I have a UITextView inside a UITableViewCell. It's working as expected except that I can't dismiss the autocorrection suggestions that pop up. This is what my -tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath: method looks like:
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
static NSString *messageCellIdentifier = #"MessageCell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:messageCellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault
reuseIdentifier:messageCellIdentifier];
}
// Set the background view of the cell to be transparent
UIView *backView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero];
backView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
cell.backgroundView = backView;
cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone;
UIImage *ballonImage = [[UIImage imageNamed:#"ChatBubbleGray.png"] stretchableImageWithLeftCapWidth:24 topCapHeight:15];
NSString *text = #"Touch To Type";
// This imageView will be the background of the UITextView
UIImageView *balloon = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:ballonImage];
balloon.frame = CGRectMake(0.0, 0.0, 300, 140);
CGRect textViewFrame;
textViewFrame.origin.x = balloon.frame.origin.x + 10;
textViewFrame.origin.y = balloon.frame.origin.y + 5;
textViewFrame.size.width = balloon.frame.size.width - 12;
textViewFrame.size.height = balloon.frame.size.height - 15;
self.messageTextView = [[UITextView alloc] initWithFrame:textViewFrame];
self.messageTextView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
self.messageTextView.returnKeyType = UIReturnKeyDefault;
self.messageTextView.editable = YES;
self.messageTextView.scrollEnabled = YES;
self.messageTextView.autocorrectionType = UITextAutocorrectionTypeYes;
self.messageTextView.autocapitalizationType = UITextAutocapitalizationTypeSentences;
self.messageTextView.delegate = self;
self.messageTextView.text = text;
self.messageTextView.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:14.0];
[balloon addSubview:self.messageTextView];
[cell.contentView addSubview:balloon];
return cell;
}
#Peter Warbo: I'm suspecting following:
By default UIImageView's userInteraction property is set to NO. Set it to YES on your ballon image view object.
balloon.userInteractionEnabled = YES;

