iOS native app finding what a story is linking to : status, photo etc - ios

Entries in a news feed of type story do not seem to identify what they are about other than in the text so I cannot programatically tell if it's about their own status, a photo etc other than looking at the works in the message.
Is there a way of identifying what a story refers to (so I can make meaningful looking posts like 'Jane commented on her own status - "My new iPad is great for reading magazines" ')
I'm stuck as I can tell if I should fetch a post , photo or whatever.
Thanks in advance

Check if App is started with GameCenter challenge

Hello Stackoverflow Community,
I would really like to get help of you, because i am at this problem for around 2 weeks now, and i could not even find something that would help me a bit.
If i get a challenge for my app and click on it, my app will open.
Is there a way to get the information on what challenge i clicked and let me display e.g. the score that i have to beat inside my game?
I tried getting the Arguments that the app is started with, but there is nothing that looks like challenge related data in there.
I already managed to get all the challenges for my game, but there is now way i can tell which one i clicked on with that method.
Thanks for you help.
As of this writing, when you click the notification or open the game via the game center, no useful information is passed to your game.
All I have found are hacky solutions, like putting descriptive text (maybe the requestor's name) in the invite text and then showing that same text when displaying the list of available matches.

How to grab picture, description from a pasted link in iOS app

I'm making an app where users can paste links to things they want to add to their collection. The idea is that for example if you find a book you want to read, you can save it to your collection by copying the link and pasting into the app. I want to go one step further (if possible) by grabbing the picture, title, description etc of the item (book in this case) from the link and display it in the user's collection.
(p.s. Facebook does this well where when you post a link to your status, it displays the info)
I'm new to development in general, not just iOS - so any tips will be helpful. Nothing is too trivial.

How can I access articles from my school newspaper website and update my app when a new one is posted?

My school newspaper recently switched from print to digital, and I wanted to make an app so that the newspaper is more accessible.
As of right now, students can only access it via this website, and articles are largely ignored because no one bothers to check it.
I have a moderate amount of experience with making apps in Swift (through bitfountain and Ray Wenderlich), but I'm not sure how to start this project. If possible, how can I fetch articles from the website above and display them on an app? As of now, I'm not looking to mimic the site with a sports feed, comment sections, polls, etc, but I do want to be able to:
Get the text of the article, as well as the title, author, and date
Get the category that the article is filed under (News, Sports, Features, etc)
Get the picture(s) included in the article (this is not crucial)
I'm really stumped on how I can access this information and create an app that can continually fetch new articles when they are posted and update itself to show them. Is this a feasible endeavor, and if so, how can I start?
Check out this post from W3schools. This is a PHP script that grabs the feed url and renders it in HTML.
I think this will be perfect for your project.

App Inventor 2 Pizza Party query not working

I completed the App Inventor 2 Pizza Party sample without any problems and now I wanted to try to query the fusion table by searching for specific items. In this case after I press the Submit button, I want to see in the webviewer, all items in the Pizza column that have Cheese.
When I run this app from my phone, I get everything in the table, not just the rows with Cheese. I know I'm doing something wrong but after quite a bit of time looking for examples and trying things myself, I'm stuck. Appreciate any help or ideas. Thank you.
I'll post this also in the MIT App Inventor forum. Thanks.
if you like to display the result in the webviewer directly, you have to modify the URL of the webviewer accordingly, see screenshot

Gem for creating a left/right scrollable notification viewer for web app?

I'm new to Ruby on Rails so please bear with me.
I'm creating a web app for users to trade cards and would like to include in the user's home page a notification section that shows relevant alerts for the user based on possible trade matches and other things like new messages. The functionality would require alerts to be generated based on certain triggers (userB accepts trade, trade is proposed to userA, userB messages userA, and possibly even incorporate sponsored posts). This will basically function like the "notification center" on iOS.
I've made a quick mockup: http://i.imgur.com/hQ3Fc.jpg (or if that's too big --> http://imgur.com/hQ3Fc) -- wouldn't let me embed image because I'm new :(
So the idea is the view will probably have 5-15 alerts at any given time (give or take) and can scroll through them using those left/right arrows. The alerts will be a basic message with a link to the relevant page, or for something like a trade rating have the message "open" to fill the viewer and show the necessary functionality.
Hopefully I explained this okay. Anyone know anything out there that might make building this easier? Please let me know if there is any info I missed in asking this?
Not sure I get exactly what your wanting to do but if I understand correctly this may help. I have used swipe.js it is easy to use, should get you started on a swipeable/scrollable interface.
