I have a UITableView that is put onto a view based app. it is wired up properly because I can initially send it data. The problem is clearing the table. I can clear the NSMutableArray but the data still shows up in the table.
-(void)logout {
NSLog(#"LOGOUT");
[friends removeAllObjects];
NSLog(#"%#", friends);
[tableView reloadData];
}
and here is the cell for row at index path:
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectZero];
}
// Set up the cell...
NSString *cellValue = [friends objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
cell.textLabel.text = cellValue;
return cell;
}
Create a dedicated reference
#property(nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITableView *tableViewReference;
Reload that reference in the logout method.

I have a tableview which shows data. But i want to customize the cells and i need a little help. So i have a nib for the tableview (HistoryViewController.xib). I just added the class and nib to customize the tableview cells (HistoryViewTableCell).
What are the steps i have to do next? I have this code already:
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
return [tableData count];
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *simpleTableIdentifier = #"TableItem";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:simpleTableIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:simpleTableIdentifier];
}
NSDictionary * tempDictionary = [tableData objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
cell.textLabel.text = [tempDictionary objectForKey:#"PickupAddress"];
return cell;
}
Try this link ..
Custom UITableViewCell Using Interface Builder
good demo with project try this
Customize Table View Cells for UITableView
hope it helps.
Please try below code -
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
HistoryViewTableCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"HistoryViewTableCell"];
if (cell == nil) {
// Create a temporary UIViewController to instantiate the custom cell.
UIViewController *temporaryController = [[UIViewController alloc] initWithNibName:#"HistoryViewTableCell" bundle:nil];
// Grab a pointer to the custom cell.
cell = (HistoryViewTableCell *)temporaryController.view;
}
return cell;
}
OR
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
HistoryViewTableCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"HistoryViewTableCell"];
if (cell == nil) {
// Load the top-level objects from the custom cell XIB.
NSArray *topLevelObjects = [[NSBundle mainBundle] loadNibNamed:#"HistoryViewTableCell" owner:self options:nil];
// Grab a pointer to the first object (presumably the custom cell, as that's all the XIB should contain).
cell = [topLevelObjects objectAtIndex:0];
}
return cell;
}
I'm having a really annoying problem that I'm not sure WHY it's happening.
I have the Table view set, I have the correct Identifier in the Cell, but it still gives me "unable to dequeue a cell with identifier Cell - must register a nib or a class for the identifier or connect a prototype cell in a storyboard" when I run it.
the code looks like this
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath];
NSDictionary *event = [self.events objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
cell.textLabel.text = [event objectForKey:#"name"];
return cell;
}
Any help would be great, cause I want to rip my hair. The table is connected to that class, and then Cell has that #"Cell" Identifier
Re-check all 4 steps
STEP 1:
Your cellForRowAtIndexPath should look like this
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:nil];
}
NSDictionary *event = [self.events objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
cell.textLabel.text = [event objectForKey:#"name"];
return cell;
}
STEP 2: Your "ViewController.m" File should look like this
#import "ViewController.h"
#interface ViewController ()<UITableViewDataSource,UITableViewDelegate>
#end
STEP 3:
PLEASE CHECK - Click on view controller move to Connection inspector - See if any other unwanted connections are present in this inspector.
STEP 4: Tableview cell attribute inspector should like this]
Right, you need to register a cell for reuse. This can be done programmatically after you've created your table view like this:
static NSString *cellIdentifier = #"Cell";
[tableView registerClass:[UITableViewCell class] forCellReuseIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
Or this can also be done in Interface Builder by selecting the cell and navigating to the attributes inspector and changing the cell's id.
Instead of:
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath];
Try:
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if that does not work after
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
add:
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:nil];
}
You are not checking for cell is allocate or not.. You can try below code..
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
// add a placeholder cell while waiting on table data
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:nil] autorelease];
}
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
NSString *CellIdentifier = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"cell %d",indexPath.row];
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
cell = nil;
if (cell == nil)
{
cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease];
NSDictionary *event = [self.events objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
cell.textLabel.text = [event objectForKey:#"name"];
}
return cell;
}
In the Document Outline, verify that your prototype UITableViewCell is a child of the UITableView.
In the Attribute Inspector, verify that your Cell Identifier and Cell Style are properly set in storyboard:
In the Identity Inspector, verify that you have the class set to UITableViewCell:
Trying to set and access nib tableview cell. Basically the same as creating uitableview with a prototype tableviewcell and setting its identifier and accessing it through
-(UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
//Fill table in with data
static NSString *cellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleSubtitle reuseIdentifier:cellIdentifier];
}
Question is how would you do this as a nib. As nib IB doesn't have prototype option?
