Latex - Nomenclature for a thesis when you have multiple chapters - latex

I am writing my PhD thesis, and I have multiple chapters where I compile a list of tables, figures and references. However, I struggle to put my "List of Symbols", as I need to call them from multiple chapters. Their order is not very important at the moment, so a general list should be fine (i.e. I don't need to group symbols chapter by chapter).
When I use the following commands in one of the chapters (for example), nothing happens.
\nomenclature{$m$}{The mass (kg)}
\printnomenclature
If you have a template or know how to make this work, it would be highly appreciated.
My code structure is as the following:
\documentclass[a4paper,12pt,twoside]{report}
\usepackage[left=3cm,right=2.5cm,top=2cm,bottom=2.5cm]{geometry}
\usepackage{multirow}
\include{thesis.preamble} % where all packages are embedded.
\usepackage{nomencl}

I tried to recreate this instance. It first asked for the missing iopart.cls documentclass. I could get that from a GitHub repository belonging to Tianjin University named "etgroup". You can simply find it by searching "iop latex template" in Github. After the second compilation, it asked for a class dependency named iopart10.clo(it's available in the same repository).
Finally, after the third compilation, I could get a PDF output(Please see the figure attached).
Solution: If you are using a local LaTeX IDE/Studio, I recommend updating the packages you are using. Sometimes there are conflicts between some packages but they usually resolve quickly by releasing an update and you might see that there was nothing wrong with your commands.
Alternatively, you may try using an online LaTeX editor. They always have the last version of the most common packages and are equipped with multiple LaTeX render engine types.

Latex IEEE template: Use single column table in multicolumn latex content [closed]

I am trying to use this IEEE template to write a report. I don't see any package named \usepackage{multicol} which is used for multi-column. So I can not change it from two column to single column. Problem is, I have a big table which need whole page without two column. That is, my table should be in single column with whole page. You can see the example image. Sorry for bad image. Also, I have to use this template to write my report. Please let me know how can insert the table in single column.
I added this code for table just to test but it show in the one of the column. But as I wrote already, I need to show it like the image below.
\begin{tabular}{|c|c|c|}
\hline
Text A & Text B & Test C \\\hline
\multicolumn{2}{|c|}{\multirow{2}{*}{Longer Text, etc. etc.}} & Test F \\\cline{3-3}
\multicolumn{2}{|c|}{} & Test G \\\hline
\end{tabular}
Below is the code in the template

The answer to this question is (almost) included in the IEEE template you posted: With \begin{figure*} ... \end{figure*}, you can create a double column figure. Similarly, you can create a double column table using \begin{table*} ... \end{table*} instead of the normal table floating environment:
\begin{table*}
\centering
\caption{Some description}
\label{tab:the_table}
\begin{tabular}{|c|c|c|}
\hline
Text A & Text B & Test C \\\hline
\multicolumn{2}{|c|}{\multirow{2}{*}{Longer Text, long long long etc. etc.}} & Test F \\\cline{3-3}
\multicolumn{2}{|c|}{} & Test G \\\hline
\end{tabular}
\end{table*}

Latex table rotate is not working

I am trying to rotate table but I could not do that. See my code below, I tried with rotate, sidewaystable and landscape. Nothing is working for me. Either it gives me error or work like the image. I want to show the table in a single page and rotated. Please help me to make it work.
\begin{table*}
\centering
%\begin{rotate}{90}
%\begin{sidewaystable}
%\begin{landscape}
\caption{Some description}
\label{tab:the_table}
\begin{tabular}{|c|c|c|}
\hline
Text A & Text B & Test C \\\hline
\multicolumn{2}{|c|}{\multirow{2}{*}{Longer Text, long long long etc. etc.}} & Test F \\\cline{3-3}
\multicolumn{2}{|c|}{} & Test G \\\hline
\end{tabular}
% \end{rotate}
%\end{sidewaystable}
%\end{landscape}
\end{table*}

You have to move the \caption statement out of the rotate environment. Now, the table is rotated, but it overlaps with the non-rotated caption. To fix, this use the sideways environment (not sidewaystable!) instead of rotate, because sideways calculates a new "bounding box" for the rotated text.
So your modified example looks like this:
\begin{table*}
\centering
\caption{Some description}% <-- moved this ...
\label{tab:the_table}% <-- ... and this
\begin{sideways}% <-- used this
\begin{tabular}{|c|c|c|}

