Creating buttons with an Array - ios

I have 44 buttons that I am adding to a scrollview and I was trying to use a series of arrays to do so. I have arrays for the name strings of the filenames, for the Y sizes of the pics (all x's are the same) and a few others.
The code that I have in my viewDidLoad that runs the method is this:
for (int i = 0; i < 44; i++) {
[self makeLabelsAndButtons:i];
}
And the method makeLabelsAndButtons is here:
-(void)makeLabelsAndButtons:(NSInteger *)indexPath{
NSString *nameString = [nameArray objectAtIndex:indexPath];
NSString *picString = [picArray objectAtIndex:indexPath];
NSInteger picNumb = [[numbers objectAtIndex:indexPath] integerValue];
NSInteger picXnum = [[picXCoords objectAtIndex:indexPath] integerValue];
Button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[Button addTarget:self action:#selector(presPressed:)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
Button.frame = CGRectMake(160.0, 240.0, 220.0, picNumb);
Button.center = CGPointMake(picXnum, 200.0);
[Button setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:picString] forState: UIControlStateNormal];
[ScrollView addSubview:Button];
[ScrollView insertSubview:Button atIndex:1];
NSLog(#"name: %#, pic:%#, picY:%i", nameString, picString, picNumb);
}
The buttons are not being added, but I get no errors. I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong
Thanks for any help!
EDIT: This is how I'm initializing my scrollview
ScrollView=[[UIScrollView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0,0,320,480)];
ScrollView.showsVerticalScrollIndicator=YES;
ScrollView.scrollEnabled=YES;
ScrollView.bounces = YES;
ScrollView.userInteractionEnabled=YES;
[self.view addSubview:ScrollView];
[self.view insertSubview:ScrollView atIndex:1];
ScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(20000,480);
Via a system of NSLogs I've determined that the buttons aren't being added to the view and I don't know why.

Change Your code according to following..... it may work
[Button setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:picString] forState: UIControlStateNormal];
Replace above with
NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:#"picString" ofType:#"png"];
[Button setBackgroundImage:[[UIImage alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:path] forState: UIControlStateNormal];

I assume that you have two properties Button and ScrollView declared on your controller.
Rename the property ScrollView to scrollView for readability.
#property (nonatomic, weak) IBOutlet UIScrollView *scrollView;
Delete the property Button because you don't need it.
Update your code:
Button *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(presPressed:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
button.frame = CGRectMake(160.0, 240.0, 220.0, picNumb);
button.center = CGPointMake(picXnum, 200.0);
[button setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:picString] forState: UIControlStateNormal];
[self.scrollView addSubview:button];
You don't need to both add the subview and insert it.
It might be that you weren't allocating ScrollView and sending messages to nil objects will not give you an error. You need to confirm that self.scrollView is not nil, if it is, then check that it is wired up properly in your view.

It seems like your scrollView is horizontally scrollable.
You can try
-(void)addButtonsToScrollView
{
//X Offset for button seperation
CGFloat xOffset = 10.0f;
NSUInteger buttonCount = 0;
//In each iteration buttonFrame would be adjusted to next buttonFrame
//This would be used to find the contentSize of scrollView
CGRect buttonFrame = CGRectMake(xOffset, 240.0, 220.0, 40.0f);
while (buttonCount<44)
{
NSString *nameString = nameArray[buttonCount];
NSString *picString = picArray[buttonCount];
CGFloat picNumb = [numbers[buttonCount] floatValue];
CGFloat picXnum = [picXCoords[buttonCount] floatValue];
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[button addTarget:self
action:#selector(presPressed:)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
buttonFrame.origin.y = (scrollView.frame.size.height - picNumb)/2;
buttonFrame.size.height = picNumb;
button.frame = buttonFrame;
[button setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:picString]
forState: UIControlStateNormal];
[button setTitle:nameString
forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[scrollView addSubview:button];
buttonFrame.origin.x += buttonFrame.size.width+xOffset;
buttonCount++;
}
CGSize contentSize = scrollView.frame.size;
contentSize.width = buttonFrame.origin.x;
scrollView.contentSize = contentSize;
}