On the iPhone, the tableview looks fine, but in the iPad (simulator ios10), this is how it's shown:
Check image here: http://welove.pt/img/ipadtrouble.png
Any idea why its displaying differently on iPhone/iPad?
Also, what's with that white corner by the search icon? why isn't it black?
ViewDidLoad:
_tableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, self.view.frame.size.width, self.view.frame.size.height) style:UITableViewStyleGrouped];
_tableView.delegate = self;
_tableView.dataSource = self;
_tableView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
_tableView.separatorColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:58/255.0 green:58/255.0 blue:58/255.0 alpha:1.0];
_tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(20, 0, 0, 0);
_tableView.indicatorStyle = UIScrollViewIndicatorStyleWhite;
[self.view addSubview:_tableView];
cellForRowAtIndexPath:
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc]initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
UIView *selectionColor = [[UIView alloc] init];
selectionColor.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:(54/255.0) green:(54/255.0) blue:(54/255.0) alpha:1];
cell.selectedBackgroundView = selectionColor;
cell.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:(28/255.0) green:(28/255.0) blue:(28/255.0) alpha:1];
cell.textLabel.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
}
if (indexPath.section == 0) {
cell.imageView.image = [[UIImage imageNamed:#"defineLocation.png"] imageWithRenderingMode:UIImageRenderingModeAlwaysTemplate];
UILabel *ttitle = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(46, 12, 320, 20)];
ttitle.font = [UIFont systemFontOfSize:17];
ttitle.textColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:(115/255.0) green:(229/255.0) blue:(69/255.0) alpha:1.0];
[ttitle setText:NSLocalizedString(#"current_location", nil)];
[cell.contentView addSubview:ttitle];
} else {
cell.textLabel.text = [[_recentSearchData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] objectForKey:#"recentTitle"];
}
return cell;
}
Thank you for your help.
Subclassing the UITableViewCell solved the alignment issues.
Regarding that white arrow when the view is popping over on the iPad, i managed to change it's color with:
- (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated {
[super viewWillAppear:animated];
self.navigationController.popoverPresentationController.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:(23/255.0) green:(23/255.0) blue:(23/255.0) alpha:1.0];
}
this viewWillAppear belongs to the UITableViewController that is shown in the popover.
Thanks for your suggestions
I'm working with RESIDEMENU,and trying to add a line between cells of LeftMenuViewController,here is my code:
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *cellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
cell.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
cell.textLabel.font = [UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue" size:21];
cell.textLabel.textColor = [UIColor whiteColor];
cell.textLabel.highlightedTextColor = [UIColor lightGrayColor];
cell.selectedBackgroundView = [[UIView alloc] init];
}
NSArray *titles = #[#"Home", #"Calendar", #"Profile", #"Settings", #"Log Out"];
NSArray *images = #[#"IconHome", #"IconCalendar", #"IconProfile", #"IconSettings", #"IconEmpty"];
cell.textLabel.text = titles[indexPath.row];
cell.imageView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:images[indexPath.row]];
UIView * lineView= [[UIView alloc]initWithFrame:CGRectMake(10, 0, cell.contentView.bounds.size.width, 3)];
lineView.backgroundColor=[UIColor redColor];
[cell.contentView addSubview:lineView];
return cell;
}
I can see these lines at first, but when I touch any cell, the cell is highlighted ,and the line of this cell disappear weirdly.any way to fix it?
snapshot before :
snapshot when click a cell:
UITableViewCell changes the background color of all sub views when cell is selected or highlighted.
You have three options :
No selection style
cell.selectionStyle = UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone;
Subclass UITableViewCell and overriding Tableview cell's setSelected:animated and/or setHighlighted:animated
Add the line as a layer
CALayer* layer = [CALayer layer];
layer.frame = CGRectMake(10, 0, cell.contentView.bounds.size.width, 3);
layer.backgroundColor = [UIColor redColor].CGColor;
[cell.contentView.layer addSublayer:layer];
Another workaround is overwriting setBackgroundColor: and expose similar method to change its backgroundColor.
#interface
- (void)setPersistentBackgroundColor:(UIColor*)color;
#implementation
- (void)setPersistentBackgroundColor:(UIColor*)color
{
super.backgroundColor = color;
}
- (void)setBackgroundColor:(UIColor *)color
{
// [super setBackgroundColor:color];
// prohibit from changing its background color.
}
I'm confused !, it is not my first time to create Custom Cell but this time UILabel doesn't appear I don't know where is the problem ?
This the custom cell Cell.m
mainView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero];
mainView.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithRed:249.0/255.0 green:249.0/255.0 blue:249.0/255.0 alpha:1.0];
profile = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero];
profile.layer.masksToBounds = YES;
profile.layer.cornerRadius = 22.5;
profile.layer.borderColor = [UIColor whiteColor].CGColor;
profile.layer.borderWidth = 1.0f;
profile.clipsToBounds = YES;
tweet_is = [[UILabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero];
tweet_is.font = [UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue-Thin" size:20];
tweet_is.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
tweet_is.textColor = [UIColor blackColor];
[self.mainView addSubview:tweet_is];
[self.mainView addSubview:profile];
[self.contentView addSubview:self.mainView];
-(void)layoutSubviews {
[super layoutSubviews];
self.mainView.frame = CGRectMake(0, 0, self.frame.size.width, self.frame.size.height - 10.0f);
self.profile.frame = CGRectMake(15, 15, 45, 45);
self.tweet_is.frame = CGRectMake(30, 30, 300.0f, 300.0f);
}
This is the tableView
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
Cell *cell = (Cell *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (!cell) {
cell = [[Cell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
}
cell.tweet_is.text = #"Not approve";
return cell;
}
Change this line:
self.tweet_is.frame = CGRectMake(30, 30, 300.0f, 300.0f);
set it self.tweet_is.frame = CGRectMake(30, 30, 300.0f, 30.0f);
If your cell height is less than 300 (I think it is) then you can not see the text. Let me know if that helps.. :)
I have created an app with a table view. Which uses a view and a label in each cell. But if I create the views and cells in the (!cell) code it returns empty cells and if I remove the (!cell) condition it displays the data but does not take dynamic height. Can anyone please help me.

