I have two different controllers (scholarships_controller, scholarships_browse_controller) that look at the scholarship model. I want my Ransack search function to show the search results on the current page. So, for example, if I am on /scholarships_browse and I use the search functionality, I want it to use the scholarships_browse_controller and show the results on /scholarships_browse.
Currently, if I search on /scholarships_browse it uses the scholarships_controller and redirects to /scholarships to show the results (instead of /scholarships_browse).
Code for ScholarshipsBrowseController and ScholarshipsController
def index
#search = Scholarship.search(params[:q])
#scholarships = #search.result.page(params[:page]).per(3) #allows 3 scholarships on a page at a time
#search.build_condition
respond_to do |format|
format.html # index.html.erb
format.json { render json: #scholarships }
end
end
Code for scholarships browse index.html.erb:
<%= search_form_for #search do |f| %>
<%= f.condition_fields do |c| %>
<div class="field">
<%= c.attribute_fields do |a| %>
<%= a.attribute_select %>
<% end %>
<%= c.predicate_select compounds: false, only: [:cont, :eq, :gt, :lt] %>
<%= c.value_fields do |v| %>
<%= v.text_field :value %>
<% end %>
</div>
<% end %>
<div class="actions"><%= f.submit "Search" %></div>
<% end %>
So, I guess specifically I'm asking how do I make sure I am using the ScholarshipsBrowseController index instead of ScholarshipsController index when I am on /scholarships_browse ?
On your view:
<%= search_form_for #search, url: RAILS_ROUTEHERE do |f| %>
...
<%- end %>
search_form_for its an extension for form_for, so you can use the :url parameter to tell the form what should be the action of it (you can check the page source code when you render it on browser, you can check the tag <form action=""> to make sure it points to the right route.

I tried to make an edit for ruby on rails, but it shows me the argument error about the edit. I am confused about this question.
Then, I have tried to put the different argument into index.html.erb However, it still does not work. For example m.id and m
This is index.html.erb
<% #methodtypes.each do|m| %>
<tr>
<td><%=m.name %></td>
<td><%=m.desp %></td>
</tr>
<%= link_to "Edit", edit_method_types_path(m.id) %>
<% end %>
<%= link_to "Create Method", new_method_types_path %>
This is my controller file:
class MethodTypesController < ApplicationController
def index
#methodtypes = MethodType.all
end
def show
#methodtype = MethodType.find_by_id(params[:id])
end
def create
#methodtype = MethodType.new(method_params)
#methodtype.save
if #methodtype.save
redirect_to method_types_path
else
render :new
end
end
def edit
#methodtype = MethodType.find_by_id(params[:id])
end
def new
#methodtype = MethodType.new
end
private
def method_params
params.require(:method_type).permit(:name, :desp)
end
This is my edit page which is edit.html.erb:
<%= form_for #methodtype do |f| %>
<div>
<%= f.label :name %>
<%= f.text_area :name %>
</div>
<div>
<%= f.label :desp %>
<%= f.text_field :desp %>
</div>
<%= f.submit %>
<% end %>
The result should show that I can edit my text. but, it shows the ArgumentError in MethodTypes#edit. Does someone can give me some suggestion, I do not know how to fix that.....
Wrong edit url path
It should be <%= link_to "Edit", edit_method_type_path(m.id) %> instead of <%= link_to "Edit", edit_method_types_path(m.id) %>
Also check your routes file It seems you are defining
resource: method_types
Change to
resources: method_types
<%= link_to "Edit", edit_method_types_path(m.id) %> should be <%= link_to "Edit", edit_method_type_path(m) %>, note that type is in singular.
Run rails routes -g method_type to confirm it.
Also, change the MethodType.find_by_id(params[:id]) to MethodType.find(params[:id]) in the controller.
