DynamicJasper(on Grails) Purposefully keep column or field blank(empty) - grails

I want to generate a pdf report, where a column(or cell/field) is left blank(empty) on purpose. This column actually does have a value but, I'm choosing not to display it. The column title still needs to be displayed.
Example of where this could be useful:
Blank(empty) column: A comments or notes column down one side of a report.
Blank(empty) cell: A sudoku puzzle print-out.
Much appreciated. DynamicJasper is Awesome! Thanks to the dj-team.

Pete

Glad to announce, solution found for adding an 'empty' column - and in short, it's to create a customExpression.
def cb = ColumnBuilder.getInstance()
cb = cb.setTitle("Notes")
cb = cb.setCustomExpression(new BlankExpression())
AbstractColumn columnNotes = cb.build()
Then add it to the rest of the report.
Class BlankExpression is
public class BlankExpression implements CustomExpression {
public BlankExpression() { }
public Object evaluate(Map fields, Map variables, Map parameters) {
return " ";
}
public String getClassName() {
return String.class.getName();
}
}
But there are a few issues relating to the use of customExpressions and grails.
1st issue: "getNew()" - The examples provided on the DJ website all use "getNew()"
http://dynamicjasper.sourceforge.net/docs/HOWTO%20Create%20Custom%20Expressions.html is an example of DynamicJasper v3.1.3 where as the Grails plugin is based on v.3.0.6 which only has a getInstance() method (deprecated in 3.1.3)
2nd issue: As far as I can see, groovy doesn't allow java-style inline class implementations, thus forcing us to create a separate class file. But this is not a big problem. I might be wrong about this, and please correct me.
Hope this helps you too.

Pete

Auto alignment of data in Xtext

I had one custom parser rule in which I had defined all my keywords such as _self, _for, _loop etc. Because of this, if I type _s and click Ctrl+ space bar, it shows _self.But what I required is even though I type self or SE, it should auto assign as _self.Is it possible? If so, could anyone please suggest a solution for this. Thanks in advance
There are multiple things to be payed attention to
There needs to be a proposal and only one proposal. Otherwise the user has to select the prosal to be applied and no auto insert takes places
Proposals are created based on the error recovery and so you might not get the proposal you are looking for at all
so lets assume you have a grammar like
Model:
greetings+=Greeting*;
Greeting:
'_self' name=ID '!';
and a model file like
SE
Then the error recovery will work fine an a proposal of "_self" will be added to the list of proposals
Proposals are Filtered based on the current prefix in the model. that would be the place you could start customizing.
e.g. this very naive impl
import org.eclipse.xtext.ui.editor.contentassist.FQNPrefixMatcher;
public class MyPrefixMatcher extends FQNPrefixMatcher {
#Override
public boolean isCandidateMatchingPrefix(String name, String prefix) {
return super.isCandidateMatchingPrefix(name, prefix) || super.isCandidateMatchingPrefix(name, "_" + prefix);
}
}
and dont forget to bind
import org.eclipse.xtend.lib.annotations.FinalFieldsConstructor
import org.eclipse.xtext.ui.editor.contentassist.PrefixMatcher
import org.xtext.example.mydsl4.ui.contentassist.MyPrefixMatcher
#FinalFieldsConstructor
class MyDslUiModule extends AbstractMyDslUiModule {
override Class<? extends PrefixMatcher> bindPrefixMatcher() {
return MyPrefixMatcher;
}
}
There is another feature that does not use proposals at all but the text that is actually typed and if it recognizes something then can replace it with something else. this feature is called "Auto Edit". The extension point in xtext for this is IAutoEditStrategy / AbstractEditStrategyProvider

