I would like to get the html element corresponding to the auto-complete list i.e. dropdown part that opens as I type into the input element of jQuery combobox. How would I get this dropdown element using jQuery?
If you're talking about jQueryUI autocomplete, you can access the menu's element using:
$('autocomplete_selector').data("autocomplete").menu.element;
So in the context of the open event, you could do something like this:
$("input").autocomplete({
open: function (event, ui) {
// menu is a jQuery object.
var menu = $(this).data("autocomplete").menu.element;
}
});
Example: http://jsfiddle.net/PvgGw/
For the combobox widget you'll need to jump through a few more hoops, since the input is dynamically generated:
$("combobox_selector")
.data("combobox")
.wrapper
.find("input")
.data("autocomplete")
.menu
.element;

Datepicker crate hidden element (with id attribute "ui-datepicker-div") in body tag.
How set my wrapper for datepicker hidden element?
Js code:
window.("#datepicker").datepicker({ ??? });
See example:
official site
You can use jQuery wrap():
$('#ui-datepicker-div').wrap('<div class="datepicker-wrapper"/>');
Whole script would look like (based on your example page):
<script>
$(function() {
$("#datepicker" ).datepicker();
$('#ui-datepicker-div').wrap('<div class="datepicker-wrapper"/>');
});
</script>
I searched a lot on net but couldnt find any solution. I am making a webapp in which I want 2 textbox to get data input from user. I want autocomplete feature in this textbox. The list of tags for autocomplete is available locally. I tried listview but what I want is that after user select some option from autocomplete hints, the textbox should have the selected value, and through some object, i should get the value of textbox to be used by javascript/php. This is a very basic thing, but I'm not able to do. Please help me out
I tried this jsfiddle.net/ULXbb/48/ . But the problem in this is that both listview gets same value after I select something in 1 listview.
In order not to add the same value to both search input, you need to target them using .closest(), .next(), .prev() and .find(). jQuery-Mobile, enhances list-view with data filter in a different way.
Demo
<form>
<input>
</form>
<ul data-role="listview">
<li>
<a>text</a>
</li>
</ul>
The form where the input is located, is on the same level of the ul. To target the input box, you need to use .prev('form').find('input'). Check the demo and the new code below.
$("input[data-type='search']").keyup(function () {
if ($(this).val() === '') {
$(this).closest('form').next("[data-role=listview]").children().addClass('ui-screen-hidden');
}
});
$('a.ui-input-clear').click(function () {
$(this).closest('input').val('');
$(this).closest('input').trigger('keyup');
});
$("li").click(function () {
var text = $(this).find('.ui-link-inherit').text();
$(this).closest('[data-role=listview]').prev('form').find('input').val(text);
$(this).closest('[data-role=listview]').children().addClass('ui-screen-hidden');
});
Thanks #user714852 I have extended your answer just add this line in the script tag:
$("#mylist li" ).addClass('ui-screen-hidden');
It will do wonders.
A working example: Listview Autocomplete - Enhanced
I've been using the tag-it plugin from https://github.com/aehlke/tag-it (demo - http://aehlke.github.com/tag-it/examples.html).
In this code there is an option to display the inputted tags in another input, textarea etc. First option -
$('#singleFieldTags').tagit({
availableTags: sampleTags,
singleField: true,
singleFieldNode: $('#mySingleField')
});
Here the id - #singleFieldTags is the inputting field which is a list like <ul and id - #mySingleField displays the 'list-ordered' tags with commas between each.
All the tags that are added and removed in the #singleFieldTags appear in the #mySingleField. Since there is no built-it sortable function with tag-it, adding a sortable() to change the order of tags in #singleFieldTags, does not change the order of tags in #mySingleField.
The second option is a plain with only #singleFieldTags as follows :-
$('#singleFieldTags').tagit({
availableTags: sampleTags,
});
Although in tag-it.js there is a , the value does not appear in the mysql table after submitting the php form as the above list of tags is placed between <li></li>.
How is it possible to make the tags sortable and ensure that the same arrangement of tags in the list field <ul to be displayed in the <textarea as in First Option? Or How can the second option of sorting tags within a single field <input work and enabling it to be submitted by a form?
EDIT: There is a similar plugin like Tag-it called tagit here: http://webspirited.com/tagit/ . This plugin has sortable with an input box meaning if the tags were interchanged, and when submitted on form it would appear in the order of the sort. However, the disadvantage being that it has custom themeroller themes these are not similar and cannot even be linked to the ones at jQuery UI (jqueryui.com).
But on the other hand, the tag-it plugin (not tagit), can be loaded with these themes but does not provide the sortable function.
Here's a solution that uses the tag-it plugin, because I understand that your missing functionality is explained in your quote "...adding a sortable() to change the order of tags in #singleFieldTags, does not change the order of tags in #mySingleField".