Adding multiple UIButtons to an UIView with a selector action

I've added some buttons to an UIView (via addSubview) programmatically. I’ve added to this button an #selector with a function. However, they appear in the view but when I do click, the last button works only.
Into my .h:
#property (nonatomic, strong) UIButton * myButton;
Into my .m
for(int i=0;i<5;i++){
myButton = [UIButton buttonWithType: UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
myButton.frame = CGRectMake(55, 55*i, 30, 30);
myButton.tag = i;
myButton.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor];
[myButton addTarget:self action:#selector(myaction:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[self addSubview:myButton];
}
-(void)myaction:(UIButton *)sender{
if(sender.tag == 0){
NSLog(#“uibutton clicked %ld", (long)sender.tag);
}
}
How do I add the action to all buttons? not for the last only...
This works fine:
- (void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
for(int i=0;i<5;i++){
UIButton *myButton = [UIButton buttonWithType: UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
myButton.frame = CGRectMake(55, 55*i, 30, 30);
myButton.tag = i;
myButton.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor];
[myButton setTitle:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%ld", (long)i] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[myButton addTarget:self action:#selector(myaction:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[self.view addSubview:myButton];
}
}
-(void)myaction:(UIButton *)sender{
NSLog(#"uibutton clicked %ld", (long)sender.tag);
}
The code you posted in your question appears to be "this is what my code looks like" rather than your actual code. That can cause problems when people try to help.
In the future, post your actual code.
Let's make it more dynamic by calculating the height of the button and adding padding based on the number of buttons.
:
-(void)viewDidLoad {
[super viewDidLoad];
NSInteger height = self.frame.size.height - 5*20; // 5 is the button count
and 20 is the padding
NSInteger buttonHeight = height/5;
for(int i=0;i<5;i++){
UIButton *myButton = [UIButton buttonWithType: UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
myButton.frame = CGRectMake(55, buttonHeight*i+padding*(i+1), 150,
buttonHeight);
myButton.tag = i;
myButton.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor];
[myButton setTitle:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%ld", (long)i]
forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[myButton addTarget:self action:#selector(myaction:)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[self.view addSubview:myButton];
}}
-(void)myaction:(UIButton *)sender{
NSLog(#"uibutton clicked %ld", (long)sender.tag);
}
You could make it more dynamic by calculating the height of the button like this:
NSInteger height = self.frame.size.height - 5*20;
NSInteger buttonHeight = height/5;

getting element from array one by one and createbutton

I have a UItextFeild as search bar on clicking a tableview with suggestion open.now i want to click on that row and make a button with its label in below view as described in image .how can i acheive this
I want it one by one means when i click on row it create a button on view and UITableView hide then again i start searching and on again clicking on some other row make a button with different value of X.
_selectednames = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:self.sortedArray.count];
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
// MGContactItemsModel *model = _arrayForContacts[indexPath.row];
self.searchText.text = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#",[_sortedArray objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]];
self.tableView.hidden = YES;
[_selectednames addObject:_searchText.text];
for (int i; i < _selectednames.count ; i++) {
[self makeLabelsAndButtons:i];
}
now in my makeLabelsAndButtons funtion i done something like this
CGFloat xOffset = 10.0f;
int buttonCount = 0;
CGRect buttonFrame = CGRectMake(xOffset, 10.0, 50.0, 15.0);
NSString *nameString = [self.selectednames objectAtIndex:indexPath];
UIButton *_button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
[_button addTarget:self action:#selector(buttonClicked:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
//_button.frame = CGRectMake(xOffset, 10.0, 50.0, 15.0);
for(int i=buttonCount; i >0;i++) {
xOffset = xOffset+10;
buttonFrame.origin.x += buttonFrame.size.width+xOffset;
}
_button.frame = buttonFrame;
buttonCount++;
_button.tag = indexPath;
//button.center = CGPointMake(xOffset, 10.0f);
//[button setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:picString] forState: UIControlStateNormal];
[_button setTitle:self.selectednames[indexPath] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
_button.backgroundColor = [UIColor lightGrayColor];
_button.titleLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName:#"Arial" size:8.0f];
_button.layer.cornerRadius = 10.0f;
_button.layer.masksToBounds = YES;
[self.buttonView addSubview:_button];
NSLog(#"name: %#", nameString);
also on clicking button it will removed.any help would be thankful.
It works for me.Please try it.

