So I have this remote folder /mnt/shared mounted with fuse. It is mostly available, except there shall be some disconnections from time to time.
The actual mounted folder /mnt/shared becomes available again when the re-connection happens.
The issue is that I put this folder into a docker volume to make it available to my app: /shared. When I start the container, the volume is available.
But if a disconnection happens in between, while the /mnt/shared repo on the host machine is available, the /shared folder is not accessible from the container, and I get:
user#machine:~$ docker exec -it e313ec554814 bash
root#e313ec554814:/app# ls /shared
ls: cannot access '/shared': Transport endpoint is not connected
In order to get it to work again, the only solution I found is to docker restart e313ec554814, which brings downtime to my app, hence is not an acceptable solution.
So my questions are:
Is this somehow a docker "bug" not to reconnect to the mounted folder when it is available again?
Can I execute this task manually, without having to restart the whole container?

I would try the following solution.
If you mount the volume to your docker like so:
docker run -v /mnt/shared:/shared my-image
I would create an intermediate directory /mnt/base/shared and mount it to docker like so:
docker run -v /mnt/base/shared:/base/shared my-image
and I will also adjust my code to refer to the new path or creating a link from /base/shared to /shared inside the container
Explanation:
The problem is that the mounted directory /mnt/shared is probably deleted on host machine, when there is a disconnection and a new directory is created after connection is back. But, the container started running with directory mapping for the old directory which was deleted. By creating an intermediate directory and mapping to it instead you avoid this mapping issue.
Another solution that might work is to mount the directory using bind-propagation=shared
e.g:
--mount type=bind,source=/mnt/shared,target=/shared,bind-propagation=shared

I'm running a container by sending to docker daemon so it can run a sibling container and in that container I try to run another container and mount a volume to access some data, however in the sibling container, the volume is either empty or the file is converted to a folder...
Running the first container:
$ docker run -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock -it example /bin/bash
root#3aa35965846a:/home/node/example# ls some_volume/
test.txt
root#3aa35965846a:/home/node/example# cat some_volume/test.txt
hello

The first time I run the second container the volume is empty, if I try to mount a file directly it is converted to a folder, and after that if I try to mount the folder like the example above, there is only the file I tried to mount earlier and it is a folder.
How is this possible ? If i try to mount a volume outside the first container I don't have any problem, how can I fix this ?
The first path in the docker run -v option is always on the host system. For example, if you
docker run -v /etc:/x busybox cat /x/shadow
it will dump out the host's encrypted password file, regardless of whether you ran this command directly from the host or from a container.
There isn't a way to share an arbitrary directory from one container to another. If the launching container knows something about its own directory structure (in particular that some directory was mounted from a specific host path or named volume) then it can replicate that to the other container, but that's not a generic answer. The other behaviors you're seeing are just a consequence of those directories not existing on the host system.
In general I would advise not using Docker for short-lived processes that principally interact with the outside world through the filesystem. Take whatever program you'd run in the other container, install it in your image's Dockerfile, and run it directly without going through Docker.
If you really can't avoid this workflow, the only thing I've found to work reliably is to docker create the container, docker cp files in, docker start it, and docker wait for it to finish. When it's done, docker cp the result out before docker rm it. That's a kind of painstaking workflow but it gets around the problem of the two containers not sharing any filesystem space.

I have a simple image of a django website with a volume defined for the app directory.
I can bind this volume to the actual folder where I do the development with this command :
docker container run --rm -p 8000:8000 --mount type=bind,src=$(pwd)/wordcount-project,target=/usr/src/app/wordcount-project wordcount-django
This works fairly well.
Now I tried to push that simple example in a swarm. Note that I have set up a local registry for the image to be available.
So to start my service I'd do :
docker service create -p 8000:8000 --mount type=bind,source=$(pwd)/wordcount-project,target=/usr/src/app/wordcount-project 127.0.0.1:5000/wordcount-django
It will work after some tries but only because it run on the local node (where the actual folder is) and not a remote node (where there is no wordcount-project folder).
Any idea how to solve this so that this folder can be accessible to all node and yet, still be accessible locally for development ?

Using bind-mount in docker swarn is not recommended, as you can read in the doc. In particular :
Important: Bind mounts can be useful but they can also cause problems. In most cases, it is recommended that you architect your application such that mounting paths from the host is unnecessary.
However, if you still want to use bind-mount, then you have two possibility :
Make sure your folder exists on all the nodes. The main problem here is that you'll have to update it everytime on every node.
Use a shared filesystem (such as sshfs for example) and mount it on a directory on each node. However, now that you have a shared filesystem, then you can just use a docker data volume and change the driver.