ModelState.IsValid is false - But Which One - Easy Way

In ASP.NET MVC, when we call a post action with some data, we check ModelState and in case some validation error, it would be falst. For a big Enter User Information form, it is annoying to expand each Value and look at the count to see which Key (9 in attached example image) has validation error. Wondering if someone knows an easy way to figure out which element is causing validation error.
In VS2015+, you can use LINQ in the Immediate Window, which means you can just run the following:
ModelState.SelectMany(
x => x.Value.Errors,
(state, error) => $"{state.Key}: {error.ErrorMessage}"
)
I propose to write a method:
namespace System.Web
{
using Mvc;
public static class ModelStateExtensions
{
public static Tuple<string, string> GetFirstError(this ModelStateDictionary modelState)
{
if (modelState.IsValid)
{
return null;
}
foreach (var key in modelState.Keys)
{
if (modelState[key].Errors.Count != 0)
{
return new Tuple<string, string>(key, modelState[key].Errors[0].ErrorMessage);
}
}
return null;
}
}
}
Then during debugging open Immediate Window and enter:
ModelState.GetFirstError()
Sounds like you're looking for debugger enhancements. I recently came across this product in the visual studio gallery.
http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/16acdc63-c4f1-43a7-866a-67ff7022a0ac
I have no affiliation with them, and haven't used it. It's also a trial version and have no idea how much it costs for the full thing.
If you're more focused on the debugger side of things, have a go with the trial copy of OzCode. It enhances the Visual Studio IDE by replacing the usual debugging tooltip with it's own, more powerful, debugging tooltip. It's hard to epxlain with words, check out their website, they have a gallery of features on there.
I've been playing around with the beta for a few weeks, and it's proved a very valuable tool. You can query against data in the debugger using OzCode. For example, you could query items in the ModelState by filtering against the Values collection.

Object Id set as null when saving - AjaxDependencySelection

So I decided to use AjaxDependencySelection Plugin for Grails, and it has proven to be very useful. However, I am trying to implement autoComplete boxes, and it does not seem to be saving the object id when using an Autocompleted selection. Here is my implementation in my gsp
<g:selectPrimary id="template" name="template"
domain='dms.nexusglobal.Template'
searchField='templateName'
collectField='id'
domain2='dms.nexusglobal.Tag'
bindid="template.id"
searchField2='tagName'
collectField2='id'
hidden="hiddenNew"
noSelection="['': 'Please choose Template']"
setId="tag"
value="${documentPartInstance?.template}"/>
<g:selectSecondary id="tag" name="tag"
domain2='dms.nexusglobal.Subtag'
bindid="tag.id"
searchField2='subtagName'
collectField2='id'
autocomp="1"
noSelection="['': 'Please choose Tag']"
setId="subtag"
value="${documentPartInstance?.tag}"/>
<g:autoCompleteSecondary id="subtag" name="subtagId"
domain='dms.nexusglobal.Subtag'
primarybind='tag.id'
hidden='tag'
hidden2='hidden5'
searchField='subtagName'
collectField='id'
value='${documentPartInstance?.subtag}'/>
<input type=hidden id="hidden5" name="subtagId" value="${documentPartInstance?.subtag}"/>
However, everytime I save it, I am presented with this error Column 'subtag_id' cannot be null . Here is my domain class definition for Subtag
class Subtag {
static scaffold = true
String subtagName
static belongsTo = [tag : Tag]
public Subtag()
{
}
public Subtag(String s)
{
subtagName = s
}
static constraints = {
}
String toString(){
subtagName
}
}
Tag hasMany subtags as well
It seems to be creating new Subtag instances when using the autoselect box (as an error shows up saying Could not find matching constructor for:packagename.Subtag(java.lang.String) Although this is a feature I am looking to implement in my application at later stages (being able to create new Subtags on the fly when creating a document Part), right now, all I would like to be able to do is just choose from my already existing subtags.
When I add in a string constructor, it comes back with the error that Column subtag_id cannot be null
I have developed it so will try help you through your issue.
The problem is that you are trying to push a value from selectSecondary and update the elementId of g:autocomplete which is actually a seperate entity.
I will update the plugin with a new method, need to test it out first.. Also take a look at g:selectAutoComplete. Although this method would only work if your secondary was the primary task... so no good in that case either..
hang on and look out for 0.37 release
Released 0.37 documentation on how to do such a thing here: https://github.com/vahidhedayati/ajaxdependancyselection/wiki/from-selection-to-autocomplete---how-to