}
It may helps to you.Thank you
You can use UICollectionView to create buttons. All you need to do is
1. Create custom cell with button as you want
2. When you tap on table view cell, add item to array and reload UICollectionView
3. Show buttons and it will automatically add scrollview for you.
When you tap on UICollectionView cell, remove object from array and reload UICollectionView again.
This will more easy as compared to adding buttons and setting frames.
And design UICollectionView cell in such way that it will same length as your text, use NSLayoutConstraints for it. It will work fast and smooth.
Code will be minimum and reusable.
Try out this working code...
Take UIScrollView in your Xib for buttons
//Adding menu buttons
btnArray = #[#"SYMPTOMATIC", #"SOCIAL", #"VOCATIONAL", #"PERSONAL"];
[self addButtonsInScrollMenu:btnArray];
/**
* Add Menu Buttons in Menu Scroll View
*
* #param buttonArray Array containing all menu button title
*/
#pragma mark - Add Menu Buttons in Menu Scroll View
-(void) addButtonsInScrollMenu:(NSArray *)buttonArray
{
CGFloat buttonHeight = self.menuScrollView.frame.size.height;
CGFloat cWidth = 0.0f;
for (int i = 0 ; i<buttonArray.count; i++)
{
NSString *tagTitle = [buttonArray objectAtIndex:i];
CGFloat buttonWidth = [self widthForMenuTitle:tagTitle buttonEdgeInsets:kDefaultEdgeInsets];
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
button.frame = CGRectMake(cWidth, 0.0f, buttonWidth, buttonHeight);
[button setTitle:tagTitle forState:UIControlStateNormal];
button.titleLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName:#"Roboto-Regular" size:12.0f];
[button setTitleColor:[UIColor blackColor] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
//[button setTitleColor:[UIColor lightGrayColor] forState:UIControlStateSelected];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(buttonPressed:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
button.tag = i;
[self.menuScrollView addSubview:button];
UIView *bottomView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, button.frame.size.height - kButtonBorderHeight, button.frame.size.width, kButtonBorderHeight)];
bottomView.backgroundColor = [UIColor darkTextColor];
bottomView.tag = 1001;
[button addSubview:bottomView];
if (i == 0)
{
button.selected = YES;
[bottomView setHidden:NO];
}
else
{
[bottomView setHidden:YES];
}
cWidth += buttonWidth;
}
NSLog(#"scroll menu width->%f",cWidth);
self.menuScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(cWidth, self.menuScrollView.frame.size.height);
}

UIScrollView needs to get bigger every time I add a button

The scrollView is created in my storyboard and is horizontal. Here is the method where I add a button for every loop and need to increase the size of the scrollView every time a button is added.
- (void) populateGroups {
NSInteger x = [self.groupNameArray count];
for (int i = 0; i < x; i++) {
NSString *name = [self.groupNameArray objectAtIndex:i];
// Create Button
UIButton *button = [[UIButton alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(count, 0, 100, 54)];
[button setTitle:name forState:UIControlStateNormal];
button.titleLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:10];
[button.layer setBorderWidth:1.0f];
[button.layer setBorderColor:[UIColor whiteColor].CGColor];
[button setTitleColor:[UIColor whiteColor] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(groupPage:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
button.tag = i;
[self.groupScrollView addSubview:button];
count = count + 100;
// Increase ScrollViewSize
self.groupScrollView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, frameWidth, 80);
frameWidth = frameWidth + 100;
}
}
The scrollView stays the same when I try to add two buttons to the view.
you have to increase the content size of the scroll view like:
self.groupScrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(frameWidth, 80);
and better to do it after the loop.

