I have a series of data points (UTC date and value) that I need to plot using Highcharts, which by default uses UTC. However, the data can be in different user timezones, so in this example I am setting it to New York. I noticed that even though the tooltip on each of my data points is correct, e.g. those for 10/26, some of them seem to be plotted in the section of the plot corresponding to 10/27. I expect all 9 data points for 10/26 to be plotted before the 10/17 mark. Does anyone see the issue in my code? I have created a JSFIFFLE to illustrate the issue clearly.
var timeZone = 'America/New_York';
var timeZoneOffsetValue = moment(values[0].data[0][0]).tz("America/New_York")._offset;
console.log(timeZoneOffsetValue);
Highcharts.chart('container', {

Note: in my actual code, I have noticed that sometimes when I first load the plot, most of the time the 3 data points are in the 10/27 slot, but if I reload the plot, then sometimes the data points move into the 10/16 date range. This is what makes this more confusing.
I looked around a bit but can't seem to find the exact answer for this.
I'm currently adding some data to highcharts. Essentially, I am using the HighStock column and candlestick chart, and it should suffice for my testing.
The issue is this. I've set up ONE of the two series' to have IDs. I would now like to retrieve an individual point object by calling [something].get("point_0"), which seems like it should be possible but doesn't seem to work. Here is the fiddle for it:
http://jsfiddle.net/mr3ezgh9/
and here is the code:
var chart = null;
$(function () {
$.getJSON('http://www.highcharts.com/samples/data/jsonp.php?filename=aapl-ohlcv.json&callback=?', function (data) {
// split the data set into ohlc and volume
var ohlc = [],
volume = [],
dataLength = data.length,
// set the allowed units for data grouping
groupingUnits = [[
'week', // unit name
[1] // allowed multiples
], [
'month',
[1, 2, 3, 4, 6]
]],
i = 0;
for (i; i < dataLength; i += 1) {
ohlc.push([
data[i][0], // the date
data[i][1], // open
data[i][2], // high
data[i][3], // low
data[i][4] // close
]);
volume.push(
{
name: data[i][0],
x: data[i][0], // the date
y: data[i][5], // the volume
color: "red",
id: "point_" + i
}
);
}
// create the chart
$('#container').highcharts('StockChart', {
rangeSelector: {
selected: 1
},
title: {
text: 'AAPL Historical'
},
yAxis: [{
labels: {
align: 'right',
x: -3
},
title: {
text: 'OHLC'
},
height: '60%',
lineWidth: 2
}, {
labels: {
align: 'right',
x: -3
},
title: {
text: 'Volume'
},
top: '65%',
height: '35%',
offset: 0,
lineWidth: 2
}],
series: [{
type: 'candlestick',
name: 'AAPL',
data: ohlc,
dataGrouping: {
units: groupingUnits
}
}, {
type: 'column',
name: 'Volume',
data: volume,
yAxis: 1,
turboThreshold: Number.MAX_VALUE,
dataGrouping: {
units: groupingUnits
}
}]
});
alert(Highcharts.charts[0].get("point_0"));
});
});
I have tried a few variations on .get("point_0") like getting a series first (but the series doesn't have a get function), setting the chart to a variable and then getting it, and other similar changes, but nothing quite seems to work. Any insight on this?
The general problem is that in the highstock you have enabled datagrouping, so points are groupped and ids are skipped. Disable it and option will work.
plotOptions: {
series: {
dataGrouping: {
enabled: false
}
}
}
Example: http://jsfiddle.net/mr3ezgh9/1/
I've created a line and a bar graph that share the xAxis. But for some reason it chooses to display the value instead of date, even though I am supplying it the standard way.
What am I missing here?

If you added the the "type" to the xAxis definition then the x values will be interpreted as dates and times rather than decimal values
xAxis: {
type : "datetime", //add this line
gridLineWidth: 1,
labels: {
rotation: -45,
align: 'right',
style: {
fontSize: '13px',
fontFamily: 'Verdana, sans-serif'
}
}
},
you may have to fiddle with the start times and intervals to get HighChart to correctly interpret your x-values.
see this demo on the highchart website as an example. http://jsfiddle.net/gh/get/jquery/1.9.1/highslide-software/highcharts.com/tree/master/samples/highcharts/demo/line-time-series/
The reason is that you are not actually creating a Stock chart. Your code looks like:
var chart = new Highcharts.Chart(options);
If you want it to be a Stock chart do:
var chart = new Highcharts.StockChart(options);
A Chart by default is a category chart. StockChart is time-based.
You can use dateFormat to replace time in miliseconds with date.
http://jsfiddle.net/3bE4X/
formatter:function(){
return Highcharts.dateFormat('%d / %m / %Y',this.value);
}
http://api.highcharts.com/highcharts#Highcharts.dateFormat()