Grails: Understanding groovy DomainClass.properties

I'm having a hard time finding information about grails functionality:
DomainClass.properties = params
In my particular case, I have these classes:
class parameterType = {
String name
String desc
static hasMany = [codes : parameterCode]
...
}
class parameterCode = {
String code
String desc
static belongsTo = [parameterType : parameterType]
}
My parameterType/edit.gsp has name, desc and an html table with its list of parameterCodes
At first, I had some variation of the scaffolded controller on the 'update' action. That (I know its wrong but it was a beginners code) it first deleted all the parameterCodes and then reassociated them (or recreated them).
With Ajax I was sending the data in this format:
id=1234&name=paramName&desc=paramDesc&codes[0].code=code1&codes[0].desc=codeDesc1&codes[1].code=code2&codes[1].desc=codeDesc2
And in the controller I had this:
def parameterTypeInstance = ParameterType.get(params.id)
def toDelete = parameterTypeInstance.parameterCodes
parameterTypeInstance.parameterCodes = []
toDelete.each{it.delete(flush: true)}
//And this "magic" line reassociated all the properties in parameterType And Created his parameterCodes in the data base:
parameterTypeInstance.properties = params
I honestly don't how it works, and I just wanted to know if there's a way of doing the same thing without having to previously delete the associated parameterCodes.
Cheers
**Update:**
I just found what I was looking for in these links:
http://www.2paths.com/2009/10/01/one-to-many-relationships-in-grails-forms/
http://omarello.com/2010/08/grails-one-to-many-dynamic-forms/
But I had another error.
These talks about LazyList and decorate(), so I just added the next lines to my ParameterType Class:
def List getExpandableCodeList() {
return LazyList.decorate(codes,FactoryUtils.instantiateFactory(ParameterCode.class))
}
But when I do this in my controller update:
parameterTypeInstance.properties = params
I'm getting this error:
groovy.lang.MissingMethodException: No signature of method: static org.apache.commons.collections.list.LazyList.decorate() is applicable for argument types: (org.hibernate.collection.PersistentSet, org.apache.commons.collections.functors.InstantiateFactory) values: [[cE - EE, cA - AA, cC - CC, cD - DD], org.apache.commons.collections.functors.InstantiateFactory#dd768d]
The data is being recieved in the controller this way:
expandableCodeList[0].desc: AA
expandableCodeList[3].code: cE
expandableCodeList[3].id: 35073
expandableCodeList[1].id: 35076
expandableCodeList[0].code: cA
expandableCodeList[2].code: cD
expandableCodeList[1].desc: CC
expandableCodeList[0].id: 35080
expandableCodeList[3].desc: EE
expandableCodeList[2].id: 35075
Any hints on what I'm doing wrong? should I be sending the data in another format?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.
If I not in error .properties is a method added by groovy to the java.lang.Object , look to this javaodc
There is many way to do what you want to do. Please look to grails documentation on data binding .
For example you can do
bindData(parameterTypeInstance, params, [exclude: parameterTypeInstance.parameterCodes])
look here for more info on bindData
Ok, I'm settings this as an answer:
http://www.2paths.com/2009/10/01/one-to-many-relationships-in-grails-forms/
At last, lazylist and the decorate() method was what I was looking for. Sadly it takes to take the child collection as a list and it carries out a lot of other issues for me. But its a good solution if anyone needs to make a view with the parent and its child objects the "simple" way.

How to get TotalRows Count in Breezejs, so that I can do paging

I am using Breezejs for client JavaScript. I am not sure how to get the Total count of query when using Breezejs (server side using IQueryable) that has filters (where clause) applied.
As of v 0.75.1 we have added a new 'inlineCount' method to the EntityQuery. Please see the breeze API docs for more details. Hopefully, this will provide what you need.
We made a little change to Ward's solution, because Enumerable.Count loads all records from db, not only count (we realized this after watching sql profiler).
First we create a wrapper for IQueryable.Count extension method (because we cannot call an extension method via reflection).
public static class QueryWrapper {
public static int Count<T>(IQueryable<T> query) where T: class {
return query.Count();
}
}
and we changed
if (actionExecutedContext.Request.RequestUri.Query.Contains("$inlinecount")) {
if (dQuery is IQueryable) {
inlineCount = Enumerable.Count(dQuery);
}
}
with this code,
if (actionExecutedContext.Request.RequestUri.Query.Contains("$inlinecount")) {
if (dQuery is IQueryable) {
var method = typeof(QueryWrapper).GetMethod("Count");
var genericMethod = method.MakeGenericMethod(elementType);
inlineCount = (int)genericMethod.Invoke(null, new object[] { dQuery });
}
}
after this change, Entity Framework gets only count, not all records.
Hope this helps.
Have a nice day.
Support $inlinecount in queries currently is under review - please vote for it.
UPDATE: $inlineCount is in Breeze as of v.0.75.1, rendering this answer obsolete.
Accordingly, I have deleted my answer which described a workaround (a workaround improved by Umut Özel in his answer here). The new feature was driven by this S.O. question and all of your contributions. Thank you.
