

I have a UIViewController that contains a UITableView. In my table view I have a prototype cell in which I want to place custom labels. I cannot get any of my custom labels to render in the cell. The datasource and tableview delegates are connected and functioning properly. For my first attempt, I dragged a UILabel control onto my prototype cell. I set its tag to 1000. Here is my code to populate the cells:
-(UITableViewCell*)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath{
static NSString *cellID = #"cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellID];
UILabel *customLbl = (UILabel*)[cell viewWithTag:1000];
if(indexPath.section == 0){
[cell.textLabel setText:[rData.currentHeightReadings objectForKey:[heightKeys objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]]];
[customLbl setText:#"CFS"];
} else {
[cell.textLabel setText:[rData.currentFlowReadings objectForKey:[flowKeys objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]]];
[customLbl setText:#"Ft."];
}
return cell;
}
The default textLabel for each cell renders as it should. However, the custom label does not appear. I verified that the prototype cell was actually rendering by changing the background color of the cell's content view. In my story board I have set the prototype cell's reuse identifier to match my code. The style is set to 'Custom.' What else should I be doing? Thanks!
Verify that your autolayout constraints are correct such that the UILabel is really positioned where you expect it.
I had the same issue once and I've solved it by not calling any methods to cell.textLabel property. Just don't set its text in any way.
Try it out and report back.
Try this:
UILabel *customLbl = (UILabel*)[cell.contentView viewWithTag:1000];
I am trying to create a project with a custom UITableViewCell. The custom cells never load, they're just blank. At this point in the project what I'm trying to do is placing a UITableViewCell in a .xib, designing it the way I want and specifying its reuse identifier along with tag IDs for the components so that I can use them in code later on.
I've googled a ton and found several tutorials that look like what I want to do, along with many SO questions that have answers that seem applicable. At this point it's probably just my head spinning with too many different angles and solutions.
This is my current attempt at trying to register the custom cell with my UITableView, yet when running this on a device the rows in the table view are entirely blank.
UITableViewCell* cell = [self.tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"MyCell"];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:#"MyCell"];
}
UILabel* l1 = (UILabel*)[cell viewWithTag:1];
UILabel* l2 = (UILabel*)[cell viewWithTag:2];
UILabel* l3 = (UILabel*)[cell viewWithTag:3];
l1.text = #"Foobar";
l2.text = #"Foobar";
l3.text = #"Foobar";
I'm pretty certain that I've hooked up all the properties and such correctly, but at this stage I need a fresh pair of eyes to point out the facepalm for me.
The interesting files are FilmerView.m/h/xib and the cell is in FilmerViewCell.xib. When running the app this TableView is in the second tab of the tab bar controller.

I can't provide a full answer atm but look up the tableview method. registerNib:forCellReuseIdentifier:
Also, stop using that dequeue method. Use the one that includes the indexPath.
Then you don't have to check if the cell is nil afterwards.
EDIT
In viewDidLoad (or somewhere like that)...
UINib *cellNib = [UINib nibWithNibName:#"MyCustomCellXibFileName" bundle:[NSBundle mainBundle]];
[self.tableView registerNib:cellNib forCellReuseIdentifier:#"CellIdentifier"];
Now in the table view datasource method...
- (UITableViewCell*)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"CellIdentifier" forIndexPath:indexPath];
// no need to check cell == nil.
// this method is guaranteed to return a non nil cell.
// if it doesn't then the program will crash telling you that you need to...
// register a class or nib (but we just did this in viewDidLoad) :D
// configure your cell here...
[self configureMyCell:(MyCustomCell *)cell atIndexPath:indexPath];
return cell;
}
- (void)configureMyCell:(MyCustomCell *)cell atIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
cell.nameLabel.text = #"Hello, world";
}
Hope this helps.
Make sure that you have set datasource and delegate properties of your tableView.
Make sure that you have implemented (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section method and it returns a positive value (>0).
Evaluate the following:
Is the ReuseIdentifier set in the XIB. See Properties Tab in Interface Builder on the right when selecting the cell.
Are the AutoresizingMasks set properly for the labels to be visible?
WrapModes: Which did you select? When having wrapmode WrapWord, is the font size too large for the text to be moved in the next line becoming invisible?
Set the background color of the UITableViewCellss content view to something else than white or transparent, as well as the background colors of the labels to see if the cell is even there.
Manually call numberOfRowsInSection on your table, pass the proper NSIndexPath identifying the target section and see if its greater 0 to confirm that the TableView even attempts to load the data, thus, the cells. ( Alternatively set a breakpoint in the method or do a NSLog. )
Do a NSLog in cellForRowAtIndexPath to confirm that the cell returned is not nil and the method is even called!