Thanks in advance.
I saw a lot of solutions but all was wrong or uncomplet.
You can solve all problems with 5 lines in viewDidLoad and autolayout.
This for objetive C:
_tableView.delegate = self;
_tableView.dataSource = self;
self.tableView.estimatedRowHeight = 80;//the estimatedRowHeight but if is more this autoincremented with autolayout
self.tableView.rowHeight = UITableViewAutomaticDimension;
[self.tableView setNeedsLayout];
[self.tableView layoutIfNeeded];
self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(20, 0, 0, 0) ;
For swift 2.0:
self.tableView.estimatedRowHeight = 80
self.tableView.rowHeight = UITableViewAutomaticDimension
self.tableView.setNeedsLayout()
self.tableView.layoutIfNeeded()
self.tableView.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsMake(20, 0, 0, 0)
Now create your cell with xib or into tableview in your Storyboard
With this you no need implement nothing more or override. (Don forget number os lines 0) and the bottom label (constrain) downgrade "Content Hugging Priority -- Vertical to 250"
You can donwload the code in the next url:

This is a part of my code which i used in my app. It works for me fine.Ping me if u need help.

CGSize neededSize = [ [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#",[cellar objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]] sizeWithFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue-Medium" size:15.0f] constrainedToSize:constraintSize lineBreakMode:UILineBreakModeCharacterWrap];
return MAX(45, neededSize.height +33);
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
{ cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease];
}
CGSize constraintSize = {230.0, 20000};
UILabel* label = [[UILabel alloc] init];
[label setNumberOfLines:0];
label.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
[label setFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue-Medium" size:15.0f]];
label.adjustsFontSizeToFitWidth = NO;
CGSize neededSize = [ [NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#",[cellar objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] ] sizeWithFont:[UIFont fontWithName:#"HelveticaNeue-Medium" size:15.0f] constrainedToSize:constraintSize lineBreakMode:UILineBreakModeCharacterWrap];
// NSLog(#"Height%f",neededSize.height);
//NSLog(#"width%f",neededSize.width);
[label setText:[NSString stringWithFormat:#"%#",[cellar objectAtIndex:indexPath.row] ]];
[label setFrame:CGRectMake(10, 2, 230, MAX(neededSize.height+30, 44.0f))];
[[cell contentView] addSubview:label];
cell.selectionStyle=UITableViewCellSelectionStyleNone;
return cell;
}
Hope it helps.!!!

I have a standard tableview here and I wanted to be able to add a space between each cell that is invisible/hidden that shows the background. What is the correct way of doing it?
Here is the code I am using:
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
JointCAD *currentCall = [[xmlParser calls] objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil)
{
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
// Format each frame that holds each piece of content in each row

Let me start by saying I did not read all your code. That said I have done exactly this. The first approach is to declare in the heightForCell a larger value for the cell above where the gap should be. The cell.contentView might need to have its clipToBounds set. I believe in this case the cell size should be set by setting the cell.frame.size (the origin is 0,0), and the contentsView and backgroundview properly sized too.
The second way to do it is to insert empty cells - cells with a different reuse identifier, and which are just empty cells with everything set to have a clear color.
Just use the trick to have spaces between each cells..
static NSString *CELL_ID2 = #"SOME_STUPID_ID2";
// even rows will be invisible
if (indexPath.row % 2 == 1)
{
UITableViewCell * cell2 = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CELL_ID2];
if (cell2 == nil)
{
cell2 = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault
reuseIdentifier:CELL_ID2];
[cell2.contentView setAlpha:0];
[cell2 setUserInteractionEnabled:NO]; // prevent selection and other stuff
}
return cell2;
}
I just use different heights and alternate colours between cells.
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
tableView.separatorStyle = UITableViewCellSeparatorStyleNone;
if (indexPath.row % 2 == 1)
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"cellID1";
UITableViewCell *cell = (UITableViewCell *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault
reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
}
cell.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWhite];
return cell;
} else {
static NSString *CellIdentifier2 = #"cellID2";
UITableViewCell *cell2 = (UITableViewCell *)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier2];
if (cell2 == nil) {
cell2 = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault
reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier2];
}
cell2.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor];
return cell2;
}
}
- (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
if (indexPath.row % 2 == 1) {
return 40.0;
} else {
return 2.0;
}
}
