Switching UIViews without changing the top bar - ios

I'm new to ios programming and I can't figure this out. I have a view-based application with a navigation bar and a "custom" bar under the navigation bar (An image with two UIButtons on it). Under this two bars I have two UIViews that must be shown at the press of the corresponding button on the "custom" bar, but the top bars must remain the same the whole time.
Do you have any ideas how to do this?

You can simply add both the views to your viewControllers subview and use the hidden property of the views to show/hide the correct view.

InputAccessoryView covers the bottom bar

Any idea how to get an inputAccessoryView to anchor to the tab bar rather than the bottom of the screen?
I have created a UIViewController and overridden the following methods:

By the looks of it the view controller adds the view to the window rather than the current view controllers view, which would explain its positioning. However if I remove the line:
[self.keyboardInputAccessoryView removeFromSuperview];
I get a crash when I tap in the textview of my accessory view:
The view hierarchy is not prepared for the constraint:<NSLayoutConstraint:0x7fa0c2ca5f80 BRKeyboardInputBarView:0x7fa0c2d6fad0.bottom == UIInputSetContainerView:0x7fa0c295a2c0.bottom>
So I guess what I am asking is what is the correct way to add a keyboard accessory view so that it plays nicely with auto layout and avoids the crash, but also anchors itself to the view and not the window?
What you are seeing is the right behaviour.
The results you are seeing is because of the fact that UIViewController is a UIResponder subclass. By overriding the inputAccessoryView and returning an instance of a view, UIViewController will take care of placing that view at the bottom of the screen and animating it appropriately when keyboard appears or disappears.
If you want to add this bar on top of your keyboard, then you need to set the property inputAccessoryView of a textField/textView to your custom view.

How to remove UINavigationBar label.text from second UIView Controller which is coming in first View controller?

I have one label which I am showing on UINavigationBar using addSubView Property and I am getting like:
But when I am going to secondView Controller, it is looking like:
It appears on Back Button of Second Controller. So how to remove "Status" Label from second UI.

Don't add subviews to the navigation bar. It's not made for that.
I recommend you to read the iOS human interface guidelines and to use a UIBarButtonItem to properly add controls to the navigation bar.

You should tag your subview and search for it among subviews of navigation bar in your second view controller and then [subview removeFromSuperview].
You shouldn't add subviews to your navigation bar, you can use navigation items to achieve that kind of stuff. You can init a UIBarButtonItem with initWithCustomView: which has that label in it.

Strange UISearchDisplayController view offset behavior in iOS 7 when embedded in navigation bar

I am building an iOS 7-only app. I am trying to set a UISearchDisplayController into the navigation bar.
I have it set up like this: In the storyboard, I added a "Search Bar and Search Display Controller" to my view controller's view, and set it at (0,0) relative to the top layout guide. I set constraints to pin to left, top and right. (I played with the constraints, i removed them completely, it doesn't matter) On top of that I have my Table view. When I added the search bar to the view in the storyboard, it automatically setup outlets for searchDisplayController and searchBar delegate. In code I have self.searchDisplayController.displaysSearchBarInNavigationBar = YES; I have two problems:
1) Without any buttons showing for the search bar (Interface builder -> select search bar -> Options: none selected) the search bar is in the middle of the screen:
If I click on the navigation bar, it starts editing the search bar:
notice also that the dark overlay appears to be offset from the navigation bar. It seems to me that the space is the same height as the navigation bar. Like it has been shifted down by that much. Also, when it displays the search results, the top of the content view is shifted down by the same amount (more pictures follow), which brings me to the second problem.
2) I messed around with it for a while and decided to check the option to have it show the cancel button. Now I have the search bar embedded in the nav bar correctly, but the overlay is still shifted down:
Again, when the search results table view appears, it is shifted down by the same amount (notice the scroll bar on the right side):
Even more bizarrely, I set a border on the search display controller's tableview layer, and it appears correct:
I have never used the UISearchDisplayController before and I unfamiliar with how to set it up, but functionally it works fine. I have read some other similar posts but the only advice is to hack it up by adjusting frames and setting manual offsets. I'd prefer to know what is causing this, is it a bug? Something I'm doing wrong? If it's a bug I can wait for a fix. It seems like such a basic thing that a thousand people must have done without any problem so I feel like I'm not setting it up correctly somehow. Thanks for you input.
I remember running into the same exact problem that you are observing.There could be a couple of solutions you can try.
If you are using storyboards
You should click on the view controller or TableView Controller which you have set up for your tableview and go to its attribute inspector and look under ViewController section and set the Extend Edges section to be under Top Bars.
If you are not using storyboards you can manually set the settings using the viewcontrollers edgesForExtendedLayout property and that should do the trick. I was using storyboards.
In my case, using storyboards, I had to check both Under Top Bars and Under Opaque Bars and leave Under Bottom Bars unchecked.
In my case, I actually had to uncheck all the Extended Edges boxes (essentially the same as programmatically setting Extended Edges to UIRectEdgeNone I believe) in my Storyboard in order to stop my search bar from offsetting itself. Thank you guys!

