enable Open edX custom theme bitnami - bitnami

I am trying to customize the default UI of open edX. But I am not getting far enough. I am new to this. I am getting confused reading the docs. In the documentation it is telling me to place my theme in the '/opt/bitnami/edx/var/themes/edx-platform' directory. But there is not any such directory. So should I make my own directory in the default location of my remote server? Again I found a directory that has path like this '/opt/bitnami/edx/app/edxapp/edx-platform/themes'. So do I put my custom theme here or create my own directory? Also can anyone provide me clear steps which I can follow. Thanks in advance!

I think Open edX documentation is very clear, relevant, and concise. Of course, we can argue but that's how I feel.
Its not a good idea to make changes in '/opt/bitnami/edx/app/edxapp/edx-platform/themes'.
Use the comprehensive theming method for custom themeing, you can find more here.
First, you need to develop your own theme, theme development guide here.
Thene make these changes to your 'lms.yml' and 'studio.yml' in '/opt/bitnami/edx/etc/'.
COMPREHENSIVE_THEME_DIRS:
- /path/to/edx-platform/themes
ENABLE_COMPREHENSIVE_THEMING: true,
DEFAULT_SITE_THEME: 'your theme name'
And restart the LMS, CMS service, and compile assets.
You can use open edX native installations also. More info here.

NopCommerce Plugin Localization

I am working on a NopCommerce website and have quite a bit of site-wide customization so I have created a plugin to handle it all but not sure on how to handle the localization. I see there are a couple of ways of updating the Localization strings, one way I have found is in the Plugin's Install() method:
this.AddOrUpdatePluginLocaleResource("Plugins.Payments.PayPalStandard.Fields.AdditionalFee", "Additional fee");
This looks like it only adds new resource strings for the plugin, is there a similar way to update the other resources via the Install() method like:
Admin.Catalog.Products.List.DownloadPDF
I found that there is a way to export the entire language to a language_pack.xml file, would it be better to just create an entire language pack instead? Is there a way to add a new language pack from the plugins Install() method?
I guess I could simply open the language_pack.xml file and add each resource found using the AddOrUpdatePluginLocaleResource, I was hoping that there was a built-in way of doing this using NopCommernce functionality.
Thanks!
As #Raphael suggested in a comment, provide a language pack along with plugin file to the end users, and give an option to upload required resource file within your plugin configuration page.
As per as I know, there is no inbuilt way to add language pack on plugin installation, but you can do some code on plugin install method to find language pack file(s) from plugin folder and install it, not quite sure, you can take reference of inbuilt methods.

Bloodhound html file changes are not affecting in ui

I am working on ui bloodhound changes. I have to remove logo of apache bloodhound and header tabs in the dashboard. I made the changes in bloodhound_theme-> bhtheme-> templates-> bloodhound_theme.html, this location file but no changes have been made in ui. after running the server. I checked in the google i didnt get any material regarding it. If anyone knows the way to make a changes in bloodhound ui manually please guide me.
Thanks.
Bloodhound is built on Trac, so most of the Trac documentation applies.
You can modify aspects of the header using configuration options, so modifying a template may not be necessary. See also this documentation.
To modify templates you should follow the instructions TracInterfaceCustomization. In short, you should put a copy of the template in the Environment templates directory.
Keep in mind for any modifications to js and css files, particularly if you followed the installation instructions to install Bloodhound: you'll need to re-run the deploy command to extract static assets to the location from which they are served.
$ trac-admin /opt/bloodhound/environments/main/ deploy /opt/bloodhound/environments/main/site

