Till yesterday only I was able to test my applications both on iPhone simulator as well as iPad simulator. But now I can run the application only on iPad simulator. It is working fine on iPad simulator. But if I select iPhone simulator and try to run the application, the iPhone simulator does not even show up. I am not able to understand the reason behind. I have checked all the settings repeatedly again and again.
Can please some one guide me in the right direction?
Make sure your project's Build Settings has iPhone/iPad selected for the Targeted Device Family setting under the Deployment section.
Here's what happened to me ... when I updated to the latest version of XCode (4.3.2) I didn't bother to uninstall the previous version. I mistakenly opened my iOS 5.1 targeted project in the older version of XCode that does not know about 5.1 and as a result the simulator was not available. So i would check for the following:
See which version of XCode you're currently running
Try checking your iOS Deployment Target ... (Targets -> Deployment). If iOS 5.1 is selected change it to iOS 5.0 (the simulator will show up immediately)
Reference:
Xcode 4 - IOS - Simulator not available as build target
change iOS Deployment Target as simulator iOS in build setting like simulator OS is 7.0 and iOS Deployment Target is 7.1 so simulator is not display

I own an iPhone 5s. It is running iOS 12. I can't upgrade it to iOS 13. The problem is that I can't install and test my apps I made in Xcode, because new Xcode requires iOS 13. Is there anyway I can make Xcode be able to install apps on devices running older versions of iOS.
Select the Project, Settings, Info and change iOS Deployment Target to the lowest version you want:
Yes there is! In your project configuration, click on your app in the Targets menu.
Then, under "Deployment Info", you can change the target iOS version for your app.
I have the Xcode Version 6.0.1 (6A317) on Mac OS X 10.9.5 with all iOS 8 simulators. I have also downloaded the iOS 7.1 simulators.
I am developing an app for iOS 8 and iOS 7.
The problem I encounter is that Xcode 6 doesn't show the iOS 7.1 simulators in the devices menu. At some point it did show them but on my newly created Xcode 6 project it does not.
I was looking at some stackoverflow solutions.I have addded the iOS 7.1 simulators Window - Devices - SIMULATORS. They are also checked with "Show in the Run Destionations Menu",however they are not shown.
I found a workaround by setting the Project and Target Deployment Target to 7.1. However, this is a stupid solution since for every test I need to manually switch them forth and back 7.1-8.0
This is my first ipad app and it worked perfectly under Xcode 5.1.1. iOS 7 and iOS 8 (CREATED UNDER Xcode 5.1.1.). Now I have created a project in Xcode 6.0.1. and the project doesn't have the simulators showing correctly and 95% of the app doesn't work.
I am new to iOS development but I suppose that this is a bug, but I am unsure. Please help.
The deployment target is the minimum OS version you intend to support.
As you stated, you need to set the deployment target to 7.1 in order to see the 7.1 simulators. If your deployment target is 8.0, the 7.1 simulators will not be available in the run destinations menu. This is the correct behavior because you can't run on iOS 7.1 if your deployment target is 8.0.
I already had deployment target 7.0 and simulator still wasn't available for 7.1.
I fixed the issue though by going into Xcode preferences, selected Downloads and re-downled the missing 7.1 simulators under 'Components'. Although I previously had 7.1 simulator, the Xcode 6 upgrade had seemed to remove them.
I downloaded ios 10.3.1 version in xcode 9.4
But I only can select the ios 11 version I already have.
I rebooted OS and restarted Xcode already. I also can see ios 10 simulator when I select "add additional simulators"
There are ios10, 11 simulator both of them. I don't know how to use ios 10 simulators in xcode that I already downloaded.
Change Deployment Target from iOS 11.x to iOS 10.x
(Xcode shows simulator in a device list with iOS version >= Deployment Target.)
If I understand your problem correctly, changing Deployment target should help. It can be found in General section of settings shown when you first launch the app.
To use that the project compatibility should be lesser. That means the Deployment target in your app should be from iOS 10.
Go to project target settings. Deployment target --> 10.x
As the previous answers didn't help me, I'll describe my solution.
The deployment target doesn't always solve the problem, as well as creating a new scheme. The simulators don't appear automatically.
Press Add Additional Simulators
Choose Simulators tab
Create a new device simulator. Choose Device Type and OS Version whichever available
Your simulator should appear
I am starting iOS development. I have created an application and I am using Xcode 5.0.2, and I'm running the iOS Simulator for an iPhone 5. I want to test my application in the Simulator for an iPhone 4.
Is any tool like Genymotion Emulator (for Android) to run test my application on iPhone 4?
You can choose the version of simulator from Xcode itself. Pls check the image for better understanding
I don't think it's possible in XCode, but if you have a developer account, you can achieve this by using real device.
Change the deployment target in project properties (general tab):
Though with my Xcode 5.1.1, I can only reach the 6.0 as the lowest version.
I recently got a new dev machine and downloaded the latest xcode 4.5. It came with IOS 6 only so I went and got sdk 5.0 and 5.1 from older xcodes.
The device im testing on in running ios 5.1 and I'd like to keep it that way for the moment.
In my project settings I have base sdk set to ios 5.1.
The trouble is that when I try to debug on my ios 5.1 device xcode complains that I need to connect an iOS device with a recent enough version of iOS to run my application.
How can I solve this problem?
You can surely run your app on a iOS 5.1 device when using Xcode 4.5 - I am doing that at the very present moment.
Have you checked in Xcode organizer if your device is configured for development? Go to the Organizer (one of the top-left icons), select your device from the lefthand list and click on "use for development" (if available).
Hope this helps.
I have xCode 4.5 like you and I have an iPod Touch 3G 5.1.1 which works perfectly with iOS 6 SDK.
The SDK Number doesn't tell you that it only works for that firmware.
In your Project settings under targets you can define the sdk, not the sdk you build with(this is 6.0) but youcan tell what the minOS is
Try restarting with your 5.1 device plugged in.
My iPod 5.1.1 is provisioned and has been used for development. If I choose the scheme "iOS Device" Xcode 4.5.2 refuses to run, telling me "Xcode cannot run using selected device". However it does work when I set the scheme to "robert's iPod" (or whatever). This choice doesn't show up right away when I plug the device in, and sometimes I seem to need to quit and restart Xcode and/or iTunes (or reboot) in order to see it.