My problem was just Adjust scroll view inserts. After change to false I didn't have problem
I had a same problem. And I solve this issue with adding view object under the tableview.
Add new ViewController on the Storyboard
Drag TableView to the new VC
Drag Table Cell to the TableView
Make a Connection for TableView DataSource, TableView Delegate to the new VC
I had very similar behavior happening. For me, the solution was to uncheck Extend Edges Under Top Bar in the storyboard settings for the parent view controller (I've turned off transparent navbars, not sure if that effects anything). If you're not using storyboard, you have to set [UIViewController edgesForExtendedLayout].
From the Apple docs:
This property is only applied to view controllers that are embedded in containers, such as UINavigationController or UITabBarController. View controllers set as the root view controller do not react to this property. Default value is UIRectEdgeAll.
Unfortunately none of the above solutions worked for me, I'm using a UITableViewController.

Go to storyboard.
Click on the view controller.
Go to attribute inspector under the ViewController section.
Set the Extend Edges section to be Under Top Bars and Under Opaque Bars.
Make sure to un-check Under Bottom Bars.

iOS7 Side menu status bar color transition. As in the iOS7 Facebook App

The iOS7 Facebook App has a right side menu that can be shown by swiping right to left or clicking on the upper right button. When this menu is opened the there is a color transition in the entire status bar from blue to black and vice-versa when closed.

This looks like a very good solution for iOS Apps with side menus.
Any ideas or ways about how to accomplish this?

I managed to find a very simple, elegant way to do this, that mimics the Facebook app functionality perfectly.
Here's my approach:
Create view with status bar frame
Set view background color to black, opacity to 0
Add view as subview to any root view (you need a view that will cover both the center view and the menus, so that it won't be confined to any single view - a good option for this is the container view controller used by your menu controller implementation)
Set view's opacity in your menu controller implementation's menu animation method
Here's my specific implementation, using MMDrawerController:
I subclassed MMDrawerController (I actually already had a subclass for using MMDrawerController with storyboards), and added this code to the class's init method:

I also added self.statusBarView as a private property.
The first section of code creates a view, configures it, and adds it as a subview of the MMDrawerController subclass's view. The OSVersionIsAtLeastiOS7() method is a custom method that simplifies the check to see if the device is running iOS 7 (if it isn't, your custom view will show up below the status bar, which you don't want).
The second section of code is MMDrawerController's setDrawerVisualStateBlock method, which sets the animations code to be performed when a menu is being opened and closed. The first few lines of code are boilerplate code that sets one of the prebuilt animations blocks to each menu (I wanted parallax on the left, but nothing on the right). The relevant code is the last line of the block: [weakSelf.statusBarView setAlpha:percentVisible];, which sets the status bar view's opacity to match the percentage that the menu is currently open. This allows for the smooth cross animation you see in the Facebook app. You'll also notice I've assigned self to a variable weakSelf, so as to avoid the "retain cycle" compiler warning.
This is my specific approach using MMDrawerController and a subclass, which I did more for convenience because I already had the subclass in place, than because it is necessarily the best approach or the only way to do it. It could probably be implemented in several other ways, using MMDrawerController without a subclass, or using any other side-drawer menu implementation.
The ending result is a smooth fading to black animation behind the status bar, exactly as you see in the new Facebook app.
I've been trying to accomplish the same thing. The method I am using to do this is based on the following concepts:
A background image with a height of 64 points will fill both the
UINavigationBar and the UIStatusBar.
A background image with a height of 44 points will fill the UINavigationBar and leave the
UIStatusBar black.
You can add an subview to the top of the current navigationController's view and it will sit underneath the UIStatusBar.
So, first, you need to create two images with your desired UINavigationBar look:
A 640x128px image to cover navigation bar and status bar (ImageA)
And a 640x88px image to cover the navigation bar but leave the status bar black (ImageB).
In the application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions: method, set the background of your UINavigationBar with ImageA with [[UINavigationBar appearance] setBackgroundImage:[UIImage imageNamed:#"ImageA.png"] forBarMetrics:UIBarMetricsDefault];
When the side menu starts to open, you are going to want switch the UINavigationBar so it uses ImageB and create a view which you will add underneath the UIStatusBar. Here is some sample code for doing just that:

As the side menu animates open, or as the user pans the menu, all you need to do then is adjust the alpha level of the UIStatusBar overlay. When the side menu is fully open, the UINavigationBar should have ImageB as its background image and the UIStatusBar overlay should have an alpha of 0. When the side menu closes, you'll want to replace the UINavigationBar background with ImageA and remove the UIStatusBar overlay.

UITabBarController and custom control acting as a tabbar

I have a custom tab bar controller subclass and instead of a tab bar, I use a custom UIView.
The problem is that I cannot get my view controllers to appear. I see a white screen and the "tab" if I call
[super setViewControllers:]
I get really odd artefacts as far as appearance goes.
So instead I tried setting the selectedViewController directly. I've kind of drawn a blank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have u removed tabBar & added ur custom tabView.? and keep in mind if remove your tabBar the whole tabBarController will be removed..
So you need to just hide the tabBar from tabBarController and add ur custom UIView in place of tabBar and everything works fine. You have to select the tab index programatically as per the button selection in your custom view.
You can use view Controller containment concept in order to implement custom tabbar.