I have a directory in my Docker container, and I'm trying to make it available locally using -v screenshots:/srv/screenshots in my docker run command but it's not available.
Do I need to add something else to my command?
Host volumes are mapped from the host into the container, not the other way around. This is one way to have persistent storage (so the data don't disappear when the container is re-created).
You can copy the screenshot folder to your host with docker cp and map them in.
You will have your screenshots in the local screenshots folder. Mapping them in with -v screenshots:/srv/screenshots makes them appear in /srv/screenshots in the container, but these files are really on the host.

I am running a Docker container in CoreOS (host) and mounted a host folder with a container's folder.
docker run -v /home/core/folder_name:/folder_name <container_name>
Now, each time I am changing (insert/delete) some file in that host folder (folder_name), I have to restart the container (container_name) to see the effects.
docker restart <container_name>
Is there any way from the host side or docker side to restart it automatically when there is a change (insert/delete) in the folder?
Restarting the docker container on a folder change is rather antithetical to the whole notion of the -v command in the first place. If you really really really need to restart the container in the manner you are suggesting then the only way to do it is from the docker host. There are a couple tools (I can name off the top of my head, there are definitely more) you could use to monitor the host folder and when a file is inserted or deleted you could trigger the docker restart <container_name> command. Those tools are incron and inotify-tools. Here is another question someone asked similar to yours and the answer recommended using one of the tools I suggested.
Now, there is no way that the files in the host folder are not being changed in the docker container as well. It must be that the program you are using in the docker container isn't updating it's view of the /folder_name folder after it starts up. Is it possible for you to force the program you are running in the docker container to refresh or update? The -v command works via bind mounting and has been a stable feature in docker for quite a while. With bind mounting, the home/core/folder_name folder IS (for all practical purposes) the same folder as /folder_name in the container.
run the command
docker run -t -i -v /home/core/folder_name:/folder_name <container_name> /bin/sh
This command gives you an interactive shell within the container. In this shell issue the command:
cd /folder_name; touch a_file
Now go to /home/core/folder_name on the docker host in a shell or some file browser. The file a_file will be there. You can delete that file on the host and go back to the shell running in the docker container and run ls /folder_name. The file a_file will not be there.
So, you either need to use inotify or incron to go about restarting your container anytime a file changes on the host, or figure out how to work with the program you are running in the docker container to have it update its view of the /folder_name folder.
Assume that i have an application with this simple Dockerfile:

RUN configure.sh --logmyfiles /var/lib/myapp
ENTRYPOINT ["starter.sh"]
CMD ["run"]
EXPOSE 8080
VOLUME ["/var/lib/myapp"]
And I run a container from that:
sudo docker run -d --name myapp -p 8080:8080 myapp:latest
So it works properly and stores some logs in /var/lib/myapp of docker container.
My question
I need these log files to automatically saved in host too, So how can i mount the /var/lib/myapp from the container to the /var/lib/myapp in host server (without removing current container) ?

First, a little information about Docker volumes. Volume mounts occur only at container creation time. That means you cannot change volume mounts after you've started the container. Also, volume mounts are one-way only: From the host to the container, and not vice-versa. When you specify a host directory mounted as a volume in your container (for example something like: docker run -d --name="foo" -v "/path/on/host:/path/on/container" ubuntu), it is a "regular ole" linux mount --bind, which means that the host directory will temporarily "override" the container directory. Nothing is actually deleted or overwritten on the destination directory, but because of the nature of containers, that effectively means it will be overridden for the lifetime of the container.
So, you're left with two options (maybe three). You could mount a host directory into your container and then copy those files in your startup script (or if you bring cron into your container, you could use a cron to periodically copy those files to that host directory volume mount).
You could also use docker cp to move files from your container to your host. Now that is kinda hacky and definitely not something you should use in your infrastructure automation. But it does work very well for that exact purpose. One-off or debugging is a great situation for that.
You could also possibly set up a network transfer, but that's pretty involved for what you're doing. However, if you want to do this regularly for your log files (or whatever), you could look into using something like rsyslog to move those files off your container.

That is the opposite: you can mount an host folder to your container on docker run.

I don't think so.
Right now, you can check docker inspect <containername> and see if you see your log in the /var/lib/docker/volumes/... associated to the volume from your container.
Or you can redirect the result of docker logs <containername> to an host file.

The alternative would be to mount a host directory as the log folder and then access the log files directly on the host.