Awesome desktop manager widgets

I came upon this problem before, but only now it really renders awesome desktop manager useless.
I was searching how to connect to Wifi with awesome. Found Gigamo Wifi Widget. Cool, how do I eat it?
The awesome wiki entry on widgets does not really answer this question.
I know my question is very stupid and the answer is somewhere in the documentation but I have no idea how to read it. How and where do I add widgets I find on the Net to my awesome lua files?
EDIT:
when searching where is the rc.lua file henfiber mentioned, I came upon Archlinux wiki on Awesome, which put most important things in one page.
You can always use NetworkManager which is available for installation in most official repos. It contains an applet which creates an icon at your system tray. You can launch the applet at start-up, placing this line in your rc.lua file:
awful.util.spawn("nm-applet")
or you can start it manually from your terminal, writing:
$ nm-applet &
Then you can left-click at the NetworkManager Applet icon at the system tray and select from the list of available wifi access points. Additionally, the Network manager applet allows you to perform more advanced functions, like connecting to VPN.
Also, it is quite easy to use 3rd-party widgets you find in the wiki or in github. It requires these steps:
Download the widget .lua file - let's say it is called
cool_widget.lua
move it in ~/.config/awesome/ so it is :
~/.config/awesome/cool_widget.lua
An alternative is to use the structure
~/.config/awesome/cool_widget/init.lua
it is better when your widget requires more than one files.
Load the widget at the top of your rc.lua file:
cool_widget = require("cool_widget")
Add the widget in a wibox (toolbar) in the same way you add built-in
ones

Read config settings from PhoneGap app

Apparently I'm terrible at Googling. All I want to do is have the ability to read my web service URL from a config file in my PhoneGap app. Also, be able to modify that value during the build process. Is this named alot different in Xcode? I think I need to save this value in the plist file. If that's the case, then I can just set a user-setting in my build configuration stuff to have it change depending on which build type, Dev/Release.
If that's true, how do I access this from PhoneGap?
I'm guessing this question will get closed, but where else do I go for help...
plist file for cordova project already depreciate since v2.2. Cordova v2.3 start using config.xml.
Target > Edit Scheme
You could probably use hooks to accomplish everything that you are trying to do without changing around the config.xml file, but I'm not entirely sure this is supported with Phonegap (it is with Cordova.)
Check out the official help page to use the /hooks/ folder to modify anything during the build process: https://github.com/apache/cordova-cli/blob/master/templates/hooks-README.md
This blog post also seems pretty useful: http://devgirl.org/2013/11/12/three-hooks-your-cordovaphonegap-project-needs/ it talks about changing things based on the environment and I'm sure it'd be easy to extend that to changing based on dev/release.
You could store the link to your web service probably as a config variable. I'm trying to figure out how you can add a config variable and will report back if I get it. In the mean time you could probably just have something like a server.txt file that you change with hooks.

How to configure JIRA_HOME?

How to configure JIRA_HOME? I'm getting an error:
Configured jira.home '/Users/codedroid/Downloads/atlassian-jira-5.1-standalone' must not be a parent directory of the webapp servlet path '/Users/codedroid/Downloads/atlassian-jira-5.1-standalone/atlassian-jira'
Changed it and now I get this:
Configured jira.home '/Users/codedroid/Downloads/atlassian-jira-5.1-standalone/atlassian-jira' must not be the same as the webapp servlet path '/Users/codedroid/Downloads/atlassian-jira-5.1-standalone/atlassian-jira'
Have a look in here, if you're still having troubles please write what did you set JIRA_HOME to be and where did you defined it, thanks.
EDIT
Yea, that documentation is more of 'how to' instead of 'what'. A better explanation of what the JIRA_HOME should be is writen in more details here.
Anyway, if you feel that the documentation are confusing or just bad, you could do everyone a favour and write it at the bottom of the page, under comments, so other could see it easily.
The JIRA documentation does NOT! make it clear even to a seasoned programmer that this JIRA_HOME directory is referring to a data directory and not the installation directory. If there are any JIRA folks out there please fix this outragious misunderstanding in your documentation. JAVA_HOME refers to you guessed it the installation location of java. Its called a 'convention' if you want to invent some other meaning please say so it your documentation and don't wast valuable developer time on installing your productivity tool. Think its not a problem? Google 'must not be the same as the webapp servlet path' and see what you get back. Thanks for wasting my afternoon, and no doubt the time of many others.
(warning) However, avoid locating the JIRA Home Directory inside the JIRA Installation Directory.
This appears in only documentation point and is not the first place people look as noted above
Just create a folder named JIRA, then set the environment variable JIRA_HOME as D:\JIRA, as well as the application properties file.
# jira-application.properties
jira.home = D:\\JIRA
Don't be confused with the JAVA_HOME, JIRA_HOME has absolutely nothing to do with the folder of your zip ball downloaded from official website.
JIRA_HOME is an empty folder where JIRA will create everything it needs in a RUNTIME.
It is NOT a folder where your unpacked JIRA distribution resides.
P.S. yes it is confusing still in 2021
