How do I get Arabic running on a BlackBerry? I've downloaded various simulators supporting different carriers and I've not seen Arabic offered as an input language.
It seems you want to see arabic text in your simulator.
For that you have to add a language manually on simulator. It can be done on any simulator. (I have added Herbew on my simulator). I recommend you to use JDE's simulator.
To do that you have to find out your simulator's xml file. You can find out in
program files/ Research in motion/ desired JDE/ simulator folder. (e.g. for 9000 you'll get 9000.xml). It's recommended that you have a backup of that file.
Edit that xml file and add <Application>net.rim.blackberry.lang.ar</Application> (I guess that ar is the language code for arabic). Save it and reboot your sim.

Good morning,
I have an iOS app with English and Hebrew localizations and a device set on English.
I need to build the app with Hebrew only for this version (so the app will launch in Hebrew).
I tried to delete en.lproj and remove the references in Xcode, but the app just uses the base localization in the storyboard and the string I use as a parameter in NSLocalizedString, instead of the Hebrew files.
I've also tried to change the development language to Hebrew: How do I change the Development language in Xcode before internationalizing my app?
but that didn't help.
When setting NSUserDefaults-AppleLanguages key in main() it works but not on the first launch.
I would love to use a different implementation for NSLocalizedString so I could manage the localizations myself, but the problem is that English is written from left to right and Hebrew is from right to left, so updating the strings is not enough.
Do you have any idea how can I force the app to launch for every device in the localization that I choose?
Thanks!
I think that I found what was the problem, I left a single image localized in English.
It seems that when there is anything localized to a language, it adds the language to a list of supported languages. Because the device is in English and the app "supports" it, English will be used.
If anyone knows a way to modify this list of supported languages without deleting files, and making it work from the first launch, and maybe even having a different list for each target, please let me know!
Currently I have to test app and set the different fake GPS locations on real IOS 7 devices. On Android I use 'My Fake Location'. Unfortunately, I didn't find the same app for IOS 7.
Any ideas to solve my problem?
When running in debug mode you can use the little arrow button in the debug area (Shift+Cmd+Y) in Xcode to specify a location. There are some presets or you can also add a GPX file.
You can generate GPX files here manually: http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php
(from answer: https://stackoverflow.com/a/17478860/881197)
Create a .GPX file with xcode, then specify your coordinates and when your device connected, hit the little arrow button and select your .GPX file.
You can create multiple files and add lots of coordinates to single .GPX file in order to make some kind of route.
Of course ios7 prohibits creating fake locations on real device.
For testing purpose there are two approches:
1) while device is connected to xcode, use the simulator and let it play a gpx track.
2) for real world testing, not connected to simu, one possibility is that your app, has a special modus built in, where you set it to "playback" mode. In that mode the app has to create the locations itself, using a timer of 1s, and creating a new CLLocation object.
3) A third possibility is described here:

