Question:
Does anyone know how to fix this aside from completely reinstalling the entire Fortify software suite?
Background:
Audit Workbench was up then my PC restarted. Now the Project summary does not show (nor does the code preview).
What I have tried so far:
I tried resetting the display and restarting my PC but it does not bring the Audit Workbench module back.
Previous Fix:
Before when I had this issue, I had to get Fortify completely reinstalled to get it fixed. Because this is on a Government Pc, it will take a while to get it reinstalled. I need this for my job.
Edit: Best Path Forward (Until bug is fixed):
When I open the for through the application (start menu, Fortify SCA folder, Audit Workbench, choose for file), it shows the module. For some reason, a forced restart causes Fortify to not show the module when opening the FPRs directly from the file system.
The other thing is that you cannot pin Audit Workbench to the taskbar which makes this bug more annoying than it should be. I will make a script that I can pin to the taskbar to open the Audit Workbench without going through the start menu every time.
Edit: Found temporary solution
I did a bit of testing and whenever I open the FPR with Audit Workbench, I need to open 2 windows, 1 immediately after the other, to get the project summary back. The first one I open will not show the Project Summary but the 2nd one will. It only shows the pane on the 2nd window for some reason.

I am using Fortify Audit Workbench 18.20.1071 to do analysis on already created Fortify projects. The Fortify projects (extension .fpr) were created using standard Fortify commands. The discovered code issues, are listed on the left pane, and are grouped by categories, depending on a predefined view. When clicking on those issues, I was previously able to see the code in the source code panel/viewer/editor (separate panel to the center-right). For some reason I am not able to open that panel anymore. I don't recall changing anything in the settings, but I'm not able to see the associated code anymore.
If I create a pdf Developer Workbook report, from the Fortify project, I am able to see the source code (in the pdf file), therefore I know that the source code is available. I assume it's just some Audit Workbench settings that I need to change, but I don't know which ones.
There is no code associated with my question, as it is related to the functionality of the Audit Workbench application.
What I expect to see is the following: When I click on a listed issue on the left pane, the source code file associated with the flagged issue should open on the pane to the center-right.
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch!
I had the same issue using ver 19.10 and here's how I got the source code tab to show again.
Reset the config (options/options/audit configuration/reset interface)
Reboot computer
Open audit workbench and reload project
I accidentally ran rm -rf on my terminal on my mac and lost everything, including an app project I was working on. Is it possible to somehow transfer the app project that I had deployed on my iPhone back to my computer in any way? Just so I can see what I can salvage?
You can't get the Xcode app project back from the app that was installed on your phone.
If you're using source control (such as with git), you may be able to go back to a prior version. To check, go to the command-line and do
% git log
See if it shows any history.
Otherwise, if you stored your project in your Documents or Desktop folders and have those folders synchronized with iCloud, you might be able to get it back by going to iCloud.com and checking if you can download it. However, because these folders are synchronized, doing this right away is important, because it will synchronize the deletion. This is why a cloud-sync'd folder isn't considered a backup.
If you have Time Machine configured on your Mac, you can check if there is a version available there. Open Time Machine from Launchpad -> Other -> Time Machine, or click the Time Machine icon in the upper right corner of your Mac screen (looks like a clock with an arrow/circle around it), then click "Enter Time Machine". If you're able to do this, you can go to the folder and browse previous versions by time.
Lastly, check any other backup solution you may have, such as Backblaze, for example. Backblaze is a cloud backup solution. It also has an icon up top on your Mac desktop -- it looks like a flame.
If none of these work, you're out of luck (sorry!). Learn about git, and use Bitbucket or Github with it. Set up time machine. Also set up a cloud backup, like Backblaze. I use all of those. Hopefully one of these works for you!
All,
I have a Jenkins server setup which automatically runs Fortify and uploads it to SSC. Unfortunately, SSC seems to have stopped updating.
I can see the artifact in the artifacts table and I have to manually approve it, as always, due to a "missing external metadata" issue. However, when I go to "audit issues", the issue count isn't update. If I download the project file, the appropriate number of issues is shown in the desktop application.
