Problem is I need to debug a web application on a CMS using an iPad and Safari.
So far I haven't been able to make firebug-lite work. I am working in a secured environment having no internet acces, but can copy files using a USB-key.
I have copied firebug-lite.js to the local server and included the file in a script tag in the head:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://my_server/js/firebug-lite.js"></script>
Unfortunatly when I open the page in the CMS I cannot see the firebug-lite-button on the page. Verifying the source code firebug-lite should have been loaded on the page. There is no way to get a right click menu to inspect anything.
What can I do to make firebug-lite work on the iPad? What am I doing wrong?
Start Firebug Lite already opened, as per http://getfirebug.com/firebuglite#Options :
<script type="text/javascript" src="proto://path/to/firebug-lite.js#startOpened=true"></script>
I think you won't be able to inspect elements, but you can navigate to the elements in the DOM tree provided by Firebug Lite.
It looks like Firebug-lite has problems with the iPad browser since late 2010.
The problem (ticket on official tracker) has not been yet solved.
Have you tested the problematic page in Safari/Chrome/Chromium for desktop? Since they use Webkit, the same system used with mobile Safari/Chrome, you may be able to duplicate the error and find its solution. You can open Chrome's debugger with right click, Inspect element.

I copied the navbar default sample from from the samples but without any changes it appears to be doing what I think is mobile format. The only thing I see is the brand tag to the left and the button to the right. My monitor is pretty big so it can handle the menu and it does when I view it online which you can visually see here. I can only assume that since I cut and paste from the demo code I have a setting somewhere else that is wrong but I have no idea where to look. I did make sure to run nuget and get the latest version of the code so I should match what is on the demo. Any ideas?
Update
The issue appears to be with VS2012 and debug mode. Using Visual Studio Development Server seems to be the problem. If I publish locally it works as expected. I thought it might be IE8 but realized it was VS2012 after I published the site.
Is there a way to work around this while using the debugger in VS2012?
Update 2
And somehow it is not working in IE8 again even after being published. Chrome seems to work fine. Must be something picky about IE8 that I need to code around.
Try to copy all the page html, then if it works cut unnecessary code.
Use this instead of your local bootstrap:
<!-- Latest compiled and minified CSS -->
<link rel="stylesheet" href="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.2.0/css/bootstrap.min.css">
<!-- Optional theme -->
<link rel="stylesheet" href="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.2.0/css/bootstrap-theme.min.css">
<!-- Latest compiled and minified JavaScript -->
<script src="//maxcdn.bootstrapcdn.com/bootstrap/3.2.0/js/bootstrap.min.js"></script>
Looks like this was an issue with IE8 all along. I didn't think it was a browser issue so I never looked for IE8 nav problems but here is a link that documents the issue.
While debugging a JavaScript program I was writing with Firebug, the Script panel stopped working and I got the following message:
I went through all menus and sub-menus I could find but didn't see a option to re-enable this feature. The console.log() command doesn't work in Firebug as well (while it does work in the built-in devtools' console).
How can I re-activate the Firebug Script panel? What may have caused this?
This may have different causes. One of them is described in issue 5646, which is related to going back and forward in the browser history.
In such cases it normally requires a browser restart to work again.
Note that Firebug up to version 1.12 is based on an old debugger API exposed by Firefox called JSD, which is unmaintained and buggy. Since version 2.0 Firebug uses a new debugger API, which fixes this problem.
Coincidentally, I just "fixed" the same problem with my Firebug.
I went through re-installs, options resets and such and nothing helped.
After some investigation it boiled down to the content of the page I was debugging.
I have a function called by jQuery when page load is finished:
<script>
$(onPageLoad);
</script>
Now, this function asks user to enter his name using prompt() function. It appeared that Firebug wouldn't activate script panel until prompt() is closed. That is not a problem when you have just one page opened since you just close the dialog and everything works. However, it is a problem when you have two same pages opened. Script panel is non-operational until you close both prompts.
I was facing this problem recently. I found that my Firebug was not getting updated because my Firefox was stuck on 29.x. Once I updated my Firefox the new Firebug got installed. It supports only Firefox 30+.