Working with GPX files with Xcode compatibility
I followed the link given by AlexWien and it was extremely useful: https://blackpixel.com/writing/2013/05/simulating-locations-with-xcode.html
But, I spent quite some time searching for how to generate .gpx files with waypoints (wpt tags), as Xcode only accepts wpt tags.
The following tool converts a Google Maps link (also works with Google Maps Directions) to a .gpx file.
https://mapstogpx.com/mobiledev.php
Simulating a trip duration is supported, custom durations can be specified. Just select Xcode and it gets the route as waypoints.
xCode is picky about the GPX file it accepts.
But, in xCode you can create a GPX file with the format it will accept:
And then just change the content of the file to the location you need.
you can do it on real device by run device in Debug mode
Click Debug->Simulate Location -> add .gpx file for your location during run time
I had a similar issue, but with no source code to run on Xcode.
So if you want to test an application on a real device with a fake location you should use a VPN application.
There are plenty in the App Store to choose from - free ones without the option to choose a specific country/city and free ones which assign you a random location or asks you to choose from a limited set of default options.
it seems with XCode 9.2 the way to import .gpx has changed, I tried the ways described here and did not do. The only way worked for me was to drag and drop the file .gpx to the project navigator window on the left. Then I can choose the country in the simulator item.
Hope this helps to someone.
There are one solution for fake GPS in ios simulator and real device. we can use GPX file for fake GPS and simulation.
I followed the step by step guidelines of GPX file use in Xcode with simulation.
Here is full step by step guidelines of GPX file use. And also you can download the GPX file Demo from github.
I'm developing something like file manager for remote filesystem with some basic operations including transferring file(s) between server and iPad and viewing them.
In order to be useful I need my app to open all types of files from other apps (like Mail, Safari, etc.) via "Open in.." dialog to get them into my app, i. e. Dropbox-like behaviour. When I use public.data and public.content, like it is described in this answer (and this), it sometimes work, but most of the time, it isn't. Moreover, iOS 6.1 simulator behaves nondeterministic regarding file handling.
When I Run in Xcode and it launches simulator, it doesn't work. When I let simulator running, Stop in Xcode and then Run in Xcode, it suddenly work. When I completely quit simulator and Run in Xcode I get at start of this loop. Mysterious.
When I run app on physical iPad with iOS 6 and start Safari or Mail and go to some document or attachment in it, [Open in...] dialog appears including my app but tapping does nothing, no reaction.
My goal is to make it work for iOS from 5.1 up.
Base SDK: iOS 6.1
Target: 5.1

I want to change my ios simulator language to swedish, but i can't find this in settings. What can i do now to get swedish language.
It is also possible to set the language and the region via the scheme settings as seen here:
If you are trying to test an application's localisations then there are easier ways than by changing the language on the device.
You can run the apps with a flag to indicate the country:
i.e for Swedish you can use the flag -AppleLanguages (sv)
Of course, on the simulator or the device, you can't run an app with a flag normally, except for when you are building and running it through Xcode, where you can set the launch arguments for each scheme.
I wrote about this in greater detail, with screenshots, and an example project: https://abizern.org/2012/03/18/simple-localisation-testing.html
This works for the simulator and the device, and you don't have to change any of the device settings.
Choose Svenska. You can select the language through the settings just like you would on a real device. Languages are displayed in the target language, not the current language, as displayed in your screenshot.
Tap the row you want, then tap done (click in the case of the simulator). On device, make sure you can navigate back.
For XCode 12
To do this, tap on the active scheme (the name of your app at the left of the active simulator) and then:
Edit Scheme
Run

I am working on a web development project that I want to make sure works well on the BlackBerry browser. As part of both testing and documentation, I want to be able to take screenshots of my application and was wondering where to start.
I see there are a couple of pay applications on BlackBerry App World when I search for screenshot, but I am looking for recommendations or other options. Specifically, I have a Bold 9700 (v5.0.0.296, platform 5.1.0.83).
It appears this feature is built into the iPhone, according to the iPhone User Guide.
Take a screenshot of the iPhone
display: Quickly press and release the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the
same time.
You may want to write you're own app or service to make screenshots.
Use
Display.screenshot(Bitmap bitmap)
or
Display.screenshot(Bitmap bitmap, int x, int y, int width, int height)
Note: you should sign app to use this api
If you have the developer tools installed, you can use "javaloader -u screenshot file.bmp" to capture a screenshot. Otherwise, the easiest way is to install a PC app called Master Control Program which has the capability to capture screenshots as well (as long as you have your device connected to your PC with a USB cable).
I get BlackBerry screenshots in two ways:
-On real devices I connect them to my PC over USB and run javaloader -u screenshot image.bmp from the command line (as Marc says, it's included with the developer tools).
-The BlackBerry Simulator makes it easy to take screenshots by pressing F3 (or choosing Edit -> Save LCD Snapshot from the menu, note you can choose to save directly as a .png, which is handy). You can change which phone model to simulate based on the SDK you have installed. For the 9700 I think you will need the V5.0 OS SDK (I haven't tried that yet), which you can get from here.

I've also heard of something called BB Stream that will actually stream the blackberry screen to your PC. Can't find it anywhere though.
This is a very good guide