In order to have "#mySingleField" reflect the new sort order, I'm adding a handler to the stop event of sortable():
$('#singleFieldTags').sortable({
stop: function(event,ui) {
$('#mySingleField').val(
$(".tagit-label",$(this))
.clone()
.text(function(index,text){ return (index == 0) ? text : "," + text; })
.text()
);
}
});
and
$('#singleFieldTags2').siblings(".tagit").sortable({
stop: function(event,ui) {
$('#singleFieldTags2').val(
$(".tagit-label",$(this))
.clone()
.text(function(index,text){ return (index == 0) ? text : "," + text; })
.text()
);
console.log( $('#singleFieldTags2').val() ); // just for reference
}
});
Here is a jsfiddle that demonstrates the functionality
(added functionality for single input field)
My scenario is I have a list of items that are draggable but not sortable and another list that is sortable. What I want to achieve is to drag from the draggable into the sortable but when I drop the item into the sortable I want to make an ajax request and depending on the answer to insert the item into the sortable or not.
I tried to use on beforeStop or receive events for the sortable to cancel the item being added to the sortable but didn't find a solution.
I made a jsfiddle here http://jsfiddle.net/5pTCd/21/
Why not using your draggable/droppable in an accept/revert setting?
Here is a theoretical way to accomplish an accept/revert drag & drop :
First you need to set your draggable to revert if it is not accepted:
$(".drag").draggable({ revert: 'invalid' });
Then of course you could define what is valid in your droppable :
$(".drop").droppable({ accept: '.drag' });
But thanks to the magic powder included in jQuery UI, you can insert a function as a value for "accept", it's returned value will define what you accept as a valid element:
$(".drop").droppable( { accept: function() {
// return true or false
} });
As an alternative you can use the dragstart event to change the accept option of your droppable :
$(".drag").draggable({
start: function() {
// your ajax call and then a callback with :
$(".drop").droppable("option","accept","#thisItemsID") }
});
On a page I have an iframe. In this iframe is a collection of items that I need to be sortable. All of the Javascript is being run on the parent page. I can access the list in the iframe document and create the sortable by using context:
var ifrDoc = $( '#iframe' ).contents();
$( '.sortable', ifrDoc ).sortable( { cursor: 'move' } );
However, when trying to actually sort the items, I'm getting some aberrant behavior. As soon as an item is clicked on, the target of the script changes to the outer document. If you move the mouse off of the iframe, you can move the item around and drop it back by clicking, but you can not interact with it within the iframe.
Example: http://robertadamray.com/sortable-test.html
So, is there a way to achieve what I want to do - preferably without having to go hacking around in jQuery UI code?
Dynamically add jQuery and jQuery UI to the iframe (demo):
$('iframe')
.load(function() {
var win = this.contentWindow,
doc = win.document,
body = doc.body,
jQueryLoaded = false,
jQuery;
function loadJQueryUI() {
body.removeChild(jQuery);
jQuery = null;
win.jQuery.ajax({
url: 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.18/jquery-ui.min.js',
dataType: 'script',
cache: true,
success: function () {
win.jQuery('.sortable').sortable({ cursor: 'move' });
}
});
}
jQuery = doc.createElement('script');
// based on https://gist.github.com/getify/603980
jQuery.onload = jQuery.onreadystatechange = function () {
if ((jQuery.readyState && jQuery.readyState !== 'complete' && jQuery.readyState !== 'loaded') || jQueryLoaded) {
return false;
}
jQuery.onload = jQuery.onreadystatechange = null;
jQueryLoaded = true;
loadJQueryUI();
};
jQuery.src = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js';
body.appendChild(jQuery);
})
.prop('src', 'iframe-test.html');
Update: Andrew Ingram is correct that jQuery UI holds and uses references to window and document for the page to which jQuery UI was loaded. By loading jQuery / jQuery UI into the iframe, it has the correct references (for the iframe, rather than the outer document) and works as expected.
Update 2: The original code snippet had a subtle issue: the execution order of dynamic script tags isn't guaranteed. I've updated it so that jQuery UI is loaded after jQuery is ready.
I also incorporated getify's code to load LABjs dynamically, so that no polling is necessary.
Having played with their javascript a bit, Campaign Monitor solves this by basically having a custom version of jQuery UI. They've modified ui.mouse and ui.sortable to replace references to document and window with code that gets the document and window for the element in question. document becomes this.element[0].ownerDocument
and they have a custom jQuery function called window() which lets them replace window with this.element.window() or similar.
I don't know why your code isn't working. Looks like it should be.
That said, here are two alternative ways to implement this feature:
If you can modify the iframe
Move your JavaScript from the parent document into iframe-test.html. This may be the cleanest way because it couples the JavaScript with the elements its actually executing on.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3287783/snippets/rarayiframe/sortable-test.html
If you only control the parent document
Use the jQuery .load() method to fetch the content instead of an HTML iframe.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3287783/snippets/rarayiframe2/sortable-test.html
Instead of loading jQuery and jQueryUI inside the iFrame and evaluating jQueryUI interactions both in parent and child - you can simply bubble the mouse events to the parent's document:
var ifrDoc = $( '#iframe' ).contents();
$('.sortable', ifrDoc).on('mousemove mouseup', function (event) {
$(parent.document).trigger(event);
});
This way you can evaluate all your Javascript on the parent's document context.