-(UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
UITableViewCell *cell = [self.tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"Cell"];
MPMediaItem *song = [self.songsList objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
NSString *songTitle = [song valueForProperty: MPMediaItemPropertyTitle];
NSString *durationLabel = [song valueForProperty: MPMediaItemPropertyGenre];
cell.textLabel.text = songTitle;
cell.detailTextLabel.text = durationLabel;
return cell;
}
-(void)viewDidLoad {
[self.tableView registerNib:[UINib nibWithNibName:#"MusicViewController" bundle:nil] forCellReuseIdentifier:#"Cell"];
}
Create a custom tableviewCell with the nib file.After creation you have three files YourCustomCell.h YourCustomCell.m and YourCustomCell.xib
Add the IBOutlet in YourCustomCell.h and connect them in YourCustomCell.xib with respective labels.
Now in cellForRowAtIndexPath: add the following:
YourCustomCell *yourCustomCell = [self.tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:#"Cell"];
yourCustomCell.labelInCustomCell.textLabel.text = songTitle;
yourCustomCell.detailsLabelInCustomCell.textLabel.text = durationLabel;
return yourCustomCell;
Hope this help you.
You make your cell in the xib file and then in code (probably in viewDidLoad) register the nib with registerNib:forCellReuseIdentifier:. In cellForRowAtIndexPath, you just dequeue a cell with the same identifier that you passed to the register method. No need to put in the if (cell == nil) clause, because it will never be nil.
i'm trying to do a selection list in UITableView but whenever i tap in a row, two row are marked. For example if i tap the first row it adds a checkmark to row = 0 and row = 11. I think the problem is caused by reuse of cells but i don't understand how solve it.
I attach my code .h:
#interface tabellaViewController : UITableViewController
#property (nonatomic, strong) NSArray *listaingredienti;
#end
and my code .m:
- (void)viewDidLoad
{
[super viewDidLoad];
_listaingredienti = [NSArray arrayWithObjects:#"formaggio", #"crudo", #"pomodorini", #"fossa", #"bresaola", #"funghi", #"salame", #"fontina", #"rucola", #"radicchio", #"peperoni", #"ciccioli", #"squacquerone", #"gorgonzola", #"salsiccia", #"cipolla", #"feta", #"acciughe", #"pecorino", nil];
}
- (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView
{
return 1;
}
- (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section
{
return [_listaingredienti count];
}
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier forIndexPath:indexPath];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
}
cell.textLabel.text = [_listaingredienti objectAtIndex:indexPath.row];
return cell;
}
- (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath
{
[tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath:[tableView indexPathForSelectedRow]
animated:NO];
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath];
if (cell.accessoryType == UITableViewCellAccessoryNone) {
cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryCheckmark;
} else if (cell.accessoryType == UITableViewCellAccessoryCheckmark) {
cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryNone;
}
}
I've seen UITableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath add additional checkmark at tap where there is a similar post but i already use dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier.
Anyone can help me?
Ok,
i'm just solved my question. Actually, the problem was in reuse of cells, but this code fix it.
Just replace in cellForRowAtIndexPath::
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
with:
NSString *CellIdentifier = [NSString stringWithFormat:#"MyReuseIdentifier %d",indexPath.row];
I have data and image in cells of UITableView. I want to change image of a particular cell,
I have a code with each cell.
I am not able to find the way to iterate the tableview for cell.
here is snap shot of my tableview function.
- (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView
cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath {
NSString *cellText = nil;
NSArray *keys = [[[self packageItems] allKeys]
sortedArrayUsingSelector:#selector(localizedCaseInsensitiveCompare:)];
cellText = [keys objectAtIndex:[indexPath row]];
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
if (cell == nil) {
cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc]
initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault
reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier];
[cell setAccessoryType:UITableViewCellAccessoryDisclosureIndicator];
}
cell.imageView.image=[UIImage imageNamed:#"checkbox.png"];
//cell.imageView.image=[UIImage imageNamed:#"checkbox-checked.png"];
return cell;
}
There is another function where i want to change cell image to cell.imageView.image=[UIImage imageNamed:#"checkbox-checked.png"];
- (void)OnAction
{
static NSString *CellIdentifier = #"Cell";
NSIndexPath *indexPath = [[NSIndexPath alloc] initWithIndex:0];
UITableViewCell *cell = [self.tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath ];
cell.imageView.image=[UIImage imageNamed:#"checkbox-checked.png"];
}
If you wont to change something in table view with you function you dont have to make new cell, just modify actual cell. Just make condition in your cellForRowAtIndexPath delegate:
if(indexPath == indexToModify) {
cell.imageView.image=[UIImage imageNamed:#"checkbox-checked.png"];
} else {
cell.imageView.image=[UIImage imageNamed:#"checkbox.png"];
}
and in your - (void)OnAction method use in the end:
[self.tableView reloadData];
