I am trying to make a div that slides out nicely when you mouse over a "trigger". It is appearing in full, then quickly disappearing and sliding out again. I can't seem to figure out the reason for this behavior.
If needed I can put a sample up in a bit.
Test case is up here. This is happening on all major browsers except IE6.
HTML:
<div class='wrap'>
<div id='navtitle'>
NAV>>
</div>
<div id='nav'>
<div id='navlist' class='rounded curvyRedraw'>
<div class='top'><div></div></div>
<ul>
<li><a href='#'>Home</a></li>
<li><a href='#'>Singles</a></li>
<li><a href='#'>Supplies</a></li>
<li><a href='#'>Cart</a></li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
Javascript:
$(document).ready(function (){
$('#navlist').hide();
$('#navtitle').bind("mouseenter", function(){
$('#navlist').show('slide');
});
$('#nav').bind("mouseleave", function(){
$('#navlist').hide('slide');
});
I think some of the problems are due to the focus changing as the div slides out, resulting in the handlers being invoked as focus changes, though I could be wrong on this. It might be because of how jQuery handles cross browser mouse events (not all browsers have the same events so jQuery might be approximating them). I was able to get it to "mostly" work by applying the mouse event handlers to handle a single event and using callbacks to make sure that only one is live at any given time so there is no switching back and forth between them. Note I had to give explicit direction/speed for hide or it simply disappeared. Not sure why, though it might have something to do with how my example is set up and the div simply disappearing once the left edge of the list elements are off the page.
$(function() {
$('#navlist').hide();
$('#navtitle').one('mouseenter', showOnEnter);
});
function showOnEnter() {
$('#navlist').show('slide', function() {
$('#nav').one('mouseleave', function() {
$('#navlist').hide('slide', { direction: 'left' }, 1000, function() {
$('#navtitle').one('mouseenter',showOnEnter);
});
});
});
}
It would help to see an example. The first thing that sticks out is the >>. Any change when you remove them? It shouldn't be an issue (< is more of a problem for browsers), but figured I'd ask.

After I have implemented "hover one DIV - affecting another inner DIV" I noticed strange misbehavior on iPad/iPhones. Now it takes two taps to click on the link in the DIV with hover code:
HTML:
<div class="portfblock">
<div id="portfblock1_imgdiv"> <a href="http://photoRadosti.com" target="_blank">
<div class="portfblock_imgdiv_txt_dsc_over">Baby & Family Photography</div>
</a>
</div>
<!-- #portfblock1_imgdiv -->
<div id="portfblock_desc"> photoRadosti.com
</div>
</div>
<!-- #portfblock -->
CSS:
.portfblock:hover .portfblock_imgdiv_txt_dsc_over {
visibility: visible;
}
First tap only executes on-hover action (the sub-div with the class .portfblock_imgdiv_txt_dsc_over becomes visible as needed by hover), and only the second tap executes the href link jump.
My whole page to look at the misbehavior from iPad/iPhone is here.
And the snippets of HTML and CSS code with one of the section to check are here at JSFiddle:
http://jsfiddle.net/bubencode/5doLj02e/
It works fine on computer with the mouse, but it takes two taps on touchscreens to go to the links in websites thumbnails.
Might be anyone also faced the same effect? Is it possible to omit hover action while tapping on the div with hover from touchscreen devices, and to have the link href jump right after the first tap?
Would appreciate your help!
#bubencode
This is the way hover works on mobile devices. Since the concept of "hover" doesn't exist if you don't have a cursor the choice was to trigger hover on the first tap and click on the second. The reasoning was most likely to not break sites using hover for example when showing drop-down menus or similar.
If the hover is meaningless on touch-devices, consider detecting this and removing it, making your website responsive.
I have a jqm/phonegap application which uses a fixed header and footer.
When I focus a textbox the footer gets removed and the keyboard pops up.
Is it possible to stop the footer from getting removed on focus?
Edit:
I've read that the screen width sets the hide or show the toolbar(for tablet support). Is it possible to always set the header and foother. No matter what screen size.
