I've been fixing my application to run in real iOS device. I am using Xcode organizer. Now when i use it, it gives me this error:
xcode cannot find the software image to install this version
My iPhone version is: 6.0.1
My Xcode version is: 3.2.3
Any ideas how to solve this? I've already tried re-plugging the phone, I've also check some troubleshooting that other devs provided but it won't work.
Xcode 3.2.3 was released approximately when iOS 4 was out, so it won't support iOS 6.
Actual version is (at least) 4.5.1
Download it from the Mac App Store or here.

I would like to make my app compatible with IOS 7.0 but in the preferences --> downloads section, the lowest available version is IOS 8.1 simulator. I'm currently using OSX Yoesmite 10.10.5 wih xcode 7.2.1 running version 9.2.
Does that mean there's no way to test for app compatibility for any versions lower than IOS 8.1?
Edit: I realize it's possible to install older versions of xcode. I want to know if it's possible to download only the simulators on my current xcode, not have an entirely new and different xcode.
The answer should be NO.
It's not just about the simulator, but the SDK you use to compile the app to run within the simulator. When you use newer SDK to compile, the binary could contain unknown load commands to the binary header, or unknown APIs calls to an older system. That's the main reason you can't run an app built with newer SDK/system on an older OS. Even if it worked, it might still crashed at some point when the needed symbols can't be resolved.
So in order to run/build app for an older version of simulator, you need:
An older version of Xcode (which has older version of SDK)
Or, find out a way to setup your current version of Xcode to compile
with the older SDK extracted from an older version of Xcode. (This
may and may not work due to the change made to Xcode.)
For the second option, you can google it for how-to.
I keep getting this error, whenever I try to run my app on my iphone, which is running iOS 8.1.-
The Developer Disk Image could not be mounted.
User’s iPhone may be running a version of iOS that is not supported
by this version of Xcode.
I tried restarting my mac and xcode, but problem persists.
Xcode 6 only contains the iOS 8.0 SDK.
If you're running iOS 8.1 on your phone, then you'll need to upgrade to Xcode 6.1, which contains the iOS 8.1 SDK.
Download the latest version of Xcode from the App Store. I had an early version of XCode 6.1 that lacked the 8.1 SDK. Upgrading to the latest fixed the problem.
Restarting my phone cleared this for me.
It started a day after updating to Xcode 6.1 and phone (4s) to 8.1 worked fine to start with then stopped with this message a day later.
Opening project in Xcode 6.1 then again in 6.0.1 seemed to fix issue, if your project is not ready to be compiled in 6.1!
Did you check your apps' base version. If the base version is set to 8 and your device is 7, you will probably get this error.
and if your base version, from what i imagine is 8.1 and your device is not updated to 8.1 it wont work either.
Xcode 6.4 beta would not run iOS 8.3. Switched to Xcode 6.3 fixed the issue. And then when opening it back in 6.4 beta, was working fine.
Just ran into this after absentmindedly upgrading my phone to iOS 8.3. Resolution required an upgrade to OS X Yosemite (10.10) before I could update to a version of Xcode that supports that version of iOS.
I have seen this error before in my experience. It means that the Developer Disk image in your Xcode is not compatible with the one in your iOS device that you are trying to run/develop an app with. One of the easiest way to solve this is update your Xcode installation. Another quick trick that I learned with is by copying Developer Disk image versions into Xcode.app's directory.
I earned some copies of different versions of Developer Disk image from various Macbooks that have updated and outdated Developer Disk images. You could download some resources online, extract it and then place the whole directory on your Xcode's installation directory normally located here: /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Platforms/iPhoneOS.platform/DeviceSupport/.
I hope this helps!
I've just enrolled in the iOS dev program. I've an iPad2 running iOs 5.1.1 and am developing in XCode3.2.6.
I've gone through the steps to get a provisioning profile and use my iPad for development but it's not working... in XCode I see an iOS code signing Identity listed now but on trying to run on the device I get:
No provisioned iOS device is connected. Please check the Organizer to
view the status of any connected devices.
My device shows yellow in the Organize screen with message:
The version of iOS on XXXXX does not match any of the versions of
iOS supported for development with this installation of the iOS SDK.
Please restore the device to a version of the OS listed below, or
update to the latest version of the iOS SDK; which is available here.

I assume it's some incompatibility between iOS version and SDK but what am I supposed to do? The organizer screen seems to let me change iOS but asks me where to find the file image, which I don't have. And I don't know how or where to install a different SDK.
Sorry if I explained this badly, I'm pretty lost here. Although I have my app working in the simulator I really don't follow all this provisioning/profile stuff even after reading through the starter guide.
Your Xcode is too old. You must upgrade to at least XCode 4.3. But to upgrade to XCode 4.3, your mac need to be running Lion. It's a hassle, but after that, you will be able to build for your iPad that is currently on iOS 5. Otherwise, you need a device that is on previous version of iOS, but that's not sustainable because apple has a way of "automatically updating" your software...(or because of some careless settings, of course)
1 Open Xcode 5 (You should have Xcode 5)
2 Choose your iPhone5 (iOS7 or +) on Device Selection in Xcode 5 for your app.
3 Close Xcode 5, and Open Xcode 4
4 Your iPhone5 with iOS7 can now be used as test device.
Hope this helps.
My xcode is 4.2.5. I don't want to upgrade xcode now, because I read that xcode 4.3.2 has some problems.
I know it is necessary to upgrade xcode to test on 5.1 devices, but I am just wondering whether a release version compiled by sdk 5.0 can run on 5.1 devices.
You will not be able to build to a device running 5.1 without upgrading to the latest version of XCode (which also requires OSX Lion).
If you were to submit your app to the app store, however, users running 5.1 would still be able to download it. It very well might crash if you have 5.1-specific errors in the code, but users could install it.
No, it cannot. You must compile with at least the same version number as your target.
EDIT Wait, I should say that it will run but you won't be able to debug it. So I guess the answer is actually yes now that I read the question again.
I work in a testing company and use xcode for obtaining crash and console logs for testing purposes.
I currently have Xcode 4.2 released version (4C199) on a Snow Leopard (10.6.8).
I have apple devices ranging from iOS 3.1.3 till 5.1 beta 2. But on current version of Xcode, I cannot obtain logs from the iOS 5.1 beta 2 device. Rest of the devices show console logs without any problem.
My question is,
After i upgrade to Xcode 4.3, will it still be possible to obtain logs without any compatibility related errors from devices with older iOS versions like 3.1.3 or 4.2.1?
I am not sure and we shouldn't discuss beta specifics outside of Apple's developer forums, but I know what you can do in general to avoid compatibility issues with new versions. Whenever I install an Xcode beta I install it in a custom directory (other than Developer) so that my old and new versions can coexist.
