Delphi TZipMaster - how to use the Find method? - delphi

Using Delphi XE, TZipMaster 1.91 (latest)
I want to get the file name of first file name matching the FSpec arg that is passed to the Find function. However, I get an access violation when calling this function.

Try something like:

As find is failing, what you are effectively trying is to get the file name from a nil TZMDirEntry. Basically the same as:

If the call to Find fails, you don't get back a valid TZMDirEntry instance, so you can't access the FileName property.
Try assigning the result of Find to a variable and check it for validity before trying to access its properties or methods. Maybe something like this. The documentation shows that TZMDirEntry is an abstract class, so you might need to use a descendent class instead.

How can I effectively check if a string contains one of a few sub strings?
Suppose I have a string:
`Hi there, <B>my</B> name is Joe <DIV>.</DIV> Hello world. `
How can I check if the string contains either <B> OR <DIV> OR ?
I could do a simple:
Result := (Pos('<B>', S) > 0) or
(Pos('<DIV>', S) > 0) or
(Pos(' ', S) > 0);
But this seems to be very inefficient since it make N (at worst) passes and my strings are considerably large.
Slightly better version:

You can also build some table of stop-symbols and improve speed. It's kinda complex topic, so I can just suggest you to read, for example, book Bill Smyth "Computing Patterns in Strings".

out parameter and "ShowMessage" function

I have a function declare like this :

The problem is in the design of your interface and the use of PChar.
OutValues := PChar(Copy(OutValue,2,Length(OutValue)-1));
This is implemented by making an implicit, hidden, local string variable which holds the value
Copy(OutValue,2,Length(OutValue)-1)
When the function returns, that string variable is destroyed and so OutValues points at deallocated memory. Sometimes your program appears to work but that's really just down to chance. Any small change can disturb that, as you have observed.
The problem is easy enough to fix. Simply use string parameters rather than PChar. This will make the code easier to read as well as making it work correctly.

DELPHI STRING: Pull a last name from a full name

I am trying to manipulate a string and pull only certain data from it. I need to do this on a record pulled from a database that gives me the full name of a person. I need to pull only the last name from the string and store it as a variable. Is there a way that I can do this?
Example: SQL query pulls the full field "Mary Ellen Jones" I need to extract only the Jones from the string so I can store it in a variable for further processing.
I thought maybe AnsiRightStr would work but the problem is needing to give it a set integer to pull from the right. Maybe a way to count the characters after the final space allowing me to use AnsiRightStr(string,int) for this? Any help at all is appreciated.
Additional thought: Would replacing the spaces with a delimiter say :: and then parsing that data into a Stringlist followed by allowing me to pull the last index of the string list be possible?
Several valid options have been presented so far. None of them address the situation if say the name is Something like "John St. James, Jr." Is this impossible?

As soon as a match is found, mark that as the start of last name

These two functions together pull off what I needed to do. There is also the initlists function which is clunky and ugly and I need to work on so I didn't post it here.

GetFormFieldNames not always working

I am trying to find out which form and element belongs too. The code that I now understand from this website:

By looking at that code and comparing it with the active id, I can find the form it is in. However it does not work for that website. for some reason I think it has to do with htmldocument3 adn that this code is for htmldocument2. But I am not sure.
so my question is How can I extract a tstringlist from this website with all the elements names in them? hope you can help!

One complication with locating form elements in a web page is that the page may contain frames and there may be forms in any of the frames. Basically, you have to iterate through all the frames and the forms in each frame. Once you get the form as an IHTMLFormElement, use Cryer's function to get the form element names.
The example link you gave does not have any frames and you should have had no problems getting your list of form elements, unless you tried to get the form by name because it had no name assigned. I had no problem getting the form element names and values using the following procedure

The logic in your example is faulty, 1. when there is only 1 form on the web page the list of form elements is never extracted, 2. the repeat loop will result in a access violation unless the the tag in "theid" is found

If your collection object is a TCollection, then it has an Items property (which you should have been about to see in the documentation, or in the source code). Use that and its Count property to write a loop where you inspect each item to see whether it matches your target.