This is an example of a page I use(I use ajax paging):
<html>
<body>
<div data-role="page" id="myPage" data-theme="a">
<div data-role="header" data-tap-toggle="false" data-theme="a" data-position="fixed">
<h1 id="myHeader"></h1>
</div>
<div data-role="content">
<ul data-role="listview" id="lstvw_Items" data-filter-theme="a" data-filter="true"></ul>
</div>
<div data-role="footer" data-tap-toggle="false" data-position="fixed">
<div data-role="navbar">
<ul>
<li></li>
<li></li>
<li></label></li>
<li><label></label></li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>
</div>
</body>
</html>
The listview get's filled with ajax and can be filtered with the data-filter. If I press the datafilter txtbox the footer gets removed and when I close the keyboard the footer is at the bottem of the page.(Outside the screen).
Also when there's a field in focus and a link is pressed the page flickers and when theres no focus it doesn't happen.
First I was using iSCroll to keep the fixed headers and footers but this was creating alot of other issues.(With keyboard input,performance,...)
Extra info:
I'm using
jqm 1.3.1
phonegap 2.9.0
testing at the moment on android 2.3.x and higher
Edit:
I have figured out why the focus is never lost when press enter. The application blocks the enter key behaviour to prevent form submitting.
Like this:
document.onkeypress = stopRKey;
function stopRKey(evt){
var evt = (evt) ? evt: ((event) ? event: null);
var node = (evt.target) ? evt.target:((evt.srcElement) ? evt.srcElement:null);
if((evt.keyCode == 13) && (node.type=='text')){node.blur();return false;}
}
I'm now using node.blur(); in the if cause of this function. But this still causes flicker.
I upgraded to jqm 1.3.2 and modified the code for the hideduringfocus.
line 9905:
$.widget( "mobile.fixedtoolbar", $.mobile.widget, {
options: {
visibleOnPageShow: true,
disablePageZoom: true,
transition: "none", //can be none, fade, slide (slide maps to slideup or slidedown)
fullscreen: false,
tapToggle: false,
tapToggleBlacklist: "a, button, input, select, textarea, .ui-header-fixed, .ui-footer-fixed, .ui-popup, .ui-panel, .ui-panel-dismiss-open",
hideDuringFocus: "",...
This seems to work pretty good on android and the bar has stopped flickering. If you know a better answer that doesn't require jquery modifications please post it!
Why does .hide() not work on elements within an jquery ui accordion? It does work before the call to $("#accordion").accordion(), but not afterwards. The .show() method works fine before and after. The .toggle() method works half (only the show part).
<html>
<head>
<link href="jquery-ui-1.9.1.custom/css/ui-lightness/jquery-ui-1.9.1.custom.css" rel="stylesheet">
<script src="jquery-ui-1.9.1.custom/js/jquery-1.8.2.js"></script>
<script src="jquery-ui-1.9.1.custom/js/jquery-ui-1.9.1.custom.js"></script>
<script>
$(function()
{
//$("#inside").hide("fade"); /* <-- this does work */
$("#accordion").accordion();
$("#inside").hide("fade"); /* <-- but this doesn't */
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="accordion">
<h3>Page 1</h3>
<div id="page1">Blah</div>
<h3>Page 2</h3>
<div id="page2">
<div id="inside">Blah too</div>
</div>
</div>
</body>
</html>
Please explain not only how to solve it in another way, but more importantly why it doesn't work this way.
Based on the fact that calling hide() without the "fade" parameter, actually works (see here), I would say it has to do with the way that fade is implemented. The fade effect might be depending on the fact that the element is visible, since when you use hide("fade") when the div is showing it works (see here).
This happens because of accordion's use of hide. The first time a panel is shown, the contents are shown as well, even if they were previously hidden, so if the panel is not open when you hide the contents, they will appear when you first select that panel. See juan.facorro's explanation as it provides a correct explanation as to what's not working.
Here's one possible start of a workaround by showing the panel containing #inside initially, hiding it, then showing the first panel instead: http://jsfiddle.net/cjc343/KuJJm/2/
I have an image in my jquery mobile fixed header. When the page loads in Google Chrome or Apple Safari the header content overlaps the content div below the header until I resize the page. Firefox and IE work just fine.
Thanks!
I think the problem is that when jQuery Mobile initializes the page, the header image is not loaded and the header is much smaller so jQuery Mobile puts a padding on the .ui-page element that is too small once the image loads. A simple fix for this is to manually set the size of the header image so that it takes-up it's required space even before its source loads.
