I have a dataset in Sheet1 with A being Identifiers and B being extra info.
If I have a duplicate A anywhere in Sheet2 I want to copy the B from Sheet1 to Sheet2 irrespective of where the duplication occurs in Sheet1 A.
I am currently trying: =IF(Sheet2!A1=Sheet1!$A:$A,Sheet2!$B, 99), however this only works row by row and I want it to search all of Sheet1 for duplications and insert the B that belongs to the duplication.
I don't think it's possible to solve by using formules. Probably, you need to create a VBA macros. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/213798/en-us?fr=1

I am filtering 5 Columns of data from SHEET2 into SHEET1 so the output from the filter is SHEET1 A1:E1, SHEET1 A2:E2, SHEET1 A3:E3 etc
Eventually the output will reach SHEET1 A10:E10 which is a problem because I already have data on SHEET1 A10:E10.
Is there a filter setting to have rows added automatically to avoid overlapping? Something like "Auto add rows to prevent data overlapping" ?
you can add rows based on some rules only with the script. however, in some cases there is possible to run all your formulae under each array. example:
={FILTER(...);
FILTER(...);
FILTER(...)}
No.
There is no such function or ability in Google Sheets.
I want to automatically generate unique, incremented ids (SKUs) for products in my inventory using Google Sheets. These SKUs should be immutable and not change when the sheet is sorted. This screenshot shows my flawed attempt to do this:
The formula I have for column A is:
=if($B2<>"",$B2 & TEXT(COUNTIF($B$2:$B2,$B2),"-0000"),"")
That formula appears to give the desired result. However, if I sort by the values in Column C, SKUs become associated with different Item Names, which is a problem. How can I modify the spreadsheet to get immutable, auto-generated SKUs?
Update:
I would like to be able to add additional rows/SKUs to the sheet over
time
Here is a link to the sample spreadsheet
I've added a sheet ("InventoryMaster(Unsorted") to your spreadsheet.
This sheet would be used to add your prefixes and items only. Once added, you would never sort, insert rows, delete rows or items, etc. Just keep adding the next prefix and item into the next open row, in Col B and Col C. Col A has a formula that will create the static SKUs from that unchanging and ordered information. (I've hidden that formula-containing Col A, so that you only have to enter the manual data and don't have to worry about accidentally overwriting the formula or its results. It's still there at all times, serving its purpose in the background.)
Then, other sheets (see my added "Erik Help" sheet) can reference that "immutable" list, giving you the ability to sort without losing SKU connection.
Here is the A1 formula from the 'InventoryMaster(Unsorted)' sheet:
=ArrayFormula({"SKU";IF(B2:B="",,B2:B&TEXT(COUNTIFS(B2:B,B2:B,ROW(B2:B),"<="&ROW(B2:B)),"-0000"))})
And here is the SKU-assigning formula from A1 of the "Erik Help" sheet:
=ArrayFormula({"SKU";IF(B2:B="",,VLOOKUP(B2:B&C2:C,{'InventoryMaster(Unsorted)'!B2:B&'InventoryMaster(Unsorted)'!C2:C,'InventoryMaster(Unsorted)'!A2:A},2,FALSE))})
I have 2 sheets which are connected.
Sheet-1: Has ID column and Status column (Status field is manually updated by the team)
Sheet-2: Has ID column and Status column (+ many other fields)
Requirement: Status column in Sheet 2 to be updated from Sheet-1 if ID column in sheet-2 = ID column in Sheet-1
I wrote a Query and ImportRange, but I could find Query working only when I compare it against a static value (for e.g. Yes). What I want is it to check against the value in ID column from both the sheets and import only for rows that match.
=QUERY(IMPORTRANGE("1ZkPaYb1IIIkcbVerdmZ-Ru1vxFu1YMWj74QNQj2jles", "Ops Action Sheet!B2:B10000"),"select Col2 where Col1 = 'Yes'")
This doesn't directly answer your question about using QUERY, but I believe that that function might not be the best tool for what you're trying to do.
I write below a solution using the alternative function VLOOKUP.
I am assuming here that by "Sheet-1" and "Sheet-2", you actually mean entirely different spreadsheets, judging by your use of IMPORTRANGE.
