Can't get views by averageViewDuration — YouTube Analytics API - ruby-on-rails

So I'm using the 'google-api-client' gem with Rails, and I'm attempting to call the URL below in order to get video views by averageViewDuration. This is a call that appears to be allowable from the Available Reports documentation page.
Additionally, I found that I was able to make this call by using the API Explorer tool provided by Google.
URL:
https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/analytics/v1beta1/reports?metrics=averageViewDuration&ids=channel==CHANNEL_ID&dimensions=day&filter=video==VIDEO_ID&start-date=2013-01-15&end-date=2013-01-16&start-time=1970-01-01
Result:
{
:error=>
{
"errors"=>[
{
"domain"=>"global",
"reason"=>"invalid",
"message"=>"Unknown identifier (averageViewDuration) given in field parameters.metrics."
}
],
"code"=>400,
"message"=>"Unknown identifier (averageViewDuration) given in field parameters.metrics."
}
}
I'm not sure what extra data I can provide in the initial description of this bug, but as stated before I am making the call to the API with the Google::APIClient Ruby library. The actual code itself looks like this:
client.execute(
:api_method => api.reports.query,
:parameters => options
)

Could you try that again with v1 as the version instead of v1beta1?
Also, you have a start-time parameter at the end of your request URL, and that's not a valid parameter.
I just gave a similar query with those changes a try and it works.

Can't get views by insightTrafficSourceType — YouTube Analytics API

So I'm using the 'google-api-client' gem with Rails, and I'm attempting to call the URL below in order to get video views by day and insightTrafficSourceType. This is a call that appears to be allowable from the Available Reports documentation page.

You are still referencing the old beta API, i.e., in your URL, you have 'v1beta' and you should have 'v1' there. Try replacing that and running it again. Also, you can look at the api explorer to see the exact URL that should be generated in live examples with your acct (once you enable OAuth) here:
https://developers.google.com/youtube/analytics/v1/
(Look at the bottom of the page.)
Finally, start-time isn't a parameter listed on the production version of the API, so you will want to remove that as well.

Can't get views by insightPlaybackLocationType — YouTube Analytics API

So I'm using the 'google-api-client' gem with Rails, and I'm attempting to call the URL below in order to get video views by insightPlaybackLocationType. This is a call that appears to be allowable from the Available Reports documentation page.
Unfortunately, I found that I was not able to make this call by using the API Explorer tool provided by Google.
URL:
https://www.googleapis.com/youtube/analytics/v1beta1/reports?metrics=views&ids=channel==CHANNEL_ID&dimensions=day,insightPlaybackLocationType&filter=video==VIDEO_ID&start-date=2013-01-15&end-date=2013-01-16&start-time=1970-01-01

You'll need to set the version to v1 not v1beta1.
The start-time parameter seems wrong to me. You already specified start-date

How to Add Tag via Asana API

I am trying to do a simple Salesforce-Asana integration. I have many functions working, but I am having trouble with adding a tag to a workspace. Since I can't find documentation on the addTag method, I'm sort of guessing at what is required.
If I post the following JSON to https://app.asana.com/api/1.0/workspaces/WORKSPACEID/tasks:
{"data":{"name":"MyTagName","notes":"Test Notes"}}
The tag gets created in Asana, but with blank notes and name fields. If I try to get a bit more fancy and post:
{"data":{"name":"MyTagName","notes":"Test Notes","followers":[{"id":"MY_USER_ID"}]}}
I receive:
{"errors":[{"message":"Invalid field: {\"data\":{\"name\":\"MyTagName\",\"notes\":\"Test Notes\",\"followers\":[{\"id\":\"MY_USER_ID\"}]}}"}]}
I'm thinking the backslashes may mean that my request is being modified by the post, though debug output shows a properly formatted json string before the post.
Sample Code:
JSONGenerator jsongen = JSON.createGenerator(false);
jsongen.writeStartObject();
jsongen.writeFieldName('data');
jsongen.writeStartObject();
jsongen.writeStringField('name', 'MyTagName');
jsongen.writeStringField('notes', 'Test Notes');
jsongen.writeFieldName('followers');
jsongen.writeStartArray();
jsongen.writeStartObject();
jsongen.writeStringField('id', 'MY_USER_ID');
jsongen.writeEndObject();
jsongen.writeEndArray();
jsongen.writeEndObject();
jsongen.writeEndObject();
String requestbody = jsongen.getAsString();
HttpRequest req = new HttpRequest();
req.setEndpoint('https://app.asana.com/api/1.0/workspaces/WORKSPACEID/tags');
req.setMethod('POST');
//===Auth header created here - working fine===
req.setBody(requestbody);
Http http = new Http();
HTTPResponse res = http.send(req);
return res.getBody();
Any help appreciated. I am inexperienced using JSON as well as the Asana API.
The problem was that I was posting to the wrong endpoint. Instead of workspaces/workspaceid/tags, I should have been using /tags and including workspaceid in the body of the request.
Aha, so you can add tags and even set followers despite the API not mentioning that you can or claiming that followers are read-only.
So to sum up for anyone else interested: POSTing to the endpoint https://app.asana.com/api/1.0/tags you can create a tag like this:
{ "data" : { "workspace": 1234567, "name" : "newtagname", "followers": [45678, 6789] } }
where 1234567 is your workspace ID and 45678 and 6789 are your new followers.
Since you posted this question, Asana's API and developer has introduced Tags. You documentation lays out the answer to your question pretty clearly:
https://asana.com/developers/api-reference/tags
I'm a bit confused by your question. Your ask "how to add a tag" but the first half of your question talks about adding a task. The problem with what you describe there is that you are trying to set a task's followers but the followers field is currently read-only according to Asana's API documentation. That is why you are getting an error. You can not set followers with the API right now.
The second part of your question - with the sample code - does look like you are trying to add a tag. However, right now the Asana API does not support this (at least according to the API documentation). You can update an existing tag but you can't add one.
So, to sum up: at this time the API does not allow you to add followers to a task or to create new tags.