You could also do this, although it seems pretty hacky to me, force a redraw by triggering the resize event on document.ready or maybe window.load:
$(window).on('load', function () {
$(this).trigger('resize');
});
I pasted this code into the console while on your page and it re-positioned the title element as expected.
Does applying the following CSS help?
.ui-page {
padding-top: 91px !important;
}
Note that you will have to refine the selector as this will apply to overlay popups either.
I had lots of trouble with this. This worked until I wanted to add a link:
<div data-role="header">
<img border="0" src="logo.png" style="float:left;display:inline"/> <h1></h1>
</div>
Note the empty h1 tag.
I ended up not using a data-role="header" at all, I just couldn't get it to work with a link. I used a ui-bar class instead. Like this:
<div class="ui-bar ui-bar-a">
<a href="/" data-role="none">
<img border="0" src="images/logo.png" style="float: left; display:inline">
</a>
</div>
A solution based on #Jasper answer that worked for me was:
$(document).on('pageshow', "div[data-role='page']", function () {
$(window).trigger('resize');
});
It has an improvement that apply to all the jquery mobile pages
I played with the rather good solutions from Jasper and Carlos487 and found this to be the most up-to-date and reliable way to do it (jQM 1.4.x):
if it's due to an image without specified dimensions that will need some time to load and thus may cause the header to enlarge, then specifying the known dimensions (ideally via CSS) should do it. Otherwise there should be a way to determine if it has finished loading and thus applying the idea of solution 3 below.
if it's is due to some (maybe) unknown header resize event (e.g. through some image loaded later or some other content shrinking the header and thus making it vertically bigger), then this should work with a reasonable big enough timeout value:
$( ':mobile-pagecontainer' ).on( 'pagecontainershow', function(e) {
// maybe value > 100 needed for your scenario / page load speed
setTimeout( function() { $(window).trigger('resize'); }, 100 /*ms*/ );
}
if you know what is causing this (as in my case, where I am right shifting the page content on large screens via some (otherwise hidden/overlayed) left aligned navigation panel), then the following may be even better, beeing independent of the actual time the page needs to load on some device or scenario (which may be longer than your predefined timeout above):
// if its due to some animation like in my case
// otherwise try to find a similar way to determine when the resizing event has
// completed!
$('#someAnimated').animate( 'complete', function() { $(window).trigger('resize'); });
(I am not sure if Jaspers solution using $(window).on( 'load', ... will be correct in all jQM page load scenarios (with AJAX page navigation). That's why I would prefer Carlos487's approach in my example.)
None of the solutions above worked for me. But I found out my problem lies in the events after the page navigation. If the content div is hidden during this time, it doesn't get positioned under the header div, rather stays in its original place:
$(document).on("pageshow", "div[data-role='page']", function()
{
$("#pageContentDiv").hide();
setTimeout(function()
{
$("#pageContentDiv").show();
}, 0);
});
EDIT:
Found a better solution; set header div height and page div top padding to the same value:
<div data-role="page" style="padding-top: 60px">
<div data-role="header" data-position="fixed" style="height: 60px">
Hope this helps.
jQuery mobile button renders gibberish for filter button after clicking on pagination. Click event that shows map also stops working after changing the page.
Should I call refresh page?
Sandbox link
Markup is as following:
<div data-role="header" data-theme="b" id="rest-header">
<div class="ui-grid-b">
<div class="ui-block-a">Filter</div>
<div class="ui-block-b"><input type="search" name="search"value="" data-theme="d" /></div>
<div class="ui-block-c">Map</div>
</div>
</div><!-- /header -->
First I would suggest using jQuery 1.6.4 as jQM only supports this version for 1.0
Your problem is you're adding a back button when navigating to another page, this is causing an overlap of both the filter and back button.
Removing the data-add-back-btn="true" attribute should solve the issue
For map button you should use live event binding or delegation so that it works for dynamic content. Instead of
$( "#map-btn" ).bind( "click", function(event, ui) { ... });
try
$(document).on('click', '#map-btn', function() {
// ...
})
For filter button I can see the Back button under the Filter one, so you want to get rid of the Back button since you don't need it right there. You can remove data-add-back-btn="true" attribute.