Btw, you are calling save twice in your create method:
def create
#methodtype = MethodType.new(method_params)
#methodtype.save # delete this line
if #methodtype.save
redirect_to method_types_path
else
render :new
end
end
I have been trying to implement the Ransack search gem into a project I am currently working on. I am pretty sure that I have it set up correctly. I want to be able to search profiles and have placed my code in the profiles controller like so:
def index
#q = Profile.search(params[:q])
#profile = #q.result(distinct: true)
#profiles = Profile.all
end
And the profile index.html.erb file like so:
<%= search_form_for #q do |f| %>
<div class="field">
<%= f.label :first_name_cont, "Name Contains" %>
<%= f.search_field :first_name_cont %>
</div>
<div class="actions"><%= f.submit "Search" %></div>
<% end %>
It does at the least appear to be attempting to search database correctly but just wont render any results on screen. It might be something obvious I am just not seeing. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Try a set up like this in your controller and view:
#profile controller
def index
#search = Profile.search(params[:q])
#profiles = #search.result(distinct: true)
end
#profile index
<%= search_form_for #search do |f| %>
<%= f.label :first_name_cont, "name in profile" %><br>
<%= f.submit "Search", class:"btn btn-info btn-block" %>
<% end %>
<% #profiles.each do |profile| %>
<%= profile.name %>
<% end %>
Is the problem when you try to access #profile or just is it with knowing how to display results? If the latter, right now they are being stored in #profile so you need to loop through them and choose what you want to show from each profile instance.
From when I've used this gem it seems it defaults to the index page of the given class (so in your case, the profile index page). So you can either:
Just let the results list below the search form you shared above.
Move the search bar to something like a homepages controller so when a search is made it'll go to the profile index page and only show the results.
So I have an interesting problem I'm working on. I am trying to create multiple objects of the same model in one view. I would like to display all the possible objects in my view, check boxes to select which ones to create, then submit and create all the corresponding objects.
Now the objects to select are gotten using an API request and returned in JSON format. The JSON is then displayed on the view for the user to select, then an array containing all the selected objects is sent back to the controller for creation.
Here is the relevant code that I've tried so far.
objects_controller.rb
def new
#possible_objects = <api call to get objs>
#objects = []
end
def create
params[:objects].each do |obj|
# create and save obj
end
end
objects/new.html.erb
<% form_for #objects do |f| %>
<% #possible_objects.each do |api_obj| %>
<%= check_box_tag(api_obj["name"])%>
<%= api_obj["name"] %>
<% end %>
<%= f.submit %>
<% end %>
This is definitely not the right approach, as the form will not accept an empty array as a parameter. I'm not sure where else to go with this, any pointers in the right direction would be great. Thanks.
Thanks to MrYoshiji for pointing me in the right direction, this is what ended up working
objects_controller.rb
def
#possible_objects = <api call to get objs>
end
def create
params[:objects].each do |object|
new_obj = Object_Model.new( <params> )
new_obj.save
if !new_obj.save
redirect_to <path>, alert: new_obj.errors.full_messages and return
end
end
redirect_to <path>, notice: 'Successfully created.'
end
objects/new.html.erb
<%= form_tag objects_path(method: :post) do %>
<% #possible_objects.each do |api_obj| %>
<%= check_box_tag 'objects[]', api_obj %>
<%= possible_object["name"] %>
<% end %>
<%= submit_tag 'Create'%>
<% end %>
Can you try the following?
# view
<% form_tag my_objects_path(method: :post) do |f| %>
<% #possible_objects.each do |api_obj| %>
<%= check_box_tag 'objects[names][]', api_obj["name"] %>
<%= api_obj["name"] %>
<% end %>
<%= f.submit %>
<% end %>
# controller
def create
params[:objects][:names].each do |obj_name|
YourModelForObject.create(name: obj_name)
end
end
See this comment on the documentation of check_box_tag: http://apidock.com/rails/ActionView/Helpers/FormTagHelper/check_box_tag#64-Pass-id-collections-with-check-box-tags
I tried to set up a form which I wanted it to move to members#index.
But with the code①, I failed and the form moved to members#show.