Is there a way to get the twitter share count for a specific URL?

I looked through the API documentation but couldn't find it. It would be nice to grab that number to see how popular a url is. Engadget uses the twitter share button on articles if you're looking for an example. I'm attempting to do this through javascript. Any help is appreciated.
You can use the following API endpoint,
http://cdn.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url=http://stackoverflow.com
Note that the http://urls.api.twitter.com/ endpoint is not public.)
The endpoint will return a JSON string similar to,
{"count":27438,"url":"http:\/\/stackoverflow.com\/"}
On the client, if you are making a request to get the URL share count for your own domain (the one the script is running from), then an AJAX request will work (e.g. jQuery.getJSON). Otherwise, issue a JSONP request by appending callback=?:
jQuery.getJSON('https://cdn.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url=http://stackoverflow.com/&callback=?', function (data) {
jQuery('#so-url-shares').text(data.count);
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div id="so-url-shares">Calculating...</div>
Update:
As of 21st November 2015, this way of getting twitter share count, does not work anymore. Read more at: https://blog.twitter.com/2015/hard-decisions-for-a-sustainable-platform
This is not possible anymore as from today, you can read more here:
https://twitter.com/twitterdev/status/667836799897591808
And no plans to implement it back, unfortunately.
Up vote so users do not lose time trying out.
Update:
It is however possible via http://opensharecount.com, they provide a drop-in replacement for the old private JSON URL based on searches made via the API (so you don't need to do all that work).
It's based on the REST API Search endpoints. Its still new system, so we should see how it goes. In the future we can expect more of similar systems, because there is huge demand.
this is for url with https (for Brodie)
https://cdn.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url=YOUR_URL
No.
How do I access the count API to find out how many Tweets my URL has had?
In this early stage of the Tweet Button the count API is private. This means you need to use either our javascript or iframe Tweet Button to be able to render the count. As our systems scale we will look to make the count API public for developers to use.

Yes,

Update:
As of 21st November 2015, Twitter has removed the "Tweet count endpoint" API.
Read More: https://twitter.com/twitterdev/status/667836799897591808
The approved reply is the right one. There are other versions of the same endpoint, used internally by Twitter.
For example, the official share button with count uses this one:
https://cdn.syndication.twitter.com/widgets/tweetbutton/count.json?url=[URL]
JSONP support is there adding &callback=func.
I know that is an old question but for me the url http://cdn.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url=http://stackoverflow.com did not work in ajax calls due to Cross-origin issues.
I solved using PHP CURL, I made a custom route and called it through ajax.
/* Other Code */
$options = array(
CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER => true, // return web page
CURLOPT_HEADER => false, // don't return headers
CURLOPT_FOLLOWLOCATION => true, // follow redirects
CURLOPT_MAXREDIRS => 10, // stop after 10 redirects
CURLOPT_ENCODING => "", // handle compressed
CURLOPT_USERAGENT => "test", // name of client
CURLOPT_AUTOREFERER => true, // set referrer on redirect
CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT => 120, // time-out on connect
CURLOPT_TIMEOUT => 120, // time-out on response
);
$url = $_POST["url"]; //whatever you need
if($url !== ""){
$curl = curl_init("http://urls.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url=".$url);
curl_setopt_array($curl, $options);
$result = curl_exec($curl);
curl_close($curl);
echo json_encode(json_decode($result)); //whatever response you need
}
It is important to use a POST because passsing url in GET request cause issues.
Hope it helped.
This comment https://stackoverflow.com/a/8641185/1118419 proposes to use Topsy API. I am not sure that API is correct:
Twitter response for www.e-conomic.dk:
http://urls.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url=http://www.e-conomic.dk
shows 10 count
Topsy response fro www.e-conomic.dk:
http://otter.topsy.com/stats.json?url=http://www.e-conomic.dk
18 count
This way you can get it with jquery. The div id="twitterCount" will be populated automatic when the page is loaded.
function getTwitterCount(url){
var tweets;
$.getJSON('http://urls.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url=' + url + '&callback=?', function(data){
tweets = data.count;
$('#twitterCount').html(tweets);
});
}
var urlBase='http://http://stackoverflow.com';
getTwitterCount(urlBase);
Cheers!
Yes, there is. As long as you do the following:
Issue a JSONP request to one of the urls:
http://cdn.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url=[URL_IN_REQUEST]&callback=[YOUR_CALLBACK]
http://urls.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url=[URL_IN_REQUEST]&callback=[YOUR_CALLBACK]
Make sure that the request you are making is from the same domain as the [URL_IN_REQUEST]. Otherwise, it will not work.
Example:
Making requests from example.com to request the count of example.com/page/1. Should work.
Making requests from another-example.com to request the count of example.com/page/1. Will NOT work.
I just read the contents into a json object via php, then parse it out..
<script>
<?php
$tweet_count_url = 'http://urls.api.twitter.com/1/urls/count.json?url='.$post_link;
$tweet_count_open = fopen($tweet_count_url,"r");
$tweet_count_read = fread($tweet_count_open,2048);
fclose($tweet_count_open);
?>
var obj = jQuery.parseJSON('<?=$tweet_count_read;?>');
jQuery("#tweet-count").html("("+obj.count+") ");
</script>
Simple enough, and it serves my purposes perfectly.
This Javascript class will let you fetch share information from Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Example of usage
<p>Facebook count: <span id="facebook_count"></span>.</p>
<p>Twitter count: <span id="twitter_count"></span>.</p>
<p>LinkedIn count: <span id="linkedin_count"></span>.</p>
<script type="text/javascript">
var smStats=new SocialMediaStats('https://google.com/'); // Replace with your desired URL
smStats.facebookCount('facebook_count'); // 'facebook_count' refers to the ID of the HTML tag where the result will be placed.
smStats.twitterCount('twitter_count');
smStats.linkedinCount('linkedin_count');
</script>