I have a problem settings my view elements on a custom cell. The table cells appear in my tableView, but the properties do not set and thus only empty/blank cells appear.
The tableView is not a tableView controller, but only a tableView in a viewController.
I have the following files:
CustomCell.xib:
Here i use IB to build the custom cell by using a Table View Cell from object library with labels and images on. I set the Identifier as orderListCell. From this screen I ctrl+drag to create the outlets in customCell.h
CustomCell.h
Here I see all my IBOutlets as properties from above mentioned file
CustomCell.m
Here I leave as is
OrderListViewController.h
Here I import customCell.h and use protocols UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource
OrderListViewController.m
Here I set my tableView delegate and tableView dataSource to self. I also create an IBOutlet for my tableView from the Storyboard.
I use the following code to try and display my cells:
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView
cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *cellIdentifier = #"orderListCell";
CustomCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
if (!cell) {
cell = [[CustomCell alloc] init];
}
cell.myLabel.text = #"aaaaaaaa"; //[[self.orders objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey: #"tableNo"];
return cell;
}
I have simplified my code a bit to demonstrate that even setting the label to a simple string (#"aaaaaaaa") doesnt work. When I look at the objects in my debugger the cell does have all the properties from the IBOutlets and the cell does appear in my tableView, just the label.text = xxx does not seem to work.
I have looked at the following posts but either dont understand it properly or it does not work for me:
ios 7 customizing UITableViewCell's content view
Can't set properties in Custom UITableViewCell
Set label for a custom cell
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated
cell = [[CustomCell alloc] init]; does not create your cell from the XIB, so none of the XIB content will be created.
Use registerNib:forCellReuseIdentifier: to register the XIB with the table view so that it will create your cell instances for you (you don't need to create instances yourself in cellForRowAtIndexPath).
If you don't want to do that, you can load your NIB explicitly with nibWithNibName:bundle: and instantiateWithOwner:options:, then get the cell instance from the list of returned views (which should only contain 1 item).
Is there an easy way of having a tableview cell like we see here with numbering like this and the border around. Is this created using different sections?
You need to create a custom UITableViewCell.
If you're using storyboards look here:
See this link http://mobile.tutsplus.com/tutorials/iphone/customizing-uitableview-cell/
If not here is a rundown:
Basically create a new class that inherits from UITableViewCell and a XIB. Drag a UITableViewCell to the XIB and set it to the class that you created previously.
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *CustomCellIdentifier = #"CustomCellIdentifier";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:reuseIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
//*- Load your custom XIB. objectAtIndex:0 says load the first item in the XIB. Should be your UITableViewCell that you dragged onto your XIB in Interface Builder.
cell = [[[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:#"CustomCell" owner:self options:nil] objectAtIndex:0];
}
//*- Customize the cell, i.e., cell.myLabel.text = #"Text";
return cell;
}
Using this technique you can layout your cell with three labels, one for the number and one for the name of the song and one for the song time. Add a background image view for the border and color.
A simple way to get the song number in the table is to use the indexpath.
cell.myLabel.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%i", indexPath.row + 1];
I am wanting to create a custom UITableView cell. I would like to know how to do this. I understand how to actually create it and write code for it, but how can i create 1 style and then when i have more cells added, i want the same style. How can i do this? Is there a way to create 1 custom cell and have all the other cells that i want to add later follow this cells style?Thanks for the help!
In my projects I'm implementing method that creates custom style programmatically. Also it is possible to make custom cell via IB and when you need just take custom cell from it.
Don't forget that if you will write your code correctly then your cells will be reused and that method will be called only for number of cells that are visible in your table view.
may be this can help you http://iphone-bitcode.blogspot.com/2011/06/custom-tableview-cell.html
Write a separate .h/.m/.xib for the cell, and in the .xib set File's Owner to the class you want multiple copies of it in (your table view controller class, most likely). Attach it to an IBOutlet you created in the table view controller for new cells.
Then, each time you want a cell, try and dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier: on your tableView, and if that doesn't work (you have no reusable ones), make a new cell using your custom class by simply loading the nib file. It will automatically create an instance of the cell and attach it to your IBOutlet, and then just retain the cell and set the outlet back to nil for the next time you need to create a cell. Essentially, I mean this (I have an IBOutlet UITableViewCell *cellOutlet):
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView
cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *reuseIdentifier = #"CustomCell";
UITableView *cell = [self.tableView
dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:reuseIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
[[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:#"MyCustomTableViewCell"
owner:self options:nil];
cell = cellOutlet;
self.cellOutlet = nil; // autoreleases
cell.reuseIdentifier = reuseIdentifier;
}
// configure the cell here
return cell;
}