create horizontal scrolling UIButton in iOS using UIScrollView in ios 7

I'm new to ios development now want give a horizontal scrolling button in my app i dont no wt is the correct method to do it can any pls tell how to make it
this is the code i have tried to create a uibutton horizontal pro grammatically but its now working its throughing a warning
undeclared selector newView
i dont know wt i have to code in newview to make the button scroll im using more than four button i want all the buttons to be scroll in horizontal but i not able to make i have tried to create using one button
this is the code i have used in the view didload
UIScrollView *scrollview =[[UIScrollView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 480)];
scrollview.showsHorizontalScrollIndicator=YES;
scrollview.userInteractionEnabled=YES;
scrollview.scrollEnabled=YES;
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(newView:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown];
[button setTitle:#"Excavations" forState:UIControlStateNormal];
button.frame = CGRectMake(80.0, 210.0, 160.0, 40.0);
[self.view addSubview:scrollview];
scrollview.contentSize = CGSizeMake(320,960);
can any one pls tell me wt is the right way to make the horizontal scroll wheather i have use the uiscorllview and buttons in my storyboard and how to make into scroll the buttons
i have no idea to make im very confused by seening many tutorial sampel like thisone link
Follow my code:
CGFloat btnX = 80.0;
int numberOfButton = 10;
for (int i = 1 ; i <= numberOfButton; i++)
{
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(newView:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown];
button.tag = i;
[button setTitle:#"Excavations" forState:UIControlStateNormal];
button.frame = CGRectMake(80.0, 210.0, 160.0, 40.0);
[scrollview addSubView:button];
btnX = btnX + 165.0;
}
scrollview.contentSize = CGSizeMake(btnX + 50, yourHeight);
Your warning says that you forgot to add method of your UIButton, so you need to declare method of button, such like..
-(void) newView:(UIButton *) sender
{
//you can access your button by it's tag.
}
- (void)createScrollViewMenu
{
UIScrollView *scrollView = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, self.view.frame.size.width, 100)];
int x = 0;
for (int i = 0; i < 10; i++) {
UIButton *button = [[UIButton alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(x, 0, 100, 100)];
[button setTitle:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"NameOfBtn %d", i] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(BtnClicked:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown];
button.tag = i;
[scrollView addSubview:button];
x += button.frame.size.width;
}
scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(x, scrollView.frame.size.height);
scrollView.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor];
[self.view addSubview:scrollView];
}
This will create a scrollview with a height of 100, width as big as its parent, and add 10 buttons to it.
so you need to declare method of button, such like..
-(void)BtnClicked:(UIButton *) sender
{
//you can access your button by it's tag.
}