\multicolumn{2}{|c|}{} & Test G \\\hline

\end{sideways}
\end{table*}
If you want to rotate the caption too, then you have to replace the table* environment with sidewaystable* and no further rotation inside.
\begin{sidewaystable*}
\centering
\caption{Some description}
\label{tab:the_table}
\begin{tabular}{|c|c|c|}

\usepackage[sectionbib]{chapterbib}
\usepackage{chapterbib}
\begin{document}
...
\include{background}
\include{ATRPcomp}
\include{CCTcomp}
\appendix
\include{AppCCT}
\end{document}
In each of my chapter sections and appendix I have:
\chapter{Compartmentalization in Catalytic Chain Transfer}
...
\bibliography{references}
Does the chapterbib also work for appendices or is there another option that could help?
I assume the package to work also within the appendix. I fact, when you issue the command \appendix the sectioning commands' behavior is the same, except for the numbering (and perhaps the heading).
In the main matter, the chapter command
\chapter{CCTcomp}
gives you
7 CCtcomp
(7 is an example). The commands sequence
\appendix
\chapter{AppCCT}
gives you
A AppCCT
The bibliography shoud work properly.

lyx problem: ps, pdf "Authors not shown"

I'm trying to write a paper based on VLDB .cls and .tex files, it can be reached from here.It uses ACM SIG Proceedings Style.After fixing many errors, now i don't get any errors, However when i save my file as pdf or ps,i can not see the author names.
The title and abstract are shown just not the code between these is not shown.
i'm using lyx on Ubuntu.
Here is the code for the authors.
% ****************** TITLE ****************************************

% You need the command \numberofauthors to handle the 'placement
% and alignment' of the authors beneath the title.
%
% For aesthetic reasons, we recommend 'three authors at a time'
% i.e. three 'name/affiliation blocks' be placed beneath the title.
%
% NOTE: You are NOT restricted in how many 'rows' of
% "name/affiliations" may appear. We just ask that you restrict
% the number of 'columns' to three.
%
% Because of the available 'opening page real-estate'
% we ask you to refrain from putting more than six authors
% (two rows with three columns) beneath the article title.
% More than six makes the first-page appear very cluttered indeed.
%
% Use the \alignauthor commands to handle the names
% and affiliations for an 'aesthetic maximum' of six authors.
% Add names, affiliations, addresses for
% the seventh etc. author(s) as the argument for the
% \additionalauthors command.
% These 'additional authors' will be output/set for you
% without further effort on your part as the last section in
% the body of your article BEFORE References or any Appendices.

i also tried another author format and still author names not shown.

also when i checked the title i see that:
Error in latexParagraphs: You should not mix title layouts with normal ones.
however i see my the document as dvi,ps or pdf
i'm not sure what causes the problem?
EDIT
WHILE converting from .lyx to pdf or dvi i still don't see the authors however, by using shell commands everthing is fine.
i think this is a problem of lyx,
i spend 8 hours to solve it, seriously i set up windows 7 lyx and tried there, still same.
thanks lyx:) You are good when you are working properly.
The vldb.cls class from the link you mention does not define a command called \sharedaffiliation. Commenting out that code allows the file to compile and also see the author names:
\documentclass{vldb}
\title{Alternate {\ttlit ACM} SIG Proceedings Paper in LaTeX
Format\titlenote{(Produces...}}
\numberofauthors{3}
\author{
\alignauthor Ben King\\
\email{king#cs.berkeley.edu}
\alignauthor Georgia Tobin\\
\email{tobin#cs.berkeley.edu}
\alignauthor Gerald Murray\\
\email{murrray#cs.berkeley.edu}
% \sharedaffiliation
\affaddr{Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science } \\
\affaddr{University of California, Berkeley } \\
\affaddr{Berkeley, CA 94720-1776 }
}
\begin{document}
\maketitle
\end{document}
The address is ugly this way, though. It is up to the journal to define how to display author addresses with a single affiliation. Unfortunately, the sample file does not do this. In that situation I would contact the editor and ask.