Does anyone have ideas?
What version of SSC are you using?
Are you giving SSC enough time to update its metrics. There are certain actions that require SSC to recalculate metrics. Normally the recalculations are done at midnight. There is an indicator that an update needs to be done (and can be triggered manually).
In the HTML SSC interface (introduced in 4.40) you will see two yellow arrows in a circle (thing of a refresh icon). That is letting you know recalculations need to be done. This is also a button that can be pressed to kick it off now.
In the older flash UI, when looking at the details page of a project version, there can be a Refresh button, if this is visible it means a recalculation needs to be done, either at the scheduled time or can be triggered manually.
Side Note
To get around the "missing external metadata" issue, you need to update the rulepacks on the SSC Server. You can do this in the Rulepacks section of the Admin area.
I've used TFS Power Tools on a daily basis for several months. I particularly depend on Windows Shell Extension.
For about a week now, two issues have come up:
Issue 1
Every time I enter a directory under TFS control, I have to right-click twice to see the TFS context menu
Issue 2
My pretty TFS Green indicators on files/folders are gone:
I've downloaded and reinstalled the Power Tools, but I still have these two issues.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?
**UPDATE**
Dave gave me the answer via link. Just in case that link goes bad, here is the answer:
Open the registry
Go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer \ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers
Prefix any "Tfs" folder with numbers (“1TfsOverlayAdd” , “2TfsOverlayEdit” etc.). This allows them to take priority over other icon overlays.
Restart the machine or kill explorer.exe and restart it
As far as the delay issue is concerned, I'm not experiencing that this morning; which is odd. I question that the solution for the overlay was also the solution for the right-clicking.
Everything's back to normal now so I am good to go.
The missing green icons can be explained here. It is because Windows has a limit of overlay icons it supports. The details on how to fix it are in that blog post.
How long are you waiting after entering a folder before you perform the first Right Click? It sometimes takes a while for the TfsComProviderSvr.exe to check if the local folder is a workspace and register the shell extension.
When connecting to a remote TFS 2010 installation via my Visual Studio 2010, Process tab of Build Definition freezes. Everything seems to be disabled. Is there any work-around?
UPDATE 1:
By freezing I mean:
I can navigate to all tabs: General, Trigger, Workspace, Build Defaults, Process and Retention Policy. Except for Process tab, they all are working as excpected. When I click Process tab, it is showed, but none of parameters are shown, and the tab itself is in gray. Actually nothing could be clicked. It is like that Visual Studio is waiting for something to be completed or loaded.
UPDATE 2:
I have explored that when I leave Visual Studio alone for a long time about 20 or 30 minutes, the Process tab goes normal. That means all parameters appears and can be edited. That seems downloading or getting something from server causes this very very long delay.
You might want to check out exactly what rights you have on that server with regards to administrating builds.
http://intovsts.net/2009/09/03/more-fine-grained-permissions-in-tfs2010/ and
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms252587.aspx
I think one of the main ones is "edit build definition"
If you don't have rights, then there won't be a workaround.
UPDATE:
The only things I can really think of at this point is to put a sql monitor on the TFS Database and possibly, watch the network traffic to see how the network interface is being used.
It's possible that something is wrong on the database server causing a huge amount of load. The other possibility is that the network is badly configured and running at 1Mb instead of 100Mb+.
Beyond those, I'd say call MS Support and open a trouble ticket. This is by no means normal and is likely indicative of some underlying hardware or installation issue.
Afsharm,
Happend with me too. This happened when i had the build defination open on one VS instance in edit mode and i opened it for editing on another pc. After a while it errored saying "TFS 20391: Locked for blah blah..." I had to close my visual studio instance on both the machines and restart, it worked there after. These are very occassional cases and very hard to replicate. I would suggest restarting your visual studio session and trying again.
PS - Worth checking if some one else have the process template open for edit as well?
HTH.
Cheers, Tarun