UIScrollView with a large number of UIButtons

What I want is a UIView with lots of UIButtons in it. They get placed and arranged according to data stored in an NSArray. Because there are quite a lot of buttons they don't fit on the screen all at once. The user should be able to zoom out to see all the buttons or to zoom in to see details (the label on them) and to easily select them.
I tried two different approaches:
1) I constructed a UIView subclass, put the buttons in it and an instance of this View inside a UIScrollview.
Effect: I can access all Buttons via their tag and scrolling and zooming works fine. BUT I can't get the buttons to handle any events (press on them)...
2) I wrote a UIViewController with exactly the same functionality and added an instance of it to the UIScrollView.
Effect: I can press the buttons now, but scrolling and zooming have stopped to work.
Here the relevant Code of the View:
- (UIView *)initWithArray:(NSArray *)nArray{
self = [super init];
if (self) {
int count = [nArray count];
for (int i=0; i<count; i++) {
UIButton *button = [[UIButton alloc]
initWithFrame:(__some Code to place the Button__);
button.tag = i+1;
NSString *title = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:__code for generating Title__];
[button setTitle:title forState:UIControlStateNormal];
button.titleLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:14];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(buttonPressed:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown];
[self addSubview:button];
}
}
return self;
}
And the Code for the matrixController:
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
NSMutableArray *nArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] __some code___];
int count = [nArray count];
for (int i=0; i<count; i++) {
UIButton *button = [[UIButton alloc]
initWithFrame:CGRectMake(__some Code to place the Button__];
button.tag = i+1;
NSString *title = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:__code for generating Title__];
[button setTitle:title forState:UIControlStateNormal];
button.titleLabel.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:14];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(buttonPressed:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchDown];
[self.view addSubview:button];
}
}
And the code for the ScrollViewController:
UIScrollView *scrollView = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 768, 970)];
[self.view addSubview:scrollView];
[scrollView setBackgroundColor:[UIColor blackColor]];
//Zooming
[scrollView setMinimumZoomScale:0.25];
[scrollView setMaximumZoomScale:4.0];
[scrollView setDelegate:self];
// constructing the view
[scrollView addSubview:chartView];
[scrollView bringSubviewToFront:chartView];
OR
[scrollView addSubview:[matrixController view]];
How can I get this to work??
I'm able to get a scroll view containing multiple buttons to pan and zoom just fine, with the buttons still handling touch events:
- (void)didTapButton:(UIButton *)button
{
NSLog(#"Button %ld", (long)button.tag);
}
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
UIScrollView *scrollView = [[UIScrollView alloc] initWithFrame:self.view.bounds];
scrollView.delegate = self;
scrollView.contentSize = CGSizeMake(scrollView.frame.size.width * 3.0f, scrollView.frame.size.height * 3.0f);
scrollView.maximumZoomScale = 3.0f;
UIView *zoomView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0.0f, 0.0f, scrollView.contentSize.width, scrollView.contentSize.height)];
zoomView.backgroundColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
for (NSInteger index = 0; index < 100; index++)
{
UIButton *button = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeRoundedRect];
button.frame = CGRectMake((scrollView.frame.size.width / 2.0f) - 50.0f, 10.0f + (50.0f * (CGFloat)index), 100.0f, 30.0f);
button.tag = index;
[button setTitle:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"Button %ld", ((long)index + 1)] forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[button addTarget:self action:#selector(didTapButton:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
[zoomView addSubview:button];
}
[scrollView addSubview:zoomView];
[self.view addSubview:scrollView];
}
- (UIView *)viewForZoomingInScrollView:(UIScrollView *)scrollView
{
return [scrollView.subviews objectAtIndex:0];
}
EDIT: I said not to rely on tag in my comment below, yet I'm doing in here. :) It's merely so I could log the button number, so that part should be ignored.
for (int i=0; i<10; i++)
{
UIButton *scrollingbutton_outlet = [[UIButton alloc] init];
scrollingbutton_outlet = [UIButton buttonWithType:UIButtonTypeCustom];
UIImage *img = [UIImage imageNamed:#"box_normal.png"];
scrollingbutton_outlet.frame = CGRectMake(0, 100, img.size.width, img.size.height);
[scrollingbutton_outlet setTitle:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d",i+1] forState: UIControlStateNormal];
scrollingbutton_outlet.tag=i+1;
[buttonArray addObject:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%d",i+1]];
buttonArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init];
[scrollingbutton_outlet setBackgroundImage:img forState:UIControlStateNormal];
[scrollingbutton_outlet addTarget:self
action:#selector(scrollbuttonpress:)
forControlEvents:UIControlEventTouchUpInside];
scrollingbutton_outlet.frame = CGRectMake(img.size.width*i,0, img.size.width, scrollviewoutlet.frame.size.height);
[scrollviewoutlet addSubview:scrollingbutton_outlet];
width = scrollingbutton_outlet.frame.size.width;
height = scrollingbutton_outlet.frame.size.height;
scrollviewoutlet.contentSize = CGSizeMake(width*i+scrollingbutton_outlet.bounds.size.width+5, height);
}
