I'm trying to use Google OpenID with an MVC 4 app hosted on Azure & it keeps failing. Not straight away though. When I deploy the app, it all works perfectly time after time. I then leave it for some amount of time, usually a day, but could be an hour & then try again & it fails everytime. You then refresh, go back to the homepage, which sends you to the login page & it works again.
the error is :

I have not added anything extra to the web.config, other than the proxy config settings recommended elsewhere. Doesn't seem to make any difference.
<defaultProxy enabled="true">
<proxy autoDetect="True" usesystemdefault="True" />
</defaultProxy>
I'm using the latest 4.2.2 packages from nuget.
So it looks like by increasing the timeouts made it work, as suggested here. I set my values higher as suggested, but obviously you can test for the most appropriate values.
I also changed my code. You'll notice above the class contains a static variable for the replying party. I changed this to be an instance variable as I could see no reason to use this pattern. The sample code for DotNetOpenAuth doesn't use static instances for the Replying Party class either.
Unless anyone can suggest why having it as a static might be a good idea, I'll leave it as is.

After a whole day trying dozen of solutions I'm really stuck here. I get the infamous Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts error. It's a very generic error so I already tried a few things. First some details that hopefully will help:
I'm using:
Entity Framework 6
ASP.NET MVC 5
MySQL with MySQL Connector 6.8.3
Everything works when I run the application in Visual Studio 2013. It connects to the MySQL server with no problems, so i suppose there's nothing wrong with my connectionstring. However when I deploy my application I get this error. I thought it was maybe because my shared hosting trust level was set on Medium, however I contacted my hosting provider and they said it was set on Full. Pages that don't use the database are rendered properly.
Here's the stack trace of the error:

After another few hours, I found the solution. It's a rather specific one but maybe there are others in the same situation.
I'm on a shared hosting environment and had two different credentials to access the database, one for accessing remotely and one for accessing from the server. Seems that the credentials for the remote connectioning didn't work on the server, therefore everything worked in Visual Studio but once deployed I had to use the other credentials. I assumed the remote credentials would also work on the server but they didn't.
Thanks to #Jenthe, that give me an idea.
For who is trying to acess the RDS database on Amazon AWS and is getting trouble, most likely you need to create a security group to the database, what I have did and worked was:
1) Go to https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/v2/
2) On left click on Security Groups
3) Create Security Group
4) Configure security group with the port of your database (in my case 3306, mysql)
5) Go to your database instance > Instance Actions > Modify
6) On "Security group", add the security group that you just created
7) Go to Continue and Apply immediately
I am getting the error
SqlException (0x80131904): Login failed for user 'raam030'
for my ASP.NET MVC4 application. Works fine on my development machine using local SQL Server but when I deployed it to the web hosting this is what I am getting. I have searched for same questions, there are many but none of them helped me so far.
I have the stack trace below, I triple-checked and made sure my connection string is correct and SQL Server authentication is correct. Though my hosting services connection string does not require password information I tried variations without and with hard coded password and user name.
<connectionStrings>
<add name="RMSDelta"
connectionString="Data Source=mssql2.openhost.net.nz;Integrated Security=False;User ID=myusername; Password=mypassword;Connect Timeout=15;Encrypt=False;Network Library=dbmssocn;Packet Size=4096"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
I am using code first approach. My database name is the same I used as connection string name, same name used to pass as connection string in my context class. Made sure the provider name is correct. Except the data access part (and page which needed data) every other page works fine with my application.. I am not really sure what else to make out of this stack trace??
Please help me.

How silly things are sometimes... It seems my hosting company somehow requires a password with more than 6 characters to authenticate into sql server, I was using 4 character password earlier when I used a longer one it did work, however the hosting providers Plesk panel accepts the password with 4 characters when I set up the account!!!. I had to spend half my day fiddling with this thing, I am gonna shoot an email right now asking why they don't display any caution about this... Thanks friends..
I've created a site based on the ASP.NET MVC 4 Web Application. I have enabled the OpenAuth login providers for Twitter, Facebook and Google by following the instructions in AuthConfig.cs.
This works fine when the site is debugged on my local machine from Visual Studio on IIS Express. However, when I copy the site over to another machine, the entire site works fince, except anything that uses open auth.
On this machine I can access twitter, facebook and google using the browser.
When I try to log on using my site I get:

PS. It's worth mentioning that we access the internet via a proxy, which is set up on the server in IE. I haven't found any code in the provided templates that let me specify proxy servers etc.
Help please.
I think I was able to resolve this issue. It turns out that our proxy server seems to have been the issue. I had the Application pool that was running this site in IIS configured to use NetworkServices as the Application Pool Identity. I changed the Identity to run as myself to see if the problem was resolved and it was. It's obviously not recommended to have a site run as a user account, so I will be requesting our IT team to create a domain account for this site, that also has access through our proxy servers.
I hope that helps someone else having the same problem.
I have a web application that is not giving me any problems on my computer, but when I deploy it to the server I get this error. It doesn't give me any source code lines to check and I don't have any idea why it may be happening

I run into the same issue. Unfortunately the stack trace isn't very helpful in this case. The exception is happening for sure in the view, what it was in my case:
#Model.SomeProperty.Trim()
And Model.SomeProperty was null. As there is no way how to debug it; I recommend binary split approach:
save your view somewhere else
remove one-by-one logical parts from your view
after each removal save your view and retest
if the exception is no longer reproducible, the NullReferenceException happened in the block you've removed; so add it back and remove logical parts inside this block until you isolate the line causing an exception
Its lame I know, but I found no other way - btw. this is what I got for doing controller job in view.
Go to line 0 of your source file at:
c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root\a9dc635c\ccb3814\App_Web_item.cshtml.f0356b3c.uyw8roer.0.cs
Then, use this to pin-point where exactly the exception happens in your code block:
try
{
...
}
catch (NullReferenceException ex)
{
ShowMessageBox("Error" + ex.Message);
}
Check that:
You've initiated the variables that you're manipulating.
Variables that you're using have not become null since deploying it to the server.
You are not using variables outside of your scope.
I'm using ASP.NET MVC 3 and have learnt through the MVC Music Store and other sources. I was able to create a database and have it live but the weird thing was about 5 hours after it was live it went down and had the following error and stack trace:
Note: This also seems to be the case whenever I publish the site. I have to go and delete the database manually for it to re create it and then it will work. But now that I'm live I can't do that because data is already being stored in there that I don't want to redo.

I've tried many things but still cannot figure out why it does this. I do have a database initialize.
System.Data.Entity.Database.SetInitializer<MobileEntities>(new SampleData());
public class SampleData : CreateDatabaseIfNotExists<MobileEntities>
The code that runs when I try to access the db is the following:
public ActionResult ViewLeaderboards(int gameId)
{
var leaderboards = from u in mobileDB.Scores
where u.GameId == gameId
select u;
return View(leaderboards.OrderByDescending(u => u.Score).ToList());
}
When publishing you need to be sure to REMOVE the Initializer from the Global.asax. The Initializer is only for populating test data, and should not be in use during production. I also remember reading somewhere that setting the Initializer to null might work.
Database.SetInitializer<MyContext>(null);
Or just comment out the line where you call SetInitializer before publishing. I also exclude my Initializer class from the project before publishing.
The default strategy for Code First contexts is an instance of CreateDatabaseIfNotExists.
So it is necessary to include the
Database.SetInitializer<MyContext>(null);
so that the default initializer is not called which might then give an error!
Also, it is necessary to include the generic tag when setting it to null or the compiler will give an error.
