I have an iOS app that I would like to interface with an Vanilla forum in a very simple way. I would like the iOS app to request the last update date of the forum. That way I could indicate to the iOS app user the forum has been updated since their last visit.
I am guessing the way to go would be using Vanilla's REST services, but I am unsure of how to request the last update date, or if its even possible using REST.
I am studying information at this link: Vanilla REST Services and also searching through the PHP code to find something that might help.
Is there an easier way to do request the last update date of a Vanilla forum for use in an iOS app? If so, what is that easier way?

I've recently installed Walmart's API into my iOS app. The app's purpose is for the user to search for items using Walmart's API and then display the queried items to the user. However I am having a hard time finding any examples on how to use Walmart's API with Xcode and Swift language. Was curious if anyone could point me in the direction of how to properly use the API while using Swift language or if anyone has experience using the Walmart API in Xcode? I feel like it shouldn't be hard to accomplish what I am trying to do but right now I am a bit lost. All help and advice is appreciated in advance! Thanks.
Whenever An API is Created The Author gives out a Documentation, about the usage of the API, Requests Parameters etc.
So, Go through the Documentation of Your Needed API,
Once the Requests Are made in-app, they Generally respond you in JSON, XML etc.
Using these Incoming data you can Populate data in your APP
i'm a mobile-develop engineer.work on IOS platform,using Xcode.
a few days ago.the man server developer has been changed in our company.he said the popular way of developed is using the template whose name was Restful API,then I was starting know something about the Restful api.
what i knew the thought of the template was the server need only developed the just the one http-interface.they didn't care whatever clients how to requested and how hardly used.
i didn't agree that, example in the page.the requirements is search friends depends on the text which user input on search-bar.
the 1.0 version is just searched the information which key included name.maybe we will send the requestPostDate=xx(which user inputed),filter=name.
the 2.0 version is searched the information which key included name、sex、age or your personal description.but I can't changed the requirements as soon as possible. because i have been wroten filter=name.
what should we did if it should changed in 1.0 versions on AppStore platform.
so what we did is modified the code which filter=name, sex, age. and upload the new library(IPA),then send it to AppStore.hope it's successful during these days.
what i need to say is if we not using restful api.we can be controlled by server.we just tell them we had a key which is xx,the clients didn't care about what the logic of how to search, it easier? and it changed quickly?the client didn't modified any code.maybe we have Web-platform、IOS-platform、android-platform.
i don't know what's the template your company using now.if it's restful api.please tell me how to fix about the questions what i said before?
the problem what i said is the restful api is suitable in IOS platform? maybe is suitable in Web platform, but not suitable in Mobile-developed-platform.
do you agree what i said? if not.give me some point which you think is right please.
I was wondering if anyone could point me to any useful tutorials on allowing a master user to update information for their app. I am looking into creating an application for a local restaurant and I want the owner to be able to update information like the soup of the day and such by themselves.
I have been looking into JSON and CMS for this, but I am unable to find any useful information regarding iOS 8 or xCode 6. If anyone could provide me with this information, or any other suggestions on how to achieve this I would be very grateful!
(I am using Swift not Objective-C)
This is not a code issue, rather it is a development concept issue. You have many choices including making an API that is updated by the restaurant. The app then connects to the API and gets the recipes. If you feel you need to do this via the App make a special username that is allowed access to modify the menu. This can be accomplished via matching username exactly or via using a regex. It all really depends on the structure of your app platform.
My project is reliant on several API's, like Twitter and Youtube for example. Recently, Youtube deprecated their old API, and it caused issues with my team's iPad app.
We could have stayed ahead of the change if we were paying attention to Youtube's announcements of the upcoming deprecation. But alas, we were not and the idea of staying up to date with all of our dependencies manually(browsing the web) seems exhausting and inefficient.
I have found the following tool to help notify when changes occur with external library dependencies, https://libraries.io. However, this does not help with API dependencies.
Besides checking the API source webpages every so often, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on how to stay notified and up-to-date with news regarding updates to a specified list of external API's?
After some time looking at different options, I have found a solution that is not perfect, but seems to work best at fitting this need.
Solution Description
This solution uses a combination of Twitter, Google Scripts, and website blogtrottr.com. I am creating a twitter list of reliable dev handles that often post updates on new API. For example I made a list that contained #twitterapi and #YouTubeDev. Used Google Scripts to create an online feed out of the twitter list. Then used blogtrottr to email me every time that feed gets a new posting.
Steps to Implement
Create a twitter list of reliable handles that often post about updates to their API
Create an RSS Feed from that Twitter list. The details for how to do this can be found here.
Plug that url that you get from Google Script into blogtrotter.
I did find some other ways to do this, but so far this is the only solution that was 100% free!
For an event in a couple of weeks I'd like to make an web page/app which display tweets from a specific user, a specific hashtag and all #reply's at the first user in 3 boxes on the screen.
However I've never tried this. I want to use either .NET (C#) or HTML/CSS/JS since I'm proficient in those. Are there any libraries/API's I can use? Or is there an readily available freeware/open-source app I can use?
Have you seen TweetSharp?
Use Twitter's profile and search widgets. Profile for the first box, a search of the hash tag for the second box, and a search of to:username for the third box.
I actually just posted this as an answer to another question:
I just updated a plugin to work with the Twitter 1.1 API. Unfortunately, per Twitter's urging, you will have to perform the actual request from server-side code. However, you can pass the response to the plugin and it will take care of the rest. I don't know what framework you are running, but I have already added sample code for making the request in C#, and will be adding sample code for PHP, shortly.
The plugin makes a call to statuses/user_timeline, but you will likely want to look at statuses/filter or statuses/search, instead. All you will have to do is add your desired parameters (hashtag, replies, etc.) to the server-side code and it should work (with the addition of your security keys and tokens, of course).
Good luck! :)