☆code①
<%= form_tag :action => 'index' do %>
<div class = "field">
<%= label_tag 'place', '活動場所:' %><br />
<%= text_field_tag 'place' %>
</div>
<%= submit_tag '検索' %>
<% end %>
And I got some advice and fixed the code②.
I have a question. Why did I have to change the method from "post" to "get"?
☆code2
<div class= "form_index">
<%= form_tag({:action=>"index"}, {:method=>"get"}) do %>
<div class="from_field_index">
<%= label_tag 'place', '場所:' %>
<%= text_field_tag 'place' %>
</div>
<div class="search_button">
<%= submit_tag '検索' %>
<% end %>
</div>
</div>
☆members_controller
def index
if params[:place].present?
#members = Member.where("place like ?" , "%" + params[:place] + "%")
else
#members = Member.all
end
respond_to do |format|
format.html # index.html.erb
format.json
end
end
GET implies to retrieve something from server. POST implies to add something to server.
Search will get some results from server, so the conventional way is to use GET on this action. Search form is the perfect example of form using GET.
Also, your controller action index responds to 'GET' only, defined by default resource route. It also need the request sent by your client side to be 'GET'.
Another benefit of using GET on search is, the params will be in url so the url is bookmarkable, shareable and history nagivatable. Think about Google, you can share a search result by just copying the link.
I am new to rails so sorry if sometimes I don't make much sense. Here is what I am trying to do. I am trying to build a vote system. So next to a blog post there is a link that says 'vote' (will probably say like later). So far I have working: when the vote button is clicked, a value of '1' is delivered to the vote table and then that particular posts vote records display beneath the vote via AJAX (I copied a comment functionality). Instead of rendering all the number '1's below, I want it to render the updated count.
My vote table has the columns 'vote' and 'post_id' that are successfully being entered. My thinking was that I could just change my partial template to do this. Here is the code:
votes_controller:
class VotesController < ApplicationController
def create
#post = Post.find(params[:post_id])
#vote = #post.votes.create!(params[:vote])
respond_to do |format|
format.html { redirect_to #post}
format.js
end
end
end
def count
#post = Post.find(params[:post_id])
#vote = calculate :count
respond_to do |format|
format.html { redirect_to #post}
format.js
end
end
end
Here is the page where is is showing, /posts/show.html.erb:
<div id="backto"<%= link_to 'Back to all BattleCries', posts_path %></div>
<%= render :partial => #post %><br/>
<p5>Add a Comment</p5>
<div id="belt">
<div id="belttext">
<% remote_form_for [#post, Comment.new] do |f| %>
<p>
<%= f.text_area ( :body, :class => "commentarea") %>
</p>
<%= f.submit "Add Comment"%>
<% end %>
</div>
<div id="beltbottom">
</div>
</div><br/>
<br/><p5>Comment Stream </p5>
<div id="comments">
<%= render :partial => #post.comments %>
</div>
<p>
<% remote_form_for [#post, Vote.new] do |f| %>
<p>
<%= f.hidden_field :vote, :value => '1' %>
</p>
<%= f.submit "Vote" %>
<% end %>
<div id="vote">
<div id="votes">
<%= render :partial => #post.votes %>
</div>
</div>
</p>
Here is the :partial, /votes/_vote.html.erb: (this is where I thought I would just need to change it to vote.count, or post.count or something but can't get it to work).
<% div_for vote do %>
<%= h(vote.vote) %>
<% end %>
Here is the /votes/create.js.rjs file:
page.insert_html :bottom, :votes, :partial => #vote
page[#vote].visual_effect :highlight
I hope that all makes sense.
I think it's repeating because your .rjs is "inserting at the bottom" of the div instead of "replacing" ... you probably want page.replace_html
It would be better to have a DIV or SPAN tag that contains the number of votes for a post ... then have your .rjs file update the DIV's inner_html with the number of votes (which would be #post.votes.count) ... I don't think you really need a partial.
You probably want:
<%= #post.votes.count %>
You also probably want to use replace instead of insert_html - does that make sense? Insert is just adding more elements to the DOM whereas replace will replace the element.
