our company is having an app made and our app developer is providing this service in-kind. They asked for icon files which I need to prepare for them.
Is there anyway I can preview what the app icon will look like, directly on my iPhone/iPad? I have Adobe Creative Suite (for preparing the graphics), but don't have any iOs developer tools.
Thanks!
If you have a mac, you can download XCode for free and preview your icon with the simulator.
I have ecountered this a few times. And there are a number of ways to do this.
1) Create the icon in png format and upload it to the HTML directory of your webserver. Name the icon 'apple-touch-icon.png'. Point safari on your phone to the url and hit the 'share' button and click the "add to home screen" button. Safari will add that link as an icon to your homescreen and use the "apple-touch-icon.png" as the icon for the link.
2) LiveView Screen caster is a great app for previewing in semi-real time your screen designs on the device. http://www.zambetti.com/projects/liveview/ If you create the icon in the right dimensions and you can preview it on device that way. (My mistake, I actually thought there was a PC version of liveView, but appears there isn't)
Try this iOS App, works great. It connects to your Photoshop, mirrors Photoshop's canvas onto your iOS device.

I'd just send my icon files (pngs for example) to my iPad via e-mail or Dropbox. :)
I made a tool that lets you upload an icon and it will text you a link that you can add to your home screen and preview the icon.

I am using swift to build a mobile app. I see some Android apps support showing in a smaller size on top-right on the home screen. I wonder how I can acheive this on iOS. Does it require any kind of permission?
Below is a screenshot about YouTube app show on the top-right of the homescreen.
The only comparable thing in iOS is for videos on an iPad — not every iPad supports it. It's called Picture In Picture.
I'm working on iOS application (iPhone, iPad) and little confused about the app icon stuff. I'm using XCAssets and my app supports version>=8.3. So,the image below shows what I've selected from XCAssets and I've placed all these images.
I've looked into multiple links on Google and SO but getting confused e.g this link App icons iOS.
App icon for iTunes Connect. The above mentioned link states that we need to add Artwork icon for iTunes (1024x1024), but i don't know where to add that. I've checked this answer, but probably it's outdated now as i can't see any such options on iTunes Connect
What are "CarPlay" icons for?
What is "iOS icon is pre-rendered"
Please answer the above mentioned points. Any help in this regard is highly appreciated. Thanks
.
In addition to Wottle's answer,
Answer to the artwork icon point: We have to add app icon on itunes connect. For that you need to go into your app and have to update it in AppVersion/AppIcon as shown in figure attached. then click on "Save".
Ofcourse, this method will change with time (As apple makes update in itunes UI often). Right now, it's the way to do it.
The Artwork icon will be sent to Apple on the iTunes Connect site when you enter your application metadata for a release of your app. You do not put it in the XCAssets.
CarPlay icons are if your app supports CarPlay, Apple's iOS interface for car infotainment systems. Not needed if you app doesn't support CarPlay.
"iOS icon is pre-rendered" is a setting that will determine whther iOS addes a glare to the icon in iOS 6 and before. It should have no effect on apps installed and run on iOS 7 or later.
I need to build a tutorial page for my extension and I want to prepend icons to the labels (Share Button icon and Photos app icon). I have found a way to add Share Button icon but I don't know how I can add the Photos app icon using iOS APIs.
To find all the template icons from Apple go to this site. The camera icon is included in this list.
BUT!
Don't use Apple app icons, images, or screenshots in your designs. Apple designs are copyrighted and can’t appear in your UI unless they are provided by the system.
Reference.
I'm currently building a WatchOS2 app.
Everything works fine, except that when my app is listed in the MyWatch app on my iPhone, it is displayed without the icon.
I googled a lot, but haven't found any hints on the required icon (size, name, location, ...), or hints on which icon will be used from the MyWatch app.
Thanks for any hints on this.
Use this website for generating app icons for all platforms:-

Upload a 1024*1024 pixel app icon and this website will take care of the rest
Make sure that you are putting your icons ".png" files into the asset catalog in the main watch app folder, not the app "extension" folder. Next, note that the files under "Apple Watch Companion Settings" will be the ones that show up in the Apple Watch app on the paired iOS device. The sizes should be 58px for the 2x and 87px for the 3x. To get the files in the proper location, all you need to do is drag and drop them into your "Assets.xcassets" folder for the Apple Watch app.
As far as getting it to show up on the iOS simulator, I cannot get it to show up either. When I run the same apps on the actual watch and phone though, the icons show up just fine inside of the Apple Watch app on my iPhone.

Is there a way to emulate an iphone, so that flash does not appear ? For example if I visit YouTube, I don't want to see the Flash player in an emulator.
Thanks
Download Xcode for free if you have a mac and you can use the iphone simulator bundled with it. See this link on How to run iPhone emulator without opening Xcode
try safari browser. select Develop, User Agent, iPhone (or iPad or iPod Touch) from that menu.
if the Developp menu is not found then, Show Develop menu in menu bar in the Advanced Preferences