Twitter O-Auth Callback url

I am having a problem with Twitter's oauth authentication and using a callback url.
I am coding in php and using the sample code referenced by the twitter wiki, http://github.com/abraham/twitteroauth
I got that code, and tried a simple test and it worked nicely. However I want to programatically specify the callback url, and the example did not support that.
So I quickly modified the getRequestToken() method to take in a parameter and now it looks like this:
function getRequestToken($params = array()) {
$r = $this->oAuthRequest($this->requestTokenURL(), $params);
$token = $this->oAuthParseResponse($r);
$this->token = new OAuthConsumer($token['oauth_token'], $token['oauth_token_secret']);
return $token;
}
and my call looks like this
$tok = $to->getRequestToken(array('oauth_callback' => 'http://127.0.0.1/twitter_prompt/index.php'));
This is the only change I made, and the redirect works like a charm, however I am getting an error when I then try and use my newly granted access to try and make a call. I get a "Could not authenticate you" error. Also the application never actually gets added to the users authorized connections.
Now I read the specs and I thought all I had to do was specify the parameter when getting the request token. Could someone a little more seasoned in oauth and twitter possibly give me a hand? Thank You
I think this is fixed by twitter by now or you might have missed to provide a default callback url in your application settings, which is required for dynamic callback url to work as mentioned by others above.
Any case, I got this working by passing the oath_callback parameter while retrieving the request token. I am using twitter-async PHP library and had to make a small tweak to make the library pass the callback url.
If you are using twitter-async, the change is below:
modified getRequestToken and getAuthenticateURL functions to take callback url as parameter
public function getRequestToken($callback_url = null)
{
$params = empty($callback_url) ? null : array('oauth_callback'=>$callback_url);
$resp = $this->httpRequest('GET', $this->requestTokenUrl, $params);
return new EpiOAuthResponse($resp);
}
public function getAuthenticateUrl($callback_url = null)
{
$token = $this->getRequestToken($callback_url);
return $this->authenticateUrl . '?oauth_token=' . $token->oauth_token;
}
And pass the callback url from your PHP code.
$twitterObj->getAuthenticateUrl('http://localhost/twitter/confirm.php');
#Ian, twitter now allows 127.0.0.1 and has made some other recent changes.
#jtymann, check my answer here and see if it helps
Twitter oauth_callback parameter being ignored!

jingles
even me to was getting 401 error.. but its resolved..
during registering your application to twitter you need to give callback url...
like http://localhost:8080.
i have done this using java...
so my code is: String CallbackURL="http://localhost:8080/tweetproj/index.jsp";
provider.retrieveRequestToken(consumer,CallbackURL);
where tweetproj is my project name
and index.jsp is just one jsp page...
Hope this may helps u...
After the user authorizes the application on twitter.com and they return to your callback URL you have to exchange the request token for an access token.
Twitter does not honor the oauth_callback parameter and will only use the one specified in the registered application settings.
It also doesn't allow for 127.0.0.1 or localhost names in that callback, so I've setup http://dev.twipler.com which is setup for 127.0.0.1 in DNS so you can safely use;
http://dev.twipler.com/twitter_prompt/index.php