Note: I was using OSX v1.9.3.
I was having same problem, and, thanks to Roman Guralink, I figured out that the the dialogue Firefox prompts you to insert the master password was the cause. When you set a master password for all password stored, FFox usually opens a dialogue to ask it just after program started. BUT, sometimes this dialogu goes behind the main window, and you don't notice it is there.
I created a new Phonegap 2.5 project from scratch, and I've been trying to load an external URL in it, but I keep getting input boxes popping up on startup before loading the actual URL. I first get a pop-up with the URL of the website, then in the input box it says "DeviceInfo","Device652321624". If I click Cancel, it pops up 2 more times before loading the website. On the website itself, it loads some relative URLs, but others cause the entire page to refresh and the input boxes to pop up again.
I set the URL by setting <content src="http://phonegap.example.com" />, which is just a regular website with Javascript. I even tried commenting out all Phonegap specific code (no more ondeviceready calls), but it still causes the problem. http://www.google.com loads for me, so I'm not sure what else to check. And it works with the Android version that I've developed.
If it helps, I've also seen this message in the XCode log: Resetting plugins due to page load.
I've had the exact same problem today.
I fixed it by checking the include of the cordova.js file (this js is generated when you create the project using the create command.
( called cordova.js in the renamed cordova project version. probably phonegap.js in phonegap ?)
anyway my include was :
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/cordova.js"></script>
whereas je js file was in the project root :
I changed it to
<script type="text/javascript" src="cordova.js"></script>
and every things is fine now.
also, the 'create' command for Android generate a different js file. make sur that the new one generated for ios is used.
hope that helps !
Problem is you are using android's cordova.js instead of ios's cordova.js.
Just make sure you are using the proper one.
The company website is DNN-based: http://www.mrisoftware.com. This morning I was alerted that links "don't work", but nothing has changed today, so I'm stumped.
I verified that this is the case in Internet Explorer, although Firefox and Chrome are fine. The behavior: when the link is clicked on, it focuses, but the target URL doesn't resolve. A right-click opens in a new tab. I've tried poking around for answers on Google but this doesn't seem to be a common enough problem to have obvious answers at the top, and I'm stumped.
Naturally, the site was developed by an outside contractor, so we don't have a Web person here I can just ask (apart from me...and I'm, as above, stumped.)
I tested it locally, and it seems that these two lines are causing the problem:
<script src="http://munchkin.marketo.net/munchkin.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script>mktoMunchkin("155-CYD-020");</script>
They add the following line to every <a href=""> tag:
_mchInsLnk="true"
This causes them to not function right.
Based on what you and #MarcVeens have said it looks like the marketing analytics firm your company uses (Marketo) updated their link tracking script and broke IE8 in the process.
You can contact their support here, I imagine they are aware of the problem but there are no updates on their company blog.
As a temporary workaround you could use the following code which targets all versions of IE save for IE8 (the '!' in !IE8 is the NOT operator).
<!--[if !IE 8]>
<script src="http://munchkin.marketo.net/munchkin.js" type="text/javascript"> </script>
<script>mktoMunchkin("155-CYD-020");</script>
<![endif]-->
I just updated the jQuery Mobile version of our client book-in page to the latest 1.0a4.1 and I need some help debugging a window sizing issue off-site (I'm not on location).
The page runs on an iPad at the store so clients can book in their own cases. However, the page is being displayed like it's on an iPhone with huge lettering. "Emulating" with Ripple shows everything as it should, though.
I can't debug it from here and I'm not using any other CSS besides the base 1.0a4.1 stylesheets. How do I force jQuery Mobile to display the page as if on an iPad?
Here is a screenshot sent by the store clerk:
I didn't have the time to test it or try the fix, so it's still a guess, but at least based on your code inspection ;)
ok, so you put a meta viewport in your page and JQM also pops in a little
<meta content="width=device-width,minimum-scale=1,maximum-scale=1" name="viewport">.
As I said - I didn't test it, but I expect a collision. I have read somewhere that JQM was supposed to stop putting those metatags there... Try fiddling with that metatag a bit.
Also - see if the alpha4 or 4.1 release notes (on the blog) say something about viewports.