If you don't mind having a copy of Sheet-1's contents living within Sheet-2, here is what you can do:
On a new sheet (tab) in Sheet-2, copy this function (fill in sheet_1_url):
=IMPORTRANGE("sheet_1_url", "Ops Action Sheet!$A:$B")
You should see a copy of the data from Sheet-1 in that tab. You can hide this tab or protect it if you wish.
On your main data tab within Sheet-2, copy this formula in your Status column (assuming that your ID is in A2:
=IFERROR(VLOOKUP($A2,range_from_step_1,2,),)
Copy that formula down as much as you need.
However, if you don't want to have a copy of Sheet-1's data in Sheet-2 for whatever reason, you can simply skip steps 1-2 above, going straight to step 3, with the following formula in Sheet-2:
=IFERROR(VLOOKUP($A2,IMPORTRANGE("sheet_1_url", "Ops Action Sheet!$A:$B"),2,),)
Not that I recommend it, since you'd technically be importing your data virtually within the formula N number of times, which will be a huge performance hit.
You can see the references for the formulas used above here:
IMPORTRANGE
VLOOKUP
IFERROR
edit to reflect and paste in spreadsheet 2:
=ARRAYFORMULA(IFERROR(VLOOKUP(A2:A, IMPORTRANGE("ID", "Sheet!A:C"), {2, 3}, 0)))
A2:A - column of IDs in spreadsheet 2
Sheet!A:C - column A of this range hosts IDs
{2, 3} - brings column B and C from spreadsheet 1 into spreadsheet 2
I have a spreadsheet where in every column I have a list of names. They can repeat, and whats even worse - cells can contain some additional text (apart from the name).
What I want to do is count the occurrences of the name in the whole spreadsheet (only looking at the name, omitting the potential additional text). Is Possible?
I tried the formula =UNIQUE, but it does not work vertically (I'm working with Google Sheets)
Example of a document https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1STtJr0yisSeuv2w8_JVgQABAL5EDzI8aFmH8Vp2cOko/edit?usp=sharing
You can use Countif, Arrayformula, and Regexreplace to accomplish this task
Assuming you have the data range from A2:E12 and the prefilled unique names starting from A14
Formula:
=countif(ARRAYFORMULA(regexreplace($A$2:$E$12,".\(.*","")),A14)
Copy the formula until the last row
Hope it helps!
I'm sure that others will provide a much more elegant solution but this takes the data as presented in the spreadsheet and can be implemented in just a few minutes.
Paste this formula in Cell F3
=FILTER({A3:A13;B3:B6;C3:C5;D3:D5;E3:E5;A18:A21;B18:B20;C18:C20;D18:D20;E18:E19}, LEN({A3:A13;B3:B6;C3:C5;D3:D5;E3:E5;A18:A21;B18:B20;C18:C20;D18:D20;E18:E19}))
This creates a single column list compiled from the various smaller lists.
Highlight the range of names created in Column F (based on the test data = F3:F41), click Copy,
Highlight cell G3, click Paste special (Paste Values only) - this converts the formula to a list for entries.
Paste this formula in Cell H3 - this removes any data in brackets
=left(G3,iferror(search(" (",G3)-1,len(G3)))
Copy the formula down as many rows as there is data in Column G
Paste this formula in cell I3 - this lists the unique names
=unique(H3:H41)
Paste this formula in cell J3 and copy down as many rows as there is data in Column I - this counts the number of instances of each unique name in the master list.
=COUNTIF(H:H, I3)
Tried searching and checking Google documentation but I am still having issues getting the results that I want for this problem.
I'm needing to split several comma-separated lists of items and recombine them so that first items in each list is combined, followed by the second item, etc.
To ask with an illustration, if I have a cell with the following
Paul, John, George, Ringo
and another cell with the following
McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, Starr
How do I use one function to produce this in a cell?
Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, Ringo Starr
Here you go, you will need to copy to every row - but assuming your data is in columns A and B it will work across a dynamic number of items:
=ARRAYFORMULA(join(",",split(A1,",")&" "&split(B1,",")))
See image example below, in row one i used the data you showed up top, and in row two i reversed the column data just to show as an example:
If you paste the first word CSV to Sheet1 and the second word CSV to Sheet2 then you could put the following into sheet3
In Cell A1:
=Sheet1!A1&" "&Sheet2!A1
This is saying take the value in sheet1 A1 and then a space " " then the value in sheet2 A1
You could also do this with the concatenate function:
=CONCATENATE(Sheet1!A1," ",Sheet2!A1)
Then just copy the formula to suit.
